I'm running a CentOS 5.2 vm on a W2K8 hyper-v core server. The problem I have is that when I reboot, the system time always resets itself to 6:00 am in the morning. I tried the /sbin/hwclock --systohc command but it hasn't taken hold.

I have a Centos 5.2 VM running under Windows 2008 Hyper-V. If I add two "legacy Nic's" and bridge them, everything appears to work fine. However, if I remove the legacy nics and replace them with two synthetic nics (linux integration components), the nics seems to function fine UNTIL I add them to a bridge.This VM will eventually be used as a DansGuardian/Squid transparent proxy for a local library. The logical layout is represented by the attached jpg image. I have also included the ifcfg- scripts for the adapters and bridge for both scenarios.It would also be useful if someone else has Hyper-V with the integration components and dual physical nics to see if they can reproduce my symptoms on their box.Legacy Adapters:

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am hosting two Virtual Servers both running Centos 5.3 on a host machine also running the same OS. The VM software in use is Xen, as supplied with the OS.The host machine's time and date is fine, however both Virtual Servers are running ahead of real time consitantly.Running /etc/init.d/ntpd restart will resolve the issue however one of these is running MailScanner and when the time suddenly goes backwards, sometimes by as much as an hour, it stops working properly.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have 2.6.18-164.2.1.e15 running on Hyper-v. I did yum update and noticed that kernel is upgraded to 2.6.18-164.9.1.e15. If I try to boot into the new kernel it hangs with message first "switchroot mount failed" and then "kernel panic". This is probably related to Hyper-v drivers installed in the old kernel. First question: Do you think this is correct? Is it possible to somehow disable Hyper-v drivers so I can boot into the new kernel and then reinstall drivers? There is nothing in Microsoft documentation about uninstalling Linux Integration Components.

I am *finally* getting around to rebuilding my file-sharing computer. I'll be sharing files with both Linux and Windoze machines. It's a home network, so there's nothing fancy needed. I know I have to tweak my smb.conf file until I'm satisfied with the features and security. I'm using SWAT and I'm starting with a bare-bones conf file. It's not secure but I can see the server and selected files/directories from my other Linux box.
My really dumb question is, do I have to reboot both the server and the client machines every time I change the SAMBA configuration? I thought I just had to stop and restart the SAMBA service in the SWAT software - but then the server disappears from my client. It looks like I need to reboot both machines for the client to see the server.
I run a centos 5.6 guest (webserver) in a KVM VM on centos 5.6. When I lost my gnome desktop, I received the suggestion to remove the gconfd stuff and reboot. I found two gconfd directories in /tmp and removed them. Now the webserver VM reboots contineously. I forced down the VM, rebooted the base system etc., but that did not help at all.

I reboot the server and centos dose its normal checking everything and giving a Green"OK" or Red"Error" and everything seems to be fine. I then get to a black screen with a X mouse cursor, i can move the cursor freely and i can turn the Num Lock key on and off and i can do a Ctrl+Alt+F5 and then reboot with a Ctrl+Alt+Del smoothly, but i just cant get the centos to boot up all the way into the GUI.
View 16 Replies View RelatedWe have a Centos 5.6 server mounting two iSCSI volumes from an HP P2000 storage array. Multipathd is also running, and this has been working well for the few months we have been using it. The two volumes presented to the server were created in LVM, and worked without problem.We had a requirement to reboot the server, and now the iSCSI volumes will no longer mount. From what I can tell, the iSCSI connection is working ok, as I can see the correct sessions, and if I run 'fdisk -l' I can see the iSCSI block devices, but the O/S isn't seeing the filesystems. Any LVM command does not show the volumes at all, and 'vgchange -a y' only lists the local boot volume, not the iSCSI volumes. My concern is that, the output of 'fdisk -l' says 'Disk /dev/xxx doesn't contain a valid partition table' for all the iSCSI devices. Research shows that performing the vgchange -a y command should automatically mount any VG's that aren't showing, but it doesn't work.
There's a lot of data on these iSCSI volumes, and I'm no LVM expert. I've read that some have had problems where LVM starts before iSCSI and things get a bit messed up, but I don't know if this is the case here (I can't tell), but if there's a way of switching this round that might help, I'm prepared to give it a go.There was absolutely no indication there were any problems with these volumes, so corruption is highly unlikely.

(I can go to the Internet with this server, but not able to communicate other computers on the WRT54G Wireless Network. Even though, the Linux Server is connected to the WRT54G router port.) From the Hyper Terminal Wireless laptop Windows/XP, I want to connect to my Linux Server.
Centos 5.3 includes Ext4 and improved support for encrypted file systems but it appears to be aimed at laptop/desktop systems, in that a password must be entered at boot time.
Is it possible to have a server with an encrypted root file system boot up without entering a password?

Alternatively, the data that *really* needs to be protected could be encrypted while the system core remains unencrypted. But then the keys to decrypt the file system must be stored in the unencrypted portion, so this is not an effective method.
I have two boxes that were originally used as workstations at a school - they upgraded and sold these.The two boxes are identical parts - Lenovo NetVista M42. I installed 5.3, installed RPMforge per the wiki instructions, did a yum -y update && shutdown -h now.The next day I turned the machine on and installed the UT2004 dedicated server. After a few hours I tried logging in via SSH - I could enter my user and password, but could not get farther. I rebooted the server. After another day the same thing happened. I moved the disk from the first box to the second and moved /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0.bak to ifcfg-eth0 but retaining the correct MAC address.
During this transition where the server "locks up" some things work and others do not. For example, if I type ping 4.2.2.2, wait 10 minutes and CTRL+C it looks like this (note the time of 0ms).
I am installing CentOS 5.5 64 bit on a HP ProLiant server. The server has a configuration of 2 TB(500x4) HDD and 8 GB RAM. RAID 5 is enabled and mirroring is also going on. I made 7 partitions. Those are:
/boot - 200MB
/ - 80GB
Swap - 20GB
/usr - 100GB

The problem i am facing is it takes too much time to format 100GB partitions while installing packages (during installation).
2 times now our server has randomly shut down. Completely powered off as if the power cable was pulled or something. Both around the same time. 7:30ish. Once was on Friday June 5th, then last night, Wednesday June 10th.

I have a CentOS 5.3 server. All of the other computers I have are Windows or Ubuntu. The Ubuntu machines sync to the time on the CentOS machine correctly. The problem is, some of the windows 2000 Pro and Windows XP Pro machines are an hour off when they sync. The CentOS machine is set to New York time.
When I run: (Assume the time is currently 10:06 AM on the server) net time \xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx /set /yes
On the correct machines I get the message:
Current time at \xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is 11/1/2010 10:06 AM
The command completed successfully.
But on the other machines I get:
Current time at \xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is 11/1/2010 9:06 AM
Local time (GTM-04:00) at \xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is 11/1/2010 10:06 AM
The command completed successfully.
Then the time on the windows computer is 9:06 instead of 10:06.
Is there something that needs changed on the CentOS Machine for the times to be correct?
I am trying to sync the time on my Centos 5 box, but I do not want to sync the date. All of our servers need to have the clocks synced, but one system needs to have the date set to the previous day.

I have never had the packaged vsftpd start with the ssl_enable option set to YES. The mysql on those servers works just fine with SSL enabled. After reading there seems to be a different package available on rh5 repo. This server shows up to date with 2.0.5-12.el5_3.1. The rh5 list shows 2.0.5-16_el5 per this:[URL].. My question is, is there a set lead time till adoption of current RH packages or is just random? I have to have SSL_ftp running and didn't want to step out of the repo lists if possible.

I restored a whole filesystem from a backup using rdiff-backup and made it bootable from a modified CentOS 5 CD ROM.All works well except all the files have SeLinux context ofroot:object_r:file_t:s0I tried rebooting with .autorelable and it seems to take no time and reboots immediately after starting. After, there is no change in the contexts of the files.I also tried fixfiles and restorecon with and without selinux enabled and in all cases it takes no time and returns no error code i.e. it does nothing. Nothing in the system log either.
