Is it possible to set the $PATH in fbrun, I'm trying to run a programme in $HOME/.local/bin/ (i.e. the location from disultils) using fbrun, but it can't find it. $HOME/.local/bin/ is in my .bashrc, so I can run it from an xterm, but I'd like to be able to launch it from fbrun.

Java applet not loading image with relative path(e.g. images/1.jpg) but loads image with absolute path(i.e. from /root/user/images/1.jpg) . This is a problem when i want to host the applet on web server

Now all I can input is the relative path. So if I want to go one level above my input will be ../mypath.
If I know the depth of the path used internally, I can use .. as many times to go to the root directory and then give the absolute path. But suppose I do not know the depth of the directory, can I construct a relative path string such that it considers it as a relative path. One way could be to have enough .. in the path string so that I can force an absolute path for some maximum depth of path.
Is there some path string syntax that I am not aware of but can achieve this?
Experimenting with shell variables, accidentally deleted the path variable how could I return to the original path value. What kinds of problems will I have if I don't have a path variable.

I try to run a file in a directory different that i am on now, and it tries to run it in my current dir, what can be the problem example: I try to run: /usr/bin/php /var/www/mydir/file.php and i get this error: The file /var/log/var/www/mydir/data/file.txt is not exists this file.txt is called from the script i try to run. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to change my PATH environment variable to no avail. I am using Jessie i386 with MATE. Using my .bashrc file works but not well because with subshells the modifications get repeated. I want the change to occur on login.
I tried modifying ~/.profile ~/.bash_profile /etc/profile and /etc/environment and one or two others but in no case did my change get picked up even after logging out and in again and even after rebooting. I searched the Internet and found each of the above places to make the change but they don't seem to work with Jessie.
Where do I make the necessary change?

I am running Debian Squeeze, 64-bit.I would like to try my hand at bash scripting. So at the author's suggestion (first chapter of Chris F. A. Johnson, Pro Bash Scripting from apress) I created a /bin directory in my home directory. So now I would like to modify my PATH statement so that when I run a script from my bin directory my shell will find it.I did that. He then says that I should add this to ".bash_profile, .bashrc, or .profile depending on how bash is invoked." The find command is unable to locate any of these files. So I searched the forum, found the link above and tried to follow that. No luck so I assume that how Debian handles PATH statements has changed since that post?
I also have checked the wiki and worked Google as hard as I know how to do.Very simply where the heck is my PATH statement and how do I modify it?

I would like to add /sbin to all future user's I create with 'useradd' and including my already existing user account above. Can someone tell me the correct way in Debian to change my current user environment to have /sbin in their path as well as how to add this for all future users? I looked at /etc/profiile and there are two lines that look relivant:

I'm looking to allow sudo for openvpn for a user.
I cannot find the openvpn program path though, i try a 'which openvpn' command and it returns nothing! :S
What is the path? or how to allow a normal user account to run openvpn with sudo?

Working directories for openvpn on debian 8 are:
/etc/openvpn
/usr/sbin/openvpn
To add sudo capability to a guest account, run this with your admin account:

then add the line, with your guest username substituted:

tada! guest account now runs only openvpn.

Trying to get updatetool in glassfish usable for any user and during any session. I was able to boot from my USB to begin Debian installation screen which after loading kernel gave ncurses based screen asking me to give the location of ISO I formatted the USB to two partitions
/dev/sdb1 (bootable) 1GB
and /dev/sdb2 6GB
after rebooting the debian installation process does begin. But I do not want to use the 20MB business card ISO Instead I have the 4.2 GB ISO on other partition on USB how can I make it take read that image so that installation begins from the 4.2GB ISO on other partition. Do I need to edit in syslinux.cfg some thing or how can I bring the grub command prompt so that I give it the path to kernel and initrd or syslinux can not take ISO from other partition.
How do you set up a command just to copy a file's full path name (%F) onto the clipboard?(I can't seem to get this without copying the contents of the file.)
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just tried installing another version of libc6 (2.10.2-6) with kpackage. It didn't work so I had a broken package on my system. I then wanted to fix it with synaptic package manager which then told me in order to remove it, I had to pretty much uninstall all of linux. I then tried installing the older version of libc6 (the one I'm supposed to have: 2.7-18lenny2). That gave me the error code

When I add some path in .bashrc by commenting out old path and adding new one like this:
#EXPORT HOME_PLAY=/home/gem/old_play
EXPORT HOME_PLAY=/home/gem/play
EXPORT PATH=$PATH:HOME_PLAY
After saving above changes, I enter the command: source ~/.bashrc Now if I do echo $PATH, the path shows both the old PLAY_HOME and new PLAY_HOME. This is really bad and messes up a lot of things in my project. This problem only goes away if I logout or reboot, a rather very long process. What is happening is that the old path is added to new path element and the old path includes the old path element you want to remove.
Does anyone know how to get the path with a inode number by C programming?
Or can I get the absolute path without giving a "path" but a inode number by C?

running Windows 7 64bit with VMware Workstation 7.01-build 227600. I have some knowledge of Linux, I have installed f12 and have updated the system as of 03/22/2010. All updates completed successfully.
1) How do I install VMTools on the f12 (after mounting the CD/DVD tool package)
2) How do I update the gcc files it says are dependencies?
