Debian Hardware :: Change Mouse Resolution DPI?

Dec 30, 2010

I just bought a Logitech 570 trackball. I feel as though the resolution may be set a little low. How do I change mouse resolution under Linux? I do have lomoco btw, but when I use the command lomoco -8 it says the device does not support writing a new resolution to it. Basically wondering if theres a text file somewhere where I can just change the default mouse resolution.

OpenSUSE :: KDE Mouse Pointer Disappears On Resolution Change / Fix It?

Mar 2, 2010

I installed Suse 11.2 recently, and i have my laptop hooked up to a HD monitor.
When i choose the HD monitor, if the resolution is low, lets say 1280x800, same as my laptop, its fine. I see the mouse pointer.

But as soon as i change the resolution to 1920x1080, the pointer disappears. Mouse functionality works allright. Right click/left click works fine, and i can see the buttons getting highlighted on mouse-ever.
But the pointer is gone.

Debian Hardware :: Cannot Change Monitor Resolution

Jan 27, 2015

I have a fresh installation of Debian 7.8 on my Dell Precision notebook. Somehow I failed to configure Xorg in a proper way. I do have X up and running, but I can not change my monitor resolution. Here is my graphics card.

I tried to follow suggestions from Debian Wiki, somehow nothing really worked (https://wiki.debian.org/AtiHowTo)

Debian :: How To Change TTY Resolution Ctrl Alt F1 Black Screen

Nov 18, 2015

Now that I'm more lucid I can adjust the format a bit. If I try opening the TTY the screen goes completely black after visualizing few artifact on the bottom of the screen.

Pressing Ctrl+Alt+F7 brings me back safely to the GUI

So far I tried to modify the /etc/defaults/grub file to uncomment the grub resolution and the grub_terminal to no avail. Now at least it seams to waste some less time to load the grub (it took something like 15 sec before) but it lost the previous green/torquoise background and now it's white char on black background.

On a side note pressing C on the grub to reach the grub console gave me some answer I don't know how to deal with... I was trying to use vbeinfo but it didn't found the command and so I tried the insmod:

Photo(large) of the complete grub console session wrote:grub>

Debian :: Lenny Xfce On Virtualbox - Can't Change Resolution

Mar 11, 2010

Well I have installed lenny from netinstall, with Xfce on a virtual machine, everything runs smooth and I really like how does it work, I just have a little big problem, the resolution is too high, it is higher than the host resolution, if I have to work in the down part of the screen I have to scroll down in host, it is kinda annoying, under screen config (right click>configuration>screen config) for resolution only the default option is available. I have googled and I have found that /etc/X11/xorg.conf must be modified to use another resolution, but I'm not sure of what to change or what to do exactly.

Debian Hardware :: Can't Change Resolution Or Set Dual Display

Jul 4, 2014

I have wheezy installed on my laptop with XFCE 4.8 and kernel 3.14 from backports. The laptop uses Nivida-optimus:

Code: Select all00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Haswell Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 06)
01:00.0 3D controller: NVIDIA Corporation Device 1292 (rev a1)

I installed the proprietary bumblebee-nvidia (version 3.2.1) as per the instructions in URL...The problem is that when I connect a monitor to the laptop, the image is duplicated with only part of the screen showing on the second monitor. The monitor itself is not detected in the display settings or arandr / xrandr, so I can't change the resolution or set dual display, etc. Here is the output of xrandr:

Debian :: Change Mouse Cursor Size?

Jun 20, 2011

I have been trying for quite some days to change the size and theme of the cursor . I was expecting that there be something in preferences in GNOME v2 but is not there (Is there some enhancement there in GNOME v3?) Anyways, after googling quite a bit, I came across a tip to change the the cursor theme. sudo update-alternatives --config x-cursor-theme The thing to do here is choose some alternative theme and logout and login back.

[Code].....

Press enter to keep the current choice[*], or type selection number: I haven't been able to find how to change cursor sizes as well and what the current size is? I did find another command xrdb -query but that also doesn't seem to be much helpful either :-

Debian 8 GNOME

Also (a bit unrelated) could a video card problem cause a user to log out? I have been having some severe problems with my monitor and I am thinking it is th video card. Sometimes when I am starting a program my monitor will lose connection to my computer (HDMI signal not found) and I will either have to wait a few seconds and it will turn on or it will just stay blacked out.

Preferences -> Monitor Settings (lxrandr) does not change anything & does not show my desired resolution either. Im running Ubuntu and I recently installed driver for my HD5700 Radeon and been having problems with the display I changed the resolution and now my mouse has disapeared at least I think it was after I changed the resolution. THe thing changing the resolution solved my other problem which was the text was blury or faded. What do I do to fix this how could it just disapear . When I right click the drop down menu does appear but there is no point. I can still open programs up but its seriousy frustrating.

OK so I just went into the terminal and typed compiz it returned: Xgl not present Xset q doesn't revel the location of the log file using fallback /var/log/Xorg.0.log Detected PCI ID for VGA Flags: bus master, VGA palette snoop,66MHZ, medium devsel, latency 64

Slackware :: No Mouse Pointer After Changing Display Resolution In KDE?

Feb 16, 2010

after successfully installing Slackware 13, I immediately installed other packages mainly to solve display/freezing issues(see below), I noticed that every time I try to change the display resolution - both from the 'system -> system settings' and from the "plasmoid" -

my mouse cursor would disappear.

now I know it's on the pointer, and not the mouse - I can move the mouse and see "mouse-over" activity, and based on seeing this, even clicking(both left and right) still has effect. In fact, if I were patient enough, I could navigate through my desktop.

note:

I have a Intel 82865g integrated graphics controller, had issues after installing, so I upgraded to the 2.6.32.3 kernel and installed:

fx86-video-intel-2.9.0
libdrm ? 17 ?

Ubuntu :: Mouse Pointer Vanishing When Changing Screen Resolution

Jun 28, 2010

I've installed Ubuntu 10.04 on an old PC with an Intel 845 series motherboard, using an onboard graphics solution. By default, it boots with an 800x600 screen resolution. When I change the resolution to 1024x768, the resolution switches perfectly, but the mouse pointer disappears. The mouse can still be USED, but I have to 'guess' where the pointer is. The only way I have found to rectify the situation is to reboot, upon which the resolution returns to 800x600 again as well. Kubuntu 10.04 suffers from the same problem, only in Kubuntu the mouse pointer reappears when the resolution switches back to 800x600, so I don't need to reboot.

Ubuntu :: Mouse Cursor Doesn't Display After Login With High Resolution / Fix It?

Aug 12, 2010

Version: Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop

Problem:
When I change the resolution higher (e.g. 1920x1080),
mouse cursor disappear, until I open the terminal / Ctrl+Alt+F1 (~F6), or run other applications.
But the main problem is, every time after login, the cursor will disappear
(as I know that, before the login, the resolution is 800x600 60Hz, after login, the resolution will be adjusted according to the setting)
So, anyone know how to fix this problem?

I have searched many related posts before,
some of them told me to upgrade the driver, but it didn't help and become worse (cannot boot up, need to re-install ubuntu)
and some of them told me to modify the xorg file, it didn't help, too. (as xorg.conf doesn't exist and I have tried to create one to do the modification, but didn't help)
Any other solution?

Ubuntu :: How To Change Tty Resolution

Mar 21, 2010

Ok, I'm sick of Grub2. It's a total mess that is needlessly complicated in the worst fashion imaginable. (Yes, I've read https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2, it doesn't help.) I can't understand Grub2 developers thinking (maybe they're aliens?) and, quite frankly, I just don't care anymore. how to change resolution for textmode terminals (tty1, tty2, ...)? I don't want to read any more [censored] about gfxpayload and how it's supposed to work. Please don't respond if you can't provide an example config that simply just works.

[Edit/SOLVED]: No longer an issue in Lucid Lynx for me. See this HOWTO. Note that 1280x1024 isn't the only option. You can use any resolution supported by VBE of your video card. Use vbeinfo command in Grub shell to see the list of available display modes.

Red Hat / Fedora :: Cannot Change Resolution Above 640 X 320?

May 30, 2011

I am running Fedora Core 10 x64-bit. My video card is Quadro NVS 285 and the driver installed correctly. However I cannot change resolution above 640 x 320. Even adding resolutions higher than 640 x 320 such as 1600 x 1200 does not work so I created a new xorg.conf with the nvidia tool

Below is my xorg.conf file:

# nvidia-xconfig: X configuration file generated by nvidia-xconfig

Section "ServerLayout"

My monitor is a Priceton Graphics VF912. I cannot find ANY information on this monitor on the internet as far as its Horizontal Sync and Refresh Rate. I know it is capable of at least 60 Hz because I have an identical one attached to my windows machine.

Someone please help. I have tried everything: running the xconfigurator tool, the nvidia xconfig tool, maually editing the xorg.conf and adding the resolutions myself and nothing works. Also xranr does not detect my monitor's capability correctly either. My system is an HP xw4300 with all stock parts except hard drive which is 500 gb sata. I've found many ways to do it, but nothing can fix my problem. 1.If you configure your monitor in the KDE Control center under peripherals you may be able to fix this problem. There are two items in peripherals, mouse and keyboard. I don't see anything about resolution.

I can simply do it like this in KDE 3.4: right click the desktop, choose "configure desktop", then "display", then choose one of the resolutions in the dropdown menu. I see configure desktop, but there is no "display" item**you could change settings in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file. There is no xorg.conf file in that folder.
