CentOS 5 Hardware :: SATA Error - When Kernel Is Loading

Jul 29, 2009

I've installed CentOS 5.3 in a new machine....

But i got these errors when kernel is loading

The machine is a dual core 2.6 Ghz, mainboard is intel DG31PR, SATA disk SAMsung 500 GB, 4 GB RAM.

I've checked other errors in different distributions, but everyone has a different criteria about the problem.

Debian Installation :: No More SATA - Releases Freeze Up Almost Instantly After Loading The Kernel

Apr 13, 2011

I'm trying to install Debian 6.0.1a (64bit) onto a machine that had Debian 5.08. It freezes up almost immediately after loading the kernel. The last line, about 2.6 seconds in, is where it found a SATA drive. (There are two SATA drives). This is a Tyan S2912 with Opteron 2347HE. It seems to be kernel release related. I tried the 5.08 disc again, and it works OK.

With other distros, such as Opensuse and Ubuntu, I have the same problem. The newer releases freeze up almost instantly after loading the kernel. Am I stuck with IDE drives or older kernels? I wanted to try something newer as the fonts in the 5.0.8 release were barely legible. It gave me nauseating headaches within a couple of hours of looking at it. My wife couldn't stand to see it when she came by. I've tried every bios setting change I could think of without a solution.

CentOS 5 Hardware :: Error Installing CentOS 5.2 On ICH7R With 4 SATA HDDs RAID 5?

The installer can't see my raid controller (I assume) as I'm getting the following error:"Error opening /dev/mapper/isw_jbhgjgjj_Vol0: No such device or address"It just sees them as 4 individual drives: sda, sdb, sdc and sdd. Please note that I have set up the RAID 5 in the controller bios interface and the image name is Vol0, which it seems that it tries to load but for some particular reason it can't.I have also tried different bios settings and nothing worked.

Ubuntu :: SATA II / Error "ata4: Limiting SATA Link Speed To 1.5 Gbps" - Allowing The SSD To Run At SATA II Speeds?

May 1, 2011

I keep getting this error in my log viewer every 2 seconds: Code: ata4: limiting SATA link speed to 1.5 Gbps I have a dual boot SSD and I have run many SMART tests in windows and linux, (using smartmon tools and the disk utility) and the reports are all 100% healthy..... My research shows that this error represents one of the following:

1. Problem with SATA controller
2. Changing BIOS to allow SATA
3. Changing SATA mode to PATA or AHCI
4. Replacing the SATA cable
5. Allowing the SSD to run at SATA II speeds, i.e. 3 Gbps

- Does anyone know how to try number 5, i.e. allowing the SSD to run at SATA II speeds? I am lost here and this problem has caused my machine to crash twice when watching a movie in linux/ ubuntu. (It is worth noting that the crashes have only occurred in linux and I have never had an issue in windows, so it does seem to be a linux setting somewhere, hence why I think it is a "allowing SATA II to run at correct speeds issue")

In our company, we have one server with kernel, 2.6.18. because of our neads, we had to buy new hard disk, that slax live cd detects that as "Ibex Peak 2 port SATA IDE Controlle".Apparently this kernel does not support this device.Unfortunately according to our policy(definitely some dependency on company's softwares installed on this kernel) we can not upgrade our kernel.

CentOS 5 :: Error While Loading Shared Libraries : Libsqlite3.so.0 / Fix It?

Mar 13, 2010

System: CentOS 54 x86_64

While installing a software, I had to update the sqlite version that comes by default with the distribution (3.3 if I'm not mistaken). I had to uninstall sqlite and sqlite-devel with a "rpm --nodeps" because there were several dependencies ... I took the chance.

I then installed a new sqlite version from source (http://www.sqlite.org/sqlite-amalgamation-3.6.17.tar.gz) and it went ok apparently.

Soon after I noticed problems in some critical programs like httpd, yum, rpm ... all of them failing with the following error:
error while loading shared libraries: libsqlite3.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory code...

If there's a solution, how can I solve this big mess?

CentOS 5 :: Kernel Error Using Pci=noacpi

Jun 21, 2009

I have an HP Netserver LT 6000r - 6cpus (PIII, 700Mhz), 8GB RAM, 4 72GB SCSI

running Centos 5.2 - BIOS and firmware is latest.

Booting Centos 5.2, get errors in boot saying to reboot using the "pci=noacpi" flag. Whe I do this, I get a kernel panic, fatal, and the system will no longer boot, just keeps rebooting. If I boot without the flag, it will eventually come up, without monitor console, screen goes black, but I can SSH into the system, so the OS is running, I just do not have a console to log into.

I am trying to get X running so I can at least get some kind of GUI interface, but I am a neophyte with X. I have Xming, so could anyone tell me what to change on the Centos server to allow X to my winodws box, also, why the recommended pci=noacpi flag does not work, in fact makes thing worse?

Hardware :: SATA Error -> Sys Hard Reboot On Suse 11.3. Board + Hdd Changed - Error

Feb 1, 2011

i actually registered here because i'm done with my knowledge of linux, errors which cause my sys to hang and/or reboot randomly after some time. They occur while the system is under heavy cpu, heavy mem-read-write, mediocre mem fill, heavy hdd io (for ~20 seconds every ~5 minutes).

problem background we ordered two identical PCs (specs below), one of them brought those sata errors quoted below from /var/log/messages, the other one runs flawlessly. Same Hardware and Software Configuration. Faulty one brought reallocated sectors right at start, mass seek errors, read errors. 1st try: swap cables, change bios mode ata_piix <-> AHCI. Didn't work. Went away for repair. Stupid Techie did only swap hdd, so problems occured again. Shipping for repair again. Board AND hdd exchanged. no more seek/read errors, no more reallocated sectors. But similar sata problems right after 3 days of previously described workload. Following logs are from after the last repair.

Hardware :: Getting Kernel To Use The AHCI SATA Driver?

Jan 20, 2010

How can I force my kernel to use the ahci driver when both the ahci & sata_nv are built into the kernel.?

My MSI board bios doesn't have an option for "AHCI MODE". The only sata option that it has is "called "On Chip Sata" & is located under "Integrated Peripherals. Also, the only values available for "On Chip Sata" are enabled or disabled. If I choose the disabled option, the sata drives arn't found & bootup fails.

I tried to tell the kernel to use the ahci driver by appending kernel options to my Grub2 bootloader but they all failed.

(eg.) ahci, scsi=ahci, ata=ahci, ahci.=0 sd=ahci
sata_nv=no, sata_nv=0, sata_nv=none

The only thing I can think of that is left to do is to re-build my kernel with CONFIG_SATA_NV as a loadable module & CONFIG_AHCI as a build-in driver. With only the ahci driver available at boot, the kernel will have to use it or fail to boot.

One more thing I want to say is that my other computer with the ASUS motherboard uses the ahci driver & I have both the sata_via & the ahci drivers built into the kernel. However, it has a bios option for AHCI MODE.

(eg.) Southbridge VT8251
Serial ATA IDE Controller <AHCI>

Debian :: Grub Load Error "Grub Loading Stage1.5. Grub Loading, Please Wait... Error 15"

May 23, 2010

When I try and boot my Debian computer I get the messages: Grub Loading stage1.5. Grub loading, please wait... Error 15 Is there any way of recovering from this - or is it simply a fresh install? I was attempting an upgrade from Lenny to Squeeze and despite a few hurdles it looked like it was all happening. Got the new kernel loading, and the new grub. It looked as though grub2 was working so I ran the grub-remove-legacy-support command (something like that) and now my computer won't boot grub or Linux.

I'm assuming the MBR on my harddrive is lost, however I don't know what state the partition is in. I'm guessing that maybe this has been lost as well. I tried a few tools from the Ultimate Boot CD but nothing here was able to re-install my grub or boot from any partition or even mount my file-system. I'm fearing the worst but would like it confirmed before I blow it all away with a new install.

Intel ICH9R chipset
JMicron JMB363 PATA / SATA RAID controller

I've tried to install both Debian 5.0.3 and Gentoo 10.1 (Minimal). The Gentoo distro kernel is 2.6.31. I honestly didn't check to see what version the Debian distro is using. With both distributions, I get a kernel panic as soon as I try to create the filesystem. I can see the drives just fine, and can partition them. The problem doesn't happen until I try to create a filesystem. I've tried configuring my SATA drives in the BIOS as IDE and as RAID. kernel support for SATA drives is at least three years old, so I have to believe that SATA support has become ubiquitous, but obviously I'm missing something here.

CentOS 5 Hardware :: Moving From IDE To SATA?

May 27, 2009

This might be a common topic but searching yielded me no results. I am trying to take one of my NAS servers from an IDE hard disk to a new SATA hard disk. Reinstalling the OS is not an option. I have a working system and have cloned the disk using Acronis True Image to a SATA hard disk.

First, Grub has to be reinstalled which is no problem. I have done this and it works just fine. My SATA drive is booting through Grub and attempting to load CentOS. Obviously the problem lies in that my original drive is /dev/hda and my new disk is /dev/sda

I have changed the following to try and correct the issue:
/boot/grub/menu.lst
/boot/grub/device.map
/etc/fstab

The new disk is still having problems booting. I have attempted before to create a new inittab but I am not sure it was successful and I encountered the same issues. After booting via Grub, here is the message that I receive

Unable to access resume device (LABEL=SWAP-hda3)
mount: could not find filesystem '/dev/root'
setuproot: moving /dev failed: No such file or directory

[Code]...

There must be some places that still reference hda. That first line of the panic message talks about SWAP-hda3. I have changed an entry like that in the Grub config but it still shows up at boot time.

It passes all the tests in diagnostics. I've tried booting off of the ubuntu cd I used to load it initially with no luck. Ubuntu Servers :: Can't Login To 10.04 LTS With Error Sh: Error While Loading Shared Libraries

Dec 23, 2010

I recently setup a new server that serves files over samba and is a subversion repository for a number of projects. I did a simple apt-get update/upgrade for which the system requested a reboot. After I rebooted, I got to the login prompt, at which point I ran into a problem. After I enter my correct credentials, it spits out the following error:

sh: error while loading shared libraries libc.so.6: cannot open shared object file: Error 24

and returns me to the login prompt. Samba and Subversion are both still working, I simply can't login to the server either physically or via SSH.

What steps should I be taking to correct this issue? My thoughts are that I may need to use a Live CD to load the system and perhaps do another update, but before I go through that process I just wanted to check in and see if there might be some other solution.

I have tried googling the issue, and while I have seen other posts regarding shared library issues, there was never anything about not being able to login and I never did find anything specific to the error message I received.
