CentOS 5.4 (cPanel 11.25.0-R42213) I've used this guide several times on several servers to get FFMPEG`/FFMPEG-PHP to work with CentOS 5.2 and various hosting panels. But after trying on a server with CentOS 5.4, I've run into problems.

I've been using rubyripper quite happily on Karmic, now I've moved to Lucid and discovered a bit of an issue. rubyripper will pause for several minutes between tracks with ruby 1.8. If I upgrade to ruby 1.9.1 the gui client won't run due to an issue with libgtk2-ruby not being available for 1.9.1.
The cli version of rubyripper under 1.9.1 is blazingly fast, so that is what I'm using at the moment, but I do prefer the gui.
Anyone have any insight into this? Googling suggests there may be a bug in ruby 1.8.7 that caused the long pauses, but it was supposed to have been fixed in 1.8.7.249 i.e. the default Lucid version.
There are a few things not working properly. Ruby version manager seems ok but untill i get working with ruby i don't know if it is working properly. One thing that is not there is irb Interactive ruby is not available according the the message i get.
Well i have no idea what readline is but i did everything that is on that webpage referance page [url]. I have got a lot of progress and learned heaps about linux shell and bash terminal. The thing is i need to get this going and have tried feenode but it is very foreign and how it works i do not have a clue. I have got 2 things resolved so far through this forum but using other threads in it. i need to get irb going before i can progress to using ruby on Rails properly.
I am using a Eeepc running ubuntu easy peasy its version 9.04 of ubuntu. I need the whole of rails to work and want to get a handle on using ruby version manager along with the apache stack with mysql/phpmyadmin and am using this as a dummy run for setting up a development system.

I am trying to install ffmpeg-php on a centos 5.6 32bit. First I installed php-devel,yum install php-devel. I downloaded the ffmpeg-php from here to /usr/local/src by this commands;

I have openSSH installed and wish to log on to my Centos container (hosted by switchlinck.co.uk) from my Windows PC using putty. I can log on fine using by entering my username and password, but wish to use an rsa key to log on without a password. I have managed to create the keys with putty, and ammended them to work with openSSH. However, I am unable to find the authorized_keys file to put the key into. SSH is running but that file does not exist in /etc/ssh. When I read different how to sites for this, they all point towards ~/.ssh. I do not have a .ssh directory anywhere on the system. I have tried creating different users but still can not find this directory.

I run an centos server. From the console I can ping google.com and get a reply. But when I ping another address say xyz.com, the IP address is resolved (11.22.33.44) but there is no reply. In the same network in our office from my desktop I ping [URL] and there is a reply.I turned of the firewall but still the same problem.

I needed a FFMPEG + MENCODER + FFMPEG-PHP setup , so I have installed all of the necessary libraries/codecs along with ffmpeg , mencoder and ffmpeg-php
I've added ffmpeg-php (ffmpeg.so) module to php.ini and restarted httpd
But ffmpeg was not showing up in phpinfo() so I grepped : php -i | grep ffmpeg
for some clues and got this warning

That error explains why ffmpeg is not loading
Obviously something to do with GD library , so I've researched on the net , and found that some users suggest loading the GD module before FFMPEG module.
I gave it a try and added this at the end of php.ini:

I originaly tried with Redhat 9 and had the same problems. I am using an HP Pentium 4 system with 2 network cards.
1) The built in Realtek RTL8139 configured as eth0.
2) An add in Broadcom BCM5782 Gigabit card that was added I presume when the built in card failed (we have a number of machines like this around the school), configured as eth1.
I did not realize the second card was installed when I had Red hat 9 on the system, but I discovered it after installing centos 5.5. I have tried to configure the system to use DHCP with and without getting the DNS from the provider, and both ways the system complains that there is no connection, check the cable, so it will not activate the device.
When I configure the device to use a fixed IP, I can configure the device, but I can't ping anything on the network other than myself. I suppose it is possible that both network cards have failed, but I get green link lights with both cards, when I connect them to my router, so I am at a loss as to why neither board seems to work. I don't have a spare network card to slide in because the computer takes a special mini card. Is there an easy way to test the board to see if the board is a problem?

(Using Archlinux) I downloaded Ruby 1.8.7-174 a while ago and installed it via the tarball (not pacman). I was trying to update to 1.8.7-299, but I can't get it to work. Per the readme, I do the following steps, all of which complete without error:

make
make install
After install finishes however, I still have -174 installed instead of -299.
Terminal, I type ruby, I hit enter, and nothing happens. I'm given a blank line that I can type and enter, and again, nothing happens. I'm stuck, is there a way to fix this without closing the terminal window?
