Debian Installation :: No Automatic Boot UEFI Dell Latitude E6410

I just installed Debian jessie on my Dell Latitude E6410 using the UEFI install. No everything went well during the install, but after the install the first boot i ran into an issue that the laptop will not boot.
When I go in to the boot menu of the Dell Latitude E6410, I see that debian has created a uefi name (Debian)
When I select this, it boots without any issues. After again a reboot again, no luck still a black screen during the boot.
Seems that the only option to get my laptop booting is by pressing F12 and select Debian in the UEFI boot of the laptop.
Is there any way i can get my laptop to boot Debian directly from UEFI, without having to press F12?? (Also disabled all legacy devices to start up but no luck)...

- Dell Latitude E6410 i5 (1280x800 intel graphics) latest bios A16

I installed Ubuntu 9.04 on a Dell Latitude E6410 I have neither Ethernet connection or WIFI connection.
If I could figure out how to download the kernel source for ubuntu 9.04 then I can build the devices into the kernel and get them working.
Where can I find the source for Ubuntu 9.04, kernel 2.6.28-11-generic.
Also, there are names for the Ubuntu. How to figure out the name of my OS?
Note, I tried to install Ubuntu 10 but the screen was blank after I booted off the installation CD.

I'm trying to install OpenSuse 11.2 64bit on a new Dell Latitude E6410 notebook. This is the Intel i7 processor with 8 Gb of RAM and Nvidia NVS 3100M graphics. I can boot from my 64bit installer DVD, but once I choose either Live version, to test it out, or just go for Install, after the first selection screen where I can change the default video at the bottom, I just get a black screen, no video.
I can't find any info on installing Suse on this notebook, (I think its only be available for a couple of weeks now). What do I do to get the screen to show me the graphical installer, Or how do I make the KDE Live version run from the 64bit DVD. I also tried the 32bit version DVD, but it wouldn't give graphics either, so it seems like an X issue.

I have been unable to get both opensuse 11.2 and 11.3 32 bit versions work properly on my DELL Latitude E6410 laptop. With both 11.2 and 11.3 KDE Live CDs I get no graphical display when I attempt to boot into the Live system. VESA mode does not help either, only text mode works. So I installed the system in text mode but during the first boot the screen went blank again.
One peculiar thing is that 11.1 installs and boots fine, what gives? Is this even supported or I shouldn't even try to bother getting this setup to work? Has anyone been able to run opensuse 11.3 on a Core i7 integrated Intel graphics system with X system working?

The disc is fine I have installed using the CD on an Acer Laptop without any trouble what so ever. However now I need to install it on a Dell Latitude D505.It was detected and started the disc and show Ubuntu with the five dots loading screen. And then it goes black, with the laptop on. The menu with options like Install, defect test etc. can't be seen.In response to this I installed it inside Windows and that seemed to be ok, so I restarted the laptop and selected Ubuntu from the boot menu and does the dot loading screen and then black.I have searched Google and it is just threads that end up dead.

My Dell Latitude D820 had lenny installed and working fine. I did not have anything exotic installed (other than perhaps nividia drivers). I went about upgrading to squeeze following the notes/documentation on the debian web site. During this process it mentioned that the following firmware was not going to be installed (as it is not freeware; BTW I had non-free in my sources.list):

tigon/tg3.bin
On reboot it was clear that the new kernel was not in a healthy state. Even when booting with older kernels I had serious stability issues. After about half a dozen reboots trying to resolve problems I was experiencing the laptop would not even load the Dell splash screen on power up. I could not even navigate into the BIOS. Nothing appeared on the monitor (or external monitor).
I put an ISO disk in the DVD drive to see if it would boot from the DVD; it seems to load but absolutely nothing appeared on the screen. I tried navigating the grub menu (not displayed) and load my windows partition. When it booted to the point where windows would normally display the GUI it flashed several times and displayed a 'BSOD' with the following message:
*** Hardware Malfunction.
Call your hardware vendor for support
NMI: Parity Check / Memory Parity Error
*** The system has halted ***
It looks like my laptop is now FUBAR. It is out of warranty so any fix is likely to be DIY. Any ideas on how to resolve this?

I'm trying to start using Debian Squeeze 64b on my laptop, which is Dell Latitude D830 with Intel i965GM.
After Debian installation, when system should display some nice background and window which please me to log in, I see my screen gets blank, fuzzy, blank again, ...and after several times finaly all hangs. Surprisingly mouse pointer is displayed nicely and works. I can't use network on Debian becouse of windows authorization program which i can run in wine on KDE. This works on Kubuntu.
What I did already:
I installed KUBUNTU 10.04 LTS and it's doing job well.
I installed Debian Squeeze with options:
- enabled:base system, laptop
- disabled:graphical environment
After instalation I logged in on root account and did:
1. aptitude install xserver-xorg xbase-clients xfonts-base xterm
2. aptitude install kdebase kde-i18n-pl
3. aptitude install kdm
4. reboot
5. problem occurs
@2: Googling everywhere i found several installation guides pointing to instal pure KDE by installing kde-core package, but it seems Squeeze does not have it.
@3: Unfortunately this command did not install nor update anything.
All I want to do is to install pure Debian with xorg and kde core (not full kde package) for later customization.
I tried to:
- generate xorg.conf (X -configure) and place it at /etc/X11/
- use xorg.conf working for other people in web.
- dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
- googling & forum search for my specific problem and for errors found in syslog; with no working solution.

I am trying to put FC12 on a new Dell E6410 (laptop) with video "00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Device 0046 (rev 02)". I used the Live disk and successfully installed, but then I updated. Thereafter when I boot I get a black screen. I cannot even get to the login.
Unfortunately I really do not know where to start to try to trouble shoot. (I can get into run level 3 on the latest kernel). Also the issue seems to come about from kernel 2.6.31.5 to kernel 2.6.32.12 since the blank screen issue does not arise in the former. For now I switched the order of these kernel in GRUB so the older one boots first and this seems to work.
Although the blank screen is my most pressing issue, I am having others too (synaptic mouse, wifi, suspend, internal camera). Well, hopefully once I can run the newest kernel these issue will disappear.

I have Acer Aspire S7-392. It has two 128GB SSD drives. They are using RAID 0. Currently there is Windows 8.1 installed on the RAID 0 drive.I am trying to install Debian 7.6 (wheezy) alongside Win 8.1 (dual boot). Actually I have already created linux partitions and installed mentioned Debian on my computer. I had to skip grub installation due to fatal error that had occurred. (Everything on existing RAID 0 volume).Now I am looking the way to install grub and boot Debian. I have disabled UEFI Secure Boot. It didn't work.
My question is:
1. Is it possible to have Win 8.1 and Debian dual-bootable on the same RAID 0 volume? How to install grub and boot debian?
2. If not, what am I supposed to do to achieve what I want (these two systems on one computer)? Delete old one RAID 0 and create two new: one for windows and one for linux partitions?

I have a server in which I'm trying to install Debian into. There's no BIOS, only EFI boot. The vendor locked it down so there's no way to see it or get into it.
The Wheezy 7.8 netinst CD has EFI boot parameters and works on everything I throw it in, except this one server. Booting it up, the code doesn't see the EFI and boots into normal mode, negating every chance to install it (dozens upon dozens of failed installs).
During boot, I press the [TAB] at the Debian Linux installer menu and get the load parameters (/install.amd/vmlinuz vga=788 etc). What parameter can I add to this line to get it to run in UEFI mode so we can install it?

I have Debian installed but I need to dual boot with distribution based on Ubuntu 14.04. This is my first UEFI dual boot install attempt. And I must do it right. I must not lose my Debian !

Ubuntu will go to /dev/sdb5 but I don`t no for sure what to do when installing Ubuntu. How to select during install existing UEFI partition(/dev/sdb1) so Debian and Ubuntu can use it. Can I select existing UEFI partition like I would do for /home or /swap ? Will this work ?
And what will happen with Grub if I select install grub ? I want to manage grub from Debian, it is my main OS. Can I skip Grub install and just update grub on my debian after ubuntu install ? Or I just install grub, then after completed Ubuntu install I install it again from Debian. Will this work ?
Is procedure of installing dual boot trivial like before or UEFI hide`s some unpleasant surprise.

I'll start off with stating my problem and summarize how I got to it.
I installed Windows 10 on an SSD. I installed Debian 8.2 after it. The SSD was/is a GPT disk. I installed both installations from a UEFI booted device (DVD for Windows, and USB drive with Live CD for Debian).
I tested it after each installation making sure I could boot via UEFI into Windows, then Debian, then Windows, to make sure nothing broke.
I rebooted the machine. Suddenly, no more UEFI. Nothing. I didn't change any BIOS/UEFI setup menu settings. Not even my USB drive with Live CD will boot through UEFI anymore. Even when nothing else is plugged into the system.
My situation is actually a bit more complicated than that, but I think that will suffice for now. I can still boot into the Live CD on the USB drive, just in Legacy mode only. I mounted the EFI partition on /mnt/boot after I mounted the file system for Debian on /mnt. It is identical, as far as I can tell, to as it was before when it was working.
My motherboard has CSM and Secure Boot, both have been set up how they need to be to boot UEFI into Debian. Tinkering with them further after things broke did not fix it. I tried all variations of options/settings.
The GRUB Reinstall guide says to be in EFI mode before starting it, so I can't do that.
My motherboard is an ASUS X99 Deluxe, and I've heard ASUS has special "features" (read: bugs) that come with their boards. Searching hasn't brought up any other people with this issue. I believe the firmware is updated to it's most current one.
I've tried dd-ing my backup of my old system, from before trying to migrate to a Dual Boot system, to the SSD (after backing up the dual boot setup with dd -> <name>.img via the Live CD USB). However, that won't boot either as it is a UEFI install as well.
The layout of my EFI partition is as such:
/boot/EFI/Boot/bootx64.efi
/boot/EFI/Microsoft/<Microsoft-naming>.efi
/boot/EFI/debian/grubx64.efi
I've heard that the standards on how that's supposed to be set up isn't a standard. However, since it worked booting into the OS' the first time, I don't see how that could be the issue (a bad hierarchy layout leading to the UEFI not being able to see the OS installs).
I've seen that I can boot to an EFI shell (called Shell.efi, apparently) via an option in my UEFI BIOS setup menu on my motherboard. Is that an option here to somehow bypass this strange issue?
All I can think to try is burn it all and start over. But not knowing what caused it means I could just make it happen again. Plus, I can't boot into UEFI install media, so I can't install UEFI boot OS'. :/

My Toshiba Satellite C870-198 has Debian 7.7 installed in UEFI mode alongside Windows 8.1. The GRUB menu no longer displays, but the machine boots straight into Windows.
I can boot into Debian or Windows from rEFInd installed on a USB stick. The rEFInd menu has the following entries:
The Debian entry actually launches the GRUB menu which was installed with Debian.
Code: Select allBoot Microsoft EFI boot (Boot Repair backup) from Basic data partition.
Boot supposed Microsoft EFI boot (probably GRUB) from Basic data partition.
Boot EFIubuntugrubx64.efi from Basic data partition.

The laptop came with Windows 8 preinstalled. I switched off Secure Boot and installed Ubuntu for UEFI dual boot. I recall having to use Boot Repair to get the GRUB boot manager working properly for both systems.
Recently I decided to replace Ubuntu with Debian 7.7 and first cloned the entire hard drive to a USB drive (The Clone Drive). This drive successfully boots into Ubuntu in UEFI mode.
Following this I took the opportunity to update Windows to 8.1, which broke GRUB as expected, so that the machine would only boot straight into Windows.
I installed Debian from a live USB stick in the mistaken belief that it would be bootable in UEFI mode. It did boot OK in legacy mode.
I then burned the full Debian 'DVD' image to a USB stick, booted it in UEFI mode and reinstalled Debian. In UEFI mode GRUB allowed me to boot into both Debian and Windows.
At this point I tested The Clone Drive. It was still able to boot into Ubuntu as previously, but after powering down, unplugging The Clone Drive and rebooting, the GRUB menu failed to appear and the machine booted straight into Windows. This is its current state.

I installed Debian Jessie (netinst, daily snapshot) on my Acer Aspire V5-123 laptop in the UEFI mode with the secure boot turned off. everything (network, hardware, partitioning, ...) went smoothly to the last step, but after removing the boot media (USB stick) and rebooting, the firmware could not find the boot device ! The only thing I can think of, is that the EFI boot is not set up properly by Debian installer, but I don't know how to fix it.

I've set up a dual boot system with Debian and Windows 8, both installed on their own drive, with their own boot partition. I installed eveything in UEFI-Mode with fast- and secure boot turned off. Both installations are working, as I can access them by changing the boot priority in the Bios. What I cannot achieve is to let grub boot my windows installation.

I have installed Debian Jessie 8.0.3 64-bit net install on an IBM ThinkCentre. I have earlier had a dual boot Win 8 and Ubuntu 14.04 installed on the computer. When I installed Debian Jessie, I deleted the Ubuntu partitions and created new partitions from the free space. The install went fine and the Debian EFI/UEFI version of Grub was installed, but clearly at some other place, as when I boot the system, the old Ubuntu Grub pops up and of course cannot find the necessary files that it is looking for.

I opened a bug for this one in December, but it's not getting much attention as yet, so I thought maybe the crew here could take a whack at it. Here's the text, slightly modified with minor clarifying updates.
Description of problem: When booting from CD burned with Fedora-14-x86_64-netinst.iso, grub starts but when handing off to kernel, text appears in upper left corner of screen and system locks up, requiring power-off to be performed to return functionality.
In testing, grub itself has always worked without visible flaw, and the various built-in functions are accessible (menu editing, command line, etc.). It's just once tries to go any further that it breaks.

I appear to have the exact problem that is currently listed in the 7.6 errata about EFI boot and black screen while trying to install ("Potential issues with UEFI booting on amd64"). The problem is that their workaround is not an option for me. This is a new rig and the motherboard doesn't appear to have any kind of ability to disable secure boot. I also don't know if my problem is exactly what they're thinking when it comes to that entry.
I'm able to get to the Grub install screen where you have the option to install Debian but when I select an option (any option) the screen turns off, back on but is black. All activity in the system stops after a few seconds (3-5 seconds) and that's it, she's done. I've tried all the options to try and disable secure boot but the options listed below are as close as I can get (and apparently should be sufficient).
The CD ISO used was the 7.6 netinst CD. I've also tried the Jessie ISO (Testing) that was downloaded about 2 hours ago. Same results. Unlike the errata which says "intermittent booting problems", my issue is consistently reproduced with no other result no matter what I do.
The rig:
-Asus H97-Plus running revision 2202
-Intel i5-4570
-32GB DDR3-1600
-128GB SSD Drive
-No external video card - using on board only but have tried both VGA and HDMI ports with the same result.
BIOS settings (is it still called BIOS or is it UEFI now?)
-Fast Boot: Disabled
-Launch CSM: Enabled
-Boot Device Control: "Legacy OPROM Only" or "UEFI and Legacy OPROM" (tried both)
-Secure Boot State: Enabled (it's grayed out and I'm unable to change this)
-OS Type: Other OS (supposedly makes it so you can boot non-Windows OS)

I've installed Debian on a Dell Latitude C600 and I've managed to get all of the hardware functioning except the WiFi adapter. The laptop is using a Netgear WG511v2 PCMCIA interface. I've extracted the WG511v2.INF and WG511v2XP.SYS files and I believe they are successfully installed using NDISWRAPPER.
The WiFi adapter's green LED flickers and the yellow LED periodically flashes, which would seem to indicate that the adapter is attempting to connect to a network.
I believe the problem that I'm having is related to configuring the wlan0 interface with the proper security credentials to attach to the WiFi network. I'm using WPA2 with AES for encrypting. The key is 64 hexadecimal characters.
how to configure the wlan0 interface with the proper security credentials. The Network Manager applet only offers WPA2 Personal as a configuration option.

this is my first post sorry if im not clear OK i downloaded Ubuntu 9.1 32bit burned it to a CD and popped it in my dell latitude c600 i was going to set it up to dual boot with xp i already have 2 partions so every thing was ready
i hit install and saw a Ubuntu symbol fading in and out after that i got a whole heap of i/o errors ranging from 350 to 500 for the first number, then a bit later it loaded up the busy cursor for Ubuntu on a black screen it then changed to a cross outline and no matter how long i let i go for i do not change at all off that the disc isn't the problem because it works on my desk top live and install

Ethernet is not detected with the following setup:
OS: Debian Lenny
Laptop: Dell Latitude D600
Ethernet adapter: Broadcom 57xx Gigabit Integrated Controller
Wifi adapter: Broadcom BCM4309 802.11a/b/g
Have done the following troubleshooting suggestions from around the www:
LAN controller is enabled in BIOS
dmesg | grep eth0 returns nothing
lspci -v | grep -i net shows wifi adapter but no ethernet adapter
ifconfig -a does not show eth0
ifconfig eth0 up confirms ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device
Have done lsmod, but not sure what I should be looking for.
I would post lspci, dmesg or any other output, but as the adapter is not being detected, I have no network/internet connection from that laptop, have only one other Windows based (at this stage) laptop that I am using to write this message, and so would have to type out the output manually.Adapter indicators are both on when laptop is powered up. Am unsure if the ethernet adapter has somehow gone to sleep, and if so, unsure how to wake it.Perhaps the ethernet adapter is defective, but am hoping to confirm this before looking for a workaround/replacement.

I've installed ubuntu 10.04 onto my Dell Latitude e6510 (through the wubi installer), but I can't get anything except a black screen. I'm pretty new to ubuntu, but after a bit of looking around at graphics issues I found a bunch of boot parameters and tried different combinations of them. i915.modeset=0 Gave me the purple loading screen, until the screen went black and I got flashing caps lock and scroll lock lights.xforcevesa gave me a completely black screen -- not receiving power at all
I also tried noapci, acpi=off, irqpoll, and pci=routeirq as parameters. None of those had any success.I've also tried letting ubuntu boot with a black screen until I heard the African drums and pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1 to go into the console, but the screen stayed black then as well.

Just did a fresh install of F12 on the D600, and a couple of problems. The network was working during the install, but after does not see ethernet nor wireless.
The only straying I did from a default install was to manually create partitions, making one for swap and the rest is / on ext4. Seemed fine installing and booting.
Also the touchpad and mouse settings are messed up, buttons reversed, click events from the touchpad showing "clickdown" but not acting as if the click was released.
ONE BIG COMPLAINT: I see selinux doesn't come with an easy way to disable. How is it disabled with F12?
For now I'm in a hurry, so I'm going back to F11 - past OS installing and booting ok include Ubuntu 8.04, 9.10, F5, F7, F9, F10 and XP to name a few.

I'm trying to install the magnificent ubuntu 10.10 on my brand new Dell LATITUDE E5510. The installation works fine. I installed it with a working internet connexion ... so the drivers should be there. Then when booting, the GUI does not start I get the console instead...
I tried several things:
- run startx --> I get a blank screen where even CTRL+ALT+F1 does not work anymore

sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
--> just returns without anything on the screen, no error no nothing
- run in failsafeX mode, I get:
Ubuntu is running in low graphics mode. Your screen, graphics card, and input device settings could not be detected correctly. You will need to configure them yourself.
Then I get the login page but it doesn't go any further, when I type my login/password it comes back to the login page...
When I do:

I get :
VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev02)
That's all I could see... apart from that I'm not getting any error messages and I'm really stuck.. I'm running on intel Celeron 32 bit, I have checked the checksum of my CD...

I've recently bought a Dell Latitude E4310 off ebay. Wifi chipset is Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6200 AGN. I'm using Debian 8.2 with Gnome 3 and I've installed firmware-iwlwifi.
Wifi shows up in Gnome upper bar, it correctly scans the networks and seems to connect successfully to my home router but internet doesn't work, it doesn't seem able to load any page.
