Debian :: Remove The Black Area Behind Conky Without Using Compositing?
Mar 29, 2010
I am NOT willing (nor is my IBM T41 for that matter) to make from source the new conky 1.7.2, so can someone give me a deb file for squeeze that I can install to my system to replace my current 1.7.1 conky? I really want to use lua scripts. (Specifically: [URL])
how to remove the black area behind conky without using compositing?

Said that all the config i find put all the info in one place of the screen, in this example on the right side:
url
or like conky colors where you can put in either side, or other complex examples that use folders with images..that at least i need one day to study all the variables it has...
What i want is something simple, in my black background i dont want images and effects, only white simple text.
My problem is: i want for instance my specs above, my log info in the middle, my music info bellow (above my clock) and in conky config i'm hitting my head in the wall....
For instance if i use my facebook script to appear in the midle how the hell can i put my music info bellow without ruined the facebook in the midle...do i need 2 conky configs?

I was wondering how to set black fonts in conky, I'm pretty new to the software. This is my .conkyrc. I cobbled it together from a few different sources:
Code: background yes
use_xft yes
xftfont HandelGotD:size=9

openSUSE 11.2 i586, ASUS P3-P5G43 Rev. R1.04G Intel Core2 Duo CPU E8400@3.00GHz, Intel G45/G43 Chipset The Problem: The screen is for the WSXGA+ (1680x1050) standard. This resolution was detected, at the initial install and later with sax2. It shows the desktop with a 1 inch wide black area along the right border of the screen and that is exactly what is missing at the left border (i.e. invisible). It is like the desktop is shifted to the left of the screen. As far as it is visible the image is crisp and clean. Lowering the resolution to 1280x960 works ok, but the aspect ratio is no longer correct. I have checked the archives and found Intel integrated graphics - openSUSE Forums but trying different hints from the thread did not help.

Well, earlier today I installed 'conky-all' and now I can't seem to remove it. To install it, I used:
Code:
sudo apt-get install conky-all
I then used a conkyrc that I found on an internet tutorial. It seemed to run okay but it was very ugly so I tweaked a few variables. However, after doing so, I couldn't get conky to work again. So, just to see if it was the variables that I set which could have broke it, I changed the conkyrc file back to that ugly one which worked before. I then tried to run conky again and this time it didn't work either.
I then decided to remove conky in an effort to reinstall the conky, this time just conky as opposed to conky-all. I used:
Code:
sudo apt-get remove conky-all
Thinking that I had successfully removed conky, I did another apt-get to install conky. When I couldn;t get that one to work, I tried to remove it. However, this time I decided to check and see if it was actually removed, by using:

I just ran one of my weekly upgrades last night (I'm using sid with the 2.6.32-5-686-bigmem kernel). Now compositing no longer works with kde (4.4.5). When I click "resume compositing," I get a message saying "Compositing has been suspended by another application." I'm using the radeon driver. My middle mouse button also stopped working after the upgrade, i.e., I can't use it to copy and paste; can't open new tabs in any browser using the middle button. (The mouse works perfectly in my other two computers, both of which still have kde 3.5.10 installed.) None of these problems existed before last night's full-upgrade, so the upgrade definitely broke a few things, and I don't know how to fix them.
glxinfo | grep render says direct rendering is working. But when I run glxgears, I only get text output, without the animated gears. The results from 'glxinfo | grep -i opengl' say "OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on AMD RS880.", and Im guessing that Gallium is causing my compositing problem. Would this also explain why the middle click on my mouse no longer works? Does anyone know how I can get compositing working again, and my mouse?

After setting a new sid system with Compiz, I noticed the volume display shows a brown/maroon border around the icon. I payed no real mind until I installed Docky which really shows the issue. A solid patch of that same color on either side of the dock. When using Metacity the problem is gone, so I'm thinking it's a Compiz issue or video driver issue. I have an Intel chipset. I just tried to install KDE in Debian testing on the machine with Nvidia Geforce 7300 GS using Nvidia driver (280.13-1). However KDE breaks when compositing is enabled, and the only way to make it work is to disable compositing. This problem seems to exist for a while already:[URL].. Is it really Nvidia's problem, or something with KDE? Is there a point in contacting Nvidia about it?

I use Debian Squeeze and I would like to ask if someone knows a program to take a screenshot of a selected area of my screen. I already know imageshack and scrot, but they don't do what I need because I need to know previously coordinates and the dimension of the selected area. I need a program that I could select a rectangle with my mouse to take a screenshot of that part.I don't know if I'm clear what I'm trying to say is that I need something like this google-chrome plugin[URL]

I'm currently tweaking ubuntu to my liking. I got rid of the "menu bar" and replaced it with the "Main Menu". I don't like the black arrow on the Main Menu so I followed the instructions to get rid of it posted hereI got to the part where I type "sudo make" However, I get the exact error posted hereI tried to follow the solution, I installed libpanel-applet2-dev using synaptic. I tried to edit the "Makefile" in the directory /var/cache/apt-build/build/gnome-panel-2.30.2. However, when I opened this make file I did not find any line calledpanel-compatibility.$(OBJEXT) panel.$(OBJEXT) applet.$(OBJEXT)

At home I have two computers running linux connected to the same router. I would like to be able to connect them so that I can move files between them and execute simple commands. What is the most simple way to access a prompt on the other computer or to mount a partition currently used by the other computer?Using the www it is possible to connect two computers using ssh, but it should be easier to do this over the LAN, right? I have been googling a lot but not found anything.

Things beyond my control are causing me to rush a bit in getting the website moved. I'm working hard to try and get it done, but something else has come up that SSL Certificate.I know that our website's "basket" area is protected by an SSL certificate to ensure customer information, especially credit info, is secure. With the move to Amazon's service, it looks like I may need to create our own self-signed SSL certificate to ensure the basket area remains secure.
I have found guides that walk through how to make one yourself and configuring apache to allow it, but something else has come to mind. The guides I found don't really indicate where the SSL certificate goes afterwards, and also doesn't suggest which sections should be governed by the certificate (as only the basket section uses it, not anything else). How would I find out that information?

For some reason my Conky is making my machine do infinite DNS requests to the last host I'm connected with. For example, if I visit forums.debian.net it'll start the infinite DNS request to this host. If I close the navigator it stops. If I try to connect to irc.freenode.net it starts the DNS requests. If I disconnect it stops. Why is it happening?
That's my script:
Code: Select allbackground no
update_interval 1
total_run_times 0
own_window yes
own_window_type desktop
own_window_transparent yes
[Code] .....

I am having a hard time getting conky execp/execpi to correctly parse output of the scroll variable generated from shell or PHP scripts.
Code: Select allDebian 8.0
Xfce 4.10
Conky 1.9.0-6
This is a simplified minimal conky configuration file used to show the same problem:
Code: Select allalignment bottom_middle
background no
border_width 1
default_color white
default_outline_color white
default_shade_color white
double_buffer yes
[Code] ....
Here is the output I'm getting:
Code: Select all ABC /*doesn't scroll, UNEXPECTED, shows 10 spaces before ABC*/
ABC --||--
abcdefghijklmnopABC /*doesn't scroll, WORKS AS EXPECTED as scroll length is 25 which is longer than text "abcdefghijklmnop" */
abcdefghijklmnopABC --||--
abcdefghijklmnopABC /*WORKS, everything before ABC scrolls 5 characters at a time*/

I am new to linux and ubuntu, but it seems like this bloody bug has not been solved for years. There are many threads as i googled, back from years 2007, 2008... After lucid, i was hoping something (i do not know, if i should have) and googled recently. Found this:[URL].. That xserver thing (which i have tried before for 9.10) does not work!
What am i going to do about this? I cannot even use edge flipping because of that bloody resizing/maximizing problem. I cannot use stuff like docky. No compositing!
Until when should i wait? Is there a possibility of this bug being solved? Should i give my notebook to some windows user and get an nvidia one?
