When I rightclick on the workspace applet, and go to preferences, there is no option to change the number of desktops. Nor is there an option in the "desktop effects" application under System>Preferences.
I installed ccsm, and changing the number of desktops in there does not do anything.
I am running fedora 13.
I only use one workspace anyway, so I was wondering if there was any benefit to removing the other three? By that, I mean performance-wise benefits.

On reboot, the lower panel on my Gnome desktop is missing the 4 rectangles for selecting desktops 1-4. Also, when you open Firefox, terminal etc, there is no tab on the lower panel either.
Is there a way to get them back?

Each type has two options: 32 & 64-bit. What type of download are these, Full Distribution or Live Image?
2. Both Full Distribution and Live Image seem to allow one to install the complete Fedora system, but Live Image appear to be much smaller file. So why should one choose the Full Distribution option?
3. The 4 desktop environments that can be downloaded from the link mentioned in my question 1 above can be installed. But these are also called spins. I thought spins can only be tried out, but not installed, right?
4. Is there a way to be able to use 2 different types of desktops, for example, use KDE for majority of the time and Xfce occasinally? That is, is there a way to just download a specific desktop environment as a package (not the entire Fedora system), for example, Xfce, and then install it on your existing Fedora system (for example running KDE), and be able to switch easily between these two desktop environments? Or one has to uninstall the entire existing Fedora system and then install the other type of Fedora (in this example, uninstall Fedora KDE, then install Fedora Xfce)?
I use 4 virtual desktops and under Fedora 8 and KDE was able for each to have a unique wallpaper. Since installing Fedora 12 and KDE I can't seem to find a way to get that feature. I can name each virtual desktop but not set individual wallpaper. I've searched the documents for both KDE and Fedora, they say how to set the wallpaper but not for individual desktops.

View 3 Replies View Relatedi have installed CentOS along with ISPConfig. For some reason apache will not run it says there are no listening sockets avaliable. I have done a netstat and also tried nmap to see if any other service was using port 80 but it doesnt show anything. I also tried changing the port number to something like 81 still no go. On bootup of CentOS it shows the error and a message saying unable to open logs.

I am getting this error every night at 4am (right about when the cron.daily runs). when it does this, it remounts the filesystem read only. In the AM I get yelled at by users. all it takes is an fsck to fix the problem, but it does it every night. I have tried to rebuild the journal by removing the has_journal flag, running an fsck, and then re-adding the journal... same problem.. and its always the same inode.

Is there a limit to the number of files ext3 can support?
Reason I'm asking is because on one of my internal drives, I have around 750,000 files. The drive is 500Gb and currently using 150Gb... I noticed recently that when I try to copy a new directory or file, the transfer rate is extremely slow at times. It is sataII and sometimes it gets as low as 500kb/s (yes, kb!)
Would somebody please shed some light?

In previous Fedora, we may add the following line to /etc/modprobe.conf
options loop max_loop=64
to increase the loop devices to 64.
However, this method no longer works in Fedora 13.
May I know how to increase loop devices in Fedora 13?
I was nosing around in my /home folder and I noticed that the /.thumbnails directory had 38,000+ files in it. That number seem a bit excessive to me. Is there a way to limit the number of files that are allowed to be in that directory, and maybe delete the oldest files automatically when the directory reaches it's limit in order to make room for the new incoming files, so there are no "directory full" type of errors?

I have a system with one 2.6.35 kernel, one 2.6.38 kernel I built from a koji src rpm and 1 rawhide 2.6.39 kernel I installed directly with yum. Now that a newer 2.6.35 is out, I'd like to yum update my 2.6.35 kernel so I'll have those two in the 2.6.35 range. But the problem is those newer kernels (38 and 39) make yum think there's no update that's available because they have higher version numbers than the new 2.6.35.12-90 kernel. Is there someway I can make yum update to 2.6.35.12-90 anyway? I was thinking I could download the kernel and kernel-devel rpm files for 2.6.35.12-90 and do the yum install for them off the hard drive, would that work?

Right before I installed F10, my F8 x64 had been working flawlessly for a VERY long time and I have been able to verify that the keypad still functions both with the M$ Windoze Vi$ta virus and a live Knoppix CD.Since this is the first time I have had this issue, I don't even know where to look to consider solving this.

Whenever we modprobe a particular module associated with scsi devices, we can see new entry in/proc/scsi/scsi with a greater identifier no. When we do rmmod on that module, the entry from /proc/scsi/scsi wipes off but still the counter of scsi identifier no. doesn't decreases. is is there any way to reset or decrement this counter so that next time when I do modprobe on scsi related module, it will assign no.s starting with 0 ? I found that during registering a scsi device, scsi_register() method gets value from "next_host" (which is a static int initialized to 0) and then increments next_host counter. Also, during scsi_unregister(), it decrements next_host counter. rmmod internally calls scsi_unregister(). So, if it is true then why the scsi host id. doesn't decrement during rmmod?
