When trying to install fedora with a 4gb USB stick, I get after partitioning the hard drive the following message: "The installation programme has failed to mount image #1 because it's not on the harddrive. I'm a dutchmen, so I hope this translation is correct.

I want to install it, should I get the dvd image, or would it be okay for me to just install off live cd (usb) and install whatever I want through the package manager later... Why/why not? Also on live usb, I can't find the package manager under applications.

From one of the prevous threads, one of the members said that i had to have 2 partitions on my HD. Currently, i already have 2 partitions. Can someone give me advice on what to do??
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install Fedora 12 on my EeePC 901 from a 8GB USB stick. However I get the error each time after clicking Next on the boot loader setup screen. Code: Missing ISO 9660 Image The installer has tried to mount image #1, but cannot find it on the hard drive. Please copy this image to the drive and click Retry. Click Exit to abort the installation. I tried this with the DVD as well as the net install image. I tried setting up the USB stick with unetbootin and semi-manually [1]. I still get the same error.
I've set up the first 4GB SSD (sda1) as / ext4 partition and the second 16GB SSD (sdb1) as an encrypted /home partition. sdc1 is the USB stick and sdd1 is a 16GB SD card in the card reader. They are not used in the installation. I realize, that the 4GB / partition will probably be too small etc, but I'm just trying to get the installer to go the package selection page.
I installed Fedora 13 and on my new laptop and tried upgrading to F15 and it gets stuck at "Late init script for live image".I've been searching and seen threads in the F15 Dev forum that I cannot reply to. I do not have akmod or kmod on this machine.I can get to a terminal, I have an SSH Server I installed before it broke. When I press ESC at the boot screen the last thing I see says "Late init script for live image"

I've followed the install wizard's defaults including the "Use All Space option." The install errors out at about 20% of progress during the "Copying live image to hard drive" process. The error dialog is as followed:"There was an error installing the live image to your hard drive. This could be due to bad media. Please verify your installation media..." and it comes with options to Exit installer or Retry. I have since retried and restarted several times and still came to the same error. FYI, I've initially attempted to install F13 to the HD over an existing Windows XP.

Before I was using Slackware, so now I have in sda1 slack 13.0 and in sda2 debian 5.The problem is that Lilo can't find the ram disk image. I tried to insert in lilo.conf file the line "initrd=/deb5/initrd.img", but it doesn't work. I tried also to create from the installation cd an initramfs file and to make the link "/deb5/initrd.img" point to it.I've used the "lilo -v" command from slackware, so in / was /dev/sda1 with slackware 13 and in /deb5 was mounted /dev/sda2 with debian 5.

Debian-live-8.2.0-amd64-xfce-desktop.iso do not boot in uefi mode. I would like to know if live image can boot uefi mode? If not how can I do later from bios to install grub efi?

When I rebooted the machine it booted up from the dvd but it showed an error message that kernel "image not found". And it stops there itself. Once I get the Ubuntu splash with the oscillating red and white dots for several moments, I get the Busybox with the error message "Unable to find a medium containing a live file system"
If I do a dmesg I then see a lot of sr0 errors. I have an onboard SCSI controller but no scsi devices. I am not sure if this matters.

When using the Ubuntu 10.04 Live CD I had no problem connecting through my wired network connection. After installation all I can find is the Wireless connection.
I have a Toshiba Satellite A70 laptop. A check of the system shows no eth0 available. What do I need to do to get the wired connection back again?
Also, if the wired worked before installation, why doesn't it work afterwards?

I created a Fedora 12 live-usb. Want to use it to discover hardware compatibility on PC's that are candidate for Linux. I tried to "yum install hwbrowser" while in a live-usb session and I get a message that hwbrowser can't be found. What gives? Is hwbrowser no longer available? On another machine I ran hwbrowser and found that the answer on the video driver from hwbrowser is different than from the command line.
hwbrowser yields >>>> driver: i915
the answer I received from the command line interface >>>>> grep Chipset /var/log/Xorg.0.log driver: i810.
heres what happenned:
1. had working xp install on 320 gb hard disk with only one partition.
2. backed up and used easeus to shrink and create new partition on same hard drive.
3. tried to install from a working live cd but got medium not found error.
4. looked for fix but didnt find it so i used wubi to install it to the partition i created.
5. worked but annoyingly slow so looked for guide to switch from wubi to full install.
6. followed guide and it installed to a new partition i made with gparted and it formatted that one to ext4 but i still had the wubi install which i didnt want. (btw, non-wubi is much > wubi install).
7. went to xp to uninstall wubi, delete wubi partition, and grow full ubuntu install partition with easeus. easeus requires reboot.
8. restart comp to find an error that said no partition found and something else about grub rescue.
9. try live cds but hard drive not detected and tried win7 and xp but they didnt even get into setup
10. make plan: get bro to format my hardd disk using his compyter so i csn try ubuntu onw more time
i got a bunch of different types of errors but im really close to giving up on it entirely.

I plan on creating a backup of my Windows installation using DriveImage XML (unless you have a better idea ) then wiping my hard drive clean, creating a new partition for the backup install to live, and then installing Ubuntu on another partition. Is there a method of restoring my Windows backup to partition 1 by using the live cd? Then of course I can install ubuntu to partition 2.

Greetings from Greece. I tried to install opensuse 11.3 in an empty disk . Unfortunately the installation progress stops in 88% and the message error says "error copy live image to the disk". I have burn two different cd but the result is always the same.Is it a hardware problem or the cd is not correct?I had the 11.2 version in the same pc without any problem for a long time.

I reinstalled 10.04.(finally) on a single partition mounted as "/". everything went fine until I rebooted, GRUB began loading and then came back with "no modules name found". I found other postings with the same problem,[URL] but this method doesn't work with the Dmraid.

I was trying to figure out how to use Synaptic to fix some dependancy errors I was getting, and set it to remove a certain package. It said it had to remove other packages as well to do this, well that ended up being Gnome and a whole bunch of other stuff. Silly me.So I was alright without having Gnome and went back to writing simple c++ from this book. I wrote a program to output a range of numbers and ran it but had written it wrong, so it would have ran on for hours. So I just killed the power and tried to start the comp again.
This time after the Dell boot screen it would tell me my system battery was low and strike F1 to continue or F2 to enter setup. Hit F1 and Im told that a file wasnt found and then it goes to the Ubuntu loading screen (The logo and some dots underneath) and then a black screen. Nothing else.I figured I needed to reintall and dont have any CDs so tried to make a live CD and this time when I try to boot from USB device get a "Missing Operating System" error.Its set to boot from USB device before harddrive. Need to know what to do to install again/recover old install.
I know that the second dot release of Squeeze has been released (6.0.2). Why live images still point to 6.0.1?Is that update not going to be released as live?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI can barely use the live session CD of Ubuntu 11.04 because,everything gets corrupted,i cant open new windows because it starts to get horrible, like if i had a graphics problem, managed somehow to open Mozilla and write this, but its impossible to do anything else that needs to open more windows layers...
I never had this problem with ubuntu before... my graphics are intel extreme graphics 2.i cant even use the terminal because it is in few words... invisible, unless I move it but then, disappears.I can work normally using windows. Also i have ubuntu karmic live cd and works perfectly.
i was trying to install windows xp on vbox, but the cd wont work, so i want to make an iso image from the cd and run it from that. after some research, i found this code to use disk dump and make a raw cd image:
