Fedora Hardware :: F-15 LXDE - Notebook Keyboard - Several Keys Don't Produce Input

Jul 8, 2011

Several keys of the notebook's keyboard do not produce input

(I am using a USB keyboard to type this post)

OS/Hardware: F-15 LXDE spin, "en_US", keyboard "jp"/ notebook Fujitsu FMV-Biblo NH28D (Japan, 2003).

[url]

[=keys not producing any input] other keys are working:

I have no expertise with this kind of problem. The keyboard used to work on Ubuntu 9.04. I am not positive, but I think it was working on Fedora Gnome 13. It does not work on F-14 LXDE spin, and F-15 LXDE spin. I don't remember either the last time I have disassembled the notebook (damaged connector?)

How do I troubleshoot the problem?

Server :: Gnome Terminal Cursor Keys Produce Garbage?

Jun 17, 2011

Ubuntu 10.04 - Gnome Termainal - BASH pressing cursor keys in certain users produces garbage. For example:

pressing up arrow produces: ^[[A
pressing down arrow produces: ^[[B
pressing right arrow produces: ^[[C
pressing left arrow produces: ^[[D

Naturally, I'd like my bash history instead of this. For root and my main user I have no problems. I have a few system users (who don't have a standard home directory) and this seems to occur with those users. For example, my amandabackups user has a home directory of /var/lib/amanda.

Fedora Installation :: Notebook HP Pavilion DV8000 - Keyboard Layout?

I used to have F9 on my HP pavilion dv8000. I have been trying to install F10 (and even CentOS 5.3) on it and, during the installation process, when I choose the keyboard layout (english) it doesn't go on. Weird because I am using the same disk I successfully used to install F10 on my desktop. What could it be? The same problem happens when I make the installation process in text mode...

Debian Configuration :: Reverse Notebook Function Keys To Default (no Fn)?

May 17, 2011

The top row of keys on my notebook are currently assigned to various media functions (brightness, volume, play, stop, etc.) These keys are rarely used, and it would be better if they were assigned to the function keys (f1,f2,f3,...) by default, rather then using the fn key to access them. Locking the fn key down is not an option. What can I do?

Fedora :: Boot Randomly Hangs And Waits For Keyboard Input

Sep 18, 2010

I have a very strange problem with Fedora 13 on my home PC. When booting it just hangs at random points in the boot process. When it happend the first time, I thought the PC probably is completed frozen, but then I discovered that hitting the return button got the boot process going on again, but just step by step. That means on every boot I have to keep hitting the return button until gnome starts up, that's very annoying. So for any reason the boot process seems to switch to interactive mode somehow...

I already removed the kernel boot options rhgb and quiet to see, where exactly this happens in the boot process. But as I said, it seems to be completely random. Sometimes it's when "Starting udev", sometimes, when setting up eth card, when starting atd, and so on. It's different every time.

By the way, a similar thing happens when shutting down. It can take up to half an hour until the PC really shuts down. But it's usually going faster if I just keep hitting return after issueing the shutdown command (which actually looks a bit dull). But the PC finally shuts down at some point. That's not the case when booting up. I thought, maybe there's some kind of timeout problem. But even waiting for two hours, the PC does not startup without keeping hammering the return button

Debian Hardware :: Getting Sun Keyboard Keys To Work

Oct 11, 2010

I got Sun Type 5 Unix keyboard which uses mindin-8 connector, attached to a PC through a special adapter which converts it to USB. The keyboard's distinctive features are Control key in the middle row (swapped with Caps Lock which makes it a Unix layout - much more comfortable for the pinky) plus a whole bunch of extra Sun keys, including such useful ones as "Copy", "Paste", and volume control. (Sun Type 5 keyboard has very good feeling to its keys, much better than Type 7 one). Those extra keys work as expected with this adapter in Gnome on OpenIndiana (OpenSolaris previously), but aren't supported out of the box on Debian. Looking around I didn't find any good up to date tutorial how to enable them on Debian or any other Linux. Did anyone try to do it?
