May 2, 2010Did a fresh install of 10.04 Desktop 86_64 this weekend. One of the first issues I noticed right away was that apt was not function properly. Say for example you install the packages tor and vidalia (assume I'm running everything from root). #apt-get install tor vidalia This command will check and install necessary dependencies, for example 'privoxy'. Now if you decide that you don't want to use privoxy and instead use polipo, you would probably feel inclined to remove privoxy. Well I found that apt-get autoremove, apt-get remove, apt-get purge WILL NOT remove all the files/directories associated with the package. You'll find that after running each of these commands, there will still be directories, scripts, etc. in /etc/init, /etc, and /etc/rc*.d. The only solution I've found to completely removing a package is aptitude purge [package].

I've already configured and installed the package (using the usual ./configure, make, make install) but I wanted to make a deb for future use (for myself and for others). However every time I try to run dpkg-build I get the following error message.

Jul 22, 2010I'm trying to build the package zaptel on debian, but I'm encountering two errors:
1- When I try to run the "make menuselect" command, I get an error stating that I need ncurses which is missing. I tried to get it installed but didn't get to do it yet.
2- After that, there's the command "make" I think it's to build the package. Yet again this fails, and the error I get is "you do not appear to have the sources for the 2.6.26-2-686 kernel installed".
Debian :: KDE Do Not React On Left Mouse Click After Boot
Apr 6, 2016I've successfully installed debian 8.3 KDE to my desktop fill it with different progs and quite smoothly use it for about one month.
Fixing some minor issues with google. But suddenly something get wrong
I do not remember that I done anything special but one day after logging to system I found that system do not fully process left mouse button.
Mouse pointer was moving OK, right mouse botton was able to envoke pop-up menu.
I was able to run programs from desktop icons by left-mouse button click .. but once program window was opened it does not react on left mouse button so for example i was not able to switch between browser tabs or close window clicking on it it top right cross As well KDE "start" button do open menu but that's all no reaction on left click.
First solution was ctrl-alt-del wait for 30 seconds .. re-login and voila ... that restores normal behavior until next reboot
after some reading I found more quick workaround ctrl-alt-F1 ..... ctrl-alt-F7 and OK system works again as expected no problem with mouse at all...
I've tried to create another user, tried to reinstall kde-window-manager (kwin) and kde-plasma-desktop (just marking it for reinstall in Synaptic) no effect.
After some time it become react on left mouse button even worse .. so even KDE start menu button stop open at all after click strange but really like it was some live slowly dying organism .
ctrl-alt-F1 ..... ctrl-alt-F7 is my only life saver at the moment but it is only workaround ....

Oct 24, 2014I have installed Jessie on my Dell Inspiron 7340 and the touchpad works fine with xserver-xorg-input-synaptics. However, when the system wakes up from hibernation or standby , the touchpad doesn't react.
In /proc/bus/input/devices there are - among others - the following sections:

I simply want that the war file from sources is transferred to the web app of my tomcat server through RPM. I try to package it as an RPM, but its always giving me errors in %build stage. When I try to remove %build from stage from the spec file, then it says command missing.

Dec 11, 2010I have a 1TB SATA2 disk in my home Debian server. I'm planning to buy two more drives (1TB too) in order to build a RAID5. Does it make any difference if I use the SATA2 drive with two SATA3 drives? I'm getting the SATA3 with more cache (64MB) at the same price than the old one and I'm not sure if the SATA version or the cache size can impact in the normal behavior of a RAID5

I'm trying to find out how to make my ubuntu to auto switch monitors when I connect my lcd into the vga plug and also switch the desktop bars into the new monitor and also use the laptop screen as a side screen.
In setting I can turn off my laptop screen and i'll see only on the lcd screen, but I need to configure it first, I want it to be automatically and when i plugged out the lcd it's back to normal.
Debian Multimedia :: Xfce4-power-manager Doesn't React To Power Button / Fix It?
Jun 4, 2010I use Squeeze with Xfce. My problem is that recently (after the xfce updates) the xfce power manager doesnt react to the power button - it is set to suspend. I dont have gnome-power manager or anything like it running.
If i reboot the computer, the power button will work but if i suspend and resume, it doesnt work again.
The computer is built on an Asus M3N78-VM mobo (2GB RAM/Athlon3200+ single core).
acpi_listen detects the button press.
Any thoughts?

May 29, 2011I've installed Squeeze 2.6.32-5-amd64 on my laptop (Alienware M17X R3, Intel i7 Sandybridge, ATI Technologies Inc Broadway [ATI Mobility Radeon HD 6800 Series])The screen is 17", with maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080. After a default install of the operating system, the maximum resolution I can select is 1280 x 1024.My research so far has suggested that I need to edit the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and provide xorg with the necessary resolution.
Again, by default, the xorg.conf file is not created. This leads me to believe that xorg is scanning my hardware at startup and providing me with whatever it thinks is appropriate. I tried following these instructions to generate an xorg.conf file. This process created an xorg.conf file under /root/.
When I copy this xorg.conf file to /etc/X11, I get a blank (i.e. black) screen. Deleting this file restores the default resolution 1280 x 1024.This system is dual booting with Windows 7. Under windows I am able to get a 1920 x 1080 resolution, so I know my hardware is up to it.At this stage I have yet to install the drivers for the Radeon graphics card.What are my options regarding configuring xorg to give me a higher screen resolution?

But apparently debian package do not offer this useful tool, well, certainly for sidux exclusively.

Ubuntu Installation :: How To Build A .deb Package From Git
Jan 4, 2011I work at a small company where we use to deploy things by just checking out the repo and copying stuff to production servers. This has to come to an end, enter .deb packages!
So I'm wondering what's the best procedure to do that. I already know how to create .deb packages, most of our stuff is Python and we're going to use python-support and cdbs. But how to maximally automate this?
We have a Git repo and ideally the whole thing should work like this:
* a tag is created in the Git repo (the version can be provided manually)
* some file like 'version.py' is created so that setup.py and the packaged software can refer to it and know the tag
* changelog is created from the Git commit logs
* the package is built (that's the part I've worked out - python-support and cdbs are involved here)
* optionally, the package is uploaded somewhere
There's a .deb package named 'git-buildpackage', is it suitable for this task? So far I can tell that it has one drawback - it looks for the 'debian/' directory in the root of the repository, which is not the case - our repo consists of several subdirectories, each contains a subproject that will be packaged independently.
