Feb 19, 2011I installed Nautilus Elementary today and after that the Preferences menu item in Nautilus is missing. What can I do?

Ubuntu :: Removing Item From Nautilus Places Menu - Not A Bookmark?
Aug 28, 2010I was trying to install Sim City 4 Deluxe when somehow through my mounting an un-mounting of the two ISO's nautilus decided to make an entry in the places menu. I've searched through the forums and most of what I'm finding is how to remove things like the network and desktop items.
Here are three screenshots showing what I mean. Number one shows the entry I am talking about, specifically the SC4DELUXE1 entry. Number two shows that just right clicking and selecting remove like many threads suggest does not work here as it is grayed out. Lastly number three, this is the error I'm given when I left click the entry.
I finally figured out how to fix this. I simply went into the disk utility. Under peripheral devices the unwanted device was listed. Click the check file system button after selecting the device. It reports back that the file system is not clean and removes the device.
Ubuntu Installation :: Users And Groups Menu Item Missing?
Jan 23, 2011I've just installed Maverick (server) in a VirtualBox, and the 'Users and Groups' item is missing from the System/Administration menu when logged in with the first account created.
I've tried
- giving root a password and logging in as that - the item still doesn't show
- adding a new menu item for 'user-admin' (which I believe is the name of the underlying application). Gives "Failed to execute child process 'user-admin'(No such file ordirectory)"
Where should user-admin be - maybe I need to add the path?
Debian :: Item Periodically Missing From Gnome Menu
Feb 12, 2011I have a recent install of squeeze. Beside applications from the squeeze repos, I have installed a few applications from their own deb files / repositories, such as Skype, Google-Chrome (not the chromium in the squeeze repos), Opera and Teamviewer.
All those placed their menu entries in the gnome menu, however periodically, at a new login, the Google-Chrome and Teamviewer menu items are missing. The applications are still there, but they dont show anymore in the menus. Only way to get them back I found so far is to reinstall the application.
Fedora :: Windows Order - Missing Menu Item
Feb 14, 2010In F11, I could configure windows to gain focus when the mouse hovers over them ... it was possible to finetune the response in terms of seconds. I dont find the menu item for this function any more in F12 (System -> Preferences ->?) Which package added that functionality and is there a version for F12? I really miss it
just noticed that the windows are already set to respond that way (by default) only that the title bars don't indicate a change in focus.

Apr 30, 2011Upon a fresh installation of Ubuntu Natty, I have noticed only a couple of my nautilus-actions are actually showing up in the context menu. On further review, I noticed Nautilus-actions has changed a lot, and I cannot seem to figure out why most of my actions are not showing up. It seems no matter what I change, they will not show up. Some of the ones I cannot seem to get up are 'Wipe' commands and several of my homemade ones that worked flawlessly in past Ubuntu versions, such as Chown, Make Executable, Renamer, among others. Oddly, two of them work just fine, Search Here and Open Root Nautilus. I am not sure why these work, while the others do not, other than they are not used by selecting item(s)/folders. Also, I noticed there is a change with the parameters, in which now all of them use %F instead of %M. Does anybody know why that is, and/or does it really matter. FYI, I am using the classic version, not Unity as my desktop.

Oct 27, 2010i am having a problem on Ubuntu 10.10. In system menu, there is no Administration or Preferences menu.Also, application menu does not show anything. I am using Ubuntu since 2 weeks and still not used to to the terminal commands for running applications and admin tools.
one more thing.When i booted my PC today it reported an error and process terminated before reaching the login window. So i restarted and chose recovery mode. it also reported some errors and tried to fix the problem. it deleted some files i think. and my system is working again but with above mentioned problem.

Dec 20, 2010Every time I open "sound preferences" from either the sound applet or the preferences menu pulseaudio CPU usage goes right up to 100% and proceeds to lock up the entire computer. pavucontrol, paman, and all the other pulseaudio utils work fine, except for ubuntu's sound preferences. It affects a new account.This is my 10.04 desktop that is affected. I have just the default pulseaudio config.

I think this is because I had a bad "A" drive that I just replaced and before that I did a lot of changing of the mbr and grub commands. So there must be something on the "B" or second drive that is causing this. Right now everything is fine with my computer and this is just house keeping. I would like to delete the "Windows 7 sdb1" menu Item if possible. Just to be clear, windows boots with the sda1 command (first menu Item), and the "windows 7 sdb1" does nothing at all.

Jul 12, 2011I'm looking for a way from the terminal to remove certain menu items from the System | Administration for certain users. I'm working with a CyberCafe style application so user accounts come and go and I wanted to see if I can set it up that after an account is created that it will do some customisations.
I've found examples of adding menu items but nothing specific to removing via the terminal.
I think I may already know the answer to this. The Alacarte application simply manages the XML in the settings.menu to hide menu items and that if I want to do any customisations from the terminal I will need to play with this XML file to hide things.
I'd like the customisation per user rather than a blanket removal for all users
