I have a Dell XPS 17 L702X running vanilla Wheezy. The laptop has 3 special soft touch keys above the keyboard. Using Dell software in Windows you can configure these for whatever, but in Debian/Linux they share the same functions as keyboard keys.
Key 1 -> Super_L Q
Key 2 -> Brightness Down
Key 3 -> Doesn't seem to do anything and xev doesn't report any key codes
Apparently other XPS models have similar keys with the same problem. It's not a show stopper but it would be nice to have them working.
I have a Logitech K830 wireless 'Living Room' keyboard for general use under Debian/Gnome. The function keys (F1-F12) operate in conjunction with the FN key. Various multimedia options are alternately available by pressing the function keys (F1-F12) without the FN key.
I want to make the function keys primary (not requiring FN). 'xmodmap -e "keycode 172 = F11"' reassigns F11 as expected, but xev reveals multicode output for some keys that I cannot similarly remap. The (de-tabulated) table shows xev output for press-events. Single F(n) keycodes are followed by the equivalent multimedia keycodes (e.g. F2[+FN] key is also 'Minimize window'[without FN]).

I'm running Debian (Squeeze) and I have a toshiba portege m700. It has five buttons on the front just under the screen, which are the only ones accessible when you flip the screen over into tablet mode. One of them is for rotating the screen, and another is for switching to external display. I want to remap the remaining three to control, alt and super so that I can use shortcuts with the stylusThe problem is, when I used showkey to find out the key codes, I found out that each button generates more than one key code:Button 1:
key 126 press >> super_r, although this is distinct from the actual super key (125) key 7 press >> 6 key 7 release key 126 release
I just ran my first Lubuntu session using a USB SD card install. Not bad overall.I would like to re-map two keys on my netbook to make this Lubuntu usable.I have learned that these two apps are the way to go.xevxmodmap Are they built into Linux? If they are, how do I run them? How do I get to a command line to run them once Lubuntu has loaded and I'm at the main screen?
I've just upgraded my installed software packages to last version of Lucid and noticed a weird issue: my keyboard keys are all messed up. Although my keyboard layout is still US-105 keys, when I press (for instance) "asdfg", I get "abfhj" and for "ASDFG" I get "1a1b1f1h1j" !? This only happens when I am logged as user in a X session. Root sessions are OK
When a user that has rsa public key set in ~/.ssh/authorized_keys file logs in via ssh an sshd process is started to handle the ssh session.Periodically we audit the authorized keys and remove them from the system and authorized_keys file. This means the next log in attempt will fail, which is fine. However we need to terminate current ssh sessions in progress that use the rsa key.I have not been able to determine a way to map sshd processes with authorized_keys entries.
I'm trying to get the special keys on my bluetooth keyboard (Dell Y-RAQ-DEL2, which came with my Dell Inspiron 530) to work under Ubuntu (10.04). Specifically things like the calculator button, volume knob etc.
I've tried various keyboard mapping in the Preferences > Keyboard menu, but the system doesn't seem to be able to "see" any of these special keys.
First off I'm on Ubuntu 10.10 and I use Amarok as my main media player. My question is this: I have hot keys for forwards skip, play, pause and backwards skip on my laptop and I was wondering how I set them to work for Amarok.
I have installed Fedora12 on Dell Inspiron laptop. Here are my key details of my laptop.
<Fn + F4 > ---- For decreasing Brightness <Fn + F5 > ---- For increasing Brightness <Fn + F2 > ---- To enable Bluetooth
I am able to enable bluetooth by pressing <Fn + F2>, But I am not able to increase OR decrease brightness of my laptop screen.I have attached keymap of my laptop by the output of
Code: xmodmap -pke Please find the attachment keymap.txt.
I want to install tomcat so i followed the steps mentioned in below link: [URL] After going through the steps i checked for
Code:
./startup.sh
but it showed me the error
Code:
touch: cannot touch `/usr/share/apache-tomcat-6.0.32-src/logs/catalina.out': No such file or directory /usr/share/apache-tomcat-6.0.32-src/bin/catalina.sh: line 372: /usr/share/apache-tomcat-6.0.32-src/logs/catalina.out: No such file or directory
when i went through my "/usr/share/apache-tomcat-6.0.32-src/" there was no "logs" folder so i tried
Code:
find / -name catalina.out
but it returned nothing.BTW i have installed "apache-tomcat-6.0.32-src", "java-1.6.0". Please if any one could look into the problem and provide me the solution to error mentioned above and why there is no "logs" directory in "/usr/share/apache-tomcat-6.0.32-src/".
I've some how managed to map to a shared drive on my Synology NAS, but can only access it through the terminal when logged in as root. The share is mounted in the "mnt" directory, which I can't access when using the file manager application (as a user).
Update: so I carried out the actions below and I can no see the share in my home directory, but can't access it. Is this because I done it with root? root@D8:/home/user# mkdir share_nas root@D8:/home/user# ls Desktop Downloads Picturesshare_nas Videos Documents Music PublicTemplates root@D8:/home/user# mount 192.168.0.2:/volume1/NAS_share /home/user/share_nas
I would like to use as much FOSS as possible, particularly with touch screen computers. Is it possible to run Ubuntu with touch and/or multi touch capabilities? If so, will an HP Touch Smart computer run Ubuntu? I would very much like to purchase said machine via Linux Foundation discounts if this is the case.
I am trying to map a URL to a file system location.According to official documentation at [URL] under 'Files Outside the DocumentRoot', it says:On Unix systems, symbolic links can bring other parts of the filesystem under the DocumentRoot. For security reasons, Apache will follow symbolic links only if the Options setting for the relevant directory includes FollowSymLinks or SymLinksIfOwnerMatch.
trying all sorts of xorg.conf settings and searching out drivers. Out of the box, Debian moves the cursor when I touch the screen and move my finger across it. The only problem is that it doesn't process it correctly. It is moving faster, so it doesn't stay under it. It also doesn't land under my finger when I touch the screen.I am running a Panasonic Toughbook CF-29.Driver I am trying: evtouchHere is my current xorg.conf: Code: # xorg.conf (X.Org X Window System server
configuration file) # # This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using # values from the debconf database. # # Edit this file with caution, and see the xorg.conf manual page.
I don't know if this is a configuration issue or a hardware issue, but I have a Kinesis Advantage USB keyboard and for some reason the F3-F5 keys aren't responding as they used to. They don't respond to anything and, when I tried using F5 on Emacs, it said <XF86AudioNext> is undefined, so I guess it's a weird mapping problem.
Any idea how I could remap them to the original meaning?
I am running Debian Lenny with xfce4. I just bought a used iPod Touch (1st gen) yesterday (4/8/10). Dropbox works great, easy way to transfer files. My yahoo mail account also works very well.
Gtkpod works great with my iPod Shuffle, but does not seem to work with the iTouch. My PC does not seem to automatically mount the iTouch. Any thoughts on iFuse, or Floola? Or would I be better off trying to run iTunes under Wine?
I have an XP laptop with iTunes installed, maybe I should just use that to sync music, and my Yahoo contacts? I would also like to sync to my yahoo calendar, but I know of no way to that - maybe I could sync my yahoo calendar to google calendar, and use Floola to sync to the iTouch?
This is not a programming question and this is why I am asking it here.I tested the program "dc" for cursor keys behaviour keys and the system responded by printing strange "^[[A" to the screen instead of doing what cursor keys should do. I am thinking that, I have some package missing that is making interactive CLI programs to misprint characters to the screen.Does anyone know what I need to install, because I must assume, programs in Stable must behave properly.
For some reason I can't use my sound hot keys (Mute=FN+F9 - Down=FN+F10 - Up=FN+F12) in Lenny LXDE but I can use them in GNOME my computer sucks so I can't use GNOME.
I have two computers running Debian Squeeze. I'm trying to set up the public keys for them so that I don't need to use passwords to log in. As far as I know, I did the same thing for both, however only one is working. Here is the connection output for eachBroken:
Code: OpenSSH_5.1p1 Debian-5+b1, OpenSSL 0.9.8g 19 Oct 2007 debug1: Reading configuration data /etc/ssh/ssh_config
I want to remap my keys for a game I'm playing, for example WASD instead of arrows to walk, r, f, c to act like f1, f2, f3 and so on. I'm aware of xmodmap, but I want to do this just for one application and be able to use hotkey to toggle between this script and default setting. I've been trying to use AutoKey, but I cannot force it to work just for specific app. On windows solution is AutoHotKey, but it won't work through wine.
When I first install debian I couldn't change the screen brightness at all not manually nor with function keys, but I tried some of the solutions I found on the internet and now I can change the brightness manually (from the power management or the battery icon) but when I use the function keys it takes them like 2 to 3 minutes to respond and cause the system to hang (even mouse curser not responding) and then I'm forced to manually reboot the system, here is some information :
Code: Select all$ ls /sys/class/backlight/ acpi_video0 intel_backlight
Code: Select all$cat /etc/default/grub # If you change this file, run 'update-grub' afterwards to update # /boot/grub/grub.cfg. # For full documentation of the options in this file, see: # info -f grub -n 'Simple configuration'
I got Sun Type 5 Unix keyboard which uses mindin-8 connector, attached to a PC through a special adapter which converts it to USB. The keyboard's distinctive features are Control key in the middle row (swapped with Caps Lock which makes it a Unix layout - much more comfortable for the pinky) plus a whole bunch of extra Sun keys, including such useful ones as "Copy", "Paste", and volume control. (Sun Type 5 keyboard has very good feeling to its keys, much better than Type 7 one). Those extra keys work as expected with this adapter in Gnome on OpenIndiana (OpenSolaris previously), but aren't supported out of the box on Debian. Looking around I didn't find any good up to date tutorial how to enable them on Debian or any other Linux. Did anyone try to do it?
I'm trying to install Debian on Dell XPS L501, and there are lots of problems...
1- Resolution is 800x600! I guess, I need to add that there is no xorg.conf file, and I couldn't create it by running `Xorg -configure`. It said the number of screens didn't match number of detected devices or something like that! I'd be really happy if this gets solved!
2- Ctrl+Alt+F1/2/3/4/... doesn't work! Sometimes Alt+Directional keys works. but most of the time it doesn't!
3- I can't get the loud speakers to work, and I couldn't compile Alsa from source... I'll try again, but does anyone know if there is a specific package I need to install to get them to work? (Realtek ID 665)
4- Keys are not working right... Function keys don't work... But the worse thing, is that if let's say Fn+F2 is supposed to disable wireless, F2 does!
I'm a Debian testing user (not an experienced one) on laptop Dell Latitude D531 and has encountered a problem: I've often got my laptop slowed down very much and the message appears in a console: Disabling IRQ #19 I've searched for the solution, but failed finding the answer.
dmesg showed:
