Fedora :: F12 Compiz Not Responding To Pref Changes?
Dec 4, 2009
I just installed Fedora 12 on my computer, and i have a problem. Compiz isn't running properly. It's not responding to changes that i make in the CompizConfig Settings Manager
The cube runs and the wobbly windows work fine.Am i doing something wrong? I installed Compiz and Emerald. And enabled it from the Desktop Effects menu, but when i change some settings it doesn't respond. My graphics card is Intel, don't know what model
I had fedora 12 installed on a Macbook pro Intel first generation with ATI Radeon graphics card (see the attachment). Compiz crash when trying to watch *.wmv movie codified with wmvvc1dmo on kernel-PAE-2.6.32.9-67.fc12.i686. I want to convert the film to *.mpg, then I download the mplayer codecs in order to see the film, I can do it without problems with the on kernel-PAE-2.6.31.12-174.2.22.fc12.i686. But I updated my system last Saturday and when I was trying to see the movie again the computer began to respond really slow, then I began to close applications and when I tried to restart I got the message: "compiz is not responding".
I tried again but the same problem. Other thing that I noticed is that when the computer go to sleep, when I wake up it, the display show horizontal black spikes, it is like it doesn't have the appropriate refreshing rate. I think that the problem is related with the acceleration on graphic card. Yesterday, I booted on kernel-PAE-2.6.31.12-174.2.22.fc12.i686, and I watched the film, and the wake up was without problems. That is the reason I call it a regression.
Peering into gconf-editor, I noticed that under desktop>gnome>background the picture_filename is the original warty that comes pre-installed on karmic. However, I am not using that BG, instead one that i told the Appearance Preference manager to find and use. Does this app use a symbolic link to refer to the image, or is it elsewhere? Lookin in /usr/share/backgrounds my image does not exist. So what is drawing the BG? Is it nautilus or compiz?
I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.4 and for various reasons I found myself selecting a KDE session without KDE being installed. This has locked me into a situation where I can't boot up/log in properly. I can get to a command line and start the x environment as root. How can I re-set any user's preferences to default (via the CL)? Ie, I'd like to re-set a user (myself) so that I can again choose the log in to a gnome session.
now still don't know how to use that properly.now after a quick sudo tcpdump -n -i eth0 > tcpdump.txtits obvious to me at least that anything 85.9.102.* is not to be trusted.see attached.how do i ban everything and anything from that block, pref without upsetting firehol. whats opinions of ipcop, btw.
I'm running Maverick, trying to change my input method from IBus to Anthy (Japanese) but whenever I click on System > Preferences > Keyboard Input Methods, it won't load the preferences window. It'll say "Starting..." on the taskbar but then disappear. The usual keyboard shortcut does nothing
It's two days now I'm in deep troubles after my last "yum update". The system boots as usual, the graphical login pops up the normal way but no input is handled by either the internal keyboard (the system is a laptop), the mouse pad, the external USB mouse and keyboard.
The hardware itself seems to be working as I can pop up the BIOS menus and even edit the GRUB booting line. But, after GRUB there's no possible input. I've tried to boot the system with the Fedora 11 DVD, rescue menu and then chroot. This in order to run a "yum update" in the hope that the problem was in some broken update. No chance: there's no update.
My questions are:
1. Is there a way to boot Fedora withou any graphical interface from GRUB (or anything else to skip the KDE)?
2. Is there a way to have the (cabled) network activated at boot *before* the graphical login?
3. What the he** is happening to my otherwise pefectly working laptop?
I downloaded quicktime from the apple website because I am trying to get Itunes for fedora (If anyone knows another program that is functional with the IPOD please, let me know), I installed it with WINE, but the program is not responding well with my box. The program doesn't open, instead it black-out my computer screen and when I move the mouse over things, they then start to appear. Anyways...I tried uninstalling all of the files and folders that include the names "quicktime and qt"...then I tried re-installing QuickTime. Now I receive a reply that states "There is already a newer version of QuickTime installed on your computer." When I try
I'm trying to install vsFTP server in Fedora 10. When the authentication window comes up since I'm not signed in as root, it either comes up blank, or refuses to take the root password. When I try to close it, I get a "Authentication not responding" message and a bug report which I don't understand. It being lengthly, here is the first part.

1 week ago I updated my box, and after the reboot and installation of the new kernel 2.6.31.6-166.fc12.i168.PAE the desktop background and the icons of it disappear, and when i click to open the home dear, it loads and than do nothing.I can't right click on the desktop and when i shot down the system it pop's up to me "A program is still running" File Manager Not Responding Sow, first i think is a bug (spread) , and with the next update it will bee fixed but now after 1 week, i updated my system and nothing changes. I can't browse anything, and for now bash is the only friend for me.For info, the same thing happens when i boot with the old kernel
Yesterday I install f12 into my laptop, installation is goes fine, I successfully boot into my desktop all thing is good, after that I update some packages and then reboot my system, after reboot I cant see any thing on my desktop, and when is logout or restart my f12 system a popup messages comes up in which I got the messages file manager is still running but not responding even I also cant right click on my desktop, I reinstall my nautilus but the problem is still there.
Fedora 13 stops responding during an open session. I am not able to open a terminal or any application, although the mouse still works. I able to get to the shutdown menu, although the system will not shutdown. The only option I have is to do a hard rebootfter a reboot, I am able to log on again and the system performs normal for a few minutes. After a few minutes the system freezes again except for the mouse
Got a gigabyte ga-ma78g-ds3h mobo with an amd athlon dual core 5050e processor that occasionally causes this warning at post. Removed and replaced the processor but still occurs, possibly slightly less frequently so it might just be a bent pin and this will be tried again. However i am curious as to whether others have seen the warning in case it is software although i am assuming it must be hardware. I guess it could be a bios bug, the bios was updated about a year ago. Log files and system monitor confirm the missing cpu.
Well I just installed Fedora today on my desktop, and it went all smoothly. Mostly. And when I installed a bunch of updates and restarted my computer, my mouse would be able to say ope up Pidgin or FireFox, and then not be able to click on anything else. I could still move the cursor around, and use the keyboard, I just couldn't click on anything. it's pretty hard to troubleshoot when I can't click on anything!
Why my fedora 12 always hang and not responding?it is any problem with my installation process?when my fedora not responding, the only thing that i can do is restart it again.i did this again and again..
Currently have a problem with my LTSP server when using a gigabit switch with a megabit thin client.I am using K12LTSP with Fedora 9.The thin clients get most of the way through booting up then I get error messages saying:nfs: server 172.31.6.1 not responding, still trying.I don't get this problem if I use a 100 meg switch though.I have found several forum posts on the internet which all seem to point to the following webpage with a solution:However, when I make the recommended changes It doesnt make a difference.Below is an example of the default file located at /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/pxelinux.cfg with its default settings:
I'm using KDE. I installed codecs for playing songs today, and tried to play a song using amarok. It didn't work, rather flooded my tool bar and the system hanged and I rebooted. It was fine before, but after I rebooted, a new problem raised.
Every time I close any window, something changes, and the windows lose their title bars (minimizing, maximizing, closing option), and neither it can be closed from the tool bar (bottom) panel, nor can be moved. The Kickoff Application launcher is also not working. Every time i close a window, I got to log out and re log in. I tried to change in the System Settings>Appearance but nothing works, and even when I close that window, the same happens.
I have an HP mini 1116nr, with the BCM4312 wireless card. I do not have any wireless or wired connection on this mini.I have looked at dozens of posts and different forums, sites, ect and most methods are the same and have not worked for me.The mini comes with a wireless switch to turn on the wireless on the front, I have tried to turn it on at almost every point in my troubleshooting with no change.I have copied and installed the following software pacs via a removable usb hd to my home file in a folder named linux and these are the results I have gotten. I have worked on this for about 10hrs today and several more hours across the week, if anyone can help me I would appreciate a line by line step by step instruction to get through this because it seems I am making an error in the steps in the forum for installing without internet connection.
As i've installed the new fedora update packets ,i've seemed to develope a strange networking problem .. Network description Fedora 15 with 3 LAN adaptors eth0 > LAN (IP address 192.168.0.254)eth1 > network connected to a pppoe conection eth2 > WAN to another provider. Ok so let's ignore eth2 because i've disable mangle(i was using trafic shifting on some ports). So now i'm using it as a simple NAT server .. so the problem is : >>my server is not responding to the traceroute command is it should .. the network works thou but this is what i get. C:UsersDUAL>tracert google.ro
I spent *#@$ hours trying to figure out how to change my default window manager to "compiz-manger".I tried using gconf-editor and .gnomercAnybody has an idea how to do this?
i have a RAM of 1 Gb & swap of 1Gb with fedora11 installed, initially in RAM programme memory uses around 300 Mb & cache uses 600-700 Mb , but after some time it starts using swap memory though my programme memory is still around 300 mb, it keeps on increasing swap memory as a result my system keeps on slowing down & finally when swap memory is 100% system almost stops responding but programme memory is still around 300mb.
Today my keyboard and or mouse repeatedly stop responding some minutes after boot. Currently the mouse stops responding after a few seconds of movement immediately after boot. Yesterday I used the machine most of the day, yet this issue didn't arise. Today I used it for a few hours before the issue developed. I did a full system update from the fresh install yesterday night. It's therefore possible that this issue has arisen as a result of the update, and that today the onset was delayed for some reason.
Earlier today I had the same problem with the keyboard. I replaced the batteries thinking that this was the cause. Now it looks like both keyboard and mouse are affected by the same problem. When the mouse stops functioning and the keyboard remains active, I unplug the mouse and replug it in, but it still does not respond, and only the unplug, and not the replug, are detected and logged in dmesg. I noticed ever since I installed Fedora yesterday that plugging in new usb devices after boot did not result in them being recognised, and that if I unplugged a mouse or keyboard and plugged them in again they would not work (requiring a hard reset). Currently the machine isn't usable as I cannot use the mouse for more than a few seconds. I haven't tried a PS2 connection, and currently I have keyboard access.
Hardware:
Fujitsu LZ945230BH1 USB Mouse Microsoft Arc Bluetooth Wireless USB Keyboard Running Fedora 14.
I haven't tried PS2. My keyboard and mouse appear to be working again (25 mins and still responsive).I unplugged all USB devices except for the keyboard, mouse, and wifi dongle. This appears to have solved the problem. Other devices that were plugged in were a USB to SATA external HDD caddy (powered off), and a serial USB connection to a Sheeva Plug computer (mini server). how I can use all my USB ports in future without this issue arising?
I installed F14 and I have been having some issues with the usage of the ram memory. Here is the situation: while working with firefox, amsn, and VLC, suddenly the system stop responding, I just can manage to check system monitor and the ram is at 89% (of 1GB) and the swap at 50% (of 1.4GB). I can do nothing then I just switch off the machine. After that using the same applications everything is fine. I was using F12.
I have Fedora 10 installed. I've just made an update of my system. Things that were updated were a new kernel version with devel and also something with NVIDIA (which is my video card).
After restart of my system, compiz fusion no longer works.
I have a NVIDIA-Linux-x86-177.82-pkg1.run -file to manually install the NVIDIA-driver so the advanced features of Compiz can be utilized.
After install, the bootup screen tells me that loading the NVIDIA driver has failed. I also receive a WARNING-message.
As said here: [URl] I want the sphere deformation, but that needs the PPA apparently (I can't find it anywhere in the default compiz Ubuntu 10.10 ships with.) Compiz starts, but it says it can't load plugin 'decoration.'
I found Fedora 13 says in in the effects option, that it needs 3D support, my computer has a Nvidia graphics card, si I expect it needs a driver. How does this go. Must I search manually?
I just got F12 and installed it on a new hard drive on my Dell Inspiron 1501. I have an AMD 64 x2 and an ATI Express 200M video card. I installed CompizConfig setting manager, which did nothing. I then installed Compiz Fusion Icon. This makes compiz work but once I start it all of my windows are missing the title bar. I'm noob and not a programmer but pretty good and figuring things out.In Emerald Theme Manager I can view available themes select them, edit them, etc. There seems to be no way to apply them. Am I missing something or is it just not working?
