CentOS 5 :: Why Tomcat 6 Not Provided In Yum Repository
Feb 10, 2009
I saw in CentOs Documentation that the only Tomcat package available in CentOs 5 was Tomcat 5, I would like to know why CentOs 5 didn't support Tomcat 6. And what's more I would like to know whether last version of Tomcat (6.0.18) can be installed on CentOs 5, and if we can trust installation tutorial we can read on centOs How 2 page? And in addition, could you tell me why Tomcat 6 isn't provided in CentOs Yum repository ... Is there a no working reason?
So researching how to install Tomcat 6, I ran across a guide that specifically states there are issues with the repository version of Tomcat. Doing some more research it seems like this is reported in multiple places including a disussion on the official mailing list that was inconclusive. So my question is, if this is intended for a production server should I use the repository one or manually install it
I am using centos 5.2 with kernal version "kernel-2.6.18-92.el5" i cant play mp3 songs in any of the players provided..can u help me in installing "vlc" or any other versatile player..thnx in advance.

I installed centos 5.3 on my server one year back, it was getting update form yum till jan 2010. but now if i update it through yum it gives following error:
Edit: The url works if I leave out "repomd.xml" at the end; and the repomd.xml is exactly in that folder? i have downloaded the file but don't know how to use it.
Yum update do not respond and I get these exceptions. Loaded plugins: fastestmirror Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile [URL]... [Errno 14] HTTP Error 403: Forbidden Trying other mirror. Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: base. Please verify its path and try again I have search the forum but the suggestion have not help me resolve this issue. I tried both the mirrorlist and baseurl links in the CentOS-Base.repo file. I using proxy and have followed the instruction [URL]. When I run "yum --disablerepo "*" --enablerepo "rpmforge" list available" I get this
Loaded plugins: fastestmirror Error getting repository data for rpmforge, repository not found
I am trying to setup Tomcat on CentOS 5.2,This is that ive done so far...Installed Apache, which works fine and I get the "Apache 2 Test Page powered by CentOS" Did this
I have installed Tomcat 5.5 on a server with Centos 5.2. I can start Tomcat from command line with:
/var/lib/tomcat5/bin/catalina.sh start but if I add the command to /etc/rc.local Tomcat don't start on boot, I need to login and manually start. I have add other services to the /etc/rc.local file (mysql and apache) and all start with no problem. Only Tomcat failed to start on boot.
I added the JAVA_HOME to /root/.bashrc: export JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jdk export PATH=$JAVA_HOME/bin:$PATH export CATALINA_HOME=/var/lib/tomcat5 export CATALINA_BASE=/var/lib/tomcat5
I have tried many different things I found on the net, but nothing worked for me.
I installed the Tomcat5.5, but when i test the port 8080 didn't work, where i can edit to work it properly? and then help me how to setup apache to tomcat? specific command, directory where i can edit and configure the scripts? and where i can put the web application file?
I'm stuck in an ugly situation where I *have* to upgrade some packages to newer versions than what yum provides. For example, the latest openssh-server is 4.3 and I need 4.4 or higher.
Obviously I can compile the packages I need myself, but are there any sort of "best practices" to avoid making too much of a mess? Should I be installing stuff side-by-side with both versions? Anything distro-specific to keep in mind when building?
I've installed Apache Tomcat--6 and even jdk1.6.I've even created a tomcat.sh file to start the serverautomatically and it includes the Environment variables also ($CATALINA_HOME & JAVA_HOME) for automatic startup.Next when i'm using http://localhost:8080 to call the server it shows unable to connect.I've tried changing the port no of tomcat in server.xml file. but still its not working.
-->Then i tried using--telnet localhost comand--it shows Trying 127.0.0.1...
telnet: connect to address 127.0.0.1: Connection refused
telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused
Here I'[m stuck i don't understand how do i make the localhost work.
-->If I'm giving telnet localhost 25 the sendmail server is working. But the 80 and 8080 ports are not getting configured.
-->I've tried adding the port and its name in /etc/services file but still its not working.
-->When I'm giving the command--/sbin/chkconfig --list--->Its shows: xinetd based services:
... ...
telnet on.what should i do to get my tomcat server work properly.
I have made a cluster between two server. In luci I can see that my cluster is green and the two nodes to.I have make an IP resource and associate it to a service : green : I can relocate the service from a node to the other one and the IP appears in the list of IP addresses The problem is that I have made the same in order to configure tomcat and postgresql and it does not work...I put my configuration only for ip and tomcat:
Error Type: <class 'yum.Errors.RepoError'> Error Value: Error getting repository data for installed, repository not found File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 3125, in <module> main()

My first time installing centos server and adding it to xp home network. I am new to setting up my own network in general. I have a home windows wired ethernet xp network (simple linxs router) with 2 xp boxes and one centos5 box all connected to the same router. I just set up the centos box running tomcat on port 8080. I need to do two very basic things at this point, but am not sure what I need to do:
What do I need to do so I can: 1. Connect in firefox on one of my xp boxes and call the tomcat server running on my centos box? 2. Be able to ftp to centos box from either of my xp boxes?
I am installing a cluster which is hidden from the rest of the world and there is no router either froma general login node. I would therefore require a local repository of the updates to CentOS5.4. When I checked I only found instructions for a full mirror. As I have no room and neither the human resources to setup and maintain a full-blown mirror, this is not a solution. However if I try to find updates for 5.4 to download in a repository-type of way I fail to find a solution. Maybe I am just not looking in the right places.
I installed eclipse and tomcat with package manager. Eclipse and tomcat are running but i can't see tomcat in the eclipse. I just see 'Basic' folder. That is a screenshot [URL]
I have one server with Jboss and Tomcat installed, I have to start these servers manually everytime I do reboot the server. How I could do to start Jboss and Tomcat automatically, when I do reboot the server?
configure: error: Cannot find libmysqlclient under /usr.
Note that the MySQL client library is not bundled anymore!
since im installing it from depency package a libmysqlclient package is not present in default centos repository so that i needed to add my php repository to get the issue solved .can somebody say where i can get php centos repository
user of centOS and I would like to know how to make for having the installation DVD recognized in the tab "add/remove software".I want this to download ndiswrapper from the install DVD.
I'm working on a machine that does not have a network connection. Is it possible to set up the system to use the installation DVD as a repository so that I can add packages that I missed on initial install?
I don't want to disable it... I want to completely remove it, so it doesn't sneak back later. I don't see a yum --removerepo and Googling leads to instructions to disable.
I am going through creating a document on how to install Zoneminder on CentOS.So I decided I would do a new build and capture the output, dump it to a file, then post it.However, seems like sometime over the past 10 days or so when I did it last, one of the repos I use to download other software is now gone.I use this as an additional repository:Except, now it is not there anymore. Does anyone know its whereabouts? :)Some of the things I have downloaded from there which dont seem to be in the yum repos are: git, ffmpeg, htop
I have managed to blow up something trying to follow this:http://wiki.centos.org/AdditionalResources/Repositories/RPMForgeHere is what i get when i try: yum update
Yum answers that it does not contain lighttpd or lua in the repositories (base, updates, addons, extra). Where can I find a repository containing these packages or should I revert to building myself ?
