Debian :: An Apt-get Install Lottanzb Would Change All Libraries, Config Files Etcetera?

May 14, 2010

not trolling for a flame war but I simply added the testing repository earlier and did an apt install of just lottanzb and it ended up taking ages and installed lots of new files and removed things like Epiphany etcetera, and that one command had me having to reinstall as it messed everything up so it wouldn`t work at all even the shell was messing up.I have never had Windows break totally from an install, but first try with Linux and it did so could someone explain why an apt-get install lottanzb would change all my libraries, config files etcetera with the testing version over Lenny stable?

Ubuntu Servers :: Config - Change / Add From The Default OpenSSH Config Files To Get Tunnelling To Work?

Jul 10, 2011

I'm running Ubuntu Server 11.04 with OpenSSH, trying to create an ssh tunnel (for web traffic) to it from my (also Ubuntu) laptop. This is the command I'm using to create the tunnel:

Code: ssh -ND localhost:8080 george@192.168.1.20 I had it all working on a virtual machine.. which was deleted What settings/lines do I need to change/add from the default OpenSSH config files to get tunnelling to work? I've Googled and AllowTcpForwarding is set to yes, as is X11Forwarding.. but it still doesn't work. Chrome can connect to the server, but says the connection was closed before any data was sent.

Debian Configuration :: Installing LottaNZB Screw System?

May 14, 2010

Okay so a newb question but I typed the simple command sudo apt-get install lottanzb to install lottanzb after adding the testing repositories (currently using Lenny stable) and got a huge shed load of things updated including AWN from the testing source as a result (pages of them flashed by) and it removed some things like Epiphany browser.

Got a load of errors at one point during this including
/var/lib/dpkg/info/libc6.postinst: line 165: [: missing `]'
Usage: /etc/init.d/cron {start|stop|restart|reload|force-reload}.
/var/lib/dpkg/info/libc6.postinst: line 165: [: missing `]'
Status of Common Unix Printing System: cupsd is running.
/var/lib/dpkg/info/libc6.postinst: line 165: [: missing `]'
checking separate queue runner daemon...done (not running).

[Code]...

Am I being dumb here or does that mean I`m now basically using Debian testing as a result and if so how can I undo it yet keep LottaNZB? With the errors am concerned in case I reboot and the system goes from stable to unstable. I chose Debian for the stability so don`t want the testing versions, and have no idea why a simple install command updated so much stuff. EDIT: It bigtime messed it up, when I logged out and logged back in system was unusable and I had to reinstall as tried apt remove but it didn`t undo it. Quite surprised that Linux breaks easier than Windows though

Debian Multimedia :: Can't Find Any Answers - External Disk And Lottanzb

May 22, 2011

I have 2 questions of which i can't find any answers to.

1) every time when i download something using lottanzb, lottanzb doesn't unpack the files automatically. It happens to every download. [URL]..0dselectie001p shows the full folder where files are downloaded in.[URL]..shows what happens to the par2 files.I don't know what is going on and why lottanzb is doing all this.

2)I have a external disk divided in 3 partitions. 1 partition is a partition for my email program (Icedove) whit all the necessary files. Since a few days i noticed that i first have to access the external disk and/or partitions before it is "active". I.e.: when my pc is started up and i start Icedove, i don't see my mail and all the (sub)folders i created (all the mail is on a partition on the external drive). But when i first access the partition containing all the mails and then start Icedove, then i see all my mails and (sub)folders.

Debian :: Install 32bit Libraries On Amd64?

Sep 3, 2010

I'm trying to use nspluginwrapper to run 32bit Flash in Iceweasel. I need some 32bit libraries that aren't included in ia32-libs, like libnss3.so and libssl3.so. However I have no idea how to get them. I've tried aptitude install ia32-libs-libnss3 like it says on the wiki but it just tells me that it can't find ia32-libs-libnss3. I've also tried aptitude install libnss3.so but it gives me the same error. I'm running amd64 Lenny 5.0.5. What should I do?

Debian Configuration :: How To Import VPN Config Files With No File Extension

Feb 10, 2016

I've downloaded configuration files for my VPN, Kovurt, and they don't have a .ovpn file extension. Further, when I tried to enter the information manually (using this guide), I saw that the files only include the <ca> tags, and no <cert>, <key> or <tls-auth> tags.

Here is the content of one of the config files, simply named 'Tokyo' with no extension. (adding .ovpn didn't work either):

Code: Select allclient
dev tun
proto udp
remote 50.31.255.86 443
resolv-retry infinite
nobind

[Code] ....

I have an open ticket with Kovurt asking for the other info, but I know already that they don't have much in the way of documentation or support for Linux.

OpenSUSE Install :: KDM Black Screen - Need To Clear All Config Files

Apr 19, 2011

No more than 15 hours after a breezy installation and setup I somehow managed to stop the desktop manager from displaying. Once you boot into Suse, the loading bar goes across, a white flash, then a blank screen forever. I figured it was KDM once I booted into x11safemode and tried to boot the desktop manager, it recreated the situation.

I've tried un-installing and installing KDM again, however it seems to reuse the same config file. I'm thinking about deleting the config file mentioned, but I'm not sure what will happen when I install the desktop manager, if there's any setting up to get it to work with my setup, or even if that will fix the situation.

Ubuntu :: System Settings / Config Files Copied Over To New Install?

Jul 5, 2010

I'm interested to hear what config/settings files - or whole folders - you've managed to simply copy over from your previous installation and have working in the new. This can be either for specific programs or for parts of the system, but I suppose most of what people would find useful is getting some of their programs back to how they had them. These can be individual files or whole folders, but if there is a settings folder for a program but only one of the files is actually worth copying, just mention the one file and what it does. Also interested in hearing from KDE and Xfce users, for the benefit of those of us who have multiple desktop environments in the same system. (Besides, even those with only Gnome will use some of the great KDE apps like Amarok and K3b).

Here are my contributions:
(~/ denotes your home folder; any subfolders starting with a period [.] are hidden files or folders)
~/.cache/rhythmbox/covers (the folder containing all your album cover art displayed in Rhythmbox)
~/.gnome2/nautilus-scripts (any scripts you added to Nautilus will be in this folder)
~/.lyrics (the folder containing all your song lyrics displayed in Rhythmbox)
~/.local/share/rhythmbox/rhythmdb.xml (Rhythmbox's database file; if you were forced to edit this because of some incorrectly displayed tags, don't forget to copy it over).
~/.gconf/apps/rhythmbox/plugins/ (Rhythmbox's plugins folder; plugins should be accessible when you restart Rythmbox).
~/.bash_aliases (Terminal command aliases you may have created will be in this file).
~/.gconf/apps/nautilus/preferences/%gconf.xml (Nautilus folder preferences file)
~/.mozilla/firefox (Folder for Firefox settings, cache, bookmarks, etc. If there are 2 or more subfolders with names like 2tb4r91t.default just copy over the latest one, and make sure profiles.ini points to it)
~/.thunderbird (Mozilla Thunderbird folder with all accounts, emails, settings, etc)

Ubuntu :: Alter Config Files After Install From Custom Live Cd?

I'm building my own ubuntu variant for low resource systems at the moment. It's based from the ubuntu 10.10 minimal install (12mb iso). It uses openbox as the window manager and SLiM as the login/display manager.

What I would like two know is how to have a few config files that are on the live cd to be altered for the installed system. Specifically, SLiM autologin, but I'll probably find other things to change aswell. Basically a sort of "first boot script".

Debian Hardware :: Unable To Find Suitable Destination To Install 32-bit Compatibility Libraries

I am trying to install some NVIDIA drivers on my machine. I went through the process and got this message:

Code: Select allWARNING: Unable to find a suitable destination to install 32-bit compatibility libraries. Your system may not be set up for 32-bit compatibility. 32-bit compatibility files will not be installed; if you wish to install them, re-run the installation and set a valid directory with the --compat32-libdir option. Code: Select allsudo apt-get install ia32-libs

I really just want to get these NVIDIA drivers up and running. I already installed and updated the headers to just be able to half-way install the drivers (the second monitor works now).

OpenSUSE Install :: All Config Files Need .conf" Messages After Upgrade To 11.2

Nov 29, 2009

I just upgraded an 11.1 install to 11.2. The upgraded system appears fully functional but I get many "all config files need .conf" warning messages during boot. See below. I also did a clean install on another system to compare and the clean install does not exhibit the same behavior so the warnings are evidently related to it being an upgrade. The system's working but I would like to understand why this is happening and clean it up. This system provides some key services to my networks and I have spent a lot of time getting this and the systems it interacts with "just right" under 11.1 and I am not particularly interested in starting over except as a last resort.

Ubuntu :: Eclipse Plugins Don't Work / Doesn't Install A Bunch Of Libraries And Eclipse Cannot Recognize Standard Java Files?

Jan 19, 2010

I have been using Eclipse to program in Java for a long time, and have been using Jigloo for most of my GUI design. Recently I decided to try out the C/C++ plugin. I tried installing it, but it did not work. After many attempts, I finally gave up. However, after uninstalling it I found that Jigloo had stopped working. Any other plugins I try to install now also don't work. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling plugins, and reinstalling eclipse, but nothing I have done fixes it. Although eclipse says that the software has been installed, nothing shows up in the features list or the plugins list.

Another problem: When I install eclipse from the repositories, it doesn't install a bunch of libraries and eclipse cannot recognize standard java files.

Ubuntu Installation :: LottaNZB Random Crashes After Upgrade To 11.04?

Jun 26, 2011

As per the title, really. I've upgraded to 11.04, ran updates, but I can't stop LottaNZB randomly crashing out. It will be running fine one moment, then 'zap' it disappears. I've tried going through the apps running at the same time, and there doesn't appear to be any pattern. In fact, I've left it running with nothing else open and have returned to a computer with no running apps. Sometimes, however, it will run fine for several hours, completing all of it's downloads, although this is pretty rare. LottaNZB's logs appear to wipe after a crash (unless I'm missing something) so I'm none the wiser why it happens. Has anyone got any ideas what to try next? It ran faultlessly on Ubuntu 10.x

When I run the wxsqlite3-2.0.2 configure script, a problem arises due to the fact that wxGTK is expected to be in a specific directory. The wx-config file cannot be found. However, there are copies of these files for each type of build in the folders:

/home/mrj2/wxGTK-2.8.11/GCCBuildDebugGTK2
/home/mrj2/wxGTK-2.8.11/GCCBuildDebugGTK2Unicode

/home/mrj2/wxGTK-2.8.11/GCCBuildReleaseGTK2Unicode
/home/mrj2/wxGTK-2.8.11/GCCBuildReleaseMacUnicode

There is not a problem with my wxGTK installation as I use it in DialogBlocks and it works fine.

Programming :: How To Attach New C Header Files And Libraries

Mar 10, 2010

I have been a predominant Windows user for a long time but shifted to Ubuntu recently. I was just trying out a few basic C functions when i realized that the "conio.h" header file isn't included in the libraries and therefore i was unable to use the "clrscr()" function.

I downloaded a tarball which contained the necessary library and header files including conio.h. Once extracted, i specified the location and included in the program as " #include "path to the header file" ".

I still didn't call the "clrscr()" function, and it compiled successfully. Next i edited the program to call that function and it gave the following error...

How i can add new libraries in the future?

I need it to be ran as a post intall script or to configure the conf files as part of the install. what I configure on every reinstall. apache, proftpd, mysql, php, and wordpress. Since I am still learning I reinstall a lot and standard backups have not been working for me. But I can put the whole install including backup on one cd. Software :: Creating Mex-files With Gcc With External Libraries - Matlab

Mar 2, 2011

I have been browsing trough forums, manuals and people for a few days now wihout success so I thought i give this a go, any help will be very appricieted!

I'm using Matlab 2010a in Ubuntu 10.10. I also have a AVT Marlin F033C firewire camera and want to use the two together. Since most things i will do with the images will be processed in matlab I decided that the best would be if i could do everything in matlab.

The code for capturing a picture is however in c and uses the library dc1394 (usr/lib). Compiling this with gcc works good:
$ gcc grab_gray_image.c -ldc1394

To be able to create a mex-file of it (that matlab can run) I have included "mex.h" in the headers and added the function mexFunction in the very top, this function should do more once it works...:

Choosing "Template Options file for building gcc MEX-files".

When trying to compile i get a few errors but these are easily removed by taking away all the //-comments and all the inline for a few functions (this should do anything for the functionality right?).
After that I am still stuck with this error:

I should probably also note that I needed to rollback to gcc 4.1 since that is the latest one matlab 2010a can handle and now don't get that warning anymore.

General :: Use Always The Latest Versions Of The Libraries And Don't Save The Old Libraries For Compatibility?

May 11, 2011

Why many Linux distros are trying to use always the latest versions of the libraries and don't save the old libraries for compatibility? I mean, I can see libtiff for example, i can found a libtiff.so.5 on my /usr/lib, but doesn't store a libtiff.so.4 or 3 just for binary applications or games. For this example, I need libtiff.so.4 for uplink.

That should happen too on the old version of sims for linux, some ID games or others. What's wrong with storing old libraries? PD: Yay, my first post on 3 years!

Debian Installation :: Change Ramdisk Files To Alter Repository?

Mar 14, 2011

Once I've booted my Etch install disc, are there some parameters in configuration files I can edit in the ramdisk filesystem that will allow me to install Squeeze instead? Or, even, paramters I can edit to point at the archive.debian.org repository to install Etch?

Why:

I've got a Sun Ultra10 with IDE drives (hard disk and cd drive) on which I previously had Etch installed. I recently tried to upgrade it to Squeeze, botched the upgrade, and formatted the drive. I'm now trying to install Squeeze from scratch.

When I use the Squeeze disc (debian-6.0.0-sparc-xfce+lxde-CD-1.iso), it cannot detect my IDE drives. I also have the disc I originally used to install Etch, way back when. It will boot and detect the drives, but cannot install because Etch is no longer in the repositories.

3. "other can read only"

Ubuntu :: Correctly Installing Libraries And (non-kernel) Header Files?

Jun 9, 2010

Not I recently installed a package (Vision Egg) that requires the Open GL libraries and headers, specifically, gl.lib and gl.h. I used Synaptic to install nvidia-current and nvidia-current-dev and it now looks as if the required libraries (under different names) are installed in /usr/lib/nvidia-current and as if the required headers are in /usr/include/nvidia-current. I am a bit confused because I also have /usr/lib/nvidia and /usr/lib/nvidia-173.

The installation of Vision Egg fails with "cannot find GL/gl.h" and "/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lGL"There is a related post a few years ago under thread 200901 but it relates only to a single file problem that is fixed manually. I'd rather avoid that because it looks like it is easily breakable. Is there a standard way --- that is, a method that does not require error-prone manually changing or linking a multitude of file names --- of ensuring that programs which require GL/gl.h actually find the correct nvidia header file and also that the link loader finds the GL libraries.

Software :: Dependent Libraries And Header Files In Non System Folder?

Apr 5, 2011

I've a source code of a program and I know that to compile and install that program I've to do:
./configure --prefix=/opt/test
make
make install

Now I want the program to look for dependent libraries and header files first in a non system folder. Now how can i instruct "configure" and "make" script to look for dependencies first in a different folder without editing configure and Makefile. And after these folders are searched for dependencies by the script it can look in system folder. Is there any environment variable that i can supply to "configure" and "make"? Will that work without any conflict? what are these environment variables? And also if I use these environment variables do I need to edit the source code files?

I mean do I need to change these lines
Code:
#include <test1.h> ...
to
Code:
#include "test1.h" ...

If yes then is there any other way to compile them without modifying the source code?
