Software :: Create A Custom Bootup Splash Screen?
Feb 26, 2009Is it possible to create a custom bootup splash screen, either a bitmap graphics file or just a simple text file. I'm not talking about the BIOS splash screen nor the boot loader input splash screen, but rather somewhere in between, i.e. when the HDD is detected as the boot drive, a splash screen is shown. I'm trying to make sort of a "rescue disk" that simply boots up to a shell, and I am wondering if I can display a custom message once the PC is booting up from this disk.

Feb 25, 2011I've a problem, infact i can't resize images from shell (i use mogrify -resize 800x600 image.jpg or convert -size 800x600 image.jpg image.jpg) and it usually work for me.2 days ago i've bought a KOALA NANO PCit is a small 13x13 centimeters pc that work with a restricted(i don't know how) Debian lenny distro and its hardware is very thiny..So i tryied to resize some images from term but nothing to do. I think it's because of ram(128mb) or (processor 300mhz) or graphic memory.

Dec 26, 2010I have 2 images stored temporarily in home folder totaling 21 gigs. I recieved warning stating that home disrectory is full.
I used gparted and resized extended partition and home partition. When I look at disk usage it still says that I'm maxed out in /home/edward. How do I increase my share as I have plenty of space. Or, can I create a place for storing images? Also the images were created and placed there using clonezilla.

Jan 3, 2010I have a very nice digital photo camera and I love to take my pictures at the highest quality setting available. My Canon is a 12 mega pixel camera so the photos get very large. After I shoot a weekend of 200+ pictures, the last thing I want to do is resize them so I can share them on Facebook. Does anyone know of a Linux program that will allow me to re-size multiple images rather than using Gimp to do each individual photo?

Nov 23, 2010Before migrating to Fedora/linux, during my window days, one of my programme of choice was MS word. regardless of all it's bugs, it did all i needed it to do (eventually). Now in Fedora I have Open Office. As far as word processing it's fine. But when it comes to inserting Images I hit a brick wall.
when it cam to making bingo cards, I could choose multiple images and resize them with one click, move them all together and crop them on the fly. Open Office doesn't do that. My question is: What other option are there in the fedora world that could help me.

Sep 2, 2010As mentioned here I am planning on installing with encryption. This involves using LVM in the partition scheme.
I am following this guide here which uses Mandriva to do the installation. [url]
However, I notice that GParted doesn't seem to have any support for LVM, which is going to be a pain in the rear if I subsequently try to add Ubuntu to the Mandriva boot setup.
The problem I have with DiskDrake (Mandrivas partition editor) is that it only seems to be able to put partitions at the beginning of the drive and it doesn't seem to be able to move partitions. e.g. if I want to create a new partition at the end for swap and leave some unallocated space in the middle for my future Ubuntu installation I am stuck. GParted allows me to create at the end or effectively move it by resizing the beginning and end of the partition.
DiskDrake allows me to create and edit LVM partitions.
Is there perhaps another partition editor that does both? Or maybe a development version of one that does it? Or some option I am missing?

I tried to use dd to record the disk, but it crashes with an "i/o error", which is strange because I can read the files on the cd without any problem.Luckily, I found all of the files from the disk already backed up on my hard drive. The problem is, when I create an iso image using mkisofs it abbreviates all of the filenames... which makes the game not... run. So how do I create an iso image with long filenames?

Apr 19, 2010I am in the process of creating a RHEL5.4 custom iso image with minimal functionality. Have gone through a lot of articles over the net and it seems that there are no proper documentation of this process as most of the utilities earlier are not supported.
Following steps were performed :
1. Mount the RHEL5.4 DVD ISO and copied all contents including .discinfo[very important] to a temporary folder [/iso/MODIFIED_ISO/].
2. Edited comps-rhel5-server-core.xml [earlier comps.xml] under /iso/MODIFIED_ISO/Server/repodata under the root directory to only include necessary packages.
3. Removed the unnecessary rpm's from Server directory
4. Created metadata of modified packages, goto root directory of copied folder [in my case /iso/MODIFIED_ISO] and execute :

After performing the above steps, I tested the iso on a virtual box, but checking the error console seems that there are some errors related to dependencies.
Have written a short script to check for the dependencies for the remaining rpm's, executing "rpm -qpR <RPMNAME>" for all rpm's on an already installed box. This would list all dependency packages.

Dec 6, 2010I have a very big image directory: One image per minute, whole a year, captured from a webcam. Now I want to make a video (15 or 24FPS) with all the webcam captures, to see how it changed during this period. I've tried automotion, but it makes a very low quality video, besides it blocks with lots of images. I've also tried dvd-slideshow, but it's not possible to make a more-than-1FPS video.
I also need to change the date in each webcam's images, because they are wrong, so it needed to overlay a little layout with the right date for each image, is that possible to manage within some application? Preferibly shell applications which supports lots of Gb of information (anyway I always could make little videos and then glue them)

Jul 4, 2011I'm working to setup an small PC as a kiosk, I was able to create an USB pen drive with ubuntu 10.10 with a persistent area and I made all the changes I need, everything works but if the PC loss power in most of the cases the file system is corrupted. Now I'm trying to generate a non persistent USB drive, but I'm having some problems. I was able to install remastersys and create an ISO image of my system (dist) but when I tried to create the USB drive using different Programs, in all cases I get the boot menu but it never complete the login, it just try to keep booting. The only messages I saw when I create the iso image is a bunch on chown operation fail from remastsys, I'm not sure if it is part of the problem. how to create an USB read only from a persistent one ?
