Debian GNU/Linux 8 (jessie) 64-bit Gnome 3.14.1
I just installed JustCloud: justcloud.com it work fine but it has an auto add to start-up applications, and after OS launch it hide-s in down bar message tray like skype or USB stick, I-m OK with that, but when pressing on it right or left click it don-t maximize, and message tray closes it self after click.
It happened when I updated my php5.4 to 5.5 version on my small Debian 7 server. I am only getting GRUB right after BIOS boot pass, then none of the keys working even C or Shift buttons to go to command promt except CTRL+ALT+DEL.
I have tried rescue mode with live CD, selected myserver/root/ partition to install GRUB but not worked.
How to recover my server, I have some important data in it and I don`t want to destroy them.
I have an Laptop Acer aspire one D250 with debian 8 and gnome3, actualy the screen resolution are 1024*600 pixels, i want to try to maximize resolution.I hope to win 1280*800 screen resolution but the control panel fix display maximum to 1024*600, how i can to put another large resolution ?which years ago, i'm editing the xorg.conf file to put that i want resolution !I forgot that can i do for maximise resolution, some on can tell me how fix manualy the screen resolution.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI'm running debian lenny and want to change the screen resolution from 640x480 to 1024x768. I'm using a nVidia Geforce FX 5800 and I installed the additional nvidia drivers with the help of this tutorial [URL]. Here is my xorg.conf

When I try to change the screen resolution via the gnome menu I just can choose the 640x480 resolution and 50Hz refresh rate.
I am using Debian Wheezy with LXDE and I am using the monitor resolution as 1280x1024. Now the Window maximize, minimize buttons look tiny and its pretty irritating. Is there anyway I can make them bigger ? I tried googling but whatever documentation I found was regarding GNOME not LXDE since not many people use it. I don't want to try any online themes of Linux just want the buttons to be bigger. Is there anyway ?
View 12 Replies View RelatedI have a multi-platform QT4 application and I'm trying to make it run on Debian 7.x. In this app I'm creating 2 QSystemTrayIcon 's and when I run this application on Debian 7.8 with Gnome 3 disabled both tray icons show up nicely in the notification area in the top-right panel. However when I have Gnome 3 enabled nothing shows up in the top-right panel and the tray icon shows up in the (hidden) bottom panel, but the problem is only the first one of my 2 tray icons shows up - the other one is lost.
I'd like to ask, whether it is by design so, that on Gnome 3+Debian 7.8 there can be only one tray icon per application? Or is it some issue with Qt? I tried also Ubuntu 14.04 with Gnome 3 and there both tray icons showed up nicely in the top-right panel.
There doesn`t seem to be a tray icon for Rhythmbox. The only way to minimize it seems to be to the taskbar. I have used Rhythmbox. I am using a fully updated Debian Testing with Rhythmbox 0.12.3.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI use Debian Jessie which includes a gnome shell version 3.14.1. The problem is that icons of some applications such as Viber or Starcal are not shown in the tray while the icons of other applications (e.g. Skype of Dropbox) are shown without problem.
By the way, the problem does not relate to loading, because all applications are loaded and a space is considered for each in the tray, but the problem is that for some of applications the pictures of their icons are not shown.
All qt4 apps tray icons are missing. Debian decided to drop sni-qt support and wmsystemtray is actually piece of shit. Also I can't even use ubuntu version of sni-qt, because it also needs to have patched version of qt4, but debian refused to include that patches. What should I do to make skype icon visible in kde5 tray?
View 14 Replies View RelatedOccasionally I get on lenny an empty system tray when logging in KDE, no right click menu, no icons. The previous session had been closed regularly. Is there a way to properly shutdown in the circumstances and to fix the problem?
(I don't know whether this has something to do with this but, in the past, on typing by mistake the print screen key, I got multiple instances of ksnapshot launched automatically and had to delete the directory under 'home' ~/.kde/share/config/session and the file ~/.kde/share/config/ksmserverrc to prevent this from repeating itself at every KDE login. The empty tray issue, however did not arise immediately after this, so it might be unrelated.)
i have a problem with both spotify and teamviewer. Both of them work just fine but when i close the main window they keep going in background (as they should) but, not showing any tray icon, if i want to close them i have to manually kill them in a terminal. For teamviewer there's an option to choose to completely close the program by closing the windows but i would like to have the possibility of having the app working in background with a tray icon!!!
Spotify gave me the same problem but i read on spotify community that is a bug of the current version. Still i'd like to solve the problem with teamviewer.I had a similar problem with skype and i solved getting a plugin from https://extensions.gnome.org/ but for teamviewer i don't see anything similar...

YouTube now automatically serves html5 content if it detects you are using firefox version 40 or above. Unfortunately as a result, all youtube videos are now served to me at 360p resolution, and there is no way to change that on the youtube web page.
Before upgrading firefox, I could watch hd videos using flash. The ability to switch to html5 was also available on [URL] .... But with the later version of firefox, the option to switch back to using flash is no longer there on that page.
When I could view both flash and html5 videos (with the older firefox), I found that html5 played back very poorly. flash, despite being a known resource hog, actually played back better (with no h/w acceleration of flash in linux, I resigned myself to expect to use faster PCs to run flash hd at full screen). Which is a great pity, as we all know flash is disappearing, but it appears I now have an even bigger issue with html5. Where's the hd video?
So how can I get a better html5 experience? My machine is an i3 with GTS250 nVidia running Stretch.
The problem of only getting 360p resolution is probably a bug in firefox. Once I can get hd, I am then uncertain if firefox could handle it.
The advice of setting 'media.mediasource.enabled' in about:config to true to get higher resolutions did not work for me.
When I do that, the [URL] .... says I have:
HTMLVideoElement, WebM VP8 and Media source Extensions support, and
H.264, MSE & H.264 and MSE & WebM VP9 unsupported.
I have hardware acceleration enabled in firefox, and have the OpenH264 Video Codec (Cisco) plugin installed.

I could switch back to using flash by using a user-agent switcher to fool youtube I have an older firefox, but that is a poor solution.
The version of Firefox (Iceweasel) in Sid, is 3.5.10. The latest version (of Firefox) is 3.6.6. Why is are the repos stuck so far behind? or is it Iceweasel that is stuck?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI thought I'd have a go at putting back sysvinit to run the start up daemons, after I discovered that upgrading to jessie removed it and slapped on systemd.
I didn't have any problems at all with systemd, infact it was pure speed at start-up, but after some reading I thought I'd like to go back to usual start-up scripts.
What I did was to boot a Live Debian and mount and chroot into my Debian system, then I ran

sudo apt-get install sysvinit-core sysvinit sysvinit-utils
On reboot, I hit a grub rescue prompt which says error: file not found.
Trying the methods to get that sorted out gets stuck with "unknown file system" after I use ls and ls(hd1,msdos2) -as well as other combinations - it only seems to work for a plugged in flash drive.
Then I chroot again and run update-grub and grub-install /dev/sdb but reboot still stops at grub rescue.
So I wonder, firstly, why replacing systemd mucked up grub. Then, besides re-install of systemd, how do I get a booting system?
I am using 11.3 on one machine and 11.2 on the other (a netbook). 11.4 won't install on either and 11.3 on the netbook fails to install as well.
I am using the same setup as I have always used when both systems ran 11.2 (details below) but now I can only mount a drive in one direction. In the other direction the mount command gets stuck with no error message until it eventually times out. I can ping and ssh the machines from each other without difficulty.
Even in the direction in which the mount apparently works (11.2 mounting a drive on the 11.3 machine) when I try to copy files across nothing actually happens.
exportfs -a was run successfully on the exporting machine, and nfsserver is running on both machines as does nfs client.
The exporting machine is 192.168.1.102 (eeelinux) and the other machine is 192.168.1.101 (nina).

The /etc/exports file on the exporting machine (192.168.1.102) looks like this:

It always shows a same icon, for every application which shows message tray icon. I just did some shell extension work after fresh installation of F15, nothing related on message tray. Don't know how to change it back.Dose anyone knows how to customize message tray icon for gnome-shell?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter installing a fresh Jessie, upgrading it to Stretch and then installing gnome. I see this white page with this weird error when I enter my password to log into my account in gnome:

Sometimes the error vanishes after a second and the desktop comes up with no problem and sometimes I get logged out automatically.

And user1 has sudo access on machine B. How can user1 send a message to user2 (so it should appear on user2's desktop) with notify-send? code...
This doesn't work. I get in result:

If I use console login it just turn black and after a while it get back to console and no protocol specified shows up together with xinit: giving up.
If I use root there is no problem and I can get into the desktop so it must be a user configuration problem or.....
I am having troubles with my printer.
I have to use the manual feed, as the tray jams.
When set to manual feed, it prints fine in B&W and color.
However, page 2 goes from manual to tray 1! One page at a time works great.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have 2 nvidia graphics cards and 3 monitors. One graphicss card is an nvidia 460 and the second one is an nvidia 8400 GS. I'm on Ubuntu lucid 64 bit gnome desktop. I use the nvidia drivers . 2 monitors are connected to the 460 card setup as twinview the last monitor is connected to the 8400 GS set as a separate xscreen.
When I now maximize a window on the 2 monitors which are set as twin view it expands this window gets stretched over both screens. I would like to know how I can set it so that an maximized window get only expands on the current screen in twinview so that I can still move windows from 1 screen to another.
I'm brand new to debian and quite new to unix based systems in general.
I just switched to debian from ubuntu in search of something different and I want to find a system that works for me before I settle down.

I think it's a driver issue but Its not as easy as ubuntu was lspci:
My trackpad also does not work so I have to open documents manually if I don't bring my mouse to class.
About a month ago I upgraded from Lenny to Squeeze and everything seemed fineBut sometime between then and now I lost the maximize and close buttons (I still have the minimize)This is only a minor annoyance for me but a major one for my wife.I searched the web and some other forums but have found no help.
View 3 Replies View Related11.2/gnome. After playing a video DVD (mplayer or vls), rt-clicking the desktop icon to eject, then closing the tray I can't open it again by pushing the tray's button. From terminal, if I login as su, I can restore function with eject -T. Kind of a pain, any easy fixes for this?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded to Lucid from Karmic and shortly before the release upgraded from a geforce 8400gs to my geforce GT240 and noticed no difference on Karmic. I read somewhere that the capability of video cards would be applied further with Lucid. Since installing Lucid I've noticed a severely reduced sharpness and severely increased contrast, changing the contrast in X server has no effect. My hardware driver is activated but not in use and no online fix I've attempted has been successful in resolving the issue. Is it possible to use a gt240 on lucid with no hassle and is there any way I can maximize my video cards capabilities?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI been running both OS's for a few months now with no major problems besides wireless internet issues. Today, however, as I go to boot my laptop up, the Dell logo loads with the F2 and F12 boot and setup options which both work. Directly after that though I get the message "GRUB loading. Symbol '?' not found. Aborted. Press any key to Exit." then it repeats when I push a key, and then it tells me to press F1 to retry, F2 to go to setup, or F5 to run diagnostics. It passes all the tests in diagnostics. I've tried booting off of the ubuntu cd I used to load it initially with no luck. So I'm stuck at either that error message or in setup but I can't go any further, and it does not change anything when I tried to boot from the cd.
