I am looking for audio transcoding tips. I would like to transcode mp3 to ogg on F14. Can someone advise me the tool to use and if there are some script lines required to operate in bulk mode?
I'm trying to convert a video in .ogm format to .avi format so I can stream it to my PS3 via uShare. I'm using Mencoder and the following command to do it (to transcode the audio from vorbis to mp3 and the video from mpeg4 to xvid):
Code: mencoder input.ogm -oac mp3lame -ovc xvid -xvidencopts pass=1 -o output.avi.The only problem is, the video contains 2 audio streams - one Japanese and one English. Needless to say, I need the English one. The above command only seems to transcode the Japanese audio though! Here's what ffmpeg has to say about the input file:
what I can do to specify the correct audio stream to encode? Also, how can I keep the bitrate the same as the output.avi seems to default to 96kbps?I'm not sure which audio stream is which but a little trial and error will sort that out in no time.
The commandcvlc --run-time 180 "http://amber.streamguys.com:4500/wcvehd1.m3u" --sout file/ogg:/home/mikeb/Audio_Recordings/WCVE-test"$(date +%F-%T)".oggwill successfully record a stream from my local NPR station. If I understand the messages thatare printed to stdout when I run it, this transcodes the mp3 stream to an ogg filece I am using this to timeshift a program that I otherwise would not be able to listen to, I would prefer simply to dump the stream in mp3 format without transcoding. tried changing "ogg" "dump" but that produces an error about the --sout option. Can someone tell me how to modify this command so that it simply dumps the incoming stream to a file in mp3 format
I am finding little bits and parts of information about CUDA enabled mplayer/mencoder .. apparently CUDA will enable your Nvidia GPU to do work when transcoding video instead of the CPU?
does anyone know if there are any Fedora RPMs of a CUDA enabled mplayer? how can you tell if your Nvidia card supports CUDA in linux? I found some ubuntu packages but so far nothing for Fedora
I'm looking for a way to delay or disable the balloon tips that appear when pointing the curser at certain things. Example: In applications>accessories>archive manager; when the curser is touching "archive manager" for more than 1-second, a balloon tip window appears that says "Create and modify an archive." I would like to increase the delay before the balloon tip appears to be 5 seconds or more, as I rarely need this feature. If delay is not possible then I'd elect to disable it, if that can be done. I've searched Google and these forums but have not found any posts. I'm thinking the setting may be hidden somewhere in the "Configuration Editor," but I haven't been able to find it.
How do I get rid of Yellow Tool Tips? I already tried: gconf-editor and apps > panel > global and uncheck tooltips_enabled; then rebooted. The yellow tips are still there. I find them of little help and a bit annoying. Update: Actually I just noticed that the color depends on the theme being used, therefore it is not always yellow!
My distribution of choice on my desktop is Arch Linux (I like getting all the new stuff before anyone else) but I am going to be making a home server, and I can't imagine Arch Linux working well for that because I want something stable and reliable. I always admired Debian for not only APT but it's reliability. I thought about using Ubuntu server but I don't like the direction Ubuntu is going, and I like Debian better anyway, so I am firmly set on using Debian for this server.
This server will be more advanced than necessary for a home user. The reason is because it's a learning experience. I want to learn all about DHCP, DNS, and all those other things. I'm already very knowledgeable on SSH and Unison, which will be the primary focus (backing up). So I was hoping I would list the things I decided to do and get some opinions/best practices from you guys.First, I decided on a Dell Inspiron 570. It's dirt cheap (around $280) and it has a gigabit network card. (I'm pretty sure). I need to stay as cheap as possible because money is a HUGE factor for me. I have a budget of under $700 to do all this. (So I may need to get smaller hard drives). Whatever default hard drive it comes with I will add two more hard drives in a RAID1 for /home. Like this:
Disk 1: Root, swap and boot partitions (smaller hard drive) Disk 2 & 3: Dedicated to /home, on a RAID1 (two 2TB hard drives)
The idea is that once the server is all the way done, I will image Disk 1 with Clonezilla, and if it fails, just restore it. I personally don't feel that having RAID1 for the root partition is necessary when Clonezilla takes 20 minutes to restore a drive, or less. The OS and all configurations in /etc would automatically be backed up in that image.Since I'm using the server primarily for backups (there won't even be a monitor on it when done) /home will be on a RAID1 since that's the most important thing. (I have backups on external hard drives too, one is off-site, so still no worries). Also, the server will handle DNS for the hostnames on my four other computers, and I'm thinking of replacing my router and having my server do that too. Nothing wrong with my router, but it would be fun for me to set this up.
I got some binaries from internet (amule), but am afraid of using them, exposing my system. Since some run long simulations, it is not desirable to run in slow VM.
What do you gurus say if I run it as a new user? So the binaries would just be able to read and execute my binutils... Is that harmfull?
I've got a non-urgent but itchy thing here - I'm implementing a drag-and-drop. All rolls well, but I'd like to have the component be "followed" - if there is a drag on the component, the form should be visible. I'd like to make a puzzle where the player can see the perimeter of the piece to see if it fits where (s)he'd want to drop it. Before I delve into the tons of code, I'd like to know if that (the following) can be done.
I'm building my new home machine right now and as usual this will be a heavily overloaded workstation that will serve as development and testing machine, file server and game console (plus I'm adding TV cards and multimedia streaming for my home network). Since these use cases work against each other (file server is unavailable when the machine is used as game console), I'm heavily considering the use of Xen to provide everything at once. Performance shouldn't be an issue in general, but the game console use case definitely requires direct access to a GPU.
I am using ubuntu remix 10.04 on Dell mini 12 notebook. Everything is perfect expect coding in Eclipse. If any code tips window pops up, then I can't type in any letter until I click right mouse button or [Alt + Tab] to other window and switch back
This was happend to me 2 days ago when updating Ubuntu 10.10 and I didn't notice that 10.10 was unintentionally upgraded to 11.04. After uninstalling 11.04 and reinstalling 10.10, I made a basic tips on how to update your 10.10 without upgrading to 11.04: Simply install some "Important Security Updates" only in Update Manager.
I've followed the instruction on this site. But I'm not able to play videos with subtitles on my LG TV. Transcoding is working (I tried the command in terminal) and I can see transcoded video in the list of videos on my TV. When I try to play the video, it shows error "Not supported format"
There's always some annoying tips showing in Libreoffice Impress slide show, like 'Click to select master text style','Second level' & 'Third level' on every slide, even in slide show mode.
I tried converting wma to mp3 with vlc, but an error comes up this is what it says. p, li { white-space: pre-wrap; } Streaming / Transcoding failed: It seems your FFMPEG (libavcodec) installation lacks the following encoder: MPEG Audio layer 1/2/3. Either how can I get that encoder for vlc or what else can I use to convert wma to mp3?
Can't find anything quite like this having been asked already I have just bought all of Babylon 5, and want to put it on my hdd instead of using the discs. dvd::rip works fine for me. I can rip and then transcode titles to AVI manually. What I want is to rip a disc or two, and then have dvd::rip transcode them overnight (takes about 50 minutes per episode on my machine). I tried this on the command line: dvdrip -f transcode -t 2 b5s1d1.rip which, after briefly loading the GUI, just gets this error: Can't locate object method "error_dialog" via package "Video:VDRip::GUI::Main" at /usr/share/perl5/Video/DVDRip/GUI/Main.pm line 173. Gave up and found dvd::ripqueue, which is a gui utility that automates what I would have put into a script, but it doesn't work properly - dvd::rip launches, but only performs the first pass and produces no output. My projects were set up and saved correctly (as I said, all this works if I start it manually from the dvd::rip GUI).
What's the easiest software to use (simplest command) that will read a VIDEO_TS folder (a ripped DVD) and transcode it? I don't want a GUI. mencoder looks like my best bet, but I just wanted to check before I start transcoding all my DVDs with it. Also, auto-cropping would be a great feature, but I don't think mencoder can do this unless you find this out prior to the transcode with mplayer.
I have looked around a while for the answer, but nothing really fits. Here is the scenario. I have one server and a few openvz VE's running. I want to be able to auth whatever possible with LDAP. I have an LDAP server setup on the host and auth works for the server users. The tricky part for me is that every VE has their own domain. and if I can do that, they will also have the same login for their VE on said domain. I can setup users and the required software on the hosts and guest, but I guess I am confused at how to manage the multiple domain part of things.
not sure if proftp can do 'name based' stuff like apache, but if it can, we can point ftp.clientdomain.foo to the main server and handle it that way.
My aim is to create a bash shell script that I can use in directories with many subdirectories full of .flac files for mass transcodings that recquire minimal user input. At present I have this file at ~/bin/flac2mp3:
Code: #!/bin/bash file="$1" flac -cd "$file" | lame --preset fast extreme - "${file%.flac}.mp3" I navigate to the directory in question and run:
does anyone know if there are Linux drivers for the Leadtek MPEG-2/H.264 Transcoding Card WinFast PxVC1100? I read it works under Linux, but there seems to be no specific drivers for it.
I am having trouble getting the pulse audio server to find the hw0 with the common m-audio 24/96 audiophile. This card worked with previous versions of all forms of pulse but seems to bork on the HW0 function for audio out...which is a stereo analogue simple output. Audacity sees the HW functions but pulse does not! Here is a screen shot of the pulse crap. And another screen shot of what the real card at "alsamixer -c 0" sees. There is no dac or adc detected or configured with pulse. This does not make any sense as alsa and alsamixer has all the correct device controls available to any other software that uses the ice1712 driver.
I am using Fedora 12 amd 64 as a live usb on a 16 gig stick and want to be able to record and mix audio on to HD with my reliable high end m-audio pci sound card without having to mess with the pulse crap or having to install a full HD option. BTW in the pulse sound configuration gui dropdown list there is no indication of HW0 and the only devices that are available in pulse are digital outs.....go figure, so essentially I can see all the correct connections and use programs that access alsa directly eg: audacity but have no sound through the crappy and ever borked pulse audio server! Any suggestions as to how to remove all the pulse stuff that comes with most distros that use gnome? I have done this deed before with Ubuntu but do no know how to do the deed with an rpm based system. If I install a non pulse version of xmms and let it use jackd then I should have reliable sound for cd audio etc and should be able to configure VLC, Ardour and Nted well without pulse getting in on the action and screwing up my sound.
I have a torrentbox. The special thing about this torrent box is that it's custom built, it has Windows 7 installed and I have full control over it using TightVNC. At the moment I'm using uTorrent WebUI and FTP do download the files. But I'm thinking - When I download a 1,5 hour long video in 30 minutes, wouldn't it be theoretically possible to just WATCH the movie directly from the torrentbox? Obviously this can't be dont using FTP since it makes you download the entire file, BUT:
Is there some other way to fool your OS into thinking that this is a local folder, and get media players like VLC or GOM player to play video files directly? This would be a monumental time- and space saver for me.(I have both Windows and Linux Mint on my PCs)
I've been interested in trying to figure out how to do some real-time transcoding to downsize video files on the fly and play them back on my android phone. I read the Mencoder and vlc documentations and am trying to figure out an open source method and i don't mind setting up an apache server and writing some code to get a web interface.
In newer versions of Avidemux wrong parameters are set when choosing "Sony Playstation Portable" from the Auto menu. The PSP doesn't support more than 2 reference frames or 8x8 DCT Transform.
This is how you can fix it. Backup the original file
Code: sudo cp /usr/lib/ADM_plugins/videoEncoder/x264/Sony PlayStation Portable.xml /usr/lib/ADM_plugins/videoEncoder/x264/Sony PlayStation Portable.xml.org Edit the file Code: sudo gedit /usr/lib/ADM_plugins/videoEncoder/x264/Sony PlayStation Portable.xml Change this line
There are Linux drivers for the Leadtek MPEG-2/H.264 Transcoding Card WinFast PxVC1100? I read it works under Linux, but there seems to be no specific drivers for it.
Streaming / Transcoding failed: It seems your FFMPEG (libavcodec) installation lacks the following encoder: MPEG Audio layer 1/2/3. If you don't know how to fix this, ask for support from your distribution. This is not an error inside VLC media player. Do not contact the VideoLAN project about this issue.
It said not to contact VideoLAN, but instead the Distro so...here I am. Was there a file I should download in order to fix this? If there is one, where do I place it or run it to stop this error?
I have the audio out of the media machine passed into the line in on my workstation. It's just handly to have the audio pass in this way so that i can manage the volume or headphones or whatever from one machine.
This worked, and worked well, for a very long time. I recently reinstalled the workstion, FC14 still. After the reinstall, my passthrough doesn't work.
If i start up some media on the media machine, and then open up the volume control on the workstation, i can see the volume meter moving along with the audio, but nothing plays out of my speakers.
I have behringer UCA202 usb card, after plug to usb, it just works , I have only small problem with alsamixer, which still shows by default my integrated HDA Intel, I could switch it by F6 or by alsamixer -c 1no problem, but I expect that default card is now plugged "USB audio", so why alsamixer recognize default audio device as HDA intel and not a USB Audio ?anyone who has two or more sound cards with the same issue ?
