Debian :: APPLICATION -> GAMES Menu -- Squeeze?

Mar 19, 2011

I think I have uncovered a BUG in the APPLICATIONS -> GAMES Menu system. I have UN-Checked all Games except for:Sudoku, DosBox, Chess, and AisleRiot Solitaire. But all the Games are still displayed that were installed from DVD.I have done a Logout, and Login, and Power Off. The games still do not show only the ones selected.See attached Games1.pngI have tried to submit a BUG Report but obviously I don't understand how that system works, as it just closes the window.

Debian Multimedia :: 3D Games Fail Recent Squeeze Update?

Apr 16, 2011

I run the 2.6.32-5-686 kernel on Squeeze and the bad nvidia drivers. A recent update, and pardon for not noting which, broke 3d games on my box. From a terminal neverputt yields the following error:

ignatius@lapbox 14:56 [ ~ ]:$ neverputt
X Error of failed request:  BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)
Major opcode of failed request:  137 (NV-GLX)

[code]....

I can mv xorg.conf to xorg.conf-pre and nexuiz will fire-up. Without 3d of course. I spent an hour or so last week going over my xorg.conf but it just ain't broke! Someone else saw it, too, and reported it but his post remains alone in the thread as of 10 minutes ago.

Debian Multimedia :: Install Nvidia Drivers In Squeeze?

Jun 21, 2011

It seems that I'm learning a bit about Debian in the last couple of days...

Here's the thing. I don't appear to be getting any 3D accelaration from my video card at the moment.

Having tried many things (which all failed) and making a mess of my computer I have done the following things:

1. Reinstalled Lenny from scratch.

2. Updated sources to point to stable and allowed update manager to do its thing.

I now appear to have a working build of squeeze.

X is up and running fine, but when I check /var/log/xorg it appears that I'm running the NOUVEAU driver, which does not support the 3D functionality of the card.

So... What is the best method for getting the appropriate driver installed?

My last attempt ended up with nvidia-glx fighting with xorg, so I'm hoping that someone will have up to date instructions that I can follow...

Debian Hardware :: When The Nvidia Legacy Drivers Are Going Into Squeeze

Feb 13, 2010

Does anyone know when or if the nvidia legacy drivers are going into Squeeze? I tried the ones in the Sid repos but ran into unresolvable dependencies. Lots of people were telling me that testing works just fine so I've been trying it out, but to be honest I've run into quite a few problems of this nature. I admit that I'm running a real Rube Goldberg mix of older and newer hardware on this box, but I wouldn't think it would be this much of a problem.

Ubuntu :: No Drivers Installed For GFX Card - Lag With Games

Jan 7, 2010

First off I cant seem to get any drivers installed for my GFX card, I've got an ATI Radeon X1300 and when I go to System > Admin > Hardware drivers it seems to find nothing. I'm pretty sure thats whats causing my next problem; Lag with games. I installed one of my favorite games, Blockland and ran it with Wine, First thing right off the bat is its lagging like hell. But, an even worse problem is happening. It doesn't even seem to start up now...

Alright, now let's go to java. One of my other favorite games, Minecraft, A game made with java, doesn't seem to work. I can play it for about 10 - 20 seconds until the game just turns white. There's also Dwarf Fortress, and it seems that I cant even get the linux version running. I looked at the requirements and got some of them, but not all and when I try to run it nothing even happens.

Lastly, Steam. So far steam is working fine, except when I try and install a game off of it, Steam just immediately closes... So, If you need my specs or anything just ask. I'd relaly like to fix some of these things so I use Ubuntu over windows, because I just love the feel more than windows.

Debian :: Change Settings For Games In Jessie

Jan 15, 2016

I am currently running Jessie (Debian GNU/Linux 8 (jessie))

On occasion I like to play Tetravex, Sudoku, etc. I also like to play it at different levels of difficulty and complexity. It used to be very easy to change these levels, but now it appears to be impossible because Jessie offers me the possibility to close the game, move it to another workspace or minimize/maximize/resize/etc it.

But change the level of difficulty?

Nope, not a chance. That option, my dear fellow, is no longer available.

Why? Who decided to change the user interface to such an extent that simple and basic operations are no longer available? Did a MS or Mac mole infiltrate the Debian project team?

Debian Configuration :: 3D Games Graphics Won't Work

Aug 13, 2010

I've been having this problem for a long time now. It started suddenly and without apparent cause. 3D games won't work. At first I tried to play OpenArena, and it didn't work, the graphics went terribly slow and choppy, videos were not continious, but rather a succession of pictures of movement. I tried installing and re installing the game several times, but nothing... Now, I'm trying to run hedgewars (the re-make of worms) and it doesn't crash or anything, but the graphics are too slow and choppy again. This is the output from the terminal:

[Code]...

The 'there is no soundcard' message is scary... I have been having sound problems lately, where sounds just stops working in all applications, and only restarting the system will bring sound back. So as you can see my audio and video seem to be on the wrong track. But I don't know how to diagnose the disease... by the way. I installed hedgewars from squeeze though I have lenny. I added the squeeze line to sources.list.and then apt-get-ed it. Is that OK?

I have recently switched to Debian and got everything working great except for one thing..When I want to kill some time by playing a game (in wine or native) in fullscreen it works fine except for a big number I get in the left corner of my screen that won't go away until I close the game and open the ATI control center. This is very frustrating and quite annoying. I am using a dual monitor setup and I have tried disabling my 2nd monitor when I play a game but that still causes this problem. Also I am using the drivers I got right off the ATI website.

Debian Hardware :: Glxgears Showing 900 FPS But 3d Games Very Slow?

Aug 13, 2011

I just installed Debian Squeeze a couple days ago and haven't had any problems so far except trying to get 3D acceleration to work with my Radeon 5770 card. When running glxgears, I get over 900 FPS and the gears are spinning great. When I try to run a 3D game like OpenArena, ScorchedEarth, or FlightGear, they are all so slow as to be unplayable. (extremely slow)

I've been trying to get this working for a while and had no luck.As per internet advice, I installed firmware-linux-free and firmware-linux-nonfree.

In glxinfo, it says "direct rendering: yes"

In my /var/log/Xorg.0.log file it says:

(WW) RADEON(0): Direct rendering disabled
(II) RADEON(0): Acceleration disabled
(WW) Falling back to old probe method for vesa
(WW) Falling back to old probe method for fbdev

Debian Hardware :: ALSA Sound Not Persistent In Games Or System

Jul 26, 2011

I recently changed from Gentoo to Debian Squeeze. All went fine but I have an ALSA issue. I have an AMD Athlon II X4 board with a Nvidia (Realtek) sound chip. After installing I got a lot of "no such device" errors, so I installed the Realtek driver the Debian way and the errors vanished. I could successful run alsactl init and alsamixer.

At this point there is no sound neither in games nor system. alsaplay says (on the screen) that it is playing a wav file but there is no sound. My test ''dd if=/dev/urandom of=/dev/dsp'' complains "/dev/dsp : no such file or directory". Well, all clear. modprobing the snd-*-oss modules brings sound alive but I have to do this after every restart. I have no clue how to make this persistent the Debian way.

Debian :: Installing Command Line Debian Squeeze System On Eee PC 701

May 29, 2011

I have been trying to install a command line Debian Squeeze system on n Eee PC 701., but have run into a number of problems:

1) All install info I can find assumes that the person wants to install a GUI system of some sort.
2) The Eee PC has a unique 2 MB. partition that needs to be preserved, so no guided install.
3) The Eee PC has an SSD instead of an HD. Most postings I have seen recommend an install without a swap partition, but the install (both live and text) seems to choke and despite a fresh formatting of the existing partition, claims to be overwriting existing files.
4) I can understand from the wiki that the Eee PC wireless driver (Atheros) should be included in Squeeze, but when the wireless connection and password is added, the installer claims that the password is not correct, despite me having checked it a number of times.

I hope someone can help me out. I just want to use the Eee PC for low resource stuff done on the cli like using a text based web browser to access the net through a wireless router and to hook it up to an external USB HD and to my stereo, to play my music collection.
