Fedora Installation :: 'make' Command Not Found - No Wifi Either?

Feb 28, 2009

I decided to switch from Ubuntu to Fedora Core 10 KDEdual boot installation worked perfectly... all smooth!untill i got to installing things....i wanted to install ndiswrapper, so i manually downloaded it on my second pc and transferred it trought a USB stick to the Fedora PC. When reading the 'installation manual' it clearly uses the "make" command a lot...problem is; bash error: "bash: make: command not found"So i google this and i get some solutions, all involving online repositories...so basically... i need internet to get the MAKE rpm, and i need the MAKE rpm to get the internet working... :')I tried searching online repositories but i haven't got a clue about what i need to download from there (to get the make command, or the "Development Tools") and how to install it on my fedora pc....i need help :P It would be much appreciated if someone could explain me how i could get these important packages up and running on my system with manual downloading and installing.I haven't got a clue how to do this manually... I've been on it for hours allready and I'm getting a bit fed up with it I can't understand why such an important package isn't standard included in the installation.

I cant get my wusb54gc to work I have follow all the instructions from [URL] first tried it on mint and it worked perfect--I installed the latest xubuntu and ran into a problem @:
Step 9

Code:

cd /home/user/Downloads/2009_1110_RT3070_Linux_STA_v2.1.2.0

Code:

make && make install

terminal puts out:

Code:

Fedora Installation :: Acer Laptop Hot Key Drivers (shell: Command Not Found)

Jan 15, 2009

I'm running Fedora 10 [KDE] on an Acer laptop and am having problems configuring "hot keys" for it. First thing that needs to be mentioned is that the hotkeys used to work when I was running it on Gnome without me having to do anything. I assumed that this will be the case with KDE too. In any case, I think driver installation is supposed to be quite straight forward. There are two packages: acer_acpi and acerhk and different installation instructions for each one of them. The problem I am having is when I run the makefile script for either one of these, I get the following output in the terminal:

Quote:
Makefile: line 5: KERNELSRC?=/lib/modules/2.6.27.9-159.fc10.x86_64/build: No such file or directory
Makefile: line 6: KERNELSRC: command not found
Makefile: line 6: KERNELSRC: command not found
Makefile: line 6: shell: command not found
Makefile: line 6: shell: command not found
Makefile: line 8: KERNELVERSION: command not found
[Code].....

I think build-essential and some other packages are normally needed, but since you can't get them for Fedora (?), I groupinstalled "Development Tools" and some other group.

Fedora Installation :: No Drivers Found With New F12 Install

Dec 7, 2009

I am trying to install F12 on my desktop. I previously had F9 installed. I zero-filled the harddrive before attempting installtion. When attempting to install F12 from the DVD I get various messages about needing drivers. The drivers listed seem to run the gamut from network cards to harddrives. I have an SATA drive installed as my primary disk. I have not been able to install any version since F9 so I thought I should finally try to nail down what is going on.

Fedora Installation :: CDROM Drive Not Found For Install?

Jul 11, 2010

I downloaded and burned the Fedora-13-x86_64-dvd iso to install on my shiny new box (MSI NF980-G65 MB, AMD Phenom II x4 945 CPU, 8GB Corsair DDR3 memory, generic ATAPI DVD drive, 2 500GB SATA drives, 2 1.5TB SATA drives). I boot from the DVD and and take the default install/upgrade option on the menu. I've tried with the default boot options and with about a dozen different options, all give the the same thing.

Looking console 3, shows the following:

ERROR loader: removing ddmode.conf failed
ERROR loader: got to setupCdrom without a CD device

It can't find the CD/DVD drive that it booted from. The install on console 1 is prompting for a driver to load. Do I need to download a driver for a generic ATAPI/IDE CD/DVD drive?

Fedora Installation :: Install Ok - But Boot Failed - No Root Device Found

Nov 21, 2010

I have 2 Debian OS's and wanted to put Fedora next to it.

Install went ok, but after rebooting it says: "No root device found. Boot has failed, sleeping forever."

During install from the live CD I didn't "v" the boot (efi or something?) because I thought Grub would take care of everything.

Should I just reinstall again and choose the Fedora bootloader? Won't it mess up Grub?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Unable To Install The VLC - Command Not Found

vlc: command not found

I type in "sudo apt-get install vlc-nox" and get the following:

Quote:

E: Couldn't find package vlc-nox

Maybe I'm getting the "Couldn't find package vlc-nox" because I've not enabled the 'universe' component. How do I do that via the command line? VLC's website discusses an alternative way to install VLC:

% sudo apt-get update

Unfortunately, that doesn't work for me either. When I try I get the following error:
