I have an M-Audio Delta 44 sound card and I can't get jackd to start. It worked fine under SuSE 11.1 but under 11.2 it seems to be missing something. Here's the error messages I get when I try to start it code...
View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to use rosegarden purely for midi (i.e not audio, recording synths etc.) as my midi keyboard already has loads of great tones. When jackd is running, it really slows rosegardens performance, and the trouble is with the new rosegarden (10.04) jack is started automatically when you start rosegarden. Is there a way to prevent this? Please help, rosegarden is a great app but this is rather annoying. Uninstalling jack would be bad because other things I need use jack.

I recently installed debian 8 stretch with xfce. Since the first time I boot, I have problem starting my X session: from lightdm I always attemped 2 or 3 times before it login (it returned me on lightdm prompt after a short splash screen).
Now it stopped working: the only way I can start xsession is running startx as root. When I try as user it starts the "splash" and return me to the tty with this error message:

I try to reconfigure Xorg but the Xorg -configure command result in another segmentation fault.
I think that the problem could be related with old configuration (when I install this version of debian I maintain the /home partition and my previous OS was debian 7 with xfce).
I installed jessie from a beta/rc shortly before release on my MacBook Pro 13 Retina and have kept it up to-date with apt-get dist-upgrade. Rcently gdm3/gnome-session have stopped working together. When I log in the screen goes black for a couple of seconds then goes back to the login screen. This happens with "System Default", "GNOME Classic" and "GNOME", but not with "GNOME on Wayland". However, Wayland seems to have some other issues. I haven't tried an alternative dm yet, eg lightdm, but the GNOME desktop does work when started with startx.
I've just used journalctl to get logs of what gdm3 and gnome-session were doing at the time. After booting I waited until the clock reached the next minute (19:55) so I'd know at which point in the logs I'd hit enter on my password. I'll post the gdm log separately in two chunks because the forum server doesn't seem to like text attachments and they're too long for one post.
Log from gnome-session:

I am using ubuntu 10.10 server amd64. And i am using IDJC for online radio. My problem is jackd connections disconnect after one night. Because of that my radio stream disconnects. There is nothing wrong with idjc's settings.
View 7 Replies View RelatedGnome sessions started hanging during login on a debian lenny box, and I can only think it's related to a recent package update as it was working fine before the last set. It affects all user accounts and hangs before the applications menu or any icons appear on the panels, but after after the top /bottom panels and the desktop background appears.

I'm trying to create a new gdm session in tty8, so I can switch between tty7 and tty8 running simultaneously.
How can I accomplish this? I found some website suggesting to run startx and also startx gnome-session -- :1 vt8 Both result in a black screen, blocking the overall system, not allowing me to go to tty1 nor any tty. I have to run REINSUB to restart the system.
# I don't know if tty is the exact term to refer to the CTRL+ALT+Fx virtual terminals.
I have been having troubles with having sound from my soundcard "M-Audio Firewire Solo" since I installed Ubuntu, more than 1 year ago.
Today, I have the sound from audacious 2 by using jack which means I can now listen music because audacious supports jack. what about other stuff?
I mean, forexample I cannot hear anything on ...... becouse firefox does not try to send the sound to the jack - or something like that I assume. So I think, there must be a way that I can hear all the sound that my computer produce. (welcome sound, pidgin sounds, video sounds, game sounds etc...)
So that, I am searching for a way that I can direct the whole sound to the JACK which can send the sound to my firewire soundcard and to my speakers.
OR
What the hell is FFADO - Mixer? Is this problem have something to do with that? do I need to use jack always in order to have sound ? I am not going to produce something on ubuntu - I do it with Win. so All I need is to use my soundcard as a regular soundcard
I am now using an upgraded version of vanilla ubuntu to studio Karmic.
I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 and I have an external Sound card: Phonic Firefly 302.
I've connected the device, installed Jackd, added the lines:
@audio - rtprio 99
@audio - memlock 500000
@audio - nice -10 to /etc/security/limits.conf
logged out, logged back in, ran qjackctl (sudo qjackctl to be exact), ran the settings and chose "firewire" on the driver option, pressed "Start" and that was the output:

This morning I did a minimal install of Debian to test out xfce and lxde, purely out of curiosity.I tried LXDE first. For various reasons I wasn't entirely pleased, so I removed it and installed xfce4 in a vanilla openbox session. Upon reboot, I was greeted with the CLI. I generated a new xorg.conf file to see if the transition to xfce had altered it, but was greeted with the CLI again after another reboot. I manually started X with 'startx' and noted that the xfce session manager was installed. The xdm session manager, however, was not.Installing xdm fixed the problem, kind of. I am now greeted with an xdm login screen rather than an xfce session login screen. What can I do to have xfce-session be my default login screen?
View 3 Replies View RelatedHow do I get netjack to automatically patch to the (physical) system outputs when it connects to jackd?
Currently I have to open qjackctl manually and route netjack every time I log in. Is there a terminal interface for jackd or a special switch arg on netjack so I may automate this from a script?
is there a realtime or low-latency kernel in a repository somewhere for OpenSUSE 11.4? I know I can just compile a rt kernel, but that's a bit tedious and I'd like to avoid it if possible.
View 9 Replies View RelatedJust got Studio 9.10 running and the RT kernel installed. I have a Prescott P4 3.2ghz (hyperthreading) and i encountered what looks like a common freeze problem. I am guessing my cpu will not be supported in the RT kernel since it is pretty old now.I added nosmp acpi=off during boot at the Grub2 menu and it booted fine and I was able to capture some video great.
My questions is, if I remove the smp support by using the nosmp option, do I still benefit from the RT kernel or would I do just as well with the generic kernel I have installed?Eventually I will upgrade do a new system board and processor but for now I just got some life back in this one by switching to Linux
I have investigated loads and loads of options and haven't really yet come across what I need.
I wish to stream the microphone input from a PC using Lucid to another PC also using Lucid on the same network. I don't care about the quality, however, latency is really important. I hope to use it to monitor the cries of my baby daughter, so the lower the latency the better.
I have tired various options:
- FFserver and FFmpeg - latency of over 30 seconds
- VLC - couldn't get it to work with my mic and maxes out the CPU
- ssh server 'cat /dev/dsp > /dev/dsp' - latency of around 5 seconds by audio keeps breaking up with huge delays
- icecast2 and darkice - latency of around 7 seconds but no audio breakups
I've been reading on maybe using PulseAudio to stream the input, but I am not sure if it will work or not...
how to get near real-time streaming audio? As I said, it is the realtime, not the quality that is important...
What command to show MAC and IP of any computer conected in realtime?

As the title says, I'm looking for a command to resize on the fly as I capture. My desktop's 1680x1050, but I want to shrink down to say 1280x720.. or other.

A few weeks ago I have installed Debian Jessie on KDE Desktop Version. I have a problem with the Display Manager Kdm, if i log out session the monitor turns off (DVI No Signal), the only option that I have it's forced shutdown or reboot via power button. I try another DM lightdm and this works fine. But i liked to know why log out session crash on Kdm.
Adding : TerminateServer=true at the end of /etc/kde4/kdm/kdmrc (Section :[X-:*-Core], solve the issue.
When I start a second X session using startx --:1, (as either my normal user or root), it goes straight into and LXDE session (Debian's default, I think). Once LXDE is started, there is no applications menu (only run and logout). How do I get it to show the full application menu that my regular user can see when I log in from GDM3 normally?
View 2 Replies View RelatedTo use most of my Kali applications, I want to be able to log into an X session as root. I know it is generally a bad idea and I don't want to do it as a rule, but it is useful for penetration testing (e.g. nmap and its GUI don't have most of the useful options when run as a regular user).
So how do I get GDM3 to allow me to log in as root? Currently, if I type in the user name "root" and log in, it just takes me back to GDM3. Could it work to add root to my user group (I really don't want to add all kinds of security holes)?
After following a tutorial to install a pxe server for debian network install I can't log in my user session on gnome anymore
I got an error saying : /$home/.dmrc was ignored, can't save session and language the file must belong to the user and has persmission 644
I remember on my last session i got some icons on my home folder with a little lock icon on them i tried to remove them successfully using the command line but i still can't login. however i can successfully login with another user.
What is the Failsafe Session Type that you can select from the KDM login screen supposed to do ? With Squeeze RC1, if I attempt to log in to a failsafe session, I am returned to the KDM login screen. This does not seem very failsafe to me but then I am not a desktop expert. With Lenny (5.0.7), I get a single console window, which, I guess, at least gives one a chance of fixing whatever may be stopping the normal KDE session from starting.

It seems to happen with Cinnamon in any Linux distro I've tried. Once I boot into Debian Cinnamon, how can I stop my Cinnamon session (I think I must start with Ctrl+Alt+F1) , then get a straight X session to run my app without Cinnamon, with 3Dacceleration in VirtualBox?

Having problem with latest testing and kde5 session restore?
I ended up adding one line in .xinitrc file.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen KDE starts up a new session, it restores the progs that were running at log out last time.I am running skype and that prog is brought back but I suspect that KDE is restarting the "bin" (skype-bin) rather than the startup script (skpe) which contains the necessary "LD_PRELOAD" stuff essential to get the webcam operating OK.I can't find where KDE stores the session info, any ideas?
