Make: Fujitsu-Siemens
Model: LifeBook P7120
For some reason (hardware - I am guessing) the LiveCD does not boot on some laptops. The LiveCD worked well on my Dell Inspiron 1525 without any problems but my Fujitsu-Siemens refused to boot up. If you are trying to install or use F12 with the LiveCD ISO image burnt onto a CD on a laptop and fails with the following error:[drm:drm_mode_rmfb] *ERROR* tried to remove a fb that we didn't own Boot has failed, sleeping foreverthis workaround may work for you. Sometimes it will come up with another error about 'Root Device Not Found'
The workaround only works on a bootable USB key for some other reason, created with 'live-usb creator' and not a CD nor a LiveCD image on a USB created on a windows machine. I have tried them all.

When running rsnapshot tonight it failed with a bunch of
cannot remove `file': Input/output error
errors.
I navigated to the directory and tried to delete it manually and I got the same errors. I tried with 'sudo rm directory'. How else can I delete this directory? What would cause a situation like this?

everytime i try to install the updates from the update manager i get this error message:
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem. E: _cache->open() failed, i have tried running the sudo dpkg --configure -a in the terminal but when it asks for the password the keyboard stops working so i cant type anything into the terminal. can anyone help me fix this? My other problem was when i try to run the Add/Remove Applications i can't ever install any of the software because it says its "waiting for other tasks" i'm not sure why its doing this either.

When I type sudo apt-get upgrade my terminal show this ?
Code: Select allReading package lists... Done

You might want to run 'apt-get -f install' to correct these.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
libxrender-dev : Depends: libxrender1 (= 1:0.9.7-1+deb7u1+b1) but 1:0.9.7-1+deb7u1 is installed
libxrender1 : Breaks: libxrender1:i386 (!= 1:0.9.7-1+deb7u1) but 1:0.9.7-1+deb7u1+b1 is installed

I have a WD external disk, NTFS file system. I mounted it on my Red Hat. While on the external disk, I deleted a directory, which was sent to .Trash-root of that disk.I went to .Trash-root and did rm -rf to completely delete that directory, but I got the following error: cannot remove `<directory>': Input/output errorWhen I do ls -la on that directory that I wish to remove, it shows me it has 0 files inside. But not only I can't remove it, I can't do anything else with it (copy, etc). And I have all the rights on that directory, so this isn't the problem.

I got a new HDD like a Storage on my Ubuntu ,it is formated as ext3 and i am able to mount it ,but sometimes while downloading from FTP ,when the session broke Ubuntu crates some ./afternature.mp4 Input/output error ,which i can see on "ls -l" ,and that causes great troubles to me ,because i can not copy or write on that disk another file with the same one which is created like this ,these error are gone only if i format the hdd .
My mounting command is "mount /dev/hdb3 /tmp/hd ext3 rw 0 0" So is that possible to remove these error without formatting the disk . PS:I did a lot of search for that error ,on unix forums also here but i didn`t find a concrete answer ,i found a thread which is for that case but removing with inode is impossible because on ls -l i`m not receiving the inode .

In both of these areas, when I actually go to "Install" the things, whether it be adding or removing programs, or doing the Update Manager, I get the same error as soon as I click "Install," and it fails to install any selected programs/updates.
Here is the following error:
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
I have not been able to find this "sudo dpkg" file to manually run.

I need to delete all *.trc files that are older than 30 days and I am getting a "Argument list too long" error. There are other files that should not be deleted which is why I am using the "*.trc" and newer files need to be kept as well. I have seen other postings but they do not cover both of the conditions. Below are 2 of the many attempts at doing this but I cannot get this to work.
find *.trc -mtime +31 -print| xargs rm -f {}
find *.trc -mtime +31 -print -exec rm -f {} ;

The error message I keep getting during mounting is:-
device-mapper: remove ioctl failed: Device or resource busy
This is from ane external USB HDD I use as a backup device. I've tried formatting it as ext4 ane encrypting it from the command line
# mkfs.ext4 /dev/sdc1
# cryptestup luksFormat /dev/sdc1
which run without errors but an attempt to mount throws up the above error as well as saying - you must specify the file type (tried that) - and fails to mount. I've tried using YaST to format and encrypt it which throws up the same error when I run mount but actually does actually mount the filesystem Googling around has brought up info saying that it's probably a race condition brought on by invalid udev rules. I've got a (mostly) working system and the udev rules documentation leaves more confused than when I started.

When I am adding removing packages to get more hard drive space, this is not the first time I left too many pages open and it crashes on me. My son would fix it by typing in the terminal sudo something, but I want to know how to do this. The only thing not working is the add/remove packages at the moment. Here is what it said, E:dpkg was interrupted you must manually run 'dpkg--configure -a' to correct the problem E: _cache-open()failed please report. Please, could someone tell me how to get the default back or whatever. When I type in the terminal, it refused my password until I tried several times, plus, it finally says in the terminal No such command. Bash. No such command. I am hoping this question is one you do recognize the answer for.
I tried using Yum to remove the package. Like this:
To remove or uninstall a package:
Code:
yum -y remove ,package name>
Terminal goes: Bash syntax error near unexpected token `newline'

I accidentally clicked on a wireless network once and now every time I boot up, it tries to connect to that network and asks for the password. I have to keep pressing cancel and then it connects to my regular network.
I tried fiddling around with the network settings but I couldn't see any place where I could remove that network from the 'List of preferred networks' or at least try to prevent it from connecting automatically.
How to remove this network from the list of preferred networks? Edit some file somewhere maybe?
