Or another plays through the FBI warnings and stops. Or plays the video for a bit with background music leaving out the speakers voice, then stops.
Once I got a note that said I need gstreameraudiosink or something like that.

I can not watch a DVD video using Movie Player. It gives the message: An Error Ocurred Can not read from resource. What does it want me to do ? Buy a new DVD player ? I have no trouble with this drive in another distribution on the same computer, or playing audio CDs in this very Debian OS. So I don't think there is anything wrong with the DVD drive. VLC won't do anything either.

Movie Player (An error occurred, could not read from resource)
VLC (loads the disc, shows a time of 00:00, and just won't play) GNOME MPlayer (pretty much the same as VLC, loads but won't play)
The funny thing about all this is that the one burned DVD I tried (no menus but structured as a DVD) will play, I'm thinking copyright?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an audio recorder that doubles as a music player. It can play WAV files. So I put in some WAV files and they are out of order, even if they are named numerically. Read somewhere about a little CLI software called fatsort so I installed. The device is located at /dev/sdc. So naturally I write fatsort /dev/sdc, it says something about permission. So sudo fatsort /dev/sdc. Thing is, it says:
Code: sort_fs: Device or resource busy! If I "eject" it (unmount) then it says something about cannot read boot sector or headers. On Windows there is FAT Sorter. It does not work in WINE. So every time I put something in, I have to get to a Windows computer to sort it. It seems like fatsort is the only program that sorts FAT systems in Ubuntu/Linux.
Ubuntu 10.04 with proprietary nvidia drivers enabled. Ubuntu restricted extras also installed.
Can't play DVDs on Ubuntu. Totem gives the "Could not read from resource." when trying to load a DVD. VLC won't load it either.
Any packages I am missing? The movie is Pirates of the Caribbean if that matters at all.

Device is not mounted, and directory is not in use, it has just been created. There is nothing in log files that could remotely point the cause. After removing device (echo 1 > /sys/block/sdb/device/delete) and reattaching it, disk started working.

My log in most cases shows errors like the ones below:cannot fork [Resource temporarily unavailable] Connection reset by peer I am 100% sure that the scripts are not at fault since it has been working with no errors for months. I want to monitor the server for what resource or configurations I have to tweak to get around this problem if possible, am I exceeding my ulimit settings running out of process,out of memory/swap space etc?
I wish I could stay up 24x7 to monitor to monitor the server but I can't. Can anyone please advise if there is any monitoring script available somewhere that I can put in cron to temporarily monitor the server for resource issues, for example memory used/left, swap space used/left, ulimit-num-process used/left, nofiles used/left etc.
I am running the default Gnome 3 Fedora distribution with Exaile installed in the place of the default media player. When I restart Exaile gives error that the resource is not found. However I can open and play a file with VLC media player, and afterwards exaile works just fine. I have installed a program call Fedoraplus and used the option to install most codecs, when everything is working I can play just about anything.

Then, I want to ssh to another machine in another department (I don't have control over the krb5.conf file or this would have been easy) where I work. It is on this machine I want to be able to ssh,scp, etc to this far off lab. I've tried several options around this barrier, but I'm a total failure thus far. So I cant seem to be able to install fedora 15. I think it is the disk. I have windows 7 already installed (and would like to keep it) It was installed on the end of the hard drive leaving a 100 GB chunk in the center of the drive open and unformatted (this may be the problem). View 2 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone else have a resource monitor appearing on their KDE desktop? My is in the upper-right corner, and lies on top of all other windows. I can work with windows beneath it alright, but it is always showing.
The resource monitor is always translucent, and appears to have some sort of vertical "thermometer"-style usage scale on its left side. Beside that are two scrolling graphs. The only text/label appears to be a percentage that matches the thermometer bar, but there is nothing to tell me what resources are being monitored. Regardless, I use other resource monitoring software and I do not want this one on my desktop.

Both dev/sda and /dev/sdb were drives that used to be part of a sil hardware raid on a previous machine. I would like to use them as a new mdadm raid on this new machine the old hardware card was really quite slow. the drives are now pluged into the MB and should be much faster there.

I have Fedora 8 and we just switched over from a Windows "File Server" to Windows Server 2008 (10.1.1.17). I updated my fstab file and now when I go onto the Windows folders, I can list and read files, even save them, but new files are always read only.
fstab file (some, without the asterisks):

I've tried ntfs-3g, auto, ntfs, smb, some umask combinations, changing ownerships, changing permissions, everything I could think of, but still can't modify new files.

Several weeks ago I was in the midst of downloading a program from the software center and my system starts running slow (this is in the Ubuntu kernel, not the Windows OS). So I decided to cold-boot the laptop in mid-download. When it boots back up, I get dropped to a grub-rescue menu that states the following:

Now, the only way I can even remotely use my laptop at the moment is to use my Live USB with the corresponding version of Ubuntu Netbook 10.10 or the Live CD I made with Ubuntu 10.04 on it (I'll explain why I made this below).
I read somewhere that I need to run fsck on my device to try to fix the partition, which btw my Ubuntu partition on my device is /dev/sda5, and before someone suggests it, I even tried using GParted and it doesn't work.
The reason I made a 10.04 CD is because I read somewhere that using the fsck from 10.04 might be more effective (for whatever reason) than the 10.10 fsck version.
I'd also like to add that I'm incapable of booting onto my Windows OS at all, yet I can access the partition from my Live CD/USB. the Ubuntu partition however, I can neither access or mount.
I tried running fsck on the entire device partition table, and I get the following:
