Fedora Installation :: How To Compile .tar.gz Files
Mar 14, 2010
I am trying to get Frostwire for Fedora 12 and the RPM download does not work, I have been checking the web the past 8 hours trying to find version 4.20.3 in RPM format but i came up with nothing. I have a prevous version of it so please do not suggest I get a older version or limewire because limewire has a totally different problem. I downloaded the .tar.gz file and I have no idea how to install it. I think I heard something about having to compile it but to be honest I am compleatly lost in doing this. I have tried other online fourms about how to compile but i just do not really understand them. If you know how will you please give me a detailed, step-by-step guide on how to compile and install Frostwire.
When I try to run VMware 7.1.4-385536.x86_64 I see this message: "Before you can run VMware, several modules must be compiled and loaded into the running kernel GCC 4.6.0 GNU C Compiler (gcc) version 4.6.0 was not found etc.." I am running: 2.6.40.3-0.fc15.x86_64
I am very much a Newbie to Linux/Fedora. Just installed Fedora 10, but having some problems with hardware driver recognition, particularly a wireless network PCI card. ndiswrapper is looking for a kernel in usr/src/kernels, which doesn't exist. In Fedora, is it necessary to compile a kernel? Looking through the FAQ at kernelnewbies, states to extract the kernel to a Linux directory, in usr/src, which also doesn't exist.
I already got the source from here [url] i need ruby 1.8.7 because i want to install activerecord usually i use yum for installing anything. but for ruby,

I am trying to compile the .cpp files and .h files to be able to run a program called PALS. I have like 30 files in a directory (both .cpp and .h) and I do not know if I should just try to compile them all with g++ command.
Is it possible?I am mainly looking for A shell script or program that can convert a Batch (.BAT) file into a Windows executable (.EXE), or A program that can be run from MS-DOS that can turn a batch into an exe.
how i could compile for example: a tutorial file of cantera open source files. when i do :g++ example.cpp -o examplei get huge errors such as the header files are not here,...please tell me how i could compile it. ofcourse i have configured the full opensources and i see in /usr/local/cantera/binthat the files are there but i still can not compile and execute any cpp file.

I'm working with a GuruPlug...maybe you've heard of them.I'm trying to get EasyCap DC60 drivers installed on it(easycap_dc60.0.9.tar.gz), but in the README file I see that the "header files" must be present.nfortunately they are not. This little wall wart runs Debian/Lenny, probably some server oriented build.uname -r reports:2.6.32-00007-g56678ecIt boots to RunLevel 2 and stays there, incidentally.I tried apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -r) but I am told "file not found" or something similar
I have a program consists of header files, .cpp, .c, a Makefile and need to include the problem instances file (.tim).May i know how to compile and run them? From google, i have heard bout the command make.

i am downloaded some e-books in the format .rar. when i am extracting them i am getting error as There is no command installed for RAR archive files. Do you want to search for a command to open this file?
I downloaded and installed successfully vmware workstation 7 on my computer. but now when I run it it ask for kernal headers of linux kernal 2.6.38-10-generic, some C files it is looking for to compile its modules. I have searched the internet for the location of the files but I have not been able to. where are these linux headers stored in Ubuntu 11.04
I am trying to run matlab 7.7 (R2008b) on my ubuntu 9.10 distribution..the thing is that I am totally new with both matlab and linux and I get the following error message from matlab when I try to run an example mex-function:
Warning: You are using gcc version "". The earliest gcc version supported with mex is "4.0.0". The latest version tested for use with mex is "4.2.0". To download a different version of gcc, visit [URL] eval: 1: gcc: Permission denied mex: compile of ' "yprime.c"' failed. Error using ==> mex at 213 Unable to complete successfully.
I had gcc-4.4 as default on my pc, so after this error I downloaded an older version (gcc-4.1) and removed with rm the symbolic link in /usr/bin pointing to gcc-4.4 and created a new one pointing to gcc-4.1. Now when I type gcc -v in the terminal it says that gcc is in the packages gcc and pentium-builder, to do an apt-get install. I tried that but than it says that gcc-4.1 is already the newest version. It seems that I have multiple versions of gcc installed but neither the terminal nor matlab can find them.
I have C++ source code(*.cpp) files that expects it's header files in System's include folder which is/usr/include.The cpp files has include lines like this:
I have made two source files named as sum.c and average.cI have included sum.c in average.c both files in Documents directory.when i compile average.ot followingerror"average.c:4:22: fatal error: sum.c: No such file or directorycompilation terminated. How to solve this issue?I have tried to copy sum.c to usrinclude folder but unable to copy
I recently upgraded from FC12 to FC14 due to errors using yum and rpm. I keep running into mirror sites with RPM files that don't install. These site have what appear to be valid RPM files, but if I use wget to retrieve the file and run "file" on it, it turns out to be an HTML file. I understand the fact that if a file is corrupted, it won't install, but I can open these "RPM" files using Mozilla after changing the extension from RPM to HTML. When I open the new HTML file, I'm prompted by the browser to open or save the RPM file. If I save the RPM file pointed to by the HTML file, I can download and install it using rpm -ivvh unless a dependency check fails. how does anyone install using yum if the package is an HTML file with an RPM extension. Here is a link as an example:
[URL]
If I use wget on this file and then run "file" on it, here is the output:
file openoffice.org-calc-core-3.3.0-20.2.fc14.i686.rpm openoffice.org-calc-core-3.3.0-20.2.fc14.i686.rpm: HTML document text
If I change the extension of this file to HTML and open it with my browser, I am prompted to download the RPM file which turns out to be a true RPM v3.0 file. Is anyone else having this problem or can anyone point me in the right direction to download the correct RPM file. I am running behind a proxy server and have installed cntlm, configured wgetrc, yum.conf and .curlrc to use the proxy server. I am able to download and install most of the simpler applications where the dependencies are either installed or non required.
I'm trying to install on HP ML 350 F13 G6 with standard array controller and 3 drives in raid 5. Well, when the installation process get the screen that shows the files copied (all copied...) , it freezes and does not advance more. Perhaps groped a firmware update? Other distributions are installed correctly.
I've had the same Fedora server (filewise) since it was RedHat, but I'm getting major issues with an open Bugzilla report and I'm considering a brand new install.
The thing is - I've had files on this server since 1999, really, with personalized settings and everything in between.
Is there any easy way to start a fresh install (on a brand new hard drive) and migrate my files over? Otherwise, how does one do a fresh install without losing files and programs they've been painstakingly been trying to maintain for an entire decade?
I don't even know how to install half of this stuff anymore. The computer was on autopilot for the better half of the last 10 years.
Is there an easy way to back up settings and restore them?
The whole code is written in C, C++, and Fortran. Is it possible to make it to use more than 4GB memory. Now it is always crashed when it reaches 3GB memory. If it is possible, how to set up the compiling options (or configure flags)? We can use gcc, g++, ...or intel compilers our OS: Fedora 12 x32
