I'm playing a game (fullscreen) and change some video settings, and the game hangs. I always have to power off the computer and restart.Is there any way to just exit that program, like in windows, one can open the task manager and end the process?
View 4 RepliesI'm having a strange problem with KDE, to which there may be no solution but thought I'd ask anyway. I play several games (Neverball, several MAME games and even ZSNES and others) and it seems that if I have desktop effects turned on, KWIN will crash every time I exit a full screen game such as those mentioned above and others. If I disable desktop effects before starting the game, everything is fine. The games themselves run fine while desktop effects are enabled, I don't have to remember to disable desktop effects before clicking on a game.

Whenever I go full screen with any kind of video in Firefox I get the "press ESC to exit full-screen mode" warning that plagues my screen for several seconds.

I installed 11.3 32 bit KDE on my system I had been running 11.0 32 for over a year.nVidia card, AMD quad, 4 gig RAM.Blender runs fine, fast and clean, when I exit, it takes a couple of seconds before I get control back.If I play a game, ArmagetronIOQuake, FrozenBubble - when I exit I get my mouse pointer back in a few seconds, you see a couple of the windows open on the desktop for a brief second but all goes black. When you move the mouse pointer around the screen it changes as if it is going over an icon or window but it does not recover.

Now full screen isn't full screen and there are black edges on both sides of the screen. I have not be able to figure out how to hide it. I do not need or want this onscreen display. How can I configure Smplayer to make this go away? How can I get my 16:9 full screen aspect ratio back? I have done nothing to mplayer or smplayer as far as editing any or changing any configuration files. I tried several videos and it displays on all of them. It was not there last time I used Smplayer.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI finally bought marble blast gold. a very cool game. i was able to run it on my mac perfectly fine. but now when i install in on my ubuntu machine its not doing what its supposed to. i did a ./MarbleBlastGold 1.4.1.sh.bin after doing the sudo -i command. it installs just fine. but when i go to run the game, i cant find it in the menus. thats ok, i have commend line experience. so i cd to the install folder, and run a ./marbleblastgold, and this is the error i get. so what can i do, and what does this mean? good thing i bought it for all my computers. one copy of course.

View 3 Replies View RelatedThis game is Java based. After rebooting the game works, but on ending the game several notification boxes remain. If these boxes are not closed in the reverse order that the game opened them, it is no longer possible to close them. Only by killing the Java processes can these notifications be made to close. Also after playing the game, even if all these notifications are closed it is many times necessary to kill the Java process(es) in order to get the game to load again at a later time. I am currently using Slackware 1.30, but a similar problem has existed in several of the past releases.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded my graphics card from a Geforce 7600GS to a Gefore 560Ti. And while most things are normal, during boot up my screen isn't "full screen" until X is started, after which everything else is fine. Essentially, all display, the grub menu, the splash screen, console text, etc, is within a box on the screen, with 2" on the left and right, and 1" top and bottom of empty blackness.
From what I understand, this is because the framebuffer is using the wrong resolution, but the maximum resolution that hwinfo --framebuffer returns is 1280x1024 (which I am already using "0x031a".) (My monitors is natively 1920x1080) Is it possible to do something about this? If not increase resolution than at least stretch the screen to full screen?

OpenSuse 11.3 with nVidia drivers.I have the screen working fine though it only runs in 1600x1200@75 using the nVidia driver (GTX260 card).When I play a game in full screen mode all seems OK but when I exit the game then I just get the mouse pointer on a black screen.There must be something present since the cursor changes as I move it, normal pointer -> hand over a link etc. It's just that black on black isn't very readable.

What gives here? Is there another command compatible to "exit" to prevent this, or will I just have the leave the "." part in the PATH enviroment, which is, to my understanding, is not recommended? View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm teaching my son about Linux and he has a system dual-booting Debian Squeeze and Windows XP.Recently, his Windows hard disk ran out of room (It's a rather old system, the disk was 13 GB) and we replaced it with an 80 GB drive that we thought was dead.After successfully cloning the Windows disk, we put the new disk in the old slot (hdd) and rebooted.Windows runs fine with it, but when trying to boot Debian, it ran into a myriad of errors (too many to list here) and eventually timed out trying to deal with this apparently renegade hard drive.The only way we can boot Debian is to shutdown the computer, disconnect the hard drive and boot up.
Rather inconvenient My question is:Is there any way to hide that disk from the Debian system so it doesn't go trying to detect it and run into these snags?I'd like to simply replace it with a brand-new drive, but that's absolutely out of the budget for now.

I have to hold on to the key that I want typed for about 1 whole second for it to be entered... the mouse click is okay, it's just the keyboard.Here's a rough outline of what happened, and the significants events that took place on the desktop that this is happening on.The computer originally had Debian Lenny on it. At some point of time, I just started getting everything from backports... and after some things and hops later, the computer does in fact report having Debian 6.0.Anyway - I again did an upgrade... and now the problem occurs.

My windows machine is dual head with different resolution monitors ( 1600x1080 on left and 1920x1200 on right). If I create a VNC session that spans the monitors, then maximizing a window in the VNC session causes it to stretch across both my monitors.
Instead, I want a "maximize" event to behave like it does on my windows machine -- I only want to maximize to the display that the window is on.
How can I define what, what I'll call, "maximize regions"? Regions in the VNC graphical plane where when I click "maximize", the window only expands to the region it currently ( and mostly) resides in.
Can I do this in gnome, X, xrandr, or some other magical interface?
Got full screen size running with previous release (10.4) by installing "guest additions" in Virtual Box menu. Followed same proceedure with 10.10 and it doesn't work. When I go to full screen still don't get anything but only see 800x600 and 640x480 resolutions.

On [url] when I want to watch a South Park episode full screen it pops up a little box that says "Error Full Screen Not Allowed" and if I hover my mouse over the video connection icon is says
"current video stream 750 kbps* Max video stream 800kbps Avalible in HDGo to Fullscreen *limited by this computer"
The current avaible bandwith speed averages 2500kbps and I have a 7000kbps connection with Speedboost.
When I use Windows XP I can go to full screen with South Park Videos, only in Ubuntu can I not go full screen.
With Hulu it will go into full screen but not always the porpper way. Sometimes it will go full screen but other times it will go full screen but I have to minimize the browser window and then maximize it again and the video will play full screen but apear to be playing on the desktop as wallpaper. I don't get this problem in XP.
This seems to have just started after the last time I did a recomended automatic secuirity update with updae maager. My Video Card is a ATI Radeon 9000 at 1280x1024 true color.
Whenever I try to run something that goes full-screen, the display crashes (a bunch of random vertical colored lines) and the only thing I can do it press the power button and reboot. Anything I can do to fix that? (I know my profile says 8.10 Intrepid; I'm working on a friend's comp, which has 9.10 Karmic.)
