Fedora :: How To Uninstall Compiz- Can't Login
Jun 23, 2011
I wanted to know how to uninstall compiz which I installed on my Fedora partition, and now that I logged out, I cannot log in, because every time the desktop loads, large errors come up that bring me back to the login screen. I try to load gtk-2 that allows compiz, but that takes me back to the login screen without an error message, which I consider is wierd. Is there anyway that I could uninstall compiz, ccsm, fusion, and similar plugins from my ubuntu partition, or atleast kick them off the start-up program list so I can uninstall them the next time I log in (successfully)

Ubuntu 10.10
It looks like the compiz is making my computer very slow.
On other pc which is even older, I run 10.04 and there seems to be no compiz installed.
Can I simply go to synaptic and unistall all compiz parts or will that somehow completely break or stop booting my 10.10?

I want to uninstall compiz but I have some problems. When I completely remove the package with Synaptics, compiz is still installed on my computer! Few days ago I installed compiz following this website [URL] and it probably explains why. Now how do I revert the process? How do uninstall everything? I tried sudo apt-get remove compiz* but it tells me the it cannot locate compiz-check (even though it is installed)

While trying to fix the audio lag problem with skype I have created a new problem. This is what I did.Everything was working fine until I uninstalled pulseaudiorom pplications>Ubuntu Software Centre>Installed Software. I removed just about everything pulseaudio. I than restarted ubuntu 10.04LTS. When I attempt to login it seems to go black for a sec then kicks me back to the login screen again. I get no errors. If I do "ctrl, alt, F1" I can login no problem so I know it's not my password.

I would like to be able to use compizconfig-settings-manager to set some custom settings for compiz, and then have compiz be the window manager that runs when I log in. The trouble is that I cannot seem to find a good way to have compiz run at log in. I can add "compiz --replace" to my startup programs list, but this loads metacity and then replacing it with compiz and seem to add a bit to the startup time (not to mention it seems to be slightly unreliable).
Further, I tried this: Uninstalled compizconfig-settings manager. In appearance preferences, set visual effects to normal. Everything seems to work fine until I log in again, at which point no window manager runs. Setting visual effects to none makes metacity load.

On login, my skydome (in the Desktop Cube) doesn't load up. Instead, I get a gradient.
I go look in the settings manager and sure enough, I see the skydome image file checked there, and I even changed my gradient colors to be 100% transparent. Makes no difference! All I have to do is change /anything/ in the skydome settings and the skydome image suddenly shows up. Literally changing the gradient color will even make the skydome image show up.

I cannot uninstall Firefox, nor can I uninstall Chromium; one always stays if the other is uninstalled. For example, if I remove Firefox, Chromium will appear in its place and vice versa. This has got to be one of the weirdest bugs I've ever seen on Ubuntu! So, how can I uninstall both web browsers?

I been in the linux world about a whole week now. I have dual booted my laptop with xp and unbuntu 9.04. Everything is great but I would like to delete ubuntu and give fedora a try. I wish to keep windows xp for now. If I use windows to delete ubuntu partions, soon as I reboot grub will be gone and I will not be able to get to xp.
I thinking if I boot to fedora live dvd, wipe out ubuntu partitions, re-create partitions in the exact same space, install fedora and then reboot I will be fine. Am I right here or not. Will fedora reinstall grub, lilo or whatever to the mbr and when I reboot I will get a menu that allows me to choose which os I want to boot just as I am currently doing. Loosing windows is not an option just yet.

I am running fedora 12. I had could nor locate the Tcl/Tk on the system, so I had to download, compile and intstall the raw the raw tar balls. That is now causing some problems and I want to revert to the Fedora Tcl/Tk and reinstall it using yum as the self compiled code may not be well integrated with fedora. The make file gives no room for an un-install. I appreciate any ideas on how to go about the un-installation. Secondly the fedora system is running gnome, how may I switch to KDE instead?
