Debian Configuration :: Postfix Not Delivering To Local Users / Sort It?

I did search the forum but didn't find an answer.
I have setup Postfix + Dovecot on my basic debian 5 server. If I send a message to a localuser@mydomain.com from mutt, it delivers just fine and is visible when viewed through squirrelmail, I can also send just fine.
My issue is that irrespective of what options I set in main.cf, I cannot for the life of me get Postfix to stop erroring with "Recipient address rejected: User unknown in virtual alias table". I'm stumped.
My main.cf is as follows code...
I do not want to setup virtual hosting with MySQL or similar, I literally want to receive mail in local users mailboxes for a single domain. Any ideas on what's missing?

I have a mail server running Postfix and the problem I'm running into is that when trying to send mail, I get a "relay access denied" error.Inside my main.cf, I did not specify 'smtpd_recipient_restrictions' so by default, the variable is:

Every time I boot my machine, some of the playback values in alsamixer are set to 0 and are muted, so I have no sound.
The thing is, I have tried setting these to normal levels and then run sudo alsactl store. Then, if I run sudo alsactl restore after I reboot, the sound comes back up. However, if I have alsactl restore in /etc/rc.local, it doesn't work: I still get muted sound when I reboot. I have to run sudo alsactl restore manually each time.
I have already checked whether /etc/rc.local runs at startup, and it does. Also, I know that /var/lib/alsa/asound.state contains the correct values, because when I run sudo alsactl restore, the sound returns to normal levels. So what remains is either alsactl restore doesn't work in /etc/rc/local, or something runs after it and mutes the sound.

I recently moved over user from an old box running postfix(v 2.0.16) over to rhel 6 running postfix (v mail_version = 2.6.6). ive tried to make sure all the files are of correct permissions and that the main.cf file is configured corectly. However there is something wrong as when i run postfix: service postfix server i get no error but when checking the status:service postfix status i get: master dead but pid file exists Looking into /var/log/mailog i find this line being the issue:

I gather this is a file permission issue and ive tried to make sure the public folder in /var/spool/postfix is correctly set but still no avail.

I have a web server running and wish to get a mail server running on the same machine. I have a registered domain name. I have postfix and dovecot installed. I can send emails from the server to my normal address on a different domain but cannot receive mail. I can send and receive mail locally with no problems. I just don't know where to look for the problems. If you need any more info ( config files/doamin names etc let me know)

I am working on a Debian 2.6.26-19 Distribution with exim4 as MTA. After a system restart a problem occurred with delivering emails to local addresses. These local addresses use a 1and1 mailserver for email. The MX records for the local domain are set correctly but exim does not use a DNS lookup for these addresses because it identifies them as local addresses. I figured this out by executing the exim4 -d -bt command. The dns lookup part of the result looks like this (I replaced the actual address with placeholders):

The eventual result of the exim4 -d -bt command is: [user]@[domain.ext] is undeliverable: Unrouteable address How can I make sure, that exim4 makes a DNS lookup for the local addresses instead of skipping it? I know that I have to edit a exim4 configuration file, but I could not figure out which and how.

I have a postfix mail server on ubuntu 10.04 lts behind a router. so all local users are fetching/sending mails through ms outlook using local IP. Sometimes when internet goes down and any mail send then it bounced back immediately saying domain not found. Can u please tell me how i configure to hold all mails in postfix server rather than bounce when internet fails and will pass through when restored the internet around 15-30 minutes?

I have currently configured Postfix as an SMTP server. I would preferably not use a domain name in my email address, like so: myname@[1.2.3.4]
I'm currently testing to see how other mail servers handle this kind of address. When I sent a mail with one one of my gmail accounts, I see that the mail gets rejected due to bad syntax.
It seems as though Google is giving me a RCPT TO address like so: myname@1.2.3.4 However, the postfix server rejects this address with the following error:
501 5.1.3 Bad recipient address syntax
To my best knowledge the only way to have an IP address inside an email address with to write it as a domain literal [1.2.3.4].
My question: how to configure postfix to accept myname@1.2.3.4 as well?
I have put both [1.2.3.4] and 1.2.3.4 in "mydestination" and 1.2.3.4 in "virtual_alias_domains".
It doesn't seem to work so far though.

Having some memory loss i think (in my head not my pc). I have set up apache before , then changed to dsl in the last week and cant seem to get this new modem/router to work. i can get the loopback address to work, as well as the network ip. can NOT get my other machines to hit the server on the network .
also no connection from outside the network from port 80. my modem is a motorola (att) ,apache2 on my toshiba laptop, amd x2, 3gigs ram.

My Postfix cannot currently create any folders other than inbox. Even when I send an e-mail I receive an error along the lines of, "Could not create sendmail folder." Also, my Postfix isn't receiving e-mails, and can only send e-mails to other accounts on the server. I called my ISP and they told me my port 25 isn't blocked, and it is forwarded on my router so I am not sure what could be wrong. I am using zoneedit as my name server and I am pretty sure my MX record is good.

how to map all domain users form group Domain Users to local group users (and maybe some more)? Im using Ubuntu 10.04 x32. Its connected to my domain using Samba and Winbind, I can login using my domain credentials, automatically map user folder form DFS server, but I think that domain users have too much priviledges in the system and want to restrict them as much as possible

i created a second instance of postfix.It isn' t the first time that i made this procedure but with debian i had a lot of problem.I think that the problem is chroot configuration of postfix .In the first i had two problem smtp “fatal: unknown service: smtp/tcp” and the second instance was enable to make nslookup of domain.I copied the necessary file in /var/spool/postfix-second-instace and i solved the errors.Now the problem is that there aren't error in log file but connect to xxx.xxx.net[yyy.nn.yyy.yyy]:25: Connection timed out for all connection. and the email are all in defer directory and the second instance doesn' t send emails.

The problem I have is so simple yet difficult for me to resolve. My Postfix MTA allow fake mails from me@example.com to me@example.com. How can I block them?
For example, if I do "telnet smtp.mail.yahoo.it 25", as I write the MAIL FROM command I get the alert "Authentication required". How can I achieve that?

I'm doing some tests and playing around with postfix in a test squeeze server. What I want to achieve is a postfix mail server using ports 465 and 587 with smtp authentication to send mails. I have no idea how I managed this, but I am able to connect to the internet but NetworkManager doesn't show any connection. This means that until I kill it, I cannot log in with Pidgin, because it is waiting for a connection.
Do I disable NetworkManager completely or do I try to make it recognize that I am connected to the Internet? If the latter, then how should I go about? (Please let me know which files I need to show you, because I know I've messed around with a couple).

What would be necessary to run an ftp server (or a web server) on my local PC so that other people I know could access it and download stuff from it? The idea is to share photos, videos etc with friends/family where the files are a bit too big for email. (All 100% legal, own-content, no copyright issues, needless to say). Security isn't that vital, I'd just put files in the ftp directory, email the link and let them download the files, then remove them again. No passwords are required, and no uploads.
Obviously there's the problem that both computers have to be on at the same time, and I assume I'd have to change my computer's firewall settings and my router's settings to allow the traffic through, but my question is more basic than that - is it even possible? My internet connection is through a router, and as I understand it, my router has the IP address, not my computer. So I can connect through my router using my computer's IP address, but only my router knows my computer's IP address, and all the rest of the internet just sees my router and its IP address. Which means (I think) that I can't just send my IP address for my family to connect to, because that only gets them as far as my router, and the router would have no idea what to do with such requests. Am I right so far?
So is there any way for my family's computers to contact an FTP server or a web server running on my computer? Or does it require some kind of intermediary server to act as a traffic-forwarder? Is there such a thing? I'm assuming that setting up little private torrents would be fiddly and inefficient. Or would it be better/simpler to use one of the free filesharing services and put up with the (sometimes not too family-friendly) adverts associated with them?

Two nights ago I decided to switch from testing to unstable. Since then I am able to connect to the internet, but not to anything on my local network. I am unable to ping this computer from another one on the network. This computer is connected through wireless. I thought that something might have changed with iptables that was blockinghe localnetwork. I tried to "flush the iptables settings with "iptables -F". Since that didn't work I uninstalled iptables (which didn't work and I reinstalled iptables). In my browser I tried to connect to my router and that doesn't work either.I connect to this computer daily through ssh and connect to a NAS. Without ssh and my NAS I feel kinda lost

I'd like configuring NTP service on my Lenny Debian client to retrieve time from my local NTP server, so I thought to configure /etc/ntp.conf and to insert into crontab this command 'ntpd -qg', which is indicated in man. Can I run ntpd service to synchronize time for my client, avoiding to listen on port 123, beacuse my scope is to alignment time on client and to not give service to others, for this scope there is ntp server !

I can't get past the "scp -p id_rsa.pub" step; ssh fails with "Could not resolve hostname" errors. Both machines are connected with a hub. I've also tried using the IP address in the place of hostnames with no avail. Both machines can ping eachother successfully.The server has the "openssh-server" package installed.

I have Debian 8 installed, using:
* gdm3 as the default display manager (set up in "/etc/X11/default-display-manager");
* LXDE as the default desktop environment.
I did "dpkg-reconfigure locales" and I selected three languages: "en_US.UTF-8", "it_IT.UTF-8", "sv_SE.UTF-8" (the predefined one is "it_IT.UTF-8").Now I wish to create two more users each with a different language (both for X and console applications).I did a lot of googling without success; I tried modifying ~/.profile or ~/.dmrc (adding "export LANG=...") but they didn't work. I was able to change only the system-wide language, not the one of a single user.I got the conclusion that It's not possible to have multiple users each with a different language. Is it true?
I made another try.In another installation (Debian 8, with GNOME and LXDE) I created two users:antonio, ida.The former has only one hidden file in its home-dir: ".bashrc" with "LANG=it_IT.UTF-8" as the last line (no "export $LANG" added).The latter ("ida") has only two hidden files in its home-dir:
1. ".bashrc" clean, with no "LANG=it_IT.UTF-8" line
2. ".dmrc" containing two lines:
Language=sv_SE.utf8.I put "/usr/sbin/gdm3" in "/etc/X11/default-display-manager".After reboot both users are OK: each of them displays its own language: antonio has all menus and programs in italian ida has all menus and programs in swedish.
I was able to create 4 users with 4 languages (SE, IT, FR, ES). Then I deleted all directory and files (including "~/.bashrc" and "~/.dmrc") of one user, rebooted the PC, and NOTHING changed! So, where is stored the user's language?Not in his home; there is a list elsewere?
0. Use "lightdm" (not "gdm3") as the display manager (see "/etc/X11/default-display-manager")
To install it: su -c "apt-get install lightdm"
1. su -c "dpkg-reconfigure locales"
(select the desired locales: en_US.UTF-8, it_IT.UTF-8, sv_SE.UTF-8, etc; set "default locale for the system environment=None")
2. su -c "adduser emil" ("emil" is the name of a swedish user)
3. Logout
4. Select "Swedish" as default language (see at the top-right corner of the screen)
5. Write user name (emil) and password to login
6. After login, language is english (but file "~/.dmrc" is created with the correct language).
7. Reboot PC.
8. After reboot, login again as "emil": now language is Swedish
Now you can change the display manager to gdm3 if you prefer.To change applications language: su -c "apt-get install task-swedish task-swedish-desktop"
I found the file containing the user's language: it's the same containing the link to its icon:/var/lib/AccountsService/users/UserName.(needs "apt-get install accountsservice"). Editing that file is much simpler as I described earlier

I'm trying to set up a *simple* MTA in my local network. The only thing it should be able to do is send system / daemon mails to admin@mylocaldomain. but at the moment I'm pretty much overwhelmed by everything i *should* know in order to set up this MTA
my infrastructure:
- servers:
* test01.mylocaldomain --> should send mails (with exim) to admin@mylocaldomain
* dns01.mylocaldomain --> dns-server
* mail.mylocaldomain --> mail-server (postfix / iredmail package)
I configured exim to be in "internet"-mode. now i have a variety of errors I can choose from (and a variety of solutions that i don't like ).. my test is always an email from test01.mylocaldomain:

- after running the config, i get the error: admin@mylocaldomain: all relevant MX records point to non-existent hosts --> google says, edit and udpate update-exim4.conf.conf --> dc_relay_domains='mylocaldomain' --> but this exim installation should not be a relay at all. it should only be able to SEND (to this domain), not deliver it. or do i get something wrong?
- after i added dc_relay_domains='mylocaldomain', i get --> SMTP error from remote mail server after RCPT TO:<admin@mylocaldomain>: host mail.mylocaldomain [192.168.x.x]: 550 5.1.1 <root@mylocaldomain>: Sender address rejected: User unknown in virtual mailbox table --> but i don't want to create an account on the mailserver for the SENDER...
- ...so i thought, i'd config exim with the domain "test01.mylocaldomain" (including the server name), so that the sender is clearly from another domain than the mail server handles (e.g. user@test01.mylocaldomain).. but then i get this --> SMTP error from remote mail server after RCPT TO:<admin@mylocaldomain>: host mail.mylocaldomain [192.168.x.x]: 450 4.1.8 <root@test01.mylocaldomain>: Sender address rejected: Domain not found
I really just wanna send mails in my local network.

i rarely need my wireless, and i want it off by default, i am going to disable it during bootup with
echo 0 > /sys/devices/platform/acer-wmi/wireless
what would be the proper place for this? if i put it in rc.local it will be executed very late, i'd rather have it sooner. if add a new script to init.d, then run update-rc.d, i would have to adhere to the start|stop|reload structure of these scripts, right? or do i go a totally different way about this?

I have a new Debian 5.04/ppc install on a G5 tower and it's not able to browse the local network. The clean install could see the network, then I installed the Samba server, and it hasn't worked since. Samba server never really worked, and I'm guessing I messed something up. I've reinstalled network-manager, and removed / reinstalled samba.
I have a small home network (6 machines) running wired and/or wireless, pc/mac and linux.This machine can PING other machines by name and IP address.This machine can PING itself by name and IP address
Other machines can PING this machine by IP address only, not by name.Nautilus network browser only shows the "Windows Network" icon, which, when clicked, shows an empty window.I've got networking up fine on all my other machines but this one is stumping me.
