Debian Multimedia :: LiVES Has No Sound When In Multitrack Mode?

Nov 28, 2010

I'm hoping I put this in the right uhh.. thread? Forum? Section?Anyways, my problem is that LiVES is a Video Editing System doesn't have sound whenever I go into Multitrack mode, otherwise, it's fine. It's kinda a major issue since I plan to work with tons of clips in the future. Again, hoping that this is in the right section

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Select DTS/AC3 Track By Default On A MKV Multitrack?

Jan 10, 2010

what can i do if i want that smplayer selects the DTS/AC3 track from a multitrack MKV file by default? for example, i've added for some MKV an AC3 audio track in order to use it with my receiver but on the MKV the "track 0" is on AAC and the "track 1" is on AC3 and always smplayer starts with the "track 0" so smplayer will select the "track 1" doing nothing by me side.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: LiVES Video Editor Effect Missing?

Mar 16, 2010

I've got some video clips that were shot with an incorrect white balance, which I'd like to correct. Having read that LiVES has color FX, I thought I'd give it a try.

The documentation for LiVES [URL] shows a "colour correction" effect that I don't see anywhere on my copy of LiVES 1.1.5. My digging so far hasn't found a plug-in that does color correction.

Edit -> Multitrack mode seems to be where multiple movies can be placed. I do not seem to be able to place the still images on here. Maybe I can and they just don't show up on the timeline well.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Native Spotify Has Distorted - Clipping Sound Wuality In Offline Mode

Sep 17, 2010

I recently bought a monthful of Spotify Premium to enjoy music at the school with my laptop and Nokia E71 with the offline mode - the WiFi at our school is too laggy to stream online music. Under wine, it works quite fine, however, I would totally like to use the native client (yes, I'm too a "yay linux" person like all of you here ), but the music quality is very poor on offline mode. It clips, goes forward, a second back, then back forward etc. The bitrate sounds to be high, an the quality is very good except the annoying clipping.

Anyone else experiencing this? I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 Beta release with Samsung N510 so the cpu power should not be an issue even though the native client uses the resources very greedily. Interesting enough, on my desktop computer (Core2Quad @ 3,3GHz, 4GB 900MHz DDR2 RAM) with the same OS version and software plays offline playlists smoothly (only some occasional clipping)

Debian Multimedia :: No Sound In Iceweasel And Chromium - Otherwise Sound Works

Sep 8, 2011

I can play sound files with aplay, esdplay, and vlc, but I don't get any sound from iceweasel and chromium.

I installed a squeeze base system (without gnome and without the standard system utilities), then added (using --no-install-recommends) xserver-xorg-core, xdm, fluxbox, alsa-base, alsa-utils, alsa-oss, iceweasel, chromium-browser. Here I checked for sound and there was none from the browsers. I have since installed vlc, esound-clients, alsaplayer-esd, gstreamer0.10-alsa, and other software that didn't look sound-related and didn't change the symptoms.

Setting ICEWEASEL_DSP to "aoss" or "esddsp" doesn't help. Neither does "chmod -R 777 /dev/{audio,dsp,midi,mixer,snd}". snd-pcm-oss and snd-mixer-oss are loaded. Both my account and root are in group "audio". Running the browsers as root doesn't help.

This is the output of chromium:

In case it makes any difference, all of this happens in a qemu-kvm virtual machine with an emulated es1370 soundcard. Same with sb16 soundcard.

I would prefer not to install everything vaguely related to sound in the repositories in the hope of things fixing themselves. That's just ugly, plus I have only 200MB free space left.

Debian Multimedia :: No Sound In KDE - VLC/mplayer/firefox Still Have Sound

May 26, 2010

I made a recent update to my Squeeze system and got this weird problem. mplayer, VLC and firefox (.....) all have sound. But when I try to run Amarok I get nothing. I looked into the Multimedia panel on the KDE4 system settings, and its not showing any devices at all. Previously it used to show HDA Intel etc., etc. Now the entries are completely blank. How do I get KDE to recognize my hardware? Shouldnt it pick things up automatically?

Debian Multimedia :: Can't Get To Console From The Graphics Mode

Apr 5, 2011

My problem is that I anyway cannot get to the text console when I have run the desktop environment. When I press Ctrl+Alt+Fx (where x - number of tty console), the video adapter doesn't send signal into monitor. Keyboard also stops reacting, only Magic SysRq Key works. The same result I can see when I turn off the desktop environment (I have uninstalled gdm) or kill X-server with the "kill -9" command. The only way to get to console (except window terminal) is remote connection via SSH.

The problem occurs only when I have run X-server. When I turn on the computer, I can see start messages. Since I've uninstalled gdm, I have also access to the console after I turn on my computer. I can normally switch between tty consoles, until I type "startx" command. Everything started when I've tryed to install non-free ATI video drivers. They practically worked, because I've had some problems with them (I just don't remember what problems), so I've uninstalled them and returned to the open. Then this problem apeeared. I tried to reinstall Xorg, change kernel (installed from repos), switch off the framebuffer, but it gave nothing.

Debian Multimedia :: Gnome3 Reverts To Fallback Mode

Apr 13, 2013

I have just installed Debian Wheezy. However, on logging in for the first time it reverted back to what looks like gnome2. I think this is a graphics card issue...

lspci -v | grep VGA returns:
01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI RS780L [Radeon HD 3000] (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])

glxinfo | grep OpenGL returns:
OpenGL vendor string: VMware, Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 0x209)
OpenGL version string: 2.1 Mesa 8.0.5
OpenGL shading language version string: 1.20
OpenGL extensions:

Is this a proprietary firmware issue and am simply better off disabling the built in graphics card and purchasing a separate card or is there a simple fix for this?

Debian Multimedia :: Gnome 3 Defaults To Fallback Mode

Feb 11, 2015

I recently installed Wheezy from a DVD (that was written almost a year and half ago) to my desktop. The DVD install was a minimal one, so after installation I updated the system and installed gnome. But after reboot, my gnome always falls back to gnome-classic.

Code: Select all$ gnome-shell --version
GNOME Shell 3.4.2
$ cat /etc/issue
Debian GNU/Linux 7
l

May be some firmware is missing, so I installed firmware-linux, firmware-linux-free, firmware-linux-nonfree, firmware-realtek, firmware-atheros (last two following a boot time warning). That did not solve the problem, so I just did Code: Select all$ sudo apt-get install firmware-* That also did not solve the problem.

Then I looked into my .xsession-errors file:

Code: Select all/etc/gdm3/Xsession: Beginning session setup...
localuser:somesh being added to access control list
openConnection: connect: No such file or directory
cannot connect to brltty at :0
gnome-session-is-accelerated: No hardware 3D support.

[code]...

I also installed "libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental" from another post I found in this forum. But gnome still falls back to gnome-classic.My hardware is: Core i5-4440, Intel onboard graphics, realtek audio and network.

Debian Multimedia :: Screen Remains Black After Sleep Mode

Feb 20, 2011

I recently came to Debian. As I have an ati card, I tried the proprietary drivers first, but then came back to radeon (open-source). In the process, I think I may have broke my xorg.conf . Sometimes, when the monitor goes into sleep mode, when I came back, the screen remains black (sometimes I see just the cursor).

Here is my xorg.conf
# NOXORGCONFEXISTED: No X.org configuration file existed when this backup was created.

Also, I have lots of backups in my X11 folder, like xorg.conf.fglrx-3, xorg.conf.original-1, or backup.xorg.conf. Is it safe to remove them? What should I do about the main xorg.conf?

Debian Multimedia :: Graphics Mode And 'xf86config' Command Not Found?

Mar 29, 2011

I recently did a reinstall on my system and I am now running Squeeze. I am currently trying to get some software running, but I believe I am having issues with the graphics requirements. The software needs an X server with 8 bit / PseudoColor mode. It is recommended to work in "8,24"-overlay mode. This was set up on my old install on this computer, so I know it is not a problem with my graphics card. But in the installation guide it says to enable this function it is necessary to add some information in the file /etc/X11/XF86Config-4. The problem is I don't have this file. I had this file in my old install, but on the fresh install it is not there. I have the /etc/X11/ directory, and it contains: directories: app-defaults, applnk, cursors, fonts, twm, xinit, xkb, Xreset.d, Xresources, Xsession.d

and

files: default-display-manager, rgb.txt, X, Xreset, Xsession, Xsession.options, XvMCConfig, Xwrapper.config

I think I've looked through everything in the /etc/X11/ directory but I don't see anything that looks like the XF86Config-4 file. Is there possibly a package that I am missing or something I need to run to create this file? I know on my old install this file was created or modified by running 'xf86config' in the command line. I've tried that, but it tells me 'command not found'.

Debian Multimedia :: Xfce Panel Error Upon Login - Kiosk Mode

Mar 27, 2015

I just completed a fresh install of the weekly jessie build (downloaded today). All I've done is install updates, add my username to sudoer list, and reboot. When I did, the xfce panel was not there. When I right clicked, Apps, Panel, it opened with an error that I cannot make changes unless I save my session and that it's in kiosk mode. After a logoff or reboot, it's still not there. I saw one thread asked for the output of /.xsession-errors, which I've done, and it doesn't look good... I'm just not sure how to fix:

Code: Select allopenConnection: connect: No such file or directory
cannot connect to brltty at :0
/usr/bin/x-session-manager: X server already running on display :0
xfce4-session-Message: ssh-agent is already running; starting gpg-agent without ssh support

Debian Multimedia :: Scribus Crashes When Editing Text In Layout Mode

Sep 29, 2015

I use Scribus for designing leaflets and broshures. Unfortunately with the most recent version in the stable branch the program crashes each time I try to edit text in layout mode. I didn't have this problem in older versions. So I wonder if this is a bug others noticed in Scribus 1.4.4 on Debian GNU/Linux 8 (jessie) 32-bit.

For normal text editing I use the text edit mode anyway but when I try to fix line breaks it's always hard to not instantly see what I am doing. So even if I just want to insert a single character the program crashes with the following message: Scribus crashes due to Signal #11

Debian Multimedia :: Virtualbox GUI Is Black Or Night Mode - Guests Boot OK

Oct 17, 2015

I posted this over in the VirtualBox forums but was directed to the debian forums as it was the debian fork.VBoxManage and all virtualbox GUI elements are black with white text ("night mode" in other apps) with no borders or other useful Gui bits. Apparently the board image quota is reached (?) but you can see it here: URL...All the guests work, it's just this GUI issue.

vbox-install log on other board,I upgraded from Debian 7 stable to Debian 8 stable. I haven't used virtualbox in a long time, so maybe I somehow did this myself, but I'm not sure where that is if I did.

I couldn't find anything else in /var/log that would be useful. It's across all users. I checked the launch scripts /usr/bin/virtualbox, /usr/bin/ vbox manage, and /var/lib/virtualbox/*

Networking :: Hypothetical Swap Space That Lives On A Fast Network Drive?

May 8, 2011

Let's say that software is written that treats a network drive as a swap drive.

Further, let's say that this network drive is not a hard drive on the server but it is a chunk of memory treated as a filesystem in other words a ramdisk on the server.

Given the bottleneck of gigabit ethernet that is used for the link, can anyone predict the likely practical bandwidth of this swap drive in MBytes/s, and crucially the latency in milliseconds?

The reason for this imaginary setup is outside the scope of the linuxquestions forums, please answer on the likely performance only.

Debian Multimedia :: No Sound In KDE?

Mar 5, 2010

Because I wanted a cleaner, simpler system I installed only the 'basic' packages with the Debian (Lenny 5.0.4) installer and then used "apt-get install KDE" to get the desktop. It worked well enough. KDE runs fine graphically, but I have no sound. System event sounds don't work and no media players can produce any sound. Yet, when installed "all at once" sound worked fine with KDE. What would be different between these two methods of installing KDE? DO I possibly need to install something else? (I tried installing ALSA and running alsaconfig but that didn't fix it.) Or could there be conflicts because of the two-stage install?
