I upgraded to 8.04 on AMD64 machine. I started to upgrade to 10.04 LTS using the System -> Admin -> Update manager. After packages started installing began getting MANY error popup windows saying dpkg exiting with errors. Looking at the terminal window I see a lot of "cannot utime" and it appears to be some error with tar. I saw on another forum that Lucid has a bug with tar. Now the distribution upgrade has just locked. What should I do?

This is no huge problem, but it is rather annoying to me. I am using the 10.4 beta, and whenever I get a large update (like a updated kernel) GRUB adds another boot option to the menu (I'm dual booting Vista and Ubuntu.) So my GRUB menu looks something like this when I turn my computer on:
GNU GRUB version 1.98-1ubuntu2
Ubuntu, with Linux 2.6.32-18-generic
Ubuntu, with Linux 2.6.32-18-generic (recovery mode)

I'm encountering a python error in the beginning of the upgrade. See screenshot. How can this be solved or should I indeed file a bug report? Problem is that except for taking the picture, I've been unable to save the info.

two days ago I updated my Fedora 11 to Fedora 12 which seemed to run fine at first ... until it rebooted after the update process. I was presented with the following error:
Code:
plymouthd: ply-keyboard.c:450:ply_keyboard_add_input_handler: Assertion `keyboard !=((void*)0)' failed
Approximately 5 seconds afterwards it tells me, that the root device was not found. My root volume is a LVM inside a LUKS container, so I guess the keyboard error from above implies that it can't query me for my passwort and therefore open the volume.

I'm trying to upgrade, but have this issue: usually I download the DVD iso, run checksum, burn it, test the disk, and when found ok, I run the upgrade. Now, however, I keep getting "disk not ok" at 95% of the disk test. I have downloaded and verified the iso twice, used 2 DVD's, 2 different DVD-drives, 2 different computers and keep getting this error at 95%.

I keep getting the following msg as I try to upgrade from 10.04 -> 10.10 ... "Could not calculate the upgrade An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade: E:Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages. This can be caused by:
* Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu

If none of this applies, then please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ in the bug report." I don't think any of the issues above apply - can anyone offer advice on how to get around or "force " the upgrade

I updated my up to date F12 to F13. I have what must be a 640X480 display with no way to change it. I get an error:
"Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: pgdg90. Please verify its path and try again" on all Yum commands so no yum installs are possible. I don't have the /usr/bin/GLX command So theAIGLX doesn't work.

I`m having a problem with upgrading my Fedora 11 to either Fedora 12 or Fedora 13. When i start preupgrade, it lists all packages that need to be upgraded, but then it ends with the message that none of the mirrors can be found. I`m seeing the messages in the console, and indeed all the mirrors return "HTTP Error 404: Not Found". Any idea how to change this and eventually do an upgrade?. I also downloaded the Fedora 13 DVD, and tried to upgrade that way, but it never showed me the window which must give me the option to upgrade instead of doing a fresh install. The explanation in the official website clearly shows that this window exist, but after several tries with the DVD I did not get it.

After an online upgrade from f11 to f13, on rebooting the setup attempts to configure the wireless connection and fails with a not very illuminating "error configuring your network interface" notice, offering no option but to go back and try again, which of course fails again with the same error.
Wireless card is a D-link that works fine with the ath5k driver in f11.
how I can get out of this vicious cycle and proceed with booting the upgrade?

I'd like to announce the release of cmus 2.3.0 here. cmus 2.3.0 features gapless MP3 playback, native PulseAudio output plugin (which cures all the problems with PA ALSA emulation present in 2.2.0), very fast metadata cache and much improved compilations handling.
Not to mention tons of bugfixes since 2.2.0, which was released almost 3 years ago.[URL]..

1 - Make a clean install of Squeeze.
2- Upgrade to sid
3- Run this command after installing xserver:
aptitude install kdm kde-10n-es kdebase
Then aptitude installs kdm, kdebase... and brasero, metacity, gvfs, gnome-control-center, evolution... (¿?) I only want to install KDE, why aptitude also install all this gnome crap ? And I say crap because I only want to install the KDE desktop, I use Gnome in my laptop =/ If you uncheck install recommends in aptitude you can make a clean KDE install.

I was trying to update from 9.04 to 9.10.
During the installation, I kept getting tons of errors. Finally something came up saying that I had to abort the installation and it did some stuff. I tried running an application, but I got an error. So I restarted the system.
The normal screen came up where I had to choose the Ubuntu stuff (I'm new to Ubuntu) in the box. I noticed that it had gone to 8.10... which I had earlier before installing 9.04, which went great. So I chose the first on and the system failed to start. I rebooted and tried all the other options, but they all had errors. Now I'm booted to Windows.
I installed Ubuntu from a CD I created. But it is now outdated because it is 8.10, and I have already upgraded to 9.04. 9.04 to 9.10 is where stuff went wrong.

I can't upgrade. I get: Quote: Could not calculate the upgrade An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade: The package 'skype-common' is marked for removal but it is in the removal blacklist.
This can be caused by:
* Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu
This is most likely a transient problem, please try again later. I tried again several times in different days and it is the same. I have 10.4 recently updated from my original installation of 9.10. I think it was not a pre-release, I did it automatically from the website and it took a long time. As far as I know, all I have installed is official, except perhaps Skype itself.

I just upgraded to F15 and it went well. But at the next and each subsequent cold boot the BIOS reports "Your system last boot fail or post interrupted Please enter setup to load default and reboot". The board is an asus P5N-D. I press F1 to blow past the error and all is well until the next cold boot. Restarts are fine, no errors at all.

After one year of squeeze use without problem (and without upgrade) on a laptop and I decided to upgrade everything today. During the upgrade, I was asked what partition grub should handle. There was 2 choices /dev/sda and /dev/sda1. I checked only the last one and this is I think the source of my problem.
Now restarting the system, grub fails and reports
Entering rescue mode... error: the symbol `grub_xputs` not found and leave a useless prompt grub rescue>
I don't have a rescue cd at hand right now. I have a usb key with some old version of eeebuntu (my laptop is not a eeepc) and surprisingly I can boot on it.

I just did an upgrade of 9.10 amd64 system to 10.04. I'm pretty sure I messed up the grub2 upgrade.
When I try to start normally, I get an error like this:
Quote:
GRUB loading.
Welcome to GRUB!
Entering rescue mode...
Error: the symbol 'grub_puts' not found
grub rescue> _
I currently have 3 HD's on the system, all identical, with two of them in a software RAID.
Now, I *can* boot into 10.04 - by pressing F8 on startup, I can select the second of the three HDs, and it will start up normally.
When I do start up, everything seems to work fine, but whenever I reboot, I get the same grub error, and have to manually hit F8 and select the second drive.

After rebooting, my newest kernel throws an error 16: inconsistent filesystem structure. When I select my previous kernel from the GRUB, no problems. How do I debug this error? Or better yet, how do I fix it?

Recently upgraded to 10.10 via Update Manager. After upgrade my Epson Stylus R340 printer wouldn't work. In main menu I went to System->Administration->Printing. Nothing was listed under printers any longer. Clicked Help->Troubleshooting. It suggested to go to System->Administration->Services. No Services menu was listed under System->Administration. In Terminal I ran [sudo lshw], no printer was listed. I then went to the Synaptic Package Manager and searched Epson and checked reinstall on all packages which were installed. The reinstall returned this error "E: gsfonts: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1" followed by several package dependency problems. I then followed the same steps after a search for cups in Synaptic Package Manager. After those packages were reinstalled got the same error, "E: gsfonts: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1". That error was also followed by a list of broken package dependencies. Again I followed the same steps for all gsfonts installed packages. The reinstall produced the same results again.

I have a problem with my system. Fedora 12 64bit I was tinkering with enabling rawhide and upgrade firefox(3.6 / namoroka) and pidgin. Then I disabled repo. downgrade pidgin again with its dependencies (glib2 or was it glibc2). Long story short, the next time i boot up, there are a lot of error / FAILED. Boot into run level 3 is fine. But i cannot use yum and it give error regarding libglib.so or something and phython need it. Locate found those item, so it might be because the version is wrong because of those upgrade / downgrade process. Sorry if the problem isn't clear, but can anyone give direction what should i provide.
