View 1 RepliesI had an open office document text and accidentally over-wrote it with a completely different file! i am not sure how it happened but it seems like I "saved link as" from a browser and accidentally double clicked on the existing file - and it now contains the text I was downloading.
does ubuntu save old versions of documents? does open office have a revert function? i really need the document that was lost and it seems like this problem is way too easy to make for there not to be safeguard,
When I open an open office document from an NFS share it always opens as readonly. This was a problem I had on Arch linux and the fix was to change the locking options in the soffice script but I've tried that fix here and it doesn't work. I've seen a lot of discussions but they all go back to changing the locking options in soffice, has anyone got any alternative fixes or one that definitely works with locking?

Open Office works fine when I run the command "startx" in the Konsole but so far I haven't been able to configure it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just found out about Libre Office. I am currently using Open Office on my Netbook (ubuntu 10.10), and NeoOffice on my Macbook (OS/X 10.6.7).
QUESTION: I have some backups using these formats: .sdw, and .odt. Can Libre Office read documents saved in these (StarOffice / Open Office) formats?
FWIW: I would have preferred to use OO on both machines, but unfortunately OO never fixed a problem with printing envelopes in the Macintosh version. Hence my use of NeoOffice.
Libre Office can be removed from Ubuntu 11.04 without making a mess of an installation but when I began ot attempt the same with Debian I was concerned it would take too much necessary stuff with it requiring a fresh install. I use Abiword and don't need Open Office. Can it be removed somehow cleanly? How would I do this? I partly want to do this as there seem to be a lot of Open Office-related Updates which is waste of my Mobile Broadband limit.I am using Debian 6.01, 64 bit Gnome edition.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have both installed, but since LO is going to be the way Ubuntu goes for office applications, can I easily have my system setup for native LO? Native being if I double clock on a .doc file it will start up LO's Write program instead of OO.Will just removing OO achieve this or is there an easier way? I looked for file associations and didn't find it.

View 3 Replies View RelatedSometime ago I realized my Open Office had changed, I don't remember having done anything in particular but today it isn't the regular open office but what I believe is a KDE version or idk. The theme changed and instead of regular menus I get "window" menus, in the sense that they get effects as regular windows. It's hard to explain it.

I realise that passwords are a good thing but I'm getting fed up having to enter a password just to get my wireless network to work every time I switch on Ubuntu or when I log out and back in again.
Seeing as there is nobody in the house that I want to keep away from the computer, is there a way to automatically sign-in to my wireless network without having that annoying key-chain popping up every time?
I have to enter the root password every time I want to run
Code:
sudo vpnc
and I know that there is a way to avoid entering password every time but I can't remember what it is.
I love My linux OS, and I carry It with me all the time in USB. I used to be able to boot from USB in the University computers, but not any more. Now it required Admin password in order to boot from CD or USB. I tried The VMWare, but I didn't like it. Is there any way I can get around it.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm running Ubuntu 9.10 as a web/ftp/etc server. I like to work on stuff from remote locations and have set it up to be accessed it with the external IP address by my laptop. The problem is that if I'm at a remote location and tell it to restart, when it boots up it won't log me on unless I enter the password, but I can't remote access it until I'm logged in.So, is there a command or script that I can run that will tell it to restart and bypass entering a login password?I'm only looking for something to bypass it ONCE per command/script, NOT to disable my password.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy system software is installed on an encrypted LVM on hda1 and hda2. My home directory takes up the whole of hdb1 which is also encrypted. I can boot up into the kde desktop okay, but when I open up konsole and type 'su' and my root password I get the message "su: Authentication failure". I am absolutely certain that I am using the right password.
Even more strangely, if I fire up synaptic and give it that same password I am able to install software. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what's gone wrong and how I can fix it?
I can also type Ctrl-Alt-F2 and log in as root to do administrative tasks without any problems so I cannot understand why konsole has locked me out.
I can't get open office to run. I believe I need jre1.60 to run this. I have jdk installed since I need this for java programming. Can I also install jre1.60 and use jdk as well?
