CentOS 5 :: Install Audacity , When It Ran, It Came Up With 'library Incompatibilies'?

Apr 1, 2009

I've been happily running Centos 5 (in fact kernel 2.6.18-92.1.22.el5) for a while now.Today, I tried to install Audacity and although it installed OK, when it ran, it came up with 'library incompatibilies'.I looked around and found someone who had installed using ....

audacity-nonfree .... blah blah
compat-wxGTK26 ... blah blah

I installed these and Audacity ran OK ....However, then the problems started.I'm now getting a message from the software updater telling me that 185 packages need updating! I've tried letting it update and it downloads, checks dependencies and then stops without any upodates. Each reboot tells me the same thing.It seems obvious that no updates are in fact needed and I'd like a way ofstopping the message appearing.

CentOS 5 :: Shared Library Exists But No Program Can See It?

Jan 12, 2010

I am trying to add some functions to a Postgresql database. The functions use a shared library which they think is: /usr/lib/pgsql/postgis-1.4.so They say: "ERROR: could not load library "/usr/lib/pgsql/postgis-1.4.so": libgeos_c.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"

I cd to /usr/lib/pgsql/ and do an ls. postgis-1.4.so is there. libgeos_c.so.1 is as well (and it's in /usr/lib/ )

Both the files seem to exist. I cannot copy either of them (cp says "cannot stat '[file]': No such file or directory".

CentOS 5 Hardware :: Enable New Libata Library Without Recompiling Kernel?

Sep 9, 2009

I use CentOS 5.3 with kernel 2.6.18-128.1.6.el5 for Clonezilla. It would be simpler for me if any of IDE or SATA drives detects as /dev/sdX device. Because when I cloning computers with Clonezilla it is matter which type of drive connected to cloned computer. So I must firstly clone computers with IDE drives, after that with SATA drives. If all drives would detected as /dev/sda I would can clone all computers at once! Is there simple way to enable new libata library without recompiling kernel? Is there already compiled kernels with this feature?

CentOS 5 Hardware :: Configuring Logitech MX Revolution But Missing A Library And/or Evdev

Jul 31, 2009

On a new install of CentOS 5.3 I am trying to make the Logitech MX Revolution mouse work (I did actually succeed in configuring it by BTNX on my previous machine, but can't make btnx work now...). I am following the instructions from [url] works. However, when installing the xmacro package it complains about a missing library: libstdc++.so.6(GLIBCXX_3.4.9)(64bit). The library is available in Fedora but not in CentOS. I guess installing the Fedora library is unwise...?

Does anyone know how to make xmacro work?

Also, in xorg.conf it seems (from other posts etc) using the evdev driver for the mouse would be advisable.

However, when I change from [driver "mouse"] to [driver "evdev"] X cannot start. In the xorg.conf logfile (/var/log/Xorg.0.log) it seems like the evdev driver is not compiled:

I don't really understand the error, but it seems to me, that the evdev driver is not compiled... The evdev driver should, though, be installed (through the package xorg-x11-drv-evdev-1.0.0.5-3.el5.x86_64)

If this is right, how, then do I compile the evdev driver?

CentOS 5 :: PhpMyAdmin Complains Of MySQL Client Library And Server Version Mismatch

Sep 18, 2010

Summary: Does a discrepancy between MySQL client library 5.0.x and MySQL server of 5.1.50 cause "inconsistent behavior", as reported by phpMyAdmin? The longer version: Windows Sysadmin taking the plunge into Linux. I tried to spare you all the rookie questions and did a fair bit of reading. I'm rather happy I was able to get CentOS 5.5 installed and running, configured iptables, got the kernel updated, Apache, MySQL and PHP installed. Then upgraded PHP to 5.2 after I figured out how repos and priorities work.

I got phpMyAdmin installed and running, then decided to upgrade from 2.11 to 3.3.7 but it keeps complaining that my MySQL client libraries are something like 5.0.63, while my server is 5.1.50, and this may cause "inconsistent behavior" or something of the like. So, feeling industrious, I decided to find an updated client.

MySQL-client-community-5.1.50-1.rhel5.i386.rpm

But it wouldn't let me install it as it conflicted with the default mysql-server installation. I also couldn't remove just the old client, to update to a newer one. So I blew away everything mysql on my server and installed the above client

MySQL-server-community-5.1.50-1.rhel5.i386.rpm

and that server file. I'm assuming I'm missing dependencies now as phpMyAdmin claims it can't load the mysql extension. Attempting to 'yum' php-mysql tried to install 'mysql' as a dependency, which immediately conflicted with the files I'd installed. At this point I'm wondering if I'm closing in on successfully installing a version that phpMyAdmin doesn't complain about, or if I should even care that it is complaining and just go back to all the repo versions of everything.

# rpm -e MySQL-shared-community-5.1.50-1.rhel5.i386.rpm
error: package MySQL-shared-community-5.1.50-1.rhel5.i386.rpm is not installed

Programming :: SDL Static Library - Shared Library ?

Apr 7, 2009

I'm reading about shared, static, and dynamic libraries. What is SDL? Is it static, shared, or dynamic?

I always thought a library would be a lot of .h and .cpp files compiled separately into .o files and then if you compiled your own program you could use the -l parameter to link the library and it was all compiled together. Now I'm not so sure.

I don't even see any SDL .cpp files in my system anywhere. All I have are lots of SDL .h files in /usr/include/SDL and I don't really understand the code in them.

I'm making a wild guess here: SDL is a shared library. SDL itself is NOT compiled into my program, therefore SDL must be on any system my program tries to run on. When I compile and link SDL all it needs is the header files to know what SDL function and objects it can use. And then on every system it uses an already compiled SDL shared library thingy somewhere.

So... where is that part of SDL? All I can find are header files.

I'm thinking the advantage of shared libraries is that someone could say update SDL on their own system and take advantage of the new features without having to download new executables with the new version of SDL compiled into them for every program that uses SDL.

So if I'm making an editor and a game engine and they both use a lot of the same .cpp and .h files that I wrote and I'm tired of updating one and then the other and I need to turn them into a library, then a shared library might be kind of a silly solution. I could just make a static library. Right? Because it's not SDL. Nobody else is ever going to use this library.

CentOS 5 Server :: PHP SOAP Server Returns Array Using NuSOAP Library?

Jul 2, 2009

I have a function in my SOAP server that returns an array. When the client calls this function, it only receives "array", and when I use foreach to print each member of this array, it tells me that this is not an array. If I change the returned value of the function to a string or integer type everything works fine though, so I don't think that there is any problem with the client.I am using NuSOAP library on php to achieve that.I had doubt when declaring the type of return value of the function. In XML schema there is no array type, so I specified the return value as a string like this:

PHP Code:
$server->register("getLocation",

General :: Link Shared Library Against Other Shared Library?

May 27, 2010

I think that the solution is very simple, but I cannot reach this solution. I'm trying to build an B.so that uses A.so.

A.so is compiled using C;
B.so is compiled using C++;

Inside "Aso.h" file I'had declared:

Code:

#ifdef __cplusplus
extern "C" {
#endif

[code]....

There's no error to compile that, this library seems to be compiled correctly, but using the "nm" command the Aso.so functions appear with "U" of undefined. Trying to build an executable using the Bso.so library, I got this error: /lib/../lib/libBso.so: undefined reference to `foo(int, int, int)' I think that to solve this problem it's only link the Aso.so with the .o files generated at the compilation phase of my Bso. Using the "ldd" command I'm able to see that Bso.so depends on Aso.so, so what am I missing?

Ubuntu :: Can't Print At Our Library?

Apr 20, 2010

I convinced our librarian to let me put Ubuntu on our public computers a year ago. However everyone is really upset as printing is a constant problem. Soon Ubuntu will go and windows will be back if I can't solve this soon. I have tried lots of tweaks with no luck. I am not a computer or Linux professional but am pretty knowledgeable on tech although a bit weak with command line tasks.Karmic can print test pages but rarely pdf, office, or web pages. I constantly uninstall and reinstall the printer. We use a print server and several laptops share the printer. All run Ubuntu 9.10 and all are up to date. When I check the print queue all jobs are being held even though I have it set to no hold.Occasionally something will print.I also have an XP machine and an Apple but have about given up on ever getting them to print though the printer does get found by both of them.We are lucky that they let me put Ubuntu on these machines but unless this is solved soon Ubuntu will be history here. What I really need is to talk to someone while I am at the library and see is this can be fixed in a step by step manner.

I am there Thurs by 1pm eastern time USA daylight savings time. Though I could be there by noon if that would help. We open at 3pm and after that it is really hard to get exclusive use of the computers.If anyone can call me there on Thurs we can set up a time. Also I could call out by Magic Jack phone if it would save someone a long distance call. The Magic Jack is quite unreliable.We are getting Charter with long distance in 2 weeks but everyone is on my case to get this fixed before that. I am a volunteer. Also if another day would work I could maybe schedule that but I do volunteer other places at set hours. research,and web searches trying to solve this with no luck.reinstalling the printer on all the machines will maybe make it work for a few documents but not even that works much.

Programming :: Library Dependencies And G++

Apr 18, 2010

How to make simple games (snake, pong... nothing too fancy). I have completed making snake and now want to be able to distribute it. I built it using C++ and wxWidgets so it would be multi-platform. I'm able to compile it and run it in both Windows and Ubuntu using g++. In windows, I was able to distribute it by putting a *.dll file in the same folder as the executable. However in Linux, I don't understand what I need to do so that it would run on any installation of Ubuntu out of the "box". When I build it and try to run it in a different installation of Ubuntu (which has g++) it gives me an error saying that a particular library file was not found and Getlibs fails to find that library file.

Is there a way to build a project with G++ so that all the dependencies are either packaged in the executables or copied into the folder....?
