Fedora :: Cannot Find Demultiplexer Plugin For MRL ?
Sep 28, 2009
I am currently using Fedora 11 KDE as my primary operating system at work, but i am having a little bit of troubles getting an audio player to work properly.
I am trying to play music off of a separate primary FAT32 file system (which is my shared drive amongst all my operating systems), but when i attempt to load the files via JuK, i receive this error: cannot find demultiplexer plugin for MRL.
I have been playing around with other players as well, and it seems like the only other player which will actually load up the media on this separate partition is Banshee, but doesn't seem to want to play it.

After starting Kaffeine and activating the television part the default channel should be displayed but no video and audio.
When I click (single click) on one channel of the channel list the above error message is seen.
I terminate Kaffeine and start ME TV.
ME TV works. I terminate ME TV and restart Kaffeine. Now Kaffeine is working correctly.
It seems that Kaffeine has a problem with initializing.ME TV is initializing something what Kaffeine does not initialize.

I had the above message when I first installed openSuse and tried to play DVDs. I tried googling the above message, thinking that I was missing some software. It turned out that the message simply meant that it couldn't find the dvd.
Messages such as:
Cannot find plugin for MRL [cdda:/]
Cannot find plugin for MRL [dvd:/]
Basically mean that SuSE is having problems finding a cd or dvd. This is most likely due to symbolic links for cdrom and/or dvd not being present.
I was having this problem on Kaffeine. Also having problems playing dvds on smplayer and VLC player.
I found the answer to the problem on the following thread (all credit to jdmcdaniel3 for the key initial post), which does a very thorough job of explaining about the 70-persistent-cd.rules file, where to find it, and what you can do with it.
Multimedia Optical Drive Naming (ie /dev/dvd & /dev/cdrom) Howto in opneSUSE - openSUSE Forums
The thread explains how to edit the 70-persistent-cd-rules file or, better, to create a copy called 90-persistent-cd.rules and edit that file to add symbolic link entries for cdrom and/or dvd if they are missing. Doing this it is possible for the cdrom and dvd symbolic links to point to the same physical drive or to different drives, depending on what you wish to do.
Kaffeine seems to expect to find things in cdrom and dvd. It will work once you have set up the symbolic links for these as described in the above post.
If you simply look at the 70-persistent-cd.rules file, you will see the symbolic links allocated to the cd/dvd drive(s) on your system. If you make a note of these symbolic link values you can use them to set the drive information in applications such as smplayer or VLC player :
VLC player - go into Media/Open Disc and set the drive accordingly, depending on whether you are playing a cd or dvd. Needs to be done each time you play a cd or dvd.
I think creating the 90-persistent-cd.rules file as mentioned above and adding the entry for cdrom and/or dvd may work for other cd/dvd playing software that expects to find these links, but I haven't tested running anything other than smplayer, VLC player and Kaffeine. These cover my requirements.
Following the above I am now able to play cds and dvds in my cd and dvd drive respectively.

After having installed Kaffeine on Ubuntu to use for watching Terrestrial Digital TV through my tv-tuner, on Lucid, Ubuntu 10.04.
After installing Kaffeine and the proprietary driver and firmware for the card, starting Kaffeine gave me the following error;
"kaffeine cannot find demux plugin for MRL"
I found this problem difficult to find a solution for; but did eventually find mention of a set of plugins which would provide what Kaffeine needs;
libxine1-all-plugins
This was originally mentioned at old nabble: [url]
I installed this, along with all the Medibuntu plugins (just to make sure) and my Kaffeine then worked without troubles.
Basically, I think if i'd originally installed according to the instructions found at the Kaffeine community website: [url] i'd have had no troubles. However, I must say I expected all dependencies to be met simply through the apt-get install process. Not so for the plugins of course, as I should have known.

Error message: Cannot find MRL plugin for [dvd:/]
Trying to play dvd that worked under 11.1 and original dvd version of openSUSE 11.2. It failed after a update.
Not sure which one since I do not normally play dvd movies on my system.
Checked all multimedia rpms and they are all from packman except kaffeine which is KDE4 version.

I am currently running Lucid, and in every single attempt to play any mp3,it claims that it cannot find a suitable plugin, which is weird because I am nearly 100 percent certain that I did install all of the restricted extras. The funny part is that it is trying to install a Soundblaster Voc plugin?

Upon trying to open a .wmv file, the system says it wants the above - which I suspect is not provided under the same name and is proprietary. Can anyone suggest the name of a plugin in the repository which would suffice? The file came as an attachment to an email file.

opensuse v11.2, linux 2.6.31.12-0.1-desktop x86_64 Gnome desktop
I went to add a Tomboy plugin that provides popup reminders. It required a do-it yourself approach using configure/make/make install. configure complained:
Code:
Neither a web search nor a search in <live.gnome.org> yielded any results for "tomboy-plugin."
Is there such a package? And where might I get it?

While using Rhythmbox this morning, I was greeted by a blunt and undiscriptive error message:
Code:
Plugin Error:Unable to activate plugin Cover Art.Going to the plugin page, I was supprised to find that most of the installed plugins would not load. Without any info being offered in the player, I looked on line. Many people had problems with other plugins, and most of the time it was a problem with an uninstalled python package. But I checked on this site and I found that I had all of these packages installed. (Well, the python ones at least, to check all of them would take forever.)
Code:
[URL]
After finding no help there, I ran rhythmbox -d to debug:
Code:

In my frustration to get adobe flash working in firefox I deleted the /usr/lib/flash-plugin folder. Now when I try to uninstall "Flash-Plugin" from YAST it fails as it can't find the sub-folder. I also cannot install the latest version of flash player as it says that it is already installed - So I am stuck in a loop.
I am running SUSE 11.2.
Is there a config file of installed programs that I can modify to remove the "Flash-Plugin" entry, or is there another way to get over this problem.
