Debian Multimedia :: Libcairo2 1.10.2-6 Slows Down Clearlooks Theme By 4x?

Apr 8, 2011

I use Debian Testing with the default Clearlooks theme - (nvidia graphics, 32-bit kernel 2.6.38-2-bigmem) For some time i noticed Nautilus opening folders slowly. I did a gtkperf test and i was surprised that i got 12 or so seconds. Before i had ~3 seconds. Gtkperf test output with the libcairo2 version 1.10.2-6 (notice the high GtkComboBox and GtkToggleButton values):

GtkEntry - time:  0.05
GtkComboBox - time:  3.96
GtkComboBoxEntry - time:  0.82
GtkSpinButton - time:  0.21
GtkProgressBar - time:  0.11

[Code]...

This happens 100% of the time, it is not a one-time gtkperf quirk. Now, what is wrong with the vanilla libcairo2? And why hadrets version works well?

Ubuntu :: Opera Hides Menubars With Clearlooks Theme?

May 3, 2011

After I upgraded to Naty Narwhal (I'm using Ubuntu Classic, because my GPU cannnot process Unity) few days ago, Opera began to hide both menubar and disable its own control bar (not sure how should I call it - the close, minimize, maximize thingy). Actually, the problem occurs only when I'm using Clearlooks theme. With Ubuntu's default (radiance) everything is fine.

Debian Multimedia :: Qpdfview Appears With Generic Theme Instead Of Gtk Theme

Jul 5, 2015

Since I updated my system a couple of days ago, qpdfview uses a generic theme instead of the Gtk theme. Apparently by adding

Code: Select allexport QT_STYLE_OVERRIDE=gtk.

to /etc/profile all QT5 apps should use the gtk theme but for some reason this doesn't seem to work.

Adding -style=gtk to the launcher options works but I want to change the theme setting for all QT5 apps.

Debian Multimedia :: Dark Theme Vs Light Theme

Aug 4, 2011

I enjoy using vim from lxterminal with the black background, as well as awesome with its dark theme. I configured xfe manually to be darkish, and i use darklooks as a GTK theme to suit it as well. I could say all my desktop looks pretty dark, which my eyes thank me for. I also use redshift. But problems come along when surfing the web. Most web pages (including this one) have very bright styles. They are not the problem themselves, but switching from my windows hurts my eyes since it's a quick change to a much brighter screen. What would you do, either:

1. Use everything with a brighter background and putting the screen brightness a bit lower. (changing the GTK theme to clearlooks, using lxterminal with a white background, etc.)

2. Use some color theme with uzbl so that pages would look much darker. (like when you set manually the text and background colors in Firefox/Iceweasel)

I would myself go with the second one if most pages wouldn't look that bad when modified that way. For example, many pages use non-transparent images with white backgrounds on white pages, so if you change the background to black not only it looks horrible but it too is a mess.

Debian Multimedia :: Gnome Shell Slows Down Over Time

Jun 6, 2015

I find gnome-shell 3.14.2 becomes slugish after several days of use. This manifests in short delays on window functions, such as closing a window or opening a new one. Restarting gnome shell fixes it.I thought of trying to take a stack trace during the delay, but found 2 issues:

1) debian doesn't have gstack/pstack package ...?
2) attaching a debugger to gnome shell from gnome shell hangs it (duh) , which means I can't type the "bt" command

Debian Multimedia :: How To Install Elementary Theme

Jul 30, 2011

I was looking for some cool theme and I decided to try out Elementary. I downloaded archive, extracted it... but after that?

This is directory tree:

total 52
-rw-r--r--  1 dagrevis dagrevis   212 Jan 19  2011 AUTHORS
-rw-r--r--  1 dagrevis dagrevis   191 Feb  2 01:10 CONTRIBUTORS
-rw-r--r--  1 dagrevis dagrevis 17992 Jan 19  2011 COPYING

[code].....

I tried to drag archive to 'Appearance Preferences', but it "...does not appear to be a valid theme.". I tried to drag extracted archive - "...can't move directory over directory.". Once I somehow get it to count as installed, but when I clicked on it - it was missing 'Elementary GTK+' or something like that... Ohh, I tried to run file 'elementary', but after 'Run' button is pressed - it does ignore it. No further action or whatever. How to install this and, maybe, other themes for Debian 6.0.2?

P.S. Before that all I installed 'gtk2-engines-murrine' as well as said in 'guide' in DeviantART.

Debian Multimedia :: I3 - Iceweasel Does Not Apply Gtk-theme On Login

May 1, 2015

After logging in to i3 i launch an instance of iceweasel via

Code: Select allexec --no-startup-id i3-msg 'workspace 2; exec /usr/bin/iceweasel

This instance of iceweasel only applies half of the gtk-theme, which i set via the mate-control-center.

The main problem is that the text in the right-click menu and on inactive tabs has the wrong colour (dark text on dark background)

When closing this instance of iceweasel and opening another one, the gtk-theme is correctly applied.

Installed gtk-theme-switch and set the theme there, now it works as expected

Debian Multimedia :: Use Ubuntu's Brown Theme In Squeeze?

Aug 16, 2011

I'm a recent convert from Ubuntu but of all the things I thought I could get used to, a different colour scheme is not one of them. Does anybody know of a way to import the brown colour scheme from Ubuntu 10.04 LTS into Debian Squeeze? I've tried configuring it as best I can by configuring the Clearlooks theme, but to get the brown panels/menus/titlebars with white writing that doesn't make all other writing white also must mean editing some config file(s).

Can I just copy whatever these files are from Ubuntu to Debian? I don't need the whole "titlebar buttons the left" caper, but the colours... I find easier on my eyes, particularly the dark brown panels, etc, since they're always staring at me and it's less of an eye strain to have a light colour "in my face" most of the time. Changing to a dark colour scheme everywhere is more trouble than it's worth, which is why I liked this theme in Ubuntu. It was dark where it needed to be but light where most apps/etc assume black fonts, dark blue hyperlinks, etc.

Debian Multimedia :: Gnome Theme Menu Arrows Have Randomly Disappeared

Jun 25, 2011

I'm running Debian Squeeze, and I have a gnome theme called "Moomex" installed. I have had it for a while and it has worked fine, until it suddenly stopped displaying menu scroll arrows (like for long bookmark menus in web browsers). I can still scroll, but in place of the arrows is a solid colored rectangle that clashes with my theme. I went searching and found my theme's arrow image files (see code below). I have no idea how these files are implemented into the theme display, so I don't know how to re-enable them. I tried reinstalling the theme, but it changed nothing. These arrows show up just fine in any other stock theme, and they were fine in this one too until they randomly disappeared.

Debian :: Crypto On System Slows Down ?

Dec 25, 2010

I've got a Lenny system on a quad core system with 4GB of ram. Currently Linux www 2.6.26-2-amd64 #1 SMP Thu Nov 25 02:05:44 UTC 2010 x86_64

I've had it for a couple of years, and its been fine, very fast and reliable.

Lately, its got a problem: after its been running for a day or two, access using SSH, or TLS/HTTPS gets really slow. Painfully slow. A reboot returns the system to normal fast operation.

I can't think of anything that has changed, other than I got a new SSL cert and installed it.

The system is mostly a vanity domain server, with Apache HTTPD running a half dozen very low volume services. Its running bind9, mysql, and a few other things, nothing big, nothing that would load down a quad core with lots of ram. The disk is only 14% used.

Though, now on debian running iceweasel for the same purpose hogs memory and processor time, which slows down the responsiveness of the system as a whole, making it difficult to use other programs.I'm curious how I should go about troubleshooting this issue, and what diagnostics might help me find the solution.

A few months back I performed a routine aptitude upgrade on a Squeeze installation on a DELL Vostro desktop. My eth0 upload speed is now very bad although download speed is good. Ubuntu :: How To Choose Upper-left Controls For Clearlooks

This choice of System > Preferences > Appearance comes with the "minimize, maximize, and close" controls in the upper right-corner.I'd like to get used to using these controls in the upper left-corner, because I gather that with Maverick Meerkat, this placement will be standard--and also because I think that this placement will actually prove more convenient for me, once I get used to it. How can I modify the Clearlooks appearance so as to put these controls in the upper left-corner?

Ubuntu :: Current Theme Defaults To Silver Theme For No Reason Randomly On Login

May 4, 2011

For some reason, from time to time on login, as my normal theme starts to load, it changes to some sort of silver theme (a very basic one), and I am unable to change it over to any other theme. Checking the theme being used, it still says my desired one is set, but it is not. Also, no matter what theme I change it to, that basic silver theme is the one being used. This includes a default icon theme, not the one I prefer.

The only option that seems to fix things is a restart, and the hope that on this login it won't mess up like before.I am using Natty, from a fresh install, with Ubuntu Classic as my desktop, and have reinstalled things more than once to try and fix a few of the Natty-related issues, but this one keeps coming back.
