i seen to have a trouble with samba, i cant get more than 50MB/s in one file, if i copy 3 files it goes around 90MB/s. Is this a samba limitation? Can i get full network bandwith with one file transfer?

Well, it works but, the user will see that the size of the file is bigger than the real file. Apparently, CIFS gets the size of the symbolic link (aproxim.32K) and add it to the size of the file.Example 1: 100KB file, used with shared folder, MS-Windows's user will see 100KBExample 2: 100KB file, used with symbolic link inside a shared folder, MS-Windows's user will see 132KB. I am trying to deploy a very simple file server in my company's network.The goal is just to have a file server with DAT backup, nothing more.I managed to configure Samba to show a share visible in the Windows network, with free read and write to everyone. For this I configured "Autentication Mode = user", and read/write access to all users in the specified share.
Of course, I would like to have the possibility to establish permissions based in AD-users. For that, I tried to add my CentOS machine to AD.I followed the guide in:

I can get the kerberos "kinit" command to autenticate in Windows AD: I can access the Windows machines in the network as administrator and "klist" shows the valid ticket.But, when trying the "join", I always get the "No logon servers" error.I googled around for this, and it seems that this is a common error and there is no "magic approach" for it...
So, my questions are:
- Can this be achieved only by the Samba configuration tool (Gui)? I think not, as we need to change kerberos settins
- What would be the correct settings for krb5.conf?
- Are there any other services/files needed to adjust?
which file can setup up my network interfaces? i was able to setup the nameserver using /etc/resolv.conf but I cannot find anywhere to configure the ip and and gateway. I could't find /etc/network/interfaces as you do on Debian

Redirecting messages was easy, but now I'm having difficulties to redirect those same messages received from Linksys to a separate log file. By default, all these messages are logged to /var/log/messages, and after browsing manual pages for syslog, syslog.conf, and syslogd, came to suspect that what I want isn't possible.

Subsequently, for an unrelated reason, I restarted dnsmasq, but it failed because /etc/dnsmasq.d didn't exist. It looks like my /etc/dnsmasq.conf file now includes "conf-dir=/etc/dnsmasq.d" at the end. Since dnsmasq was starting and I didn't remove dnsmasq.d, I assume this line was added by the update. Commenting the line resolves the issue.
An alternative hypothesis, given that I don't really know what the state of /etc/dnsmasq.conf and /etc/dnsmasq.d/ was before the update, might be that the directory did exist, but was removed by the update. I find this the least likely of my 2 stated hypotheses. (There are other hypotheses, but I think they are even less likely). Am I correct is concluding the conf-dir line was added by the update? If so, shouldn't the updated RPM create the directory during install?
I've been racking my brains over the past few days trying to figure out why my NIC card (network interface card) won't show up in the ifcfg-eth0 file.When I configure a new server (like this one) I always go to:/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 and from there I usally see the name of my NIC's manufacturer's name and the hardware MAC address.Then it's only a simple process of entering the server's IP address, netmask and gateway and I'm up and running in no time...But not in this case! the ifcfg-eth0 file is completely blank! There's not ONE single line of config info in it... (?)The server runs an Intel core 2 duo (dual-core) CPU with 1 gig of RAM.
I've even re-formatted the drive and re-installed Centos 5.1 on the darn thing 3 times and it simply won't work.The server cannot resolve when I do a wgetIt also gives me a 'resolution problem in the named configuration'.What I don't understand is that the 2 small LEDs on the Cat 5 cable lights up and flash at what appear to be regular intervals here.

I run a VMware clone of CentOS 5.3, I observe that kudzu [i.e. /etc/init.d/kudzu, from /etc/rc3.d/S05kudzu or /etc/rc5.d/S05kudzu] detects a MAC address change on eth0 and then creates a /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0.bak file. This .bak file is identical to the original ifcfg-eth0 file except for the value of the HWADDR [i.e. MAC address] parameter. I would be unconcerned but for the fact that /usr/bin/neat indicates that both ifcfg-eth0 AND ifcfg-eth0.bak are 'Active'. The following solution may help others with the same (or similar) problem:

How can I go by doing that and also setting up an apache server to be able to connect through network. Right now I have apache/linux/mysql running it works when i go to localhost, but I would also like to let all the computers in office to access it. I would guess that will deal with virtual host which I know how to setup. I just need to setup an IP.

The program creates a service on a specific port, then attempts to connect to it based on the host name. So my hosts file has to be correct.I added the nameservers to resolv.conf and now my application will not run. My guess is that the computer is checking the name servers first, timing out then checking the hosts file.Is there a way I can tell the system to check the hosts file first, then DNS. I thought it should behave that way by default, but it does not appear to.

What i want to be able to do is create a custom kickstart for my centOS 5 server. I want to create a bootable cd that I can pop in my server and basically walk away for 45 minutes and I come back and its fully installed. All the directions I have read so far tell me that I have to create a seperate ks.cfg and then I need my original centos cd to get it booted. Then the cd will ask for where the ks.cfg file is and I have to type the location. I just want to pop the CD in and type in linux_clean or something and have it perform a custom install based on the information and specification in my ks.cfg. How can I go about doing this?

I have a Centos 5.2 VM running under Windows 2008 Hyper-V. If I add two "legacy Nic's" and bridge them, everything appears to work fine. However, if I remove the legacy nics and replace them with two synthetic nics (linux integration components), the nics seems to function fine UNTIL I add them to a bridge.This VM will eventually be used as a DansGuardian/Squid transparent proxy for a local library. The logical layout is represented by the attached jpg image.
