I recently upgraded successfully from F8 to F10 with no problems. I have a question about repo compatabilities. The livna repo is still enabled after the upgrade. Is is compatable with the rpmfusion and fedora repos? should I disable the livna repo? will this cause any problems?
View 4 Repliesi'm attempting to know and understand fedora more and i will spend probably the next month pouring through all the forums and documents to answer more of my own questions. but there's quite a bit here, so i'd thought i'd ask some noob questions to get me started a little.
ive installed fedora 14 64bit and chosen only kde as the desktop. i selected an extra 2 repos besides the default, fedora 14 -x86_64 and fedora 14-x86_64 -updates. i believe this kernel is installed: 2.6.35.11-83
1. i can only see the 2 extra repo's as being "checked" in kpackagekit, shouldn't i see the default repo also ?
2. i dont have an applet in the system tray indicating the system is up to date, does fedora have this by default ? also after a clean install i ran yum check-update and yum update but the message sayes: "no packages marked for update". i'm not sure if the system is auto-updated during install or not, but with other distros iv tried there is always atleast a few updates needing to be done after install.
3. is kpackagekit the fedora gui package manager ? i dont see any others.
4. i want to upgrade to nvidia drivers, but i think i am missing a non-free repo or something. when i enter: yum install kmod-nvidia xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686 xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.x86_64 i get messages stating "no package" i get the same message with yum install nvidia-settings.i also tried this: LANG=C yum --enablerepo=rpmfusion-nonfree info akmod-nvidia but it sayes repo not found.
I had a bad timing when I set up my system yesterday evening.Livna beeing not online for like almost 24hrs.I did download the rpm from a mirror mainwhile, but for some reason i dont understand, yum still aborts EVERY command if i dont add --disablerepo=livna.

I am trying to configure an additional input device so I need to edit my xorg file. Any change I make is being lost when I reboot. The xorg gets reverted to seme default configuration. Even if the change is as simple as adding a comment. I have tried disallowing livna to edit the configuration file (using livna display configuration), but when I reboot, the system reverts back to the vesa display drivers.
How can I figure out what is recreating the xorg file? How can I disable this so my changes persist. Or is there another file I can add input devices to (or a way to automatically add them upon boot but before x starts?)

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been trying now for 3 days to install Fedora 15 on my computer. I have Windows 7 installed and have created a free partition for this install. When I am installing I get to the repository selection part and I get only 3 options (Fedora 15, Fedora 15 Testing, Fedora 15 Updates), by default the Fedora 15 and Fedora 15 Updates are selected. There is no option for DVD Repository and if I click add repository and select DVD it says no repository found. Furthermore, if I proceed with the 2 default repositories checked off it takes about 8 hours to download everything online and then towards the end it says it couldn't retrieve a file and exit installation. How to use the DVD to get all the packages so that my install doesn't keep taking 8 hours to fail?
This is the 64bit version I am trying to install, system specs:
Intel Core i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30GHz
16.0 GB Ram
ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series
1 TB Harddrive
The original DVD I got from the direct download. I also downloaded via torrent to see if that worked and got the same results.
I'm having trouble installing Fedora 11 using the URL method. When I put in a F11 netinstall CD, or even Disc 1, I press tab on the first option and add "askmethod" to the end of the text. Each time I point the installer to my local FTP and press enter after typing in the FTP url, the installer just hangs there. I've even tried deleting ALL the files from the F11 folder on my FTP server and downloaded ALL the files at:
ftp://ftp.linux.ncsu.edu/pub/fedora/...edora/i386/os/
Still...the same thing.
When I pointed the installer to:
ftp://ftp.linux.ncsu.edu/pub/fedora/...edora/i386/os/
Everything worked fine, albeit slow as it was DL from the NCSU FTP server.
Am I doing something wrong with my FTP server? It is anon, so there is no authentication issues.
I have successfully installed fedora 10 and have rpmfusion in my /home/ directory. i don't know how to edit yum.conf to make yum install from this local repo. i tried once. But when i tried to install vlc i got an error saying some lib****** files are missing and missing dependencies.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am creating custom install media using the Fedora Core 14 DVD as a base and I have gathered all of the packages and their dependencies I require using the yumdownloader command.I made sure to download the @core group along with the ones listed above. The problem I'm running into is that I don't know how to update the media's repo information to reflect some of the updated packages I have downloaded. So when I go to install on the device, it's saying it can't read/open a certain package and you can see that it's looking for an older version because I'm guessing its repo is telling anaconda that this is the specific version to look for. I'm looking for a way to "update" the repo found on the installation media.

I am using Fedora 13 and I have one program (wine) that I need to start grabbing for the updates-testing repo instead of the default repositories in order to get newer versions. I think I can figure out how to add that repository, but I need to know if there are any others I need to disable or any other changes I need to make to my system so that I don't confuse my set up with conflicting updates.
Also, is there anything special I need to do to be sure that only that one program is grabbed from the testing repo when I run regular updates?
Will KDE4.4 eventually move into the 11.2 updates or do I have to add the KDE Factory repo to get this update?
View 3 Replies View RelatedThe problem with X not starting up started after I upgraded kernel from 2.6.38.6-26.rc1.fc15.i686 which is what the FC15 came with. Before that I had X, without installing the nvidia.com driver (whatever came with the stock FC15-XFCE spin).I tried booting the old kernel and at first it worked but X again would not run. Now, after, above operations (reinstall of kernel-devel + kernel headers and all dependencies like glibc-common, glibcs-headers, dkms, gcc..) booting the old kernel does not work anymore: the framebuffer animation of the Fedora logo fillingup freezes at some point almost at the end; HD LED blinking hard. Maybe this means fsck is running and I need to give it more time..? I'll leave it booting when I go for lunch and see how it goes...
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have been playing with Fedora for about a week and half. I installed Fedora 12 from a live CD that I created with the ISO I downloaded.
Since installing it I have enabled RPM Fusion for codecs, also installed a couple of rpms from ATRPMS by temporarily enabling it.
What puzzles me is that I have a large number of packages that yum tells me came from rawhide, yet I never enabled rawhide.

dose any one know the text string to enter to DISABLE ip v6 100% during the install?using the gui installer for fedora 5,6,7,8,9 i have been able to disable this ( uncheck a check box) then set the system up manually for ip4 .the reason is for some reason if ip6 is on during the install ( i have had this problem with all versions of fedora f5 through 9 and now 10)then fedora will never, never, NEVER ever connect to the net .the ip6 lookup kills my cable box, i boot into windows and it can not even connect until i unplug the box for 2 min and plug it back in and get a NEW/renewed ip address .so i do believe that i am going to need to do a text install and disable ip6. But the question is HOW ?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI wasn't paying proper attention when adding a repo to yast and need to find the file were the info is saved to delete this. The problem is that whenever i use yast it comes up with an error code saying that it can't find the data for the 'problem' repo. Have tried zypper rm but that comes up with a similar error advising that the data is in a format that was not expected. My thinking is to track the file were the yast repo source details are saved, delete this and then just add the repos that i use back.
