Which MySQL to download for Fedora 12?
I am trying to figure out which version of MySQL 5.1 is required for Fedora 12. At the MySQL download page dev.mysql.com/downloads/mysql/5.1.html#downloads, I see both RPM and non-RPM versions available. As Fedora is RPM-compatible, however, Fedora is not included in the list of operating systems. Which MySQL download do I need for Fedora?
I know I could Install MYSQL in fedora using yum install mysql mysql-devel mysql-server
But i would like to know which version to download from the mysql site. (Should I take Red Hat linux 5, or any other option).

Mysql starting problem after changing mysqladmin password.I tried all the solutions available on forums, but not solve the problem.At last I restored the mysql db backup, this make mysql service start, but till other databases not showing all tables.

I've been attempting to set up a LAMP for local web development, which meant installing mysql-server. But now have a problem when trying to run mysql, I get:-
ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)
When trying to downgrade mysql-server I saw that there are dependency problems between the various modules (but can't recall which). But whichever route I truied the results are always the same.
Thought about trying XAMPP but I note that even has it's problems, is there any way I can get a lamp set up on FC14, or must I give it up as a bad job.
Howver, just been trying to again to fix the problems with downgrading mysql and get:-
Error: Package: mysql-server-5.1.55-1.fc14.i686 (@updates)
Requires: mysql(x86-32) = 5.1.55-1.fc14
Removing: mysql-5.1.55-1.fc14.i686 (@updates)

This is our first time choosing and installing linux. Our other servers are all windows 2008 x64. We were told to install fedora 13. I can only find a download for the desktop version and we're looking for the SERVER x64 download. Could I please get a link?

To install mysql follow this process. Go to your Terminal and Enter the command given below:

After installation you need to start mysql server by

1.First you system will ask you old mysql root password if you have installed mysql just now and not set password yet then you can enter anything or just press enter.
2. After that system will ask you twice for new password you can set a new password or you can keep it blank for no root password. I will suggest you to enter a password.
3.remove anonymous user? make it yes when you install mysql an automatic mysql user has created so remove it.
4. Disallow root login remotely. Hope you want to disallow mysql root login from remote for security of your mysql sever. If you want to use you can select no.
5. Remove test database. As anonymous user system generate and automatic database for testing.select yes to delete it.
6.Reload privileges: do yes to flush privileges.
Now you can login in your mysql server as root by this command

One more thing make sure that when you are entering this command you login your terminal as general user not as root.
Now you can create a new user by following commands.

If you want to work with mysql in gui mode Then you can install phpMyAdmin to install phpmy admin go to terminal and eter

And after completing installation you can login in to phpmyadmin. To login go to your browser enter [url] or Click here or you can download mysql gui client Mysql Work Bench from mysql website or Click here after installation it will be appear in programming menu. It's also cool client with mysql server activity watcher.

I am trying to get mysql to start at boot without any success.
The mysqld scripts works fine when run from the command line, but it does not work when i use the links created by chkconfig. I checked the boot.log and found that mysql starts but then it stops or gets shutdown. This is the log message:
Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /data/mysql [ OK ]
Starting cups: [ OK ]
STOPPING server from pid file /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid

The same init script works fine in Ubuntu.

Mysql is installed and I have checked it on three places to make sure it is. I tried to start the service or start mysql but no luck I can't find it anywhere and I cannot get it to run. It is also not under /etc/init.d

We just set up a new Fedora 12 server. It can't connect from PHP....we're really stumped. Here's what we did to troubleshoot:Connected successfully (remote) from Workbench Connected successfully as the web site user from CLI Checked (and reinstalled) the php-mysql package Turned off iptables, no change installed mysql-devel packages We've got a drupal site installed and it does a function that checks if mysql_connect exists. Drupal says the function doesn't exist, so it's like PHP doesn't even see mysql. Now, we didn't uncomment the extension=mysql.so line in php.ini, but I checked my cPanel Cent machine and it wasn't uncommented there either, so I assume it doesn't have to be on Fedora/RHEL/Cent.
We installed from yum, we did NOT compile Apache/PHP/MySQL. We'd prefer not to if possible. UPDATE: We are running on a VPS and we had enabled mpm.worker (ie, we uncommented the worker line in /etc/sysconfig/httpd). Once we went back to using prefork, all is well. Apparently you have to compile php/apache to use worker.

Currently I have a huge issue with Mysql on a basic Fedora 12 installation (no update strait from dvd). Only a console.

When I what to connect with the mysql database using the 6.2.2 Mysql.Data.dll using the socket (/var/lib/mysql/myqsl.sock) I get the error:
If I connect with localhost it is very slow: Query time(0 logitem(s)): 0.805234 seconds
When I connect to that shame version using the same application from a window machine over a network the result are: Query time(0 logitem(s)): 0.23646 seconds

Really interested if anyone knows of any pre-compiled or pre-built demo applications that could run on a MySQL back-end with a web-based front-end?
Ideally, it would be really, really simple having a web front-end that attaches to the database and just either reads data from it (or even enter data into it). Nothing too flash.
I'm thinking along the lines of a LAMP (Linux, Apache, MYSQL, PHP) install but I'm not a developer so if I have to build something I'll probably be out of my league here Does MySQL/Apache etc. have sample/demo databases with a web-front end application that could be fired up and installed without having to build the environment?
Years ago I remember M$ had the PetShop .Net app running on a SQL2000 environment easy to setup and simple enough to showcase the database and a simple front-end. A colleague wrote a small .NET app to just read the data from it and continuously scroll the data in a text box which was fine. Something like that on Linux would be perfect.

I ran the mysql but I received the error 2002 so I changed the my.cnf with medium.cnf, pointed in the file the path to the mysql.sock file and tried changing the owner of mysql.sock to the user mysql. It didn't work so in the end I gave 777 permissions (755 didn't work either). Now the error reporting when starting mysql is

I've setup a fedora core 13 server and I am running mysql on it. I wanted to use MySQL Workbench on my Windows 7 computer on the same LAN to connect to the database. Currently I am unable to connect to the database except if I go through ssh. What ports do I need to open on my firewall? Is there any specific configuration that I need to do to my MySQL database to get it working?

I saw that 5.0 was available in Fedora 10, so I tried to add fedora 10 repo from the archives.

I've successfully installed mysql using yum on the latest fedora; and started it like so:
What do I do from here!
I used the command: whereis mysql
I found out it was in /usr/bin/mysql /usr/lib/mysql /usr/share/mysql ../man/man1/.gz
I attempted to execute it from root.. bin and I get the following error message:

I installed mysql on my fedora system via a tar download and install instructions. Its working fine.
I wanted to install mysql workbench which is rpm based and it reported that there were some dependencies one of which was mysql. I guess the rpm utility could not see the mysql prorgram since mysql as not installed via rpm mode.
I have 5 discs of the fedora 12 installation. Can someone let me know if the mysql rpm exists on one of these discs and how do I install ONLY the Mysql package on the fedora 12 system that I already have via rpm mode.

long time user of redhat, first time user of fedora...
Installed fedora 10 to the hard drive (building a new web server, switched from RHEL5)
Started to install everything I need, apache, php, mysql, odbc, iseries access for linux, etc...
Got to the php modules, installed php-odbc, php-mysql, etc... but php doesn't see the mysql module
doing a phpinfo() produces -without-mysql
uninstalled it, reinstalled it (this is all done through kpackagekit so far) - no good
uninstalled and tried to reinstall via yum, no good
all the config files are fine - copied my php.ini from the old server and let the installs create the new mysql ini files
how to get it in ? this is my last step before i can begin pen and vulnerability testing it.
