General :: LDAP: Ldapsearch Can't Return More Than 500 Results; Also, Can't Find Slapd.conf?

Feb 20, 2010

If I do something to the effect of this:ldapsearch -b "dc=example,dc=com" -x -z 3000

I'll get this back at the end of the result set:
# search result
search: 2
result: 4 Size limit exceeded

The thing is is that I have way more (thousands) than what's being displayed here. And I've tried to mess around with /etc/ldap.conf, changing the SIZELIMIT directive to something else, 10000, let's say, and restarting the server, but the same goddamn thing happens.

I've been messing around with this for quite some time now, hopefully someone will be able to shed some light on this so that I can learn my way out of this mess that is LDAP. Also in a related matter, I'm running Mint (based off of Ubuntu), and all the documentation that I've seen (probably read a good 100+ pages in a few days now on this) keeps telling me to make changes to my slapd.conf file. What slapd.conf file? It doesn't exist, I can't find it at least. find / -name slapd.conf turns up nothing.

CentOS 5 :: Centos 5.4, Firefox And Adobereader Plugin, Disabled Input Fields?

Dec 4, 2009

we are using firefox-3.0.15 from the CentOS-Repository and the adobereader plugin from the adobe-repository. We have a curious problem with adobereader-plugin in firefox. When a pdf document is displayed via the plugin, i.e. within a tab in firefox, all input fields are disabled. I cannot enter a search string or fill in fields. The cursor and page up/down keys are also disabled. But when I configure firefox to open pdf documents with the external acroreader, everything works fine.

Additional notes:* We are just migrating from SuSE. Some user profiles are working as expected without problems. Unfortunately, I was not able to figure out the important files: I traced all of firefox' file operations on the user profiles, but there are no significant differences between working and non-working profiles (I just compared filenames, not content).* the same adobe-plugin works with firefox 3.0.15 from mozilla.org* I also set up a clean i386-Centos 5.4 from original CD, SELinux disabled, updated and created standard user. I only added the adobe-repository. The same effect, no search avaible.

Ubuntu :: Pdftk Output File With Pages Extracts Same Size As Input File?

Apr 22, 2011

I am curious if perhaps I am doing something wrong extracting pages from a pdf doc using pdftk and creating a new file. I am only extracting the odd pages from the file and outputting them to a new file that is now only 20 pages instead of the input's 40 pages, yet the new output file is still 1.4Mb in size, the same as the original.

It seems strange to extract only half the pages of a large document and end up with a result that is the same size. how to streamline the resulting pdf's using pdftk?

BTW this is the command I am using, in case perhaps I am missing an option to optimize file size or something:

Code:
pdftk A=ch15.pdf cat A1-40odd output odd.pdf

I have a 7.2 GB file (VMWare virtual machine file) that I am trying to copy from its original location to the another folder OR to external hard drive...each time I try to do this, I always get the following error after the copying process reach 'exactly' 1.4 GB

And I have to either Cancel or Skip

I've tried to split the files to smaller pieces but the idea didn't work as I still get the same error whenever I try to compress/ split or do any operation with this file. how I can copy this file?

Programming :: Splitting A File Based On The Values Read From An Input File?

Jul 27, 2010

I am splitting a file based on the values read from an input file. The below one is the script.

1)How do I add the header which is present in the original file to the new split files created?(For eg. pharmacyf conatins header as table column names. The new files created (ODS.POS.$pharmacyid.$tablename.$CURRENT_DATE.dat) are without the header).

2) Also the script is creating 0 byte files for the pharmacyids which are not available in the intial file? Can this be avoided?

for pharmacyf in *
do
tablename=`echo $pharmacyf |cut -f4 -d'.' `
while read pharmacyid
do
grep -w $pharmacyid $pharmacyf >> $OUT/ODS.POS.$pharmacyid.$tablename.$CURRENT_DATE.dat

Server :: NFS Large File Copies Fail - Error Writing To File: Input/output Error?

Jun 27, 2009

I recently upgraded my file/media server to Fedora 11. After doing so, I can no longer copy large files to the server. The files begin to transfer, but typically after about 1gb of the file has transferred, the transfer stalls and ultimately fails with the message:

"Error writing to file: Input/output error"

I've run out of ideas as to what could cause this problem. I have tried the following:

1. Different NFS versions: NFS3 and NFS4
2. Tried copying the files to different physical drives on the server.
3. Tried copying the files from different physical drives on the client.
4. Tried different rsize and wsize block sizes when mounting the NFS share
5. Tried copying the files via a different protocol. SSH in this case. The file transfers are always successful when I use SSH.

Regardless of what I do, the result is the same. The file transfers always fail after approximately 1gb.

Some other notes.

1. Both the client and the server are running Fedora 11 kernel 2.6.29.5-191.fc11.x86_64

I am out of ideas. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

CentOS 5 :: EBS Volume - Input / Output Error

Feb 24, 2011

We are running an C++ application in AWS EC2 instance (CentOS 5.4) mounted with an EBS Volume (say /mymountpoint). We do more simultaneous writes to the EBS Volume from our application. But at some point we get 'ERROR: Input/output error'. After this, 'ls -l /mymountpoint' command itself fails with the i/o error. The filesystem which we use for the EBS Volume is xfs. I unmounted the drive and done xfs_check and again mounted the drive. Now, everything seems to be working fine. But the issue still persists everytime when we do simultaneous writes.

I believe the following details will be useful,
[root@domU-12-31-39-07-81-36 StoreGrid]# cat /etc/redhat-release

CentOS 5 :: How To Get X264 To Work With Lavf Input Support

Nov 23, 2010

My system is CentOS 5.5 x86_32, and I am currently trying to get the x264 video encoder to work and to read libav* input, like elementary H.264 streams. All the prebuilt x264 binaries seem to come without lavf and/or ffms support, and I was unable to build ffmpeg/ffmpegsource on my system. So these x264 versions only support RAW YUV 4:2:0 input, which is of no use to me. I would like to use the x264 binary itself, as it seems that ffmpeg+libx264 does not have option mappings for all the options I could give to x264 directly.

Is there any pre-built x264, that supports lavf/libavcodec for reading H.264 input? Or is there a good, working guide on how to build that on CentOS 5? When trying to build latest ffmpeg (trying to get ffms/lavf dependencies on my system), it tells me, that my "pkg-config" is too old, and that I should set FFMPEG_CFLAGS and FFMPEG_LIBS to work around the issue. No idea what I should do here.

Then, when trying latest ffmpegsource (again, to get the ffms/lavf deps satisfied), it tells me I do not have libx264. Maybe here my version is too old or something. I installed libx264_98, maybe wrong version.

Ah, the output of x264's configure script looks like this:

Platform: X86
System: LINUX
asm: yes
avs: no

CentOS 5 :: Ssh Login Drops Letter E From Input At The Prompt?

Dec 3, 2010

A strange problem has surfaced with my CentOS 5.5 Rackspace Cloud Server. I was doing OK until today. For some strange reason, whenever I login to the server, using ssh and pub/priv key authorization, or password authorization for that matter, the letter E (that's an uppercase 'e') does not echo at the prompt line, it just beeps like an error. At the login prompt, before signing in, the letter E is echoed to the terminal window. I'm using an iMac, OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) and the standard Mac terminal application.

This behavior does not occur when using the terminal app locally, i.e., logged into the iMac, and all other applications on the Mac are OK with 'E's. To further test the issue, I used the Java console app that Rackspace provides through a browser (I use Firefox, latest revision). Before logging in, the login prompt will accept and echo 'E'. As soon as I authenticate and get to a system prompt, anytime I press a Shift-e, I get a beep and no echo to the terminal command line. It doesn't matter who I login as, root or another user.

To further confuse things, if I start up an instance of nano in that very same terminal window, nano accepts and echoes the 'E'! Using nano, I've created a short bash script file:

#!/bin/bash
echo "ABCDEFG"

and it echoes properly when run.

Any clues as to where I might look to resolve this bizarre behavior?

My getinfo.sh system specs are here here.

Debian :: Input File For Pdftk?

Apr 21, 2011

This is a question for those that use pdftk. I've been using it for about the last year or so to combine manipulate PDFs and it is awesome. Until today, mostly what I've been using it for has been for less than five files. Today I have been working on a manual at work which consists of about 100 separate files with a total page count of 167. The pages are a mix of 8.5x11(inch) and 11x17(inch). The pages needed to be in a specific order, the only way I could think of to do this instead doing this all in the CLI, I created a text file which contained a list or sequence of the files. To make it easier for me to read and group, I first put each file on a separate line.

This allowed me to quickly copy and paste a location from Dolphin / Konqueror etc. into and from Amarok for quick access across multiple applications (Especially when sorting out things). Somehow this is either missing (Not possible anymore) or I am to impatient or stupid figuring this out.

Programming :: C - User To Input The Name Of A File As An Argument

Aug 5, 2010

Write a program that requires the user to input the name of a file as an argument. If the user fails to include one argument it should make use of a thread that handles a signal. The signal handler should tells the user Incorrect number of arguments and then calls the terminate signal on the process.

If the numbers of arguments are correct then the program should allocate memory space to the file (5MB) and create a child process that requests the user for a character that it should send to the parent. The child should keep request for data until the user keys in the character O. During each request it should pause for 10 seconds, send the character to the parent and then requesting again for another character.

The parent should get the character from the child. Do not make the parent wait for the child to finish requesting for data. Make use of pipes to facilitate communication between the parent and the child. A second child should be created to read and display data from the file. Make use of any appropriate Inter Process Communication technique to ensure that the second child and the parent do not access the file simultaneously (Mutual exclusion).

Gray Code G(A)of any value A can be easily produced from unsigned binary B(A) using the expression: G(A) = B(A) ^ ( B(A) >> 1 ) (1) The formula may be used to generate coding tables. For example for 4-bit codes:

Table 1. Coding table

Hex Value Binary Gray

1 0001 0001
2 0010 0011

If the first option is selected, your program shall prompt the user to enter the file name and open the specified file. In this assignment you can presume that the file size is always limited to 64 bytes. If the file is not found, the program shall display a message: File not found and display the menu, so the user can enter file name correctly or exit the program.

Ubuntu :: Canot Remove File Input/output Error

I got a new HDD like a Storage on my Ubuntu ,it is formated as ext3 and i am able to mount it ,but sometimes while downloading from FTP ,when the session broke Ubuntu crates some ./afternature.mp4 Input/output error ,which i can see on "ls -l" ,and that causes great troubles to me ,because i can not copy or write on that disk another file with the same one which is created like this ,these error are gone only if i format the hdd .

My mounting command is "mount /dev/hdb3 /tmp/hd ext3 rw 0 0" So is that possible to remove these error without formatting the disk . PS:I did a lot of search for that error ,on unix forums also here but i didn`t find a concrete answer ,i found a thread which is for that case but removing with inode is impossible because on ls -l i`m not receiving the inode .
