May 3, 2010I can't seem to get my microphone to work on Ubuntu 10.04. I have a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy SE PCI sound card. [URL]... Sound card is recognized by System/Preferences/Sound/Hardware as CA0106 Sound Blaster 1 Output / 1 Input Analog Stereo Duplex And sound output works 100% perfectly. I Google'd for hours and did not see anything to fix my microphone. My computer has front headphone and microphone ports and the front headphone port works fine but microphone does not. Also I tried plugging microphone into all the ports on the back into sound card but none worked. Also, I ran alsamixer from terminal and maxed out all volume settings. I wish to get the microphone working so I can play Counter Strike Source with Wine. I am willing to buy another sound card if someone can point out a replacement.

Mar 16, 2011I have a Dell Dimension 9200 (DXP061) with a Create eXtreme Music card. The box has a front mic jack and I can't get that to work.In the "Sound Preferences", it shows two possible hardware sources: "Internal Audio" and "SB X-fi".In "Input" I have multiple choices for "Connector" when "Internal Audio analog stereo is selected" ("Microphone 1/Line-In" etc) and for "SB X-Fi Analog Mono" there are none.I have tried every combination in there, plus every combination I can think of in "alsamixer" and the microphone still does not work (I know the microphone itself is OK).

Mar 9, 2010It's been almost two months since this problem started. I'm running 9.10, Karmic Koala, with all updates. I was hoping one of the updates would just fix this problem.
The microphone does not appear to work at all. It seems to exist because I have a choice for "Internal Audio Analog Stereo" under "sound preferences," but I don't know how else to check whether this is true. Sound Recorder does not record anything and Skype does not capture any sound from me.
how to run commands in the terminal and I consider myself an intermediate user, I just don't know anything about sound.

Nov 3, 2010I'm having some pulseaudio weirdness. Up until this evening, my built-in microphone worked fine with skype, google voice, etc.Tonight while talking on google voice, I made the mistake of trying to adjust the microphone volume at the same time.Suddenly the volume cut down to a tiny, tinny little sound.Now I can't get the microphone to work normally again. Some weird facts:
1) the built-in microphone still works fine in audacity and gnome-sound-recorder
2) the built-in microphone still works in Windows
3) the built-in microphone shows sound input in the pulseaudio applet->Volume Meter [code]....

Jan 22, 2011I can't get the microphone to work in any application (Sound Recorder, Audacity, Skype, etc.) It's been this way for a while and didn't bother me, but now I need to use Skype for work so I desperately need to fix this over the weekend. I checked the Comprehensive Sound Guide, but couldn't find an answer there. As far as I know, my ALSA is up to date (I had to update it to get the sound working at all).On a MSI Wind Desktop with 10.04, if that makes a difference.

Jul 14, 2010I have a hda-intel soundcard which is working perfectly with alsa on Kubuntu 10.4. The only problem is the microphone.
Apparently I am not able to make it capture any sound or the sound is horrible:
- it works only in QArecord after I check the "Capture" checkbox.
-it doesn't work at all for Flash even if I Allow Flsh to use my mic
-it doesn't work at all for vmware player (I have a winxp guest os)
-in Skype for Linux it works only if I set Microphone boost to 100%, but the sound is too weak and distorted.
In alsa mixer I have enabled all 3 Capture sliders to 100%, the Mic is at 100%, Input sources are all 3 set up as Mic.
The microphone doesn't work at all for any application if I use FrontMic instead of Mic.
Being able to use the microphone in Skype and VMware player is very important to me and it's the only thing keeping me from using linux as my main OS.
Note: I have tried Slackware and I have the same issues there too.

Dec 13, 2009i just upgraded from Skype 2.0.0.72 to 2.1.047. Now my microphone isn't working anymore and i cannot select it in the skype options. From now on i can only select the PulseAudio server ..
So i have read some howtos for PulseAudio. They say i should starte PulseAudio Volume Control. ok.. Now i should go to the tab "Recording". This tab doesnt exist on my pc. I upgraded to the latest version of this volume control. It still doesnt exist.
I am using OpenSuse 11.0 with KDE4.3

Sep 15, 2010My audio and video used to work great in skype. Two days ago connected my laptop and TV, in order to use the TV as a second monitor, to watch a football match (I only have IPTV). Only thing I had to do was to go to System -> Preferences -> Sound and switch (in the hardware tab) my Internal Audio Hardware from Analog Stereo Duplex to Digital Stereo (HDMI) Output + Analog Stereo Input.
So after the match I switched it back to Analog Stereo Duplex and proceeded to skype with my girlfriend. Problem was, the mic stopped working. It works just fine in 'Input' tab of my sound preferences, as well as in sound recorder. She, in skype, heard nothing but static. Test call doesn't work either. Now I've done all the usual stuff, Skype isn't allowed to automatically adjust mixer levels and my mic is already boosted. I've reinstalled skype and everything. I'm running out of ideas.

Feb 21, 2011I am really struggling to get my the internal microphone on my iMac to function. I was able to get the sound working by installing ALSA Mixer and appending the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf file with [options snd-hda-intel model="imac24"]. Input is not muted. That file is attached.
My gnome-volume-control recognizes an 'Internal Audio Analog Stereo' device, but it picks up no sound. Here's the chip information: Realtek ALC889A.

I've checked my sound preferences, and my input isn't muted, and no matter what volume I put the input at, it won't pick anything up.

Jan 21, 2010I am using UNR 9.10
Sound recording from build-in mic was fine in skype and cheese after i installed UNR in my Acer Aspire One 110L in early December last year.
But somehow, i just realized that my sound recording was not functioning when i use skype this morning.
(i don't know since when this problem occur as i never use skype and cheese in past few weeks and i did update a few time from synaptic and install ubuntu-boot kernel)
just now i remove ubuntu-boot and reinstall the 2.6.31-17-generic kernel and run
sudo dpkg-reconfigure pulseaudio
but skype and cheese still does not record from build in microphone but only record from external microphone.
One weird thing is Sound recorder do record from both the build-in mic and external mic.
i tried "parec -r test.wav" and "parec -p test.wav" and it also record from both mic.
Anyone know how to configure my netbook so that the internal mic work on skype?

Jan 7, 2011I just installed Maverick on an Asus Seashell 1215T netbook with an AMD/ATI chipset. The sound output is working fine (with the exception that I have to manually set output to either speakers or headphones rather than just plugging in headphones), but neither the internal microphone nor external microphones plugged in through the mic jack work. I do have the sound device set to the internal sound (rather than HDMI) and the volume level set appropriately. Apparently neither microphone is being recognized. Any ideas on what could be wrong?Here is the relevant section from lspci -v:

Jun 3, 2011I run ubuntu 10.10 with an 870-g45 motherboard which contains a VIA VT1828S integrated sound chip with 8 audio channels as it states on [URL]... I am having issues with getting microphones to work properly on my computer. Sound output works great but microphones don't. I've noticed when I tested mic's on the sound configuration it would act like it gets input but it would be choppy or laggy sound. Anytime i talk to people on voice chat they say my voice sounds like it keeps clipping in and out and they can't understand a thing I say. I have tried looking on google but any fix I looked at didn't seem to work for me. I don't know if it's motherboard related

Aug 12, 2011For some time, my microphone input doesn't reach the recording application, but instead goes directly to the loudspeaker. If I make a sound in the microphone, it will go to the loudspeakers, and Audacity or Skype will not "hear" anything (and of course, with this set-up, there's a constant noise in the loudspeaker, coming from the microphone).This problem goes away if I install PulseAudio. So obviously, there's nothing broken with either of ALSA or hardware, only some misconfiguration somewhere, and PulseAudio can make a sense of the mess. Playing with all sorts of configurations in Alsamixer didn't help.
Unfortunately, I don't want PulseAudio, because it causes output problems which are a bit too subtle for me to describe coherently here. So I'd rather fix ALSA than Pulse.Please direct me into how to investigate this. The OS is Debian Unstable, the audio card is an integrated Intel ALC1200.

Feb 13, 2010I have Toshiba Qosmio G50 Laptop and I have recently installed Fedora 11 on it, dual booting with Windows Vista. The problem has to do with the internal microphone which works in Windows but NOT in Fedora.
I tried to record a sound but I can not hear my voice and I also made a test call using Skype and got the same result. I do not hear my voice at all. When I made a normal call nobody could hear me.
I have searched a lot in the net for a solution and I found that a lot of people say this has to do with pulse audio and they suggest to uninstall it. I do so but nothing happened.
The only change I noticed was that, in Skype Sound Options there were more options to choose for microphone and speakers (before there was only one - the pulse audio server). Whatever option I use I had the same results so I installed back pulse audio.

Feb 23, 2010I can not get my microphone to work in Ubuntu 9.10. It works fine on my windows 7 installation. I am using a Creative X-Fi Titanium sound card and everything works other than the mic. Instead of recording from the microphone, it simply plays the speaker output through the microphone to other people.
