Fedora Security :: How Long To Relabel After Seedit Reboot

Dec 29, 2010

I wanted to edit the Selinux policies using a GUI and i read that there's seedit. The problem was the selinux-policy-targeted package. It was conflicting every time i wanted seedit. I uninstalled the selinux-policy targeted and was able to install seedit. After that, I did ./seedit-init, after that i just entered reboot. Was there supposed to be a button or anything popping up after the seedit-init?

So it reboots, and during the first reboot, a bunch of words flashed, and i see some words like Green [OK]. It was very quick so i have no idea what it said. It then reboots again and it loads but now after the fedora loading bar and word turns grey, it just stops. Nothing else happens. I can type things in, but just that, nothing else. Ctrl+Alt+Delete restarts it though.

So my problem is, is it still relabeling? Because that's what I'm told seedit is doing; relabeling all the policies. If so, how long does it take? And if it's not relabeling, then did something happen a long the way?I started the seedit around 3ish and it's almost 8 already. I'm currently using Fedora 14 with a 500gb HDD. However, i partitioned 11gig for the fedora, and the rest is for Windows 7. So basically it is a dual-boot.okay, after much waiting, it was an error =/. I just don't know why though. I did a restart, made the kernal disable selinux and went and uninstalled seedit. I reapplid the selinux-policy-target. I did a restart and there it was, telling me it had to relabel.

Fedora Security :: SElinux Fails To Start Filesystem Relabel

Sep 10, 2009

I recently made a custom spin of fedora on 29th August 2009. It initially failed to go past the slash screen but a solution was found here on fedora forum. It included adding the following to kernel line in grub.

enforcing=0

I later checked SElinux and found the option to do a filesystem relabel at next boot was enabled. I rebooted the system without adding the above words "enforcing=o" and it got stuck after the the splash screen (the blue screen with a fedora bubble). I then did some more research on SElinux and filesystem relabelling. There were several comments that said that a notice is given in the event of a filesystem relabel. I went to the konsole and as root I wrote the following commands:

touch /.autorelabel
reboot

I gave my pc 20Hrs 48min and nothing happened. My HDD is 80GB but it only had 7.5GB of data. There were no messages that indicated that the filesystem relabel was in progress or even if it had started. I also tried the following command but failed:

make relabel

I have now had to edit grub.conf and added the words "enforcing=0" as it is the only way the system will go passed the splash screen.

Fedora Security :: Moved /var/log To New Disk - Selinux Relabel Now Incorrect

Apr 27, 2011

I've moved my /var/log directory to another disk (/mnt/serverlogs) and created a symlink for the original directory:

Code:

[root@fileserver2 var]# ls -aldZ /var/log
lrwxrwxrwx. root root unconfined_u:object_r:var_t:s0 /var/log -> /data/serverlogs
[root@fileserver2 var]# ls -aldZ /data/serverlogs
drwxr-xr-x. root root system_u:object_r:var_log_t /data/serverlogs

I have SELinux set to permissive and am getting lots of errors because the contexts are incorrect after a filesystem relabel. e.g.

Code:

[root@fileserver2 var]# ls -alZ /data/serverlogs/messages
-rw-------. root root system_u:object_r:default_t:s0 /data/serverlogs/messages

I believe that this file should be var_log_t.How can I restore the correct context to all of the files in /var/log?I've tried running:

Code:

restorecon -vR /var/log/

But this does not change the contexts, I guess because the files are now in the 'incorrect' location. I've looked through the file: /etc/selinux/targeted/contexts/files/file_contexts which I believe contains the original/default settings - maybe I need to alter this file to fix the problem? I've also tried modifying /data/serverlogs using:

Code:

semanage fcontext -a -t var_log_t /data/serverlogs

which fixes the directory itself, but not the contents,

Fedora :: F13 Extra Long Reboot And Shutdown?

May 30, 2010

I hoping someone can point me in a direction. I installed F13 KDE from the live cd and now when I Shutdown or Reboot, it takes 2 minutes and 8 seconds for the machine to power off. Yes, I timed it.Happens everytime like that. Even when booting from both "mainstream" live cd and the KDE spin live cd. When I hit the Shutdown or Reboot, it goes through the daemons/services shutdown the flashes up the Halting System or Please wait while the system reboots messages (respectivley), turns off the LCD and then just... sits with the power light on and hard drive activity light on. I should mention this is on a Toshiba Laptop about 2 years old now. Intel Chipsets. (Satellite Pro S300M-S2142 if anyone is really curious). The hard drive light stays on for about 1:03 minutes and then it turns off, at 2:08 minutes - the Power light finally turns off and the thing finally shuts down or reboots. If this sounds familiar, it's because it is and I've posted about it with F12 and it's still there with F13. Running kernel-2.6.33.3-85.fc13.x86_64

On boot I get

On the next screen the boot hangs. There is a solution posted here: [URL] it states I booted my VM from a rescue CD ISO, mounted the root directory, and:

# cd /mnt/local
# rm -f .autorelabel

Once this is done you may want to consider upgrading your VM to more -current that has this fixed. I've booted using a knoppix CD, but I don't know how to mount the root directory to try the fix.

I'm using a passphrase to unlock my first partition and it will unlock the others by itself. So far so good. But now it doesnt work anymore... I'm not sure what I did before, but what I know, I didn't change anything! about cryptsetup. I did only a little "update" with the recommended packages from the repositories (guess only 4-5 updated)

I already checked with live cd and same thing there. Not able to unlock any device (what seems strange to me, cause there are 4 of them and all corrupted at the same time...?)

I always get the error message: unlock failed, bad password or options? (on boot) Command failed: No key available with this passphrase (live cd)

First thing I did was checking wheter all modules are loaded:

How consistant the power off time is makes me think there's a timeout of sorts going on, but I have no idea on how to track that down.

If I leave it for about 30 mins it suddenly dies, allowing me to run 'plasma' from a terminal - then everything is back to normal.

If I log out and try to log back in again, I get a black screen. Only way to fix it is either to kill it and wait for 30 mins or so, or totally reboot the computer.Tail of the xsessions error file:

Fedora Installation :: Upgrade To F15 Taking Too Long To Run

May 28, 2011

I switched to Fedora from Ubuntu about a month ago, and I've been very happy so far. But today I started the upgrade to Fedora 15, and something isn't right. I used the preupgrade method, and the package download took a respectable 30-40 minutes, then I was prompted to reboot my machine. I did so, about 4 hours ago. It took about 2 hours to get to the point where it says it's installing the packages, and 2 hours to get to where it is as I write this, at 116 completed packages out of 1634.

I'm pretty sure this isn't normal for ANY distribution. The machine itself is about 6 months old, so I'm pretty sure it's not a hardware issue. I'm considering interrupting the upgrade and doing a clean install, but I was wondering, is there anything I can do before resorting to the clean install option?

Fedora :: Shutdown Time Unusually Long?

About suspending F15 KDE. It goes into suspend successfully but after switching on after suspend, it just shows an unresponsive black screen.

Is anyone else facing the same problem and has it been solved before? Because I haven't come across many posts regarding F15 KDE.

Fedora :: F15 Taking Extremely Long To Boot?

Aug 21, 2011

I just want to find out if anybody else is having a similar issue before I start trying to disable services one by one. When I boot in to F15, everything runs fine up to were it starts loading the CUPS module then it hangs for about 2 to 3 minutes, the next thing to load is Samba shares. So it could be either of these or it could have nothing to do with them. Just to add that I made 100% sure that all my samba shares mount fine and are online and have no shares mounting in my fstab file.

CentOS 5 :: X/Gnome Takes Long Time To Load And Sudo Takes Long Time To Execute

Oct 13, 2009

I am running Centos 5.3. I ran no updates, performed no installs, nor changed any configuration immediately prior to this issue. My problem is this: when I run the command startx (default runlevel 3), it is a long time (5-10 minutes) before Gnome startx, and once it does start applications will not run. Also, when I try to use sudo (from any environment, even ssh), it is a long time (5-10) before the command is executed.

I cannot say for sure, but it seems like this is an intermittent problem. Sometimes X takes a long time to start, but once it starts it will launch programs. Sometimes X takes a long time to launch, but once it starts it will only launch certain programs. Though presently X always takes a long time to start, and I cannot successfully launch any programs.

A while back a had a similar problem to this (x taking long time to start, sudo taking long time to execute) and it ended up being a DNS problem. Unfortunately, I cannot remember exactly what it was and I stupidly did not document it. Maybe this is also DNS related, I don't know.

I don't know what log files to look at for problems with X, Gnome, and sudo taking a long time to start.

Fedora :: Installiing Fonts Using Long Series Of Terminal Commands?

May 14, 2011

I used Ubuntu for three years and was recently trying Debian and am now giving Fedora a try. When I switched to Linux I was almost computer illiterate. Even now I only know a little about using the terminal. So forgive me for asking such a simple question.I want to install some extra founts that I need, but Fedora is a little different than the systems I am familiar with. I quickly looked through posts in this forum and noticed solutions using long series of terminal commands. With Debian and Ubuntu I added founts by using a nautilus command to get by the permissions (specifically, gksu nautilus). Does Fedora have a similar tool, or must I use the terminal? I want to install quite few founts and do not want to spend a whole day doing it. If terminal is the best solution, I need a little clarification. I saw people using su in their command lines. Does that refer to sudo?

Fedora :: Close Minecraft - Freezes And Stays Open For A Long Time

Aug 10, 2011

I installed Fedora 15 last week, on my main PC, and I absolutely love it. Defintely my favourite operating system. Now I have a few questions. I thought I would put them all in one thread, instead of making seperate ones. I did search before I posted, and I cant seem to find any solution to my problems. So here it goes.

First question, I am using evolution for my e-mail program/client. My email addresses are all hosted by hotmail. Now I have set them all up correctly, but cant seem to send e-mails(I recieve them perfectly fine). I am using the "smtp.live.com" server, and using SSL encryption. I have tried messing with the settings but have had no luck. Has anyone figured out how to fix this?

Second question, I play minecraft frequently, and I am currently starting the program via terminal [java -jar /home/username/minecraft.jar], which works flawlessly. However it is too slow(open terminal, type it in. I need a simple click), is there any other way to start minecraft?

Third and last question, What is the best way to close minecraft? I notice if I just close it(via right click, and close, or clicking the X) it freezes and stays open for a long time. Is there any better way to close it?
