Debian Configuration :: Domainname Locally Unreachable ?

I have a strange problem with my debian lenny server. I am running ispconfig 3, squirrelmail, webmin, clamav, etc on my lenny server. I have a few domain names binded to my ip adress. Until yesterday, everything worked fine. Today, i couldn't seem to reach my mailbox, and my website appeared to be offline. But when someone checks it from outside, it works fine! Only i cant reach it. This problem only occurs with one of the six domainnames i have. The rest is reachable for me.
I checked the logs, the ipadresses, everything seems fine. I have no clue what it could be... anyone suggestions?
Figured out the problem, party... it's a problem with my XP. If i boot in Windows 7 the site is reachable. Doesn't make sense tho.

My primary repos are DVD .isos on my hard drive loop-mounted in /etc/fstab. Although I can install packages just fine and there are no issues with running installed applications, I must have screwed up the configuration of /etc/apt/sources.list because I get this output when I do apt-get update:

Gnome comes with Vino Remote Desktop as part of it's package. I want Vino to run at boot so that I can login remotely. I am using VNC-4.1.3 for remote viewing. However, I can only view remotely once I have logged-in locally.

I have a problem with the Fedora 12 Network Manager - OpenVPN configuration. If I use the same configuration and manually start openvpn (as client) I get connected to the OpenVPN server and I can ping the network that I am accessing. With Network Manager - I get connected but when I try to ping is giving me "Destination host unreachable". The routing table looks similar except that when connecting with network manager is giving me on more route in table

I have the following problem and tried (almost) anything to fix it but without a full success.
We're running a server with CentOS 5.4. Every night a logwatch report is send. These mails are rejected by our mailserver because some invalid details. These mails are send to local user root which is redirected to another external mail address with /etc/aliases.
At first the mail was send from root@localhost.localdomain to root@localhost.localdomain. As you can imagine, our mailserver rejected this because the localhost.localdomain parts. So I changed the sendmail config with these options:

This solved my problem partially: Mail is now coming from root@domainA.com (which is OK), but is send to root@slave02.domainA.com (slave02 is the local hostname), which is not OK. I tried everything I could find to change that last part to, but nothing seems to work.

but after this setup when i restart my network #service network restart while bringing up the eth0 the following message is displayed before [OK] - RTNETLINK answers : Invalid Argument now it seems either this setup is wrong or not sufficient to set up the connection, whenever i try to ping 172.16.0.1 it showing connect : Network is Unreachable

I'm using debian lenny.When I boot with kernel 2.6.36, ping always respond with Network is Unreachable. But when I boot with kernel 2.6.26 it works. I can't even ping the dafault router of 2.6.26 kernel when I am at 2.6.36. Also, system/administration/network does not show any connections while it shows something at the other kernel.

I cannot access/ping my Debian server. I know the IP is right (ifconfig, route and ip addr) all gave me 10.0.2.25 (route gave me 10.0.2.0).I cannot ping it from any computer in my netwerk, even when I try to ping it from my Debian itself, it gives me Destination Host Unreachable !(Wierdly, I can ping 10.0.2.2 tho).I am using virtualbox when the netwerk options 'NAT' turned on. When I look at my /etc/network/interfaces/ the last line looks like:iface eth0 inet dhcpShouldn't their be some other stuff listed?

I am having no luck configuring ProFTPd on a Debian Lenny production server we use to host our MySQL databases and a few websites. I had originally set it up so I could login and manage our internal sites, but I have the need to allow a few clients in to access their sites that we host. I am trying to root the users in their site directory, which would be "/sites/www.whatever.com/".
It just hit me while typing this. Is it possible to create a user without a shell to prevent login via SSH and set the home folder to /sites/whatever instead of /home/username? That would allow me to continue operating with my current configuration and root them in their site while preventing SSH logins.

i have a HP MSA 2312fc SAN with 2 LUNs configured. The first LUN (LUN ID 1) is correctly connected to the system, but when i connect the second LUN (LUN ID 30), i find in the syslog this message: multipathd: 8:64: size 6835937472, expected 5267578112. Discard

So I correctly see the two luns, but multipath doesn't create the relative devices. Under /dev/mapper I see: control mpath0 mpath0-part1 mpath0-part1 is the first lun, the one I mounted in a directory under filesystem. I can't find the device for the second lun

I am *finally* getting around to rebuilding my file-sharing computer. I'll be sharing files with both Linux and Windoze machines. It's a home network, so there's nothing fancy needed. I know I have to tweak my smb.conf file until I'm satisfied with the features and security. I'm using SWAT and I'm starting with a bare-bones conf file. It's not secure but I can see the server and selected files/directories from my other Linux box.
My really dumb question is, do I have to reboot both the server and the client machines every time I change the SAMBA configuration? I thought I just had to stop and restart the SAMBA service in the SWAT software - but then the server disappears from my client. It looks like I need to reboot both machines for the client to see the server.

I have a PC104 running debian. I have 3 hard drives (in addition to the one booting) mounted in fstab by UUID. I use the options defaults,error=remount-ro. However, this means that when I boot with the hard drives not attached, I have to press Ctrl-D to bypass when the boot discovers the drives are missing. Is there a timeout commandoption I can add to fstab so that it automatically continues booting even if the hard drives are not attached? I could not find anything on a timeout command. (I tried adding timeout=1000 but no-random guess)

I am using Squessze and Gnome. When I try to use the gui System>Administration>Network or Users and Groups I get the error The configuration could not be loaded. You are not allowed to access the system configuration.Everything was working before. I read around a bit. In some cases,it was caused by mismatching group and password files after using the gui. I do not know how to check if they are matching. Of course I do not know for sure that is the problem in my case.

I am working on a Debian 2.6.26-19 Distribution with exim4 as MTA. After a system restart a problem occurred with delivering emails to local addresses. These local addresses use a 1and1 mailserver for email. The MX records for the local domain are set correctly but exim does not use a DNS lookup for these addresses because it identifies them as local addresses. I figured this out by executing the exim4 -d -bt command. The dns lookup part of the result looks like this (I replaced the actual address with placeholders):

The eventual result of the exim4 -d -bt command is: [user]@[domain.ext] is undeliverable: Unrouteable address How can I make sure, that exim4 makes a DNS lookup for the local addresses instead of skipping it? I know that I have to edit a exim4 configuration file, but I could not figure out which and how.

I have a set of vm's with stable, testing, and sid to keep track of how things are going. When I did an apt-get dist-upgrade with squeeze last week, things seemed to OK (350 package updates) until the end. It didn't seem to like and / or was confused by a kernel dependency.
I am not too concerned yet. Because these are in vm's, I do a snapshot before any significant change. I can futz around with impunity because I have that backup.
I re-booted, and tried the apt-get dist-upgrade again with same results. I think I also tried apt-get -f install.
So I reverted to the snapshot, and will simply try again in the future. I recall that with lenny as testing, the font-desktop was really screwed up for about a period of 6 weeks.
However, just in case someone else runs into this:
1) a re-boot worked, but the failure of apt-get made me nervous enough to revert.
2) waiting for corrections has seemed to work in the past (with a single exception with a 4-disk SCSI software RAID10 update that failed to re-boot lenny successfully after what seemed to be a minor update -- that was on a real system, not a vm. I haven't gotten back to look at that.)

This is on Ubuntu 10.04 Server Edition. The ethernet cord was disconnected one day. I plugged it back in to find I can ssh to and from that machine, but I cannot update or browse the web (elinks) on it. I tried "ifconfig eth0 up" which did nothing. Why is it that only local connections work?

I have a web server running and wish to get a mail server running on the same machine. I have a registered domain name. I have postfix and dovecot installed. I can send emails from the server to my normal address on a different domain but cannot receive mail. I can send and receive mail locally with no problems. I just don't know where to look for the problems. If you need any more info ( config files/doamin names etc let me know)

I recently just installed Squeeze on an ia64 system and was having some troubles with running VNC.I get the following error, more specifically for some reason I get a malloc - memory corruption error:

I am trying to set up a virtualized ubuntu server in a local lan.In short : The server does not always answer to ping/ssh/whatever, but sometimes does, it seems completely random and dependant on the clients, it drives me crazy, what can I do to track down the problem ?In long : I will give the exact environment further down, but first the symptoms :A very strange network behaviour : the server does not always answer to ping/ssh/whatever from another computer in the LAN. It *seem*s completely random if it does or not, however I have identified some facts :- it is able to ping any computer in the LAN, or even outside (using IP or hostname) so it's connection seems ok.
- it is able to ping itself using "ping localhost"- the hyperviser is always able to ping it, however the *first* ping always fails (ie 3/4 first round then it works fine).now for the strange/random facts :- from my linux client, I can usually ping the server for about 10 minutes after I restart networking (in the ubuntu server), then it does not answer to ping/ssh/whatever anymore (though it happened that it suddenly came back for a while)- from my colleague windows client, we can ping the ubuntu server (same as the hyperviser, 3/4 first round), even when the linux client can't anymore- from my virtualized windows client, it is equal to my linux client (does not work fine)- from another linux client, same (does not work fine)- from 2 another windows machines, it does NOT work either !Now for the environment :- Hyper-V is the hyperviser on a DELL computer (not my fault, didn't have the choice)- Ubuntu server 10.04 standard install, with the synthetic network drivers activated in the kernel and defined in Hyper-V.
- A static IP- All computers in a LAN with mostly windows servers (such as DNS, AD and exchange servers)- there is another virtualized server (windows) on the same hyper-v global virtual network, with its own IP, and this one pings perfectly fine from any client.- the hyper-V also answers to ping

I have a CentOS5 box here (actually running the latest release of EasyIDS). Everything was working fine for about half an hour, and now I can't access the box through a web browser on it's IP address. I can't ping the box either. If I log on to the server, I can ping other boxes on the network and external resources, but nothing seems to be able to see it. I checked to make sure HTTPD is running, and it is. The firewall is not running (or at least that's what it says when I do service --status-all).

I have a big pb after installing F11 : my partition containing all my photos is now unmountable. Before installing F11, it was in ext3 filesystem
During installing F11 on sda1 (first hard drive), I noticed some strange error messages like "volume doesn't exist" or something like that.
now, when I try to mount my partition of my third hard drive, i get this :
