View 5 RepliesFor long-term migration from courier to dovecot I would like to install courier-pop and dovecot-pop3d simultaneously. Aptitude offers me to install one, by removing the other, only. Can this be done without creating problems for the package manager and future upgrades? And why if not?

Does anyone know if there are only personal preferences between the two IMAP servers or does one of a slight advantage over the other? I've used Dovecot only in the past but my package manager loads tons of MySQL libraries with Dovecot which is a problem since that's not authorized on my server right now. I can either install it from source or try another application like Courier.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI had a pretty much standard installation according to some tutorial (I don't remember, which one) for courier, including ssl. After upgrading from Wheezy (7) to Jessie (8) everything continued working fine, excep ssl connections to pop or imap.
In the log I get this error message while connecting to imapd-ssl:
Code: Select allFeb 26 20:16:22 mx imapd-ssl: couriertls: connect: error:1408A0C1:SSL routines:SSL3_GET_CLIENT_HELLO:no shared cipher
First I thought there got some chiphers removed from default configuration. But even when I try to allow all protocols and all ciphers:
Code: Select allTLS_PROTOCOL="SSL23"
TLS_CIPHER_LIST="ALL"
And then test via s_client:
Code: Select all# openssl s_client -connect 127.0.0.1:993 -cipher ALL
CONNECTED(00000003)

TLS over STARTTLS is also not working and does not invoke a log-entry. So I want to solve the ssl-problem first. I guess the STARTTLS-problem is automatically solved then.
My update procedure was:
Editing /etc/apt/sources.listapt-get updateapt-get upgradeapt-get dist-upgradeKeep all configuration files regarding courier.
I have a pdf file (nasm documentation) that used to be displayed perfectly with xpdf, but now all code example lines remain blank. On the terminal I get repeated lines such as:
Quote:
Error: Couldn't create a font for 'Courier Bold'
Error: Couldn't create a font for 'Courier'
I tried to figure out the problem... the same problem occurs with both evince and okular. However it does not occur when opening the same file under root (tested with xpdf), so it seems to be some permission problem. I tried searching on the error message but couldn't find a working solution.
I installed the dovecot with aptitude in the debian squeeze, and want to use dovecot as imap and pop3 server with exim4 for my mail server, i configured the dovecot and exim4, but when want to start the dovecot get this error:

i have some problems to start my dovecot server on Debian 6.0.1 I tried to install it from webmin using "un-used modules" but it was allways the same error: "E: Unable to locate package dovecot-pop3d". When I tried to install it from console using the commands: apt-get install dovecot-imapd dovecot-pop3d dovecot-common - and there are no problems with dovecot-imapd and dovecot-common, but still the same error with dovecot-pop3d: "E: Unable to locate package dovecot-pop3d". After command: service dovecot status: could not access PID file for dovecot ..After try to start dovecot with comand "dovecot": Error: mail_executable: Can't use /usr/lib/dovecot/pop3: No such file or directory Fatal: Invalid configuration in /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf It's interesting because on version 5.0 there were no problems to install and run dovecot server just pressing the button from webmin..
I've read a few similar threads in this forum about dovecot errors but still can't to fix it.
I'm using mbox storing for dovecot 1.0.15 messages. The mailbox is in a different partition (/var/mail).The MTA is postfix 2.5.5. SO is Debian 5. How can I find email accounts that haven't be accessed within a 30 days period in order to delete them?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am trying to decide whether or not to use LUKS with LVM install for NAS Box, mysql, postfix, ddns, bind, NFS, sshd, Appletalk, maybe samba. I have decided to give LVMs a try but not sure how LUKS will affect access to services. LAN includes Standalone headless web server(not on LVM, no LUKS). Aren't permissions, iptables and firewalls sufficient? Not sure how services are supose to interract if everything is encrypted especially root?
So far what I have read recommends vgOS /, swap, /var, /tmp encription and vgdata /home encryption but no one tells how they did it. The 2 servers I'm working on only have small /home for admin stuff and considering making NAS headless, except i read somewhere that some gui would make it easier to manage mysql which brings me to the question if I don't install X on NAS can I ssh in with my desktop using its gui? I am experimenting with minimal server tagfiles. LUKS and LVMs are new to me. Decided to use LVMs to seperate OS from data, different data types and resizing flexibility. I have read some material on LUKS just wonder if its more complicated than my needs require. Certainly i don't want to leave myself open to someone just distroying my setup for kicks.
I am trying to format an external hard drive and wanted to know the pros and cons of various different formats offered in Linux. I hear that ext4 is better (most stable) than anything else (better than ext3 or ext2) for Ubuntu. I wanted to know where I can obtain more info on these various formats. I want a format that would be (1) as stable as it can get in formating a hard drive, and (2) readable and writable in both Windows and other versions of Linux (say Mandriva).
View 9 Replies View RelatedHaving both a /usr and /usr/local partition seems logical: A seperate partition for /usr would preserve the /root partition since it changes in size, while reducing the initial install size of /root. Having a /usr/local partition would then preserve custom software (ie. scribus, bender etc.)not distro related, scripts, and settings.
Would having /usr and /usr/local create any problems locating files? I understand that /usr/local has a relative function depending on whether it is being used as a machine in a network context or whether it is being used as a desktop and /usr/local refers to user custom files. I am setting up slackware64 multilib and think I want to preserve both distro and user files to expedite do overs keep trouble shooting clean.
I'm thinking about the near future with Unity and GNOME Shell. I've tried both a little and wondered what I'm missing; they seem pretty much the same on the outside! I'm assuming it's similar to GNOME and XFCE; they look quite similar, with XFCE aiming to be lighter-weight, but what's the difference between these two new 3D environments? Why did Ubuntu fork the GNOME environment when it barely differs from what GNOME are providing?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm mentoring my local high school's IT club as they prepare to participate in a cyberdefense competition (see IT Olympics). Generally we are given four boxes and need to set up a network that provides certain services (which services change from year to year, but usually include a web server, email server, FTP server, and an application server of some sort) and support client PCs that connect from the WAN. The red team then tries to break into our network to steal "flags" from our servers and to set their own "flags" on our servers.
Generally we set up the firewall with two network interface cards (one to the WAN and one to our LAN), and connect the LAN NIC to a router, which then connects to the other three boxes. But we do have the option of installing additional NICs in the firewall and configuring it as a router. I can't shake the feeling that there is a security advantage to such a configuration, but I can't say what that advantage is. Perhaps something with configuring ipTables on the internal boxes to accept connections only from the firewall's NIC, and then only for the services we want that box to support (to prevent an intruder from connecting directly from one box to another)?
What are the pros and cons of using wubi instead of dual booting?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI understand it is not generally a good idea to mix 13 and 13-current packages but I am installing OpenProj which requires JDK and the installed JRE (6-18) is up-level from 13's JRE (6-16) and back-level from the 13-current JDK (6-19). Presumably JRE and JDK should be at the same level. Would it be better to take both JRE and JDK to 13-current (6-19) or to take both to 13 (6-16)?
View 3 Replies View RelatedAt work / home / laptops I have about 5 slackware machines. I have always tended to install new packages on each machine from source, generally using slackbuilds when available. I thought I would try 'libreoffice' and reading alien-bobs blog I deduced that a full from source install might be pretty difficult, so I followed his advice and just took the package (.txz file) and used installpkg. To my slight surprise this installed and ran perfectly.
Now I'm wondering if someone would clarify under what circumstances you can just take the slackware package from one machine to another and install. More generally I guess what are the main advantages of building from source. Is it mainly about availability of all the required dependencies?
I am having vitural hosting around three websites using Centos. I need to type in the full domain name include www to enter the 2 of the vitural hosting sites. Pros and Cons of vitural hosting vs separate machine? I got a questions about static IP. Assume I having a linksys router with port forwarding function, I have three seperate machines with different private address connect to the same linksys router. Can I entry all private address forward to port 80? Does it work? If I insist to host website on three machines, does that mean I need 3 static IP and 3 linksys router? I got two conventional web services only showing information but one got mysql db for user to input data, thats why I asking if it is good idea to seperate web page on different machines.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a web server running and wish to get a mail server running on the same machine. I have a registered domain name. I have postfix and dovecot installed. I can send emails from the server to my normal address on a different domain but cannot receive mail. I can send and receive mail locally with no problems. I just don't know where to look for the problems. If you need any more info ( config files/doamin names etc let me know)

View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to use Courier New font in my gvim editor. I am using Slackware 13.In my present .gvimrc i have:-
set gfn=Bitstream Vera Sans Mono 13
But now i wish to change the font to Courier New. From what i have read this is a Microsoft font, so is there a way that i could get it into Slackware 13?
I found out that an installation of Redhat already has that font and when i do set gfn=Courier New 13 in my .gvimrc in Redhat, the fonts are available(which is not so in Slackware 13)
I have installed qmail on my 10.04 server (Because I prefer qmail and dont want to use postfix) and I would like to just install courier IMAP/POP server without the Postfix (Or other mail servers).
Is there an apt-get install switch that will install just what I want to install without deps; or at least a way to block unwanted deps from being installed.
how to install Courier IMAP server and they all say the same thing, but they keep giving me problems.URL... is a link to the page I'm working on.I created the user, edited sudoers manually since I can't effectivly use visudo in the terminal since I don't know how to save. I also made sure that I restarted after I edited it in order to make sure it took effect. I used su compileuser and just logging in as compileuser and opening a terminal. After I made the user and edited that file, I created the directory mentioned and ran the command to create .rpmmacros. After that I got to work on wgetting the files and installing them and what not. The first one compiled and installed and so did the last one. The command "rpmbuild -ta courier-imap4.6.0.tar bz2" would not go though properly. This one I need to run as a non-root user and I've tried using every way possible to be as distant from root as possible, but it still gives me this at the end.

I was able to send and receive after the "basic" setup. I added amavis-new and I am pretty sure that it stopped working then. (late nights, lots of changes/tries not 100% sure any more) Went back to basics trying to send a test email from telnet (on the server).
Code:
mail:~# telnet mail.my-server.com 25
Trying 216.240.35.89...
Connected to mail.my-server.com.

Using the following software:
Ubuntu Server 8.04
SquirrelMail 1.4.13
Postfix 2.5.1
Courier 0.59.0 (Courier-IMAP 4.3.1)
Apache2 2.2.8
I've installed a mail server per the instructions at [url].
Neither POP nor IMAP test successfully with the user that I just added after following the setup instructions.
This doesn't make any sense. I added the user to the mysql database:
Code:
And after I did that, I ran the postfix reload command. If I try to log in as firstuser@mydomain.com, which is the user I created during the setup and configuration process, it works fine.
I checked the virtual mail account's home folder, and under the mydomain.com folder, I only see a folder for firstuser. I'd create one for testuser manually, but I don't know if that'll work since it seems to contain a particular folder structure of its own.
Is there some other command that I have to run? I don't recall having to do anything additional when setting up firstuser.
I have had a mailserver die when it still had email that the users hadn't downloaded. I have build a new server an tried to copy the mail across but this caused a issue where users were unable to download any new email.
Is it possible to make the old undelivered email available for download?
old server name lx0.hostname.com (dead) I can get to the data but not start the server. new server name lx1.hostname.com
Both systems were running qmail with courier.
i followed this tutorial to the "T", [URL]. I am not able to login to the mailboxes with squirrelmail, it says "connection dropped by imap server" I used the whole address as a login just like it said to do. I can sucessfully authenticate with outlook express but it throws an error that say's [URL], no such file or directory. i can telnet into it remotely but when i type ehlo [URL] it just keeps showing all the 250 lines and wont let me generate a message.
from what i saw on the comments on the tutorial and googling there are many other people with this problem, however i found no solutions. This is fresh work and i have not touched any config files since finishing the tutorial
