Fedora :: Glitches In GTK After Upgrading From F13 To F14?

Nov 20, 2010

yesterday I've decided to upgrade my distro from F13 to F14 using preupgrade. There were no errors during installation, but after first boot I've noticed glitches in GTK widgets in GDM and other windows after logon (strange white strips on buttons, progress bars and more). Moreover there were even worse glitches in gnome-do. I've attached two screenshots to show exactly what I [URL] I think this is a problem directly connected with upgrading the distro as there are no mentioned glitches when running standard live version of Fedora 14.

Fedora :: Scrolling Causes Striping Screen Glitches In Firefox?

Dec 29, 2009

I had to disable "smooth scrolling"

Edit > Preferences > Advanced > General > Smooth Scrolling

I'm using LXDE on a HP510 Laptop, it's onboard graphics chipset is a: Intel Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Graphics Controller. I am not using an xorg.conf file, so the settings are just the default autodetect ones I assume. I've noticed it when scrolling in firefox, and can't seem to get it to do it when scrolling in other applications, but I haven't really used this laptop much since installing the Fedora 12 LXDE spin recently. I'm not sure what information to supply that will help you help me. Here is a screenshot to show what happens.

I dunno what the big black box is, its only visible on the screenshot. I had to bind a script to printscreen to get it to make a screenshot, so its probably something I need to do here to get rid of it?

Code:

#!/bin/bash
DATE=`date +%Y-%m-%d %H-%M`
import -window root "$HOME/Desktop/screenshot $DATE.png"

I also can't get the touchpad scrolling to work. Or my external monitor without some issues. So I think I will be making an xorg.conf file at some point.

Debian :: After Upgrade To 3.0 Series Of Glitches?

Aug 17, 2011

I am using Debian testing on my ThinkPad T400s laptop for almost two years now. I just have been on short vacation, and when I've got back, I saw pretty comprehensive upgrade of vital parts, like kernel (3.0), gnome (3.0), gdm (3.0). Since I am using true Firefox and Thunderbird, they also went up (6.0).

Anyhow, after aptitude safe-upgrade (with some minor problems), I got everything updated. However, I realize that the whole system is much slower and unstable than before. For example, applications are slower at start, Firefox and Thunderbird crash when you want to save something (like attachment, of pdf-file, or the like). Also, problems with unmounting usb drives [URL]... Does anyone else experience similar problems? What would be the best thing to do, to prevent some serious system failure (I need my system for my work, and I always get nervous when this kind of things happen)?

Ubuntu :: Graphical Glitches With New Flashplayer?

Feb 19, 2011

I installed the newest Flash player in an update a few days ago, and now ever since last night, every time I watch a Flash video I get graphics problems. It looks as if the Flash video is stuck in the centre of the screen and if anything black (text, notifications) are in the way, they show the video behind them. Hard to explain what I mean Nothing shows up when I run ps ax.

In addition, all Flash videos are now jumbled up with pixels and weird looking glitches.

- Happens with Firefox, Minefield, and Chromium.
- Using latest proprietary NVIDIA drivers available in Jockey
- NVIDIA Geforce 8400m graphics
- Restarting or using Ctrl-Alt-Backspace always fixes the problem.

Ubuntu / Apple :: Glitches When Moving Windows On 10.04?

Apr 17, 2010

I've just installed 10.04 64bit on my iMac 27" i7 and before fighting with keyboard, mouse, audio. I'd like to share with you a strange behavior of the screen refresh speed, color depth and/or maybe a performance issue with the ATI. It's happening with all the resolutions. The windows borders are "cut" when moving or scaling them, the login screen seems to have a low color depth (as banding issues) and it appears slowly from top to bottom of the screen... for example, when I open the synaptic and the system ask for the password, I can see a very slow fading effect to dark screen.

I've made a full update then install the ATI proprietary drivers (from the ubuntu repositories). Basically I'd love to hear that my problem is a driver issue but it seems that 10.04 comes with the very last drivers from ATI. Does someone experience such a behavior? Does somebody know how to enhance it?

Ubuntu :: Random Graphical Glitches In 10.10 64bit Using Unity

Jan 11, 2011

Its a lot easier to just post a screenshot than to describe whats going on. View attached screenshot. Notice how there are random graphical glitches in the title bar and behind some of the icons in the dock.

I am using the free ati drivers and my gpu

lspci|grep VGA
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc M76 [Radeon Mobility HD 2600 Series]

The pc is a gateway laptop.

I have tried fglrx but there are even more problems such as a extreme mouse and keyboard lag...among other issues.

On a related note, I am often logging out then back in because restarting unity seems to fix the glitches although they eventually return. Is there any program that gives the option of reloading unity, like the compiz fuzion icon? Or some commands in terminal that will do the same thing?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Sound Dropouts/glitches When Video Is Busy

Dec 16, 2010

I am experiencing problems with sound in Maverick on my Dell Inspiron i6400. When the video gets busy while playing sound, the sound gets highly degraded (dropouts, glitches, clicks and cracklings). For example, it happens when an advert animation is playing on a webpage, or when scrolling a document/a webpage. It especially happens when scrolling a document in evince. This is a frustrating issue since I basically cannot work while playing music! My sound chipset is a Intel HDA ICH7.

An important point is that it only happens when I use a "large" screen resolution (eg 1920x1080), and not when the resolution equals or is below 1280x800. Therefore I think this is related to the video side. The two CPU's cores (Intel T2050@1.60GHz) never reach 100% load when the problem arises. The memory is not full either. I use Compiz and various desktop effects, but the problem still remains without it. My video card is an ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 with 256 Mb of RAM (using the default free driver shipped with Ubuntu). Also, the video is fluid and flawless so I do not understand where the problem comes from. This might be related to a priority/ordering issue, I do not know.

The most relevant bug report I found is the following one:

Debian Multimedia :: KDE With 3d Driver - Glitches On Window Decorations When Pass The Mouse Cursor From Windows Topbars

Aug 21, 2011

I installed today debian wheezy from OpenSUSE system via bootstrap. I have some strange behaviour with kde. At first kde worked fine and the only problem was that if I tried to logout from kde session, instead of kdm shows up, a black screen appear with mouse cursor working. I first ignore this error(because I had some problems with audio) and just reboot from vt console or sometimes restart kdm service. After I solved the audio problem I've searched to find some solution about kdm black screen problem. I found on kde forums a solution about terminate xserver option on kdmrc file, which didn't work in my case, but create another problem.

The problem is that now when I pass the mouse cursor from windows topbars I have glitches on window decorations. So I disable the above option again, reboot but the graphics problems was still there. I tried to uncheck vsync from desktom effects and the resault was all desktop effects to be disabled. Now I cannot re-enable desktop effects any more. But now I can logout and relogin. 3D works fine(glxgears works) but I cannot enable desktop effects. And I think that some effects work, because I see some smooth movements and fade outs when I pass the mouse cursor on kmenu items. My card is ATI radeon HD 4650, and I have the xorg-video-ati driver installed.

Fedora :: Upgrading From N To N+2?

Jul 30, 2010

I would like to know if it is possible to upgrade directly from Fedora N to Fedora N+2.

In the Fedora 11 documentation, it was said clearly that it was not possible to upgrade from 9 to 11. The Fedora 12 documentation was buggy, see #547070 In the Fedora 13 documentation, it is only mentioned from Fedora 12 to 13, but it's not clear whether one can upgrades from F11 to F13.

I mean, look at the bugzilla above.

In response to the Fedora 11 documentation which said:

Quote:

It is not possible to upgrade directly from Fedora 9 to Fedora 11. To upgrade Fedora 9 to Fedora 11, upgrade to Fedora 10 first.

Ruediger Landmann said:

Quote:

The Fedora 9 --> Fedora 11 problem was an issue specific to that release; it's no longer relevant.

So, if it's no longer relevant, one would think it is now possible to upgrade from Fedora 11 to Fedora 13.

By the way, how can I re-open a bugzilla?

Fedora X86/64bit :: Upgrading From 11 To 12?

Nov 22, 2009

I had downloaded a DVD disk with Fedora 12 on it (~3.7 gig) therabouts. I used it to upgrade my F11 system to F12 or so I think. Well to make a long story short, it had installed approx 1435 files on to my computer. I never so it finish up the process because my moniter timed out and I could get it back on after it had blanked out. So I rebooted the computer (after I had removed the DVD). It showed F12 booting up but the splash screen with logon was F11's. After I logged on my nvidia driver was gone along with compiz and Avant. So I followed 'leigh123linux' response on 'Nvidia' and get it reinstalled and working along with Avant, and compiz and my rotating cube desktop. I did a yum clean to cllean up the packages and ran yum update again to refresh what may have not been installed. It show a couple hundred packages needed to be upgraded and also had alot of 'dependency' errors' for a lot of the packages. That's where I stand now. Is it 11 or still 12? Did the DVD upgrade work? Who nows.

Fedora :: K3B Not Working After Upgrading To F14

Mar 4, 2011

Earlier in the week I ran the upgrade to move from Fedora 12 to Fedora 14 on my home workstation. After a bit of fussing I managed to get things working for the most part. The problem I have left is a show stopper for me though. I can't get k3b to work right since the upgrade. I primarily use it to copy video dvds that I've created. The first disk that I tried to copy was a dual layer disk and although it fussed about not being able to umount the disk it was able to copy it ok. Then I tried to copy a single layer dvd and can't seem to get that to work. Right away I noticed that it was reading the disk very slowly.

About a meg a second which is a LOT slower then it used to. It then didn't eject the source disk when asking for a new disk which was it's previous behavior. When I put the blank disk in the write failed immediately with an error about not having permission to write to the device. After a bit of fussing without luck to get past that I decided to try and write the disk while running k3b as root. That got me past the permissions problem but still the write failed immediately. I do need to iron out the permissions issue that currently is forcing me to do this as root but my immediate need is to be able to burn disks again.

Fedora X86/64bit :: Upgrading From 12 To 14?

Mar 18, 2011

I have 90 + clients running Fedora 12 on a beefy i7 machines used for various reasons.
The configuration is as follows:

HD = 1 Terabye with the following partition setup:
200 Meg for /boot
60 Gig for /
844 Gig for /opt

Users authenticate using NIS and have their home dirs auto mounted as well as others directories.The issue on hand:

1) We want to move up to Fedora 14 (since 12 is no longer supported).

2) The first hurdle is working around the 200 meg boot partition. Does anyone know of a process which can be automated for this? Currently, I was able resize a client by decreasing the root to 59 gigs and boot to 1.2 gigs through the use of gparted.

3) Is there a utility which will allow me to deploy this using a utility/script on all the clients?

4) Ultimately I want to automate the process without having to touch each machine.
