Debian :: Can't Mount NTFS Drive On Jessie
Jul 9, 2015
If i click the ntfs partition from nautilus, it prompts to type password. If i type the password and enter, i see this message:
Code: Select allUnable to access “alldisksda5” Error mounting /dev/sda5 at /media/user1/alldisksda5: Command-line `mount -t "ntfs" -o "uhelper=udisks2,nodev,nosuid,uid=1000,gid=1000,dmask=0077,fmask=0177" "/dev/sda5" "/media/user1/alldisksda5"' exited with non-zero exit status 14: The disk contains an unclean file system (0, 0). Please resume and shutdown Windows fully (no hibernation or fast restarting), or mount the volume read-only with the 'ro' mount option.

I had a Linux server with Wheezy, I have 2 internal drive, one for linux OS, the other our Video On Demand drive that must be accessible to Windows and online. (That's why I chose NTFS, with our large video files, FAT will not work, and EXT isn't compatible with windows sharing, and I haven't gotten FTP to work right .
So I upgraded to Jessie today, and everything went smoothly until I tried to access my NTFS drive. (Named WowzaStorage)
I used FSTAB to auto-mount the drive (/dev/sdb1) to /media/ntfs/ on boot. All of this worked swimmingly on Wheezy, but since the update, something got mucked up and I cannot figure it out.
When accessing the mounted NTFS folder in /media/ (if it even shows up) gives me a 'Cannot be found' 'Input/Output error'
When in gParted to examine the drive, I can select it and view all the correct info, but I keep getting "error informing the kernel about modifications to partition /dev/sdb1/ --invalid argument"
Now first I thought maybe the NTFS driver was faulty and I removed 'ntfs-3g' and reinstalled it.
Now when I am in Terminal, after i umount and mount sdb1, I can CD to the drive but not the folders on it... Also using the File Browser, I get errors, and missing folders.
I get "Unhandled error message: Error when getting information for file '/media/ntfs': Input/output error"

I`m unable to mount my second hard drive I use to store my music and pics and wonder if it is to do with the error "failed to initialise HAL!" which I get every time I start Debian Lenny (AMD64 architecture). I have had this since doing an install (fresh) a few hours ago.
The drive is an ntfs one but when I click its icon in the computer section it says it cannot mount it and gparted says it cannot read the file system. If so how would I get the error box to stop appearing and how do I mount the ntfs drive?

I am trying to mount an external USB hard drive. I'm using Debian Lenny 5. I tried to right-click on the hard drive and then select the mount command inside the gnome desktop environment but it gives me an error. Is there an easy way to mount and unmount this hard drive? The hard drive itself is formatted from the factory in NTFS. I'm going to leave it in this file format is a need to use it with Windows machines as well.

I've just upgraded my system and I'm having some issues to boot with the latest kernel (cf: [URL] ....)
Hopefully I can still use the previous kernel (vmlinuz-3.2.0-4-686-pae).
I'd like to watch a movie that is on an NTFS partition.
From gnome-classic, I went in Places->datas (name of my partition) and I get this error message:
Code: Select allFailed to open "/media/mb/datas".
Error when getting information for file '/media/mb/datas': Input/output error.
The result of a df -h gives me:
Code: Select all/dev/sda3 fuseblk 96G 60G 37G 63% /media/mb/datas
mb is the username I'm currently using.
Previously it was only trying to mount the partition (after asking for the root password) in /media/datas
Is it normal that now it tries to mount it only for my current user in another folder?
If I look in the /var/log/messages, I only see this:
May 22 23:53:06 Tieum-Latitude gnome-session[2092]: Thunar: Failed to open "/media/mb/datas": Error when getting information for file '/media/mb/datas': Input/output error

We have a VMware box that is connected to a Thecus. The Thecus FTPS the WMware virtual machines onto a PC which has a 2TB drive.
We are trying to see if we can get the FTP'd VMware Virtual machines to run on another WMware node.
However Vmware use's NFS so we can't mount the drive as it's NTFS.
We are attempting to mount the NTFS drive in ubuntu. Can this be done and can it be turned into a NFS share without formatting the drive.

I have a ntfs-partition that I will use for documents for me and another user. I works fine for me.
The partition is mounted and I can read/write.
However, for the other user the partition is not showing up. What to do?
I've tried changing the permissions from nautilus, but no success.

I can no longer access my external USB hard drive after applying routine updates this morning. It is a WD "My Passport" drive, 500 GB with the standard formatting setup. As far as I can tell there are no errors on it. Upon plugging it in I see a pop-up box "Unable to mount the volume 'My Passport'" and it provides no further information under "Details." If I try mounting from the command line, e.g. mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/sdb1 /media/sdb1 or similar, no errors appear but when I do ls on the directory it comes up blank. Also then if I try to unmount it, it tells me the drive isn't mounted. This drive mounts fine on another computer running Fedora (and all the data on it is readable). I'm guessing there is a bug in one of the updates--here is what updates I applied.

I tried to mount a drive via ntfs-config and the following error occured:
Mounting /media/mOVIES failed because of the following error:

HINTS: Either the volume is a RAID/LDM but it wasn't setup yet,
or it was not setup correctly (e.g. by not using mdadm --build ...),

I have WD external 1TB USB 3.0 drive that I want to attach to a RHEL 5 computer. I don't want to format it to a FAT32 as I'm copyong over about 530GB of data. What is the easy to get the RHEL OS to recognize this drive? NTFS is not loaded on this system as I already checked.

The issue I am having is that Virtual Box does not recognize my USB drives. I understand that it is related to the fact that Ubuntu cannot recognize the permissions on the USB NTFS drive. So how do I mount the ntfs drive and gain full permissions?
One post suggested that I have to join my user to the 'vbuser' group in users and groups to fix this in 9.04, but I do not have a "vbuser" group in my list of groups. I am running 10.04.

I have reformatted my hard drive with allocation size 64K(formatted on windows with 64k setting) for a better performance on my WDTV HD media player(dealing with large files). When I mount this drive on Linux, the properties tells me that"blksize=4096".If I keep writing files using this default setting(blksize=4096) to my NTFS formatted hard drive, will my WDTV be able to benefit from the performance improvement of 64k allocation size ?I am confused, Does it have anything to do with "blksize=4096". ?Should I try and mount my hard drive with a larger blksize ?I did some research on google but couldn't find an option to increase the blksize when mounting an NTFS pre-formatted drive

About dual boot system with winxp and lenny.
Storage information:
1st primary:SG 160G ATA 100
1st secondary:WD 160 ATA 133
SATA:WD 1000
2nd primary:DVD
2nd secondary:DVDRW
Winxp in 1st primary.I did a fresh install of lenny on 1st secondary.
info about lenny setup:
1.Partition list:/boot,/,/home,swap
2.Every partition is XFS except swap.
At the end of installion, lenny installed grub on (hd0) that is 1st primary.
Everything seems OK.Lenny runs OK.
But when I switch back to windows xp,the diskmgmt can not detect hdd's info and the system meets a problem of shutting down.
After many times of trying.
I solved the problem by the following way.
1.Boot with windows xp's install CD and use fixmbr on (hd0).
2.Boot with lenny's install DVD , do a grub>root (1,0)>setup (hd1)
After that,edit /boot/grub/menu.lst and change (hd0,0) to (hd1,0) and also (hd1,0) to (hd0,0).
3.Reboot and Press F8 for a boot menu then I can select which disk to boot.
windows boot from 1st primary's mbr, lenny boot from lenny's grub.
The problem is caused by a bug between GRUB and windows' mbr and maybe more about GRUB and XFS.

Does someone know how to reconfigure this? I have three hard drives.
1. Sata 1TB. It has Windows xp and ubuntu 10.10 on it
2. old 30G drive. It has ubuntu 10.04 on it
3. Old 120G with ubuntu 10.04
I installed the oses on each drive by disconnecting the others. So each drive has a boot record, and I can choose by pressing F11 at boot. All ubuntus can see and mount the NTFS partition except the one I installed last. It's on the 120G drive.

I have been building a debian jessie system reasonably successfully but have come unstuck with libpam-mount. On a previous Ubuntu saucy system I simply installed it, created the appropriate pam_mount.conf.xml file and mounts would happen when users logged on and dismount on logoff. With jessie I can see that there is a libpam-mount package in main but when I try apt-get install it fails. If this package has been obsoleted (as one of the messages indicates might be the issue) what is the jessie way of handling this?
Here is my sources.list
Code: Select alldeb http://mirror.aarnet.edu.au/debian/ jessie main non-free contrib
deb-src http://mirror.aarnet.edu.au/debian/ jessie main non-free contrib

When plugging my WD "My passport" backup USB disk it does not work. Just installed opensuse 11.3 Kdeversion on my laptop. Before installing it on live mode i had a problem of accessing my other drives (NTFS, FAT32 and EXT4) which said HAL system policy...etc mounting error. I could access all drives with root privilege. I thought problem will be solver once i install opensuse on my system. How ever i was really disappointed after seeing the same problem post install. Googled around for the solution and got this link
[Code]...
After this the problem got worse now i am not able to see any of the drives in the side panel. Gone through many forum and posts all discuss about external USB HDD.
