I have installed Fedora 12 (Constantine) in my laptop. I updated gnome packages in my system and after the update I found that the menu bar in nautilus is missing. I tried a lot to restore the default appreance it could not be done. Please help me to restore my folder view settings especially the menu bar in nautilus.

View 9 Replies View RelatedUpon a fresh installation of Ubuntu Natty, I have noticed only a couple of my nautilus-actions are actually showing up in the context menu. On further review, I noticed Nautilus-actions has changed a lot, and I cannot seem to figure out why most of my actions are not showing up. It seems no matter what I change, they will not show up. Some of the ones I cannot seem to get up are 'Wipe' commands and several of my homemade ones that worked flawlessly in past Ubuntu versions, such as Chown, Make Executable, Renamer, among others. Oddly, two of them work just fine, Search Here and Open Root Nautilus. I am not sure why these work, while the others do not, other than they are not used by selecting item(s)/folders. Also, I noticed there is a change with the parameters, in which now all of them use %F instead of %M. Does anybody know why that is, and/or does it really matter. FYI, I am using the classic version, not Unity as my desktop.

I have about a dozen window managers installed, and just to test the new KDE 4.4 update I used kde for one day (use gnome mostly) and now the gnome places menu opens up the kde file manager dolphin instead of nautilus. How can I change it. It doesn't even appear in the edit menus item on right clicking the menu.

I am having a bear of a time figuring the right way to address permissions/groups so that any distro can use it (or any removable drive).I tried (in linuxmint) making a group '/data' and assigning the users on my machine to that group, then changing the permissions/groups of the files and folders in that mount as belonging to the /data group, then booted to fedora 15, made the /data group, added the users to that group, I'm not sure that this way will work (it doesn't seem to) or if it's the best way to proceed. some of the things I don't get are:what is the '1000' user and group?is the user/group info on (in or somehow attached) the mount itself?does this seem like a good way to do this?is there on way to 'apply permissions to enclosed files' recursively through the nautilus context menu?

View 3 Replies View RelatedJust upgraded to fc12, noticed that there was no menu bar (the one with "file", "edit", etc....) on my users/groups configuration program, but I figured that it was just a change from fc11. But now I'm noticing more stuff that doesn't have one that ought to (gedit, filezilla, and most importantly, nautilus).On the other hand, firefox does have the menu bar, so it's not a global issue. I have compiz-fusion/emerald, although I'm not sure that would make a difference. I've tried a few different themes thinking it might be the theme I'm using, but no dice.

However, I'm unable to change from one desktop to another - from what I've read, there's meant to be a drop-down menu at the login page allowing you to select the desktop but I don't have one.
I am a beginner with Fedora (mostly used Ubuntu in the past few years, but figure it's time for a change) so I may be missing something obvious.
Not sure it's relevant in this case but specs: Intel Core 2 Duo, ATI 4850, 4gb ram, 320gb HD.
In F11, I could configure windows to gain focus when the mouse hovers over them ... it was possible to finetune the response in terms of seconds. I dont find the menu item for this function any more in F12 (System -> Preferences ->?) Which package added that functionality and is there a version for F12? I really miss it
just noticed that the windows are already set to respond that way (by default) only that the title bars don't indicate a change in focus.
F13 just installed for me on a server back in the states for me. I VNC into it to setup my personal website. The GNOME menu listings do not have the tool I am familiar with that tells me which process are running, allows me to stop and start them, and to install them I believe if they are on the machine. I can see that MYSQL are on the machine with the Add/Remove tool. I also see myphpAdmin. I need to get both of these up and running. I should be able to do this with out going back to 1980's terminal commands right?
View 1 Replies View RelatedAt least the DVD I downloaded a few days ago was nothing like the one that was downloaded on release, most worked I'm missing a couple of important things on the gnome menus, nothing on system>preferences or Admin for printing, I had to configure the printer directly with the CUPs admin panel. These no way to edit the menus, right clicking on the bar has no effect, and I haven't form menu-edit in the repos with yumex, or the gnome control pane. Have these been dropped in FC14 ?

When I try to open some file, including directories, "Open with..." window appears.
I installed Fedora Core 13 x86-64 from the installation DVD and picked the "Software Development" installation. I notice that the Applications->System Tools menu doesn't have "File Browser" on it.
Nautilus is installed, so I can create a launcher for it. I'm merely curious whether this is a change or bug in FC 13? Or should I suspect that I myself deleted the file browser launcher accidentally? The machine is a laptop and I find the mousepad awkward to use.
First off, I have spent several hours searching this and other forums looking for an answer to this, and have tried several things, none of which have fixed this issue. Here is what I'm seeing:I performed a new install of FC12 on a Thinkpad R40, 512Mb RAM, with a 40Gb HDD, 38Gb useable, from a live CD. That leaves a little over 9Gb free for expansion. All went well with the install, but the post-boot upgrade would not complete due to an error with the abrt files. I found a thread discussing this and used the suggested method of performing the updates from a shell, which worked fine. There were LOTS of installations, updates, and replacements, and finally the shell returned "Complete!". After a reboot I was going through the Fedora_12_ User_ Guide.pdf and noticed many items missing from the System Menu as described in section 3.1.1.3 "The System menu". Another thread seemed to address a similar issue with su - then yum groupinstall "GNOME Desktop Environment", which I did. It updated over 870 items, then completed with no errors. At this point I logged out and back in, no change, and then tried a reboot, which also did not change anything. Finally, I'm appealing to the community.

I just recently installed Nautilus, or upgraded, from whatever was pre-installed with Ubuntu 9.10. I accidentally clicked Hide Menu toolbar, which apparently in this, there's no way to unhide it. The only thing showing now is the Sidebar, and I don't know how to get any of the toolbars back. [URL]
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm using gnome and I'm trying to add custom actions to the right-click on desktop menu. I've read that this can be done using nautilus-actions, but all the references I've found explain it for older versions of nautilus-actions.
If I create an action (a firefox launcher, for example) and don't add any special conditions for it to show up, it shows when I right-click anything in nautilus, but not on the desktop.
I know it's possible since nautilus-open-terminal shows up on the desktop menu.
is it possible to edit the nautilus right click menu? what I would like to do is add a new option or modify the copy to or send to in the drop down menu so I can send files to a deferent location.
