CentOS 5 :: Unable To Download Required Packages With Yum Install

Jul 24, 2010

I am looking for the following missing packages for CentOS 5.5 (64 bit OS) which are required to install Oracle 11g and Oracle 12.1.1 EBS:

When I run yum install for these packages, the yum command cannot find these versions for CentOS 5.5.

openmotif21-2.1.30-11.EL5.i3861
xorg-x11-libs-compat-6.8.2-1.EL.33.0.1.i386
binutils-2.17.50.0.6-9.0.1.x86_642
* gcc-4.1.2-14.el5.x86_64

[Code].....

where I can download these for CentOS 5.5? Would I use the same rpms for Red Hat Linux or Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.5?

I've added a couple of extra repos in my x86_64 Fedora 11 KDE installation.Namely, skype and rpmfusion and no rawhide stuff.I've asked then to install skype (Skype 2.0.0.72).While I was expecting a lot of packages because skype has decided not to support 64bit environments, I have found some very weird packages within the 79 item list.

General :: Authentication Is Required To Install Software Packages For Knoppix

Jul 24, 2011

I have had some help with root password su and sudo su, but I can not find the correct password to install or remove programs. I keep getting the same message ' Authenticate' Authentication is required to install software packages. An application is attempting to perform an action that requires privileges.Authentication is required to perform this action.Then it asks for a password, I've tried enter, seacats, knoppix, user, and my root password. None of these work I seem to be a second user and not the owner.

My Linux language is very low, but I am learning, right now in order to find or try to install software I go through the startup menu> preferences> software center. Is there another way to find and install software that doesn't require and authentication password? If so where do I find out the steps to do this? Hands on is always the best teacher.

Debian Installation :: Can't Download Any Additional Packages - Update The Version - Unable To Connect To The Internet

Jul 14, 2011

I'm trying to do a net install with the latest release of debian - but my ethernet card is not recognized/the drivers are not available because I have a card that requires a linux kernel version of 2.6.35. This is obviously a problem because I can't download any additional packages, and I can't update the version because I'm not able to connect to the internet. I have installed it, but it's only text (which I assume is because I could not install the graphical interface, correct me if I'm blaringly wrong here). So what can I do to install debian on my laptop and be able to use my Intel Centrino Advanced-N 620 network card?

General :: Download Packages With Apt But Don't Install Them?

Feb 22, 2010

I'm running a Knoppix Live CD, and I want to install ClamAV. What I'd really like is to download all the relevant packages and save them onto a USB pen, and then I can install it easily whenever I run the Live CD anywhere and update the definitions at my leisure without having to connect to the internet or go through remodelling Knoppix. I'm not entirely sure how to do this though, mainly because of dependencies. I would think it would be along the lines of cd'ing to the usb and running:

Code:

apt-get -d build-dep clamav-base
apt-get -d build-dep clamav

and then to install use dpkg, but I'm not sure how to get it to look for the dependencies in the same place:

Code:

dpkg -i clamav-base
dpkg -i clamav

I'm just about to go and try it, but I thought I'd ask first to get the wisdom , but also to see if anyone else does something similar and whether they think this is a good way to achieve the goal, regardless of whether this technically works.

General :: How To Download And Install Different Packages

Apr 2, 2010

Right now I am using UBUNTU Hardy Haron. I just moved from windows to linux. It is very easy to install any games or software in windows. Just double click exe, next - next and finish. I want to install some mario games in my pc (ubuntu). I have downloaded tar.bz2 of it. Extracted it and configure and install-sh both are there. I already tried by ./configure. It requires g++, cpp several packages. Now my question comes. What are those packages? How to find out them? How to install them? Is there any other easy way for installation? What are different type of compilers over here?

Fedora :: Download And Install Packages At Same Time?

Aug 28, 2010

I was wondering if there is a possibility to configure yum in such way that it would download and install packages at the same time?What i mean is that after downloading certain package it continues to download the next one but at the same time it is installing the one it has already downloaded? Is it possible in fedora? I remeber back when i was using openSUSE 11.2 that the behaviour of the installer was configurable and would let users to choose if they want to download all packages first and then install them or download a package, keep downloading next ones but install the already downloaded ones .

CentOS 5 :: Get The System Booted To A Bare Minimum Required To Install Chef (Server Management Software)?

Aug 20, 2010

I am in the process of creating a kickstart configuration file for some RedHat 5.5 and Centos 5.5 servers (Production and test respectively).I have googled about a bit but I cannot find a good list of the bare minimum packages required for a command-line system.If anyone knows how I can trim this list down anymore it would be much appreciated. The aim of this kickstart.cfg is to get the system booted to a bare minimum required to install Chef (Server management software). Chef will then setup Apache, Ruby on rails environment etc.

All this server will need to do is, from a static IP, Host a Ruby on rails app, send emails, send data to a server on the web, accept ssh and occasionally and connect to a SMB/CIFS share This list was taken from the anaconda-ks.cfg file after a RedHat install of what I thought was a pretty minimal system onto a VM but I noticed that cups, the avahi daemonsand gam_server are installed and running which I do not believe are needed for a pure web server.I know that these types of questions are hard to answer without a complete knowledge of the operating environment and what "minimum" is in this case ("@core only? but I wanted yum damnit!")

@admin-tools
@base
@core

Debian :: Minimun Packages Required To Build Kde Apps

Jan 15, 2011

Debian squeeze amd_65, using gde3/gnome.I'd like to use KMyMoney, but the latest packages (v4.5.2) and not the v3.9.8/test version that's in Synaptic Package Manager.I'd rather not install every package that contains *kde* in the name, but I'm more than willing to install the minimum required to compile and run them.Trying to build kmymoney v4.5.2. After some google searches on the specific errors, I initially learned about apt-file and the find feature.

I'm unable to determine what package I need for 'Boost', and although apt-file reports that kdepimlibs5-dev is the package for gpgme - I still have no files called QGpgmeConfig.cmake or qgpgme-config.cmake, and the log still shows 'Could NOT find QGpgme'.Any pointers on what package(s) I'm missing, or other ways to determine what I need?

General :: How To Know Required Packages Of One Package Before Installing In Ubuntu?

Jan 30, 2010

I have Ubuntu 9.10 installed on my laptop.And I am going to install mediaplayer from its "*.deb" file, But it requires a lot of other packages and each of those packages needs others and so on.Since I do not have internet connection on my Ubuntu and my internet connection is in Win XP, so I should download these packages and then check them in my Ubuntu and see what other packages it needs and download them and so on.

It is a very time consuming task. If I could find out what are all the required packages I could download all of them at once and then I could install them by "sudo dpkg -i *".Therefore I am wondering if there is a way to know which packages are the required ones for a typical package, my work would be much more easier.

General :: Building System - Required Packages / Libraries And Components

Jan 4, 2010

I installed the minimal-command line system from the kubuntu CD on my laptop, which is guess is roughly around 200mb after installation. I wish to install a Desktop Environment preferably KDE and I wanted to know how and where do I begin from? Do I need to have a working XORG prior to installation of KDE and do I also need to install Window mangers and e.t.c? What all packages/libraries and components do I need to install first? I'm really not sure where should I begin from.

Initially what I am trying to do is to have working GUI system,then later on I can install rest of the packages and software that I need, like office, GPU drivers, browser etc. Secondly,for a minimal KDE system,what metapackages are to be installed from this site? I believe kdebase, kdebase-runtime, kdebase-workspace are required. [URL]

General :: FTP Download ---Procedure And Estimating Dynamic Space Required?

Apr 29, 2011

I have just downloaded Slack- 13.37 using Filezilla..I downloaded from an FTP server the entire directory of Slackware - Current (32 Bits) ..There were some problems encountered:1. When I selected the entire folder in FZ , the Queue size was reported as 4 GB.2. I started downloading and after significant time , still the Queue size was reported as around 3.8 GB..I was perplexed as I have a decent bandwidth and it cannot be. To dispel my doubt , I saw the properties of the Slackware directory in which it was downloading. It showed 1.9 GB.. Is the Q size not dynamic? (Total size - Downloaded size)

3. I was on the edge of my seat as my HDD had only roughly about 4 GB ...So , the Q size was kinda misleading..In a haste , I thought I would remove 2 big installations and wiped off Openoffice as anyway I was planning to go in for libre...I moved some other files to a different partition to ensure additional space4. At the end , early in the morning I woke up and saw it had finished ..But there was a failed transfer of 1 hidden file ..There is still 450 MB left in my partition, dont know why it got omitted.5. Now I want to check the integrity of the download bfor burning to a DVD..Should I use md5 sum? I am not able to determine slackware size by googling...In fact I should have gone in for a pre compiled ISO instead of this directory! But it wasnt available yesterday..6. Is there any good download manager like DAP/ Orbit / Leechget which also gives options like turning off comp after download (useful for overnight installs)...The DW helper in Mozilla is not that good ...I want a utility to split the download into 4/5 channels and speed up the download and most importantly show a graphical menu clearly showing Speed, Size, Time left , etc similar to windows DM
