Debian Configuration :: 6.0 Installed - Wired Networking Ok But No Wireless
Feb 7, 2011
I installed Debian 6.0 on my hp dv400 laptop, Ive been using linux ubuntu for a while now and my wireless card has always been picked up but after isntalling Debian its not working. This is what I have. Also I cant seem to install awn for some reason.
I'm trying to bridge connections between a wired and a wireless connection in one of my computers. I was told it was impossible due to low-level limitations in the wireless subsystem, but apparently theres a way if you somehow forward packets from one port to the other. Is there a way I can achieve this?
I was able to get my wired connection going., but not my wireless. I installed gnome-network-monitor after having jfirst installed network monitor. My two paired blue icons are on top right of my monitor. I don't however have a display of what networks are near. I have lenny. and a pentium 3 soyo MB. I copied the ouptputs from ifconfig and iwconfigI get an error message at boot timepoints me to this link.[URL] I can make message come up, when I do ifup wlan0, but not all the time. I think I have a screenshot, but I have to brush up on how to post that here. Here are my copies of ifconfig first and iwconfig. Also, when i left click on network icon, I only see etho and lo, listed,.
I installed xubunto 10.4 on my pc the other day and every thing was working fine and then the next day my wired network card went down. So I restarted it and it say Wired Network Disconnected. I tried doing sudo ifconfig eht0 up to try and bring the card back online but nothing happens. I also tried reinstalling xubuntu on my computer. Again my internet works then starts freezing up so I restart it and my ethernet card goes down again. I have tried also plugging it into the second ether net port on my computer but that does not seem to work. Also I went into my dhclient-script and went to the bottom to look at my network card stuff.
It reads #Changed from 'ifconfig $interface inet 0 down' - see Debian bug #144666 ifconfig $interface inet 0 exit_with_hooks 2 "$@" fi
I have an ibm think pad and for some reason the internet(firefox) stop working and i don't know why , the netwprl settings have disappeared or anything on fixing it , yes i have tried restarting the modem but that hasn't work ethier Also i don't really know where the re-start disk so is there anyway i can fix it with out the disk?
I have installed Debian squeeze 6.0.1 using the CD1 of the i686 version (kernel 2.6.32.5) on my compaq presario sr1799es desktop. My machine has a ethernet card RTL8139 (RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+)(it has no wireless card). I can't connect to internet with debian.
I can connect to internet in this machine using windows xp. I also checked with the Puppy linux 5.2.5 version (with kernel 2.6.33.2) using a usb memory and I had success connecting to internet by dhcp. I already checked lots of forums with related questions but I couldn't find a solution for my problem. I'll show you the output of lspci and lsmod !grep 8139 commands:
lspci 00:00.0 Host bridge: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Xpress 200 Host Bridge (rev 01) 00:02.0 PCI bridge: ATI Technologies Inc RS480 PCI-X Root Port 00:11.0 IDE interface: ATI Technologies Inc IXP SB400 Serial ATA Controller (rev 80) 00:12.0 IDE interface: ATI Technologies Inc IXP SB400 Serial ATA Controller (rev 80)
I have 2 users on my HPmini 210 netbook running Squeeze. I just found out that it does not connect to existing wireless networks when I login as the second user. Is it supposed to happen by default or am I supposed to do something to make that happen? Another problem is that when I tried to create "new connections" again for the second user, the keys won't work. The same keys are working for the first user. The network keys are WEP 64 bit HEX.
I installed 10.04 onto an old dell and its was running great, internet etc.. I then had my home desktop crash and said great, let me bring the dell home so the wife can use it. At home, i have a wireless card ( Netgear WG311 ) that I then installed into the Dell. Being that she was needing to use it online right away, I searched for the first install as it was not detected, and used used synaptic to install the bcmwl-kernal-source as that was the prefer ed driver for Netgear. So now that I installed that, not only have I not fixed the wireless issue, I now have no wired internet. I've been searching and re reading as many steps as I can, but am running out of time as she needs the computer tomorrow. Installed the ndwrapper ? but was not able to actually get the driver installed. All the other threads seem to be older ubuntu versions, and maybe its just me but the slight variation from one to the nex has me a little confuzed.
I have Debian Squeeze AMD64 bit release. It finds my wired ethernet connection and ues itfine, although nothing shows up in the top right corner under the networking icon.
When I plug my mobile phone in (HTC S620) it always uses this as the main internet connection and then even if disconnected wont use my wired connection until I reboot.
Is there a way to stop it doing this or at least have my wired connction as an option so I can just click to reconnect to my ethernet connection?
I am trying to share my internet access using the following setup.
A Linksys WRT54G v5 router that is connected to my cable modem in my basement. I want the signal to be picked up by my Hawking HWABN1 and sent through a Linksys BEFSR41 to my Ubuntu desktop running 9.04.
I'm pretty sure the Hawking is receiving the signal because when I check the devices in the wireless router setting the IP shows up. I can't seem to get anything whether it is hooked up to the BEFSR41 or straight to the desktop and Ubuntu tells me I'm offline and I'm not getting an IP.
I have a WinXP laptop that I have used to run the Hawking setup and it is supposed to be accessible through a web based interface similar to the routers.
I'm trying to set up a wired/wireless linux router. it wirelessly connects to a network, then is wired to the internet port on my netgear wgr614.
eth0 (wireless) is dhcp
eth1 (wired)
The router
Internet port is static
And local network
I turned forwarding on, set the iptables for masquerade and nat, but i'm not really sure what i'm doing wrong. any pc connected to the wrg614 can see the pc thats supposed to be forwarding packets but can't see any further(the other router at 192.168.1.1 or the internet).
I have Ubuntu 9.10 installed on a VM Server 2.02 with a Win7 32 bit host. When the host is wired into my network, the Guest (Ubuntu) has internet conductivity. However when the host is connected via Wireless, the Guest Does not have any internet connectivity. The VM Network connection is set to Bridged.
in short : installed 9.10 on a dell inspiron 600m which has a broadcom bcm4401 ethernet and an intel PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B mini PCI. At this point, i'm not too picky about which one works (meaning neither of them currently work). nm-tool seems to pick up on both : the broadcom (eth0) is using the b44 driver, State is unavailable; the intel (eth1) is using the ipw2100 driver, it's State is disconnected.
i have encryption turned off, and the wireless sees a number of AP's (including mine).
i'm jumping off the good ship m$ and determined to make this work!
I just did a fresh install of ubuntu studio 10.04 and I can not connect to either a wired or wireless network. The In Network Tools the IPv4 IP address is 127.0.0.1. It is plugged into a network giving out DHCP IP's. Both wired and wireless were working on ubuntu 9. I have tried to bring eth0 up in the terminal but it did not give an error or anything. It it running on a Dell Latitude D820 laptop.
when i'm connected with wired (eth0) to my access point vpn connection connect flawless but when connect with wireless (eth2) to the same access point vpn connection failed i don't know whats the deal. i try disable eth0 (ifconfig eth0 down). it's disabled now but vpn connection still didn't work
I dualboot Win7 and Ubuntu 10.04 for quite a long time now with no problems.... but now wireless works perfect on Win7, but I can't even connect Ubuntu with a direct wired connection.... ubuntu connects to the actual Linksys Wireless router just fine, but just won't take the internet, and I've tried two different Wireless cards.this all started (I dunno if its relevant or not) when I put in a new TV tuner, which I obviously took out right away. But the problem is still there. I don't think its the card, I'm pretty sure its just some kind of setting that I've messed up or something because when I connect to the network its near 100%.
I have installed Ubuntu 9.10 twice on two different laptops that had wireless cards that weren't working until I sudo apt-get update(d) them. After that, the wireless cards seem to miraculously work. But I was able to download them because they had working ethernet cards.
I'm working on a new laptop (Dell Inspiron 1150). I installed Ubuntu 9.10 like normal but I could not get a wired connection. I plugged in directly to my modem and it still cannot connect at all. It says that Auto eth0 is available, but it tries to connect but can't seems to make it. I downgraded to 9.04 to see if there was any changes, and there aren't. The same problem persists.
I'm running Lucid 10.04 on a Dell Studio 15. I first noticed it today, but it could have been happening for a couple of days. I get no IP address for my wired connection when running ifconfig. Wireless is connecting perfectly. Normally when I start up both wired and wireless connect and get a local IP address like 192.168.1.11*. Additionally, the router has a slowly blinking light corresponding to this connection, which is different from other good connections like my printer which has a solid light on. Here is output from running route -n:
Code: Kernel IP routing table Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface 192.168.1.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 2 0 0 wlan0 169.254.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.0.0 U 1000 0 0 wlan0 0.0.0.0 192.168.1.1 0.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 wlan0
I have a single pc with both a wired and wireless card in it. I want to take down the wired connection down and bring the wireless connection up with a cronjob at certain parts of the day.
I recently installed ubuntu 11.04 after trying 10.10 for a while and never had to deal with wireless seeing as I always had it hooked up. but Now I am running it on my new laptop which has a Ralink RT5390 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter, and I am truly stumped on how to get linux to recognize it. Do I have to install a driver?.. plus, my laptop has the on/off toggle switch assigned to an 'fn' key, so it easily toggles on/off in Windows, but not in ubuntu.
I have recently developed a problem with my computer connecting to the internet which has totally stumped me and is currently forcing my to use windows much to my frustration. I am using ubuntu 10.04 on a Toshiba Satellite laptop. My wireless and wired network connections will not connect. They are all present in the menu and i can click on them but the connection tries to connect and then just times out and fails to connect. Everything still works fine in windows Vista. The more confusing thing is i tried some live disks to see if they would work but they all did exactly the same thing including a live disk of ubuntu 9.10 which used to work perfectly and live disks of openSUSE 11.4 and Mint 10. I struggling to tell if this could be a hardware problem or not. The fact that the live disks wouldn't work suggests a hardware problem but the fact that Vista still works totally throws that argument. I have looked all over these forums and elsewhere and have found some similar ish problems but non seem to have the severity of this one as all of those seem to be wireless only problems. The only thing that i was doing at the time this started was i had just set up a new secondary user account but i suspect that may be coincidental.
The fallacy in moving from desktops using PCI (etc) devices which have a history of available wireless and/or wired drivers is simply that one reaches a level of technology in modern laptops wherein drivers used by the devices in those laptops running Win7 are simply difficult to find for Linux OSs.
I purchased a Toshiba L500 (64 bit) which ran Win7 Home Premium; I wiped the HD and installed Windows 32 bit Pro. Runs like a top. Even after I installed Win 7 Pro, I had to search back on the Toshiba site for the wireless and Lan drivers to reinstall. I then installed Fedora 13 which gives me use of Win7 but also Fedora; However, does anyone know where there is a copy of an rpm driver (or for that matter a deb driver) for the following; 1. Atheros AR8152 PCI-E Fast ethernet controller and, 2. the Realtek RTL8191SE Wireless Lan 802.11n PCI-E NIC?
Obviously, without the availability of online status for Linux on Laptops, Linux becomes a useless paperweight and I have a very fast new Win7 Pro machine.
My setup is above, I hope it comes out OK on this forum, and someone can understand what its supposed to be! My problem is I am not sure how to get [PC] to be able to see [Internet]. From [Laptop] I can get both networks to work, and have tried using brctl to bridge them, but as soon as I do "ifconfig br0 up" neither network... works anymore (cant ping either router).
My father has configured his network and the computer has connected to the wired network. The problem is firefox says the server cant be found at the given address. The wired router says its connected to the network and yet firefox doesn't see the router admin page or network.
My current network setup at home is all wired, and that's worked for me so far. Now I want to set up a wireless connection on my Linux box that I can connect to with both my laptop and my Nintendo DS. I'd like to be able to host a wireless network from the Linux box, connect to it with some other wireless device, and have the wireless device communicate with the router, the internet, and other computers on the wired network. I have the wired network set up (statically configured) as eth0. Other network adapters present on the system are eth1 (not in use) and wlan0, wlan1, and wlan2 (identical cards, remnants from the last time I experimented with wireless).
So I guess my question comes in two parts: 1) How do I set up wlan0 such that it can host? Is Ad-hoc mode okay for this, or do I need to set it up in Master mode? 2) How do I forward connections between the wireless net and the router? Note that I will be using WEP, as it is all that the NDS supports. I'd like to set up MAC filtering as well, but not until after I get something that works.
I have installed Linux for the first time on an old Gateway purchased from work. The system seems up and running, but I can't get connected to my wireless or the wired network. I have tried using the network manager, but it isn't working. I have tried reinstalling Fedora 12 I have the following LSUSB and LSCPI output.
F14 did not recognize my wired or wireless NIC upon installation. I have enabled network manager, what should I do from here? Here is my hardware specifications:
I have recently bought a new laptop for this purpose. It is a Toshiba L555D-103. It was pre installed with Windows 7 (64 bit). I have now installed Ubuntu 9.10 (32 bit). It works perfectly when wired. But it does not when I try it wireless. It did work wirelessly with Windows 7, and I have many more both stationary and laptops working through the router, so I do not think the router is the problem.I am guessing that there are no drivers for the wireless to function, but I am not sure. I am guessing that there are no drivers for the Ethernet card ?
