Since two week the knetworkmanager needs 3 minutes after login to start and connect. On an other computer (x86) it works fine. What could be the reason for this? I use opensuse 11.3 x64 and yes i need the network manager. Ifup isn't practicable for me.I have read in some thread to start the networkmanager at boot time and as root, but i don't think this is necessary.

The only way to solve the problem is to reconnect to my WLAN. I use a TP Link WR841N wireless router and a Toshiba satellite pro. The same setup is OK with windows and ubuntu 11.04 alpha3.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm using mencoder to capture audio from a Encore ENLTV-FM3 video capture device. I have recently noticed that, since one week ago, when the machine was forcibly restarted due to a power outage, all recordings are slightly pitched, they play back slower than they should.
I narrowed down the problem to the following command line:

Somehow, mencode managed to gather precisely 10 minutes worth of raw audio in 9m 55s. That's not physically possible, unless the capture device's A/D converters are "overclocked". I can't think of any other explanation besides hardware failure. Can that be? Could it be that something got burnt during the power outage and now the capture device's internal clock went nuts?
Since the machine's restart, I've also noticed dmesg is flooded with entries like this:
CE: hpet increased min_delta_ns to XXX nsec
Which seem to indicate that the computer's high precision event timer is somehow out of sync. Does this have to do with the audio issue? Can it be that the audio converter's sample rate is linked to the HPET? I'm totally lost here. Has anyone bumped into something similar?
I have a fresh install of SuSE 11.2. I have installed Communigate Pro (Email server) and Webmin. From my workstation (on the same LAN), I can access the web interfaces for both CGP and Webmin right after the server boots up. But after about 10 minutes or so, I can no longer access either web interface. The server itself still functions normally. I can get on the internet with the server, and I can control Webmin via localhost:10000.
The only thing that allows me to connect to it from my workstation again is to either restart the server, or go into "Network > Linux Firewall" and click "Apply Configuration". What's going on that makes my remote access stop working?

View 9 Replies View Relatedi just installed open suse 11.3 after using linux mint 7(based on ubuntu 9.04).i am currently using two internet connections at home, the first is a vodafone mobile modem, which is workind excellent, and the other is a LAN network, that on windows uses a *.exe program to run. i managed to make all the IP, NETMASK, DNS settings and the internet connected, but without the .exe program it just disconnects after 10 minutes.this is the same thing that happens with the connections on windows if i start the computer and not run the "net.exe" program, but if that program is running the internet connections works just fine. i tried using wine to run net.exe, but it just gives an error message.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm using the xfce4 desktop and I removed the default screensaver. The screen goes dim after 10 minutes and I was wanting to know if there is a config file where I can adjust the time.
Searching synaptic for "screensaver" shows xdg-utils installed which has xdg-sreensaver but I'm not sure if that is really the program that is dimming the screen. Anyway, I couldn't find a way to change the amount of time that it takes to do so.

I'm having an issue with my display. Every few minutes or so it dims and a 4 note chord is played.
I have isolated it to: "new-host-5org.kde.powerdevil.backlighthelperQDBusConnection: system D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave".
And it most certainly is misbehaving. I'm running Jessie 8.2 with the KDE desktop on a HP Elitebook 8730w with NVIDIA Quadro G94GLM graphics.
I've an Blade 1500, sparc64 IIIi with 2 hard disks and 2go of RAM. The computer run with debian 7.7.0 and BSD (opensxce) for each hard disks.
1/ When it's run under BSD there are no problems, the uptime are on many hours.
2/ when it's run under debian with XFCE x-window, the uptime is 4 hours 30 minutes and computer reboot automatically !
Into the control panel i've deactivate the hibernation, screensaver and power management ! I want to find the files for manage the time down. I think that the problem is in XFCE window manager.
After mapping iscsi storage from my netapp and scanning for new devices I run multipath -v2 to create the multipath device handle under /dev/mapping/. This normally takes about 2 seconds or less on every other linux distribution I use. On Stretch it takes a little over 3 minutes. I have tried several different versions of multipath.conf but the result is always the same.

Whenever I try to play AC3 audio, after a few minutes, the audio dies and never recovers. This doesn't occur with mp3's / etc, although once the audio dies because of AC3, it's gone for good. So this is probably related to surround sound(?).
After I lose audio, speaker-test produces

K-Mixer won't even open afterwards. I flipped from GNOME to KDE because of this problem (PulseAudio freezed the system entirely).

I am using Debian sid 4.1.3-1 and when i shutdown the system it takes 3 - 5 minutes before actually shutdown, there is only a black screen until the hdd led start flashing and after that the system finally shutdown. The weird part is that sometimes it happen in less than 30 seconds , how can i figure out where the problem is ?

The Linux kernel has a mode wherein it copies the System Time to the Hardware Clock every 11 minutes. This is a good mode to use when you are using something sophisticated like ntp to keep your System Time synchronized. (ntp is a way to keep your System Time synchronized either to a time server somewhere on the network or to a radio clock hooked up to your system. See RFC 1305).
This mode (we'll call it "11 minute mode") is off until something turns it on. The ntp daemon xntpd is one thing that turns it on. You can turn it off by running anything, including hwclock --hctosys, that sets the System Time the old fashioned way. To see if it is on or off, use the command adjtimex --print and look at the value of "status". If the "64" bit of this number (expressed in binary) equal to 0, 11 minute mode is on. i am working with an old system that uses a BIOS meant for embedded systems. According to my coworkers this thing boot some version of debian about two years ago. currently I have used there old image and a new one I made of the latest Debian stable build. both images fail to get passed grub.
to be clear the BIOS simply replies "loading grub" takes ten minutes and then crashes.
has anyone ever had trouble with grub crashing systems? this problem seems odd since is did boot with this two years ago and i still have that image.
Total Newb here, sorry. I am pseudo-IT at work and have set up a desktop with Debian 5 (accidentally overwrote Windows in the process, but there you go). We are set up with network printers here (all Windows), and I was wondering how to go about being able to print to one of the network printers from my Linux desktop. Can I even connect to the Windows network with this desktop (it is hooked up)? Understand, I do NOT want to screw up anything on the network - they won't let me play anymore if I do. If I download the Linux driver, what do I do next?

The icon has this small "x" and when mouseover it says "No network conncection". Moreover when left clicking it, it says
"Wired Network Device not managed"
While I was looking for the solution a came across this post by an Ubuntu developer who says:network-manager-applet displays the connectivity state of network-manager's managed interfaces not every interface. So the title "network manager says disconnected but is connected and working" is actually misleading. The interface is connected and working but not from network-manager's point of view since it is not managing the interface. Additionally, in Lucid now network-manager applet displays nothing now for non-managed interfaces so is less misleading. You can check to see whether or not an interface is managed by network-manager by using the command line too nm-tool. You'll see "State: unmanaged" for unmanaged interfaces.

I have installed WICD on Debian . I can now access a new a Network Manager screen, which did not exist before, but it does not display/detect any wireless networks. It is like dead. Before installing WICD I did at least have a wireless WPE encrypted network, which was detected, although it often disconnected for no known reasons. Now even that Network has gone and I can't go on line. Can anybody help here? How can I configure the WICDNetwork Manager to detect an existing network or create a new one? In the latter case, would I have to reconfigure the Router settings to setup/connect to a network in Debian? May be I have to do this, because Tor/Vidalia changes my IP address and so my Network Adapter ( Linksys) can no longer connect to the router.
Also, when trying to follow troubleshooting leads in this connection, the Terminal screen on Debian ( CMD) would often return a PERMISSIONS DENIED message.

In Googling around it appears that the Network Manager used to have a nice simple (obvious, logical, straightforward, intuitive, easy-to-use... ... can you tell I'm a bit surprised that there's not a simple button to do this, it's pretty common functionality ) option in the IPv4 tab called "Shared to other computers" allowing you to share your network connection with any computers connected to yours... kind of like this:

Professor Google seems to indicate that this may have existed in Debian at one point but, I don't see this option anymore. How do I get it back (or is there another gui way to do this without editing the /etc/network/interfaces file... if there's no other way to do this... that's fine but I'd prefer an easy method of enabling and disabling sharing)?
What I'm trying to do... I have a Beaglebone Black connected via IP over USB. When I'm ssh'ed into the BeagleBone, I want to be able to use aptitude install to grab new packages etc... and that kind of requires access to the outside world. Everything I've found so far seems to to require a modification to the interfaces file but since (according to the interfaces man page) the preferred method is to use the network manager if possible... I'm trying to avoid that.
* It should be noted that I'm running sid with the experimental 4.3 kernel so... maybe in doing so I've shot myself in the foot?
I'm planning to use Debian as the OS for a firewall machine, which will sit between my internet connection and the rest of my computers. Now my network is all wired, no wireless whatsoever. I'm using the onboard the motherboards cat5 socket which seems to be using the VIA rhine driver and I'm also using a 3com 100MBps card.
I can list the machine spec if you want but it's nothing special, an old Athlon 64 rig with 1gb ram and an OEM motherboard, it all seems to work ok apart from the internet doesn't' seem to work. Lenny seems to detect both cards ok and I even used the net install CD and it managed to download everything using the 3com card.
The strange thing is when I'm in Lenny, I can't seem to connect. I can ping google, but when I try and view a webpage, the browser just sits there with a while screen... Could it be that using 2 network cards is confusing Debian? Right now I've only got the modem hooked up the the 3com card, and nothing connected to the onboard network card.
I just installed the Debian testing release(with LXDE) from this week. Everything works great except the network card. I know the network card works because Windows and the Parted Magic Live cd recognize it. Also "lspci" seems to list the card, but when I fire "ifconfig -a" it is not listed there.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI have a new install of Debian Squeeze from debian-6.0.0-amd64-kde-CD-1.iso but I'm experiencing problems with the wireless internet applet in the taskbar.When the computer boots, it doesn't connect automatically eventhough I have it set as such. I have to fiddle with it until I get the request from KDE Wallet Manager to insert the password to complete the connection. I didn't have this behavior in Kubuntu.
