I installed Debian 8.2 XFCE but i just can't get the sound to work. With speaker-test in console the sounddevice works, but in any other application it doesn't.
I checked if the channels in the alsamixer were muted and tried everything I could think of but i couldn't get it to work on XFCE. On GNOME it works fine.
I am running Debian Squeeze on a laptop and I cannot get sound to work on it. It detects theres 2 sound cards in alsamixer and under cards i see HDA-Intel - HA ATI SB and HDA ATI SB at 0x90400000 irq 16. I think HDA-Intel is suppose to be selected not what is currently selected which is HDA ATI SB. If thats not an issue I'm not sure what is and I've tried reinstalling Squeeze and it still hasn't fixed the issue.

Anyway, I once was hearing sounds, but later they've gone again. I have ALSA set up in 'System - Prefs - Sound' and also in 'Multimedia Systems Selector', Debian Testing (sid) 2.6.32-3-686. I also cannot set the tray icon to 'Blink On New Message'. When I recieve a message - I only see a smilie there, no 'blinking'.
View 1 Replies View Relatedi have both pulseaudio and gstreamer installed, my "multimedia audio controller" claims to be a ESS Technology ES1988 Allegro-1 in the system information window and in the report i generated it says my Audio Adapter is "MPU-401 UART - MPU-401 UART" PulseAudio tells me Connection failed: Connection refused and the volume control that came with the system says No volume control GStreamer plugins and/or devices found. I am not understanding, here. do I need some driver that i don't have? i installed all the gstreamer plugins that seemed to pertain to volume that i could find. If i am not very much mistaken, I am using Debian Lenny.

1. When I change the sound to internal sound the webcam works in Skype but I have not sound.
2. When I change the sound to the USB headset (sound output) the webcam does not work in Skype.
When I installed my 64 bit system of Ubuntu 10.04 the sound worked very well and I were very happy. The problem started however when I installed Skype which uses pulseaudio. As soon as I start skype (or any other application that uses pulse, HoN for example) the applications sound output or input does not work at all. If I have pulseaudio started in some way, applications that I suppose do not use it like spotify or flash player stops to produce sounds. Running Compiz as a standalone WM.Managed to get Slim working, will post how later, but have no sound. If I boot using gdm3 the sound works. View 2 Replies View RelatedI can play sound files with aplay, esdplay, and vlc, but I don't get any sound from iceweasel and chromium.
I installed a squeeze base system (without gnome and without the standard system utilities), then added (using --no-install-recommends) xserver-xorg-core, xdm, fluxbox, alsa-base, alsa-utils, alsa-oss, iceweasel, chromium-browser. Here I checked for sound and there was none from the browsers. I have since installed vlc, esound-clients, alsaplayer-esd, gstreamer0.10-alsa, and other software that didn't look sound-related and didn't change the symptoms.
Setting ICEWEASEL_DSP to "aoss" or "esddsp" doesn't help. Neither does "chmod -R 777 /dev/{audio,dsp,midi,mixer,snd}". snd-pcm-oss and snd-mixer-oss are loaded. Both my account and root are in group "audio". Running the browsers as root doesn't help.

In case it makes any difference, all of this happens in a qemu-kvm virtual machine with an emulated es1370 soundcard. Same with sb16 soundcard.
I would prefer not to install everything vaguely related to sound in the repositories in the hope of things fixing themselves. That's just ugly, plus I have only 200MB free space left.
I made a recent update to my Squeeze system and got this weird problem. mplayer, VLC and firefox (.....) all have sound. But when I try to run Amarok I get nothing. I looked into the Multimedia panel on the KDE4 system settings, and its not showing any devices at all. Previously it used to show HDA Intel etc., etc. Now the entries are completely blank. How do I get KDE to recognize my hardware? Shouldnt it pick things up automatically?

I cannot get my sound to work, I've looked around on the threads, but nothing as helped, but that could also be because I'm new at this.. Anyways, the thing I find weird about it is when I started it up, I could hear the startup noise of Ubuntu, but I can't hear anything else.

I've tried just about everything I can to get sound working through Pulseaudio (and disabling) For Mugen on my Acer revo but I can't figure it out. Sounnd works fine for everything other than this game. Running Lucid on this machine and Karmic on my main desktop. Sound works Fine on my Karmic machine. I've tried the windows versions of Mugen and Jmugen but they don't run well or at all.running lsof in a separate terminal with mugen running:

Which I suppose means it's trying to access the card directly with OSS. I get the same output no matter how I configure the sound in Mugen. I tried launching it with padsp ./mugen, still no sound and same output. I installed all alsa/OSS/pulseaudio packages that my Karmic machine has with no difference. Not sure where else I should be looking.
My sound is not working in my new (10.4 version) of Ubuntu installation. I am a first-time Ubuntu user, but I do have Linux experience with Fedora.
I have spent hours trying anything I could find here and everywhere, so I don't even know where to begin to describe any errors and such. I just want sound, particularly mp3 playing ability. I also have a Fedora installation on this machine (different hard drive) and it works fine, so it's not the hardware.
It's possible I just did something wrong...Anyway, I don't have any sounds, and haven't since installation.

I am using Ubuntu 9.10. My sound works fine unless I have headphones plugged in. I've tried 2 sets of headphones, and it doesn't work with either set, so it's not the headphones. The volume is not muted (it's at 100%) for the headphones either in alsamixer. How can I diagnose and fix this?

I've been struggling to get my sound to work properly in my HP dv7 laptop in Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit.
If I follow the instructions here [URL] then I can get my microphone to work.
My speakers worked fine right out of the box, but the headphone jack does not. When I follow the instructions here [URL] and install the alsa backports then my headphone jack works properly, but when I shutdown my computer I get a loud crackling/popping sound. Uninstalling the alsa backports stops the crackling, but then the headphone jack doesn't function.
Dosemu sound worked fine in ver. 9.10. Cannot get Dosemu sound to work under Lucid.

However on my new computer even after installing ALSAmixer, i cannot seem to be able to get playback from my rear two speakers. View 1 Replies View RelatedIm trying to get sound to work in mplayer for my myth tv box. My hardware setup is a nvidia motherboard with hdmi (not used) and a geforce 210 with hdmi (that is used). The hdmi is connect to an external amplifier that should handle most things. Sound works fine in mythtv - the audio output device used is:
ALSA:hdmi:Card=Nvidia_1,DEV=1
When I try using the command line speaker-test utility it all works:
speaker-test -Dplughw:2,7 -c6
However, aplay and mplayer both dont give any sound - with neither outputting any error messages.

I have a motherboard Gigabyte H110M-H DDR3 1.0 and a VGA Nvidia NVS 300 (It doesn't have HDMI connector, but after Debian installation, it shows audio HDMI), After installling Debian 8.4 Jessie amd64, I noticed the sound doesn't work, the motherboard audio codec is a Realtek ALC887, I don't have a HDMI Monitor, nor my VGA has HDMI Connector, but is a little bit strange that Debian recognizes HDMI Audio, if a run "# cat /proc/asound/cards" it shows me two audio cards, the HDMI and the ALC887 and if I run "# cat /procs/asound/modules", both cards are using snd_hda_intel. It is installed PulseAudio and Pavucontrol, I have checked if the audio was muted, but the sound volume is set to 100%, I don't know what to do anymore... I have a computer with a realtek codec too, but it's another model ALC665 or something like that, and the system is equipped with an ATI HD 5450 with HDMI Audio, I have checked the what modules the Debian is using, and both uses the snd_hda_intel, but the sound works with HDMI and Realtek Codec.
