View 8 RepliesI have been trying to mount an NFS share from my REHL server for over an hour, and Google was not able to help me. when I use the command:
mount -t nfs server3:/programs /programs
I get the folowing error :
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on server3:/programs,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error
(for several filesystems (e.g. nfs, cifs) you might
need a /sbin/mount.<type> helper program)

I am writing as yesterday, my fourth hard drive within 2 years crashed. Is that normal? One was crashing 2 years ago, one in winter 2009 and 2 just within 2 weeks. What can be the reason for so many crashes? I heard maybe the power supply? How can I find out if that's broken? The voltages at least in BIOS seem normal. The SATA controller? How do I know if its broken? Can I just but one PCI-E card with SATA adapters? Is it the motherboard? Theres not much more in my computer... As well, its wired that my good-old 160 GB drive never crashed, only constantly the bigger ones. Here some typical error code from mount and dmesg:

I have a x64 OpenSUSE server with two hard drivers installed. The first one is used for the / and /home partitions and the other is for backups. Ironically enough it is the backup hard drive I am having trouble with. I was having trouble writting to the drive and unmounted it to preform a fchsk, however now when ever I try to mount it I get the following error:

i used to have ubuntu 9.i decided to move to sabayon so i used the live cd to install it ,resize the ubuntu partition and use the remaining space for sabayon.while the resizing procedure i got an error(i dont have a copy of the error log file but i know it has something to do with an anaconda process).i aborted the installation and the result was an filesystem that couldnt be mounted.when i try to mount the hdd i get this:

The HDD is a 500GB internal SATA, The smart claims that the "file system is not clean" but is still green.FSCK ran a few errors and using fsck i copied a new superblock from a backup location, It still won't let me mount and FSCK is still trying to fix a TON of errors. I'm sorry I don't know any of this yet, but I'm concerned that FSCK could be destroying the data on the drive, for example photos and other important things. FSCK is coming with a lot of things to fix, It's gone from trying to fix errors in free blocks of group #1 to over #3000.. Is this safe? Will this work? Can I get rid of whatever caused this problem in the first place?

I am trying to make a copy of the SD card that my TS-7800 SBC boots from. When I plug the SD into my opensuse pc I get this error. View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter several crashes during videos it seemed like a good idea to fsck root. Downloaded the latest systemrescuecd and ran it at boot. The error message was 'bad magic number, corrupt superblock' with a suggested command to try another superblock. That failed with the same message. Tried tune2fs to force fsck at boot and got the same message. The drive is less than 6 months old and the installed system is working more or less ok. The command I used was 'fsck.ext4 /dev/sdc2'. What am I doing wrong?

I have a brand new Dell PowerEdge T110 server with Quad-Core Xeon CPU and 2GB 1333MHz RAM. I have installed a hard disk (SATA, 7.2rpm) on this machine that I removed from another Dell PowerEdge T100 server with Dual-Core Xeon CPU that was running software RAID 1.
Now when I boot the new T110 server, it displays the following error messages code...
I am running CentOs v5.5 x86-64. If I put the hard disk back into T100, it boots fine. I do not know why it is not working with T110 server.
I have two internal hard drives.I just installed Debian Lenny in the smaller 80GB. But when I try to access the other hard drive it shows:

I got a CentOS server + KDE from a server (which I had no contact until now), he had 2 HD's one for the system and another for files.
I brought the HD system home to try to make it run on a virual machine (VMware) so I can do some testing before you put in practice.
But already converted the VMware HD to the system, it tries to start but it shows some errors and in a message "kernel panic - not syncing: attemped to kill init"
I think the drivers are correct, has edited the file "/ etc / modprobe.conf" edited these entries equal to another I installed CentOS on VMware.

We do use kickstart configuration file to customize the CentOS installation. In the partitioning screen, I do see a check box for encryption (encrypting the disk blocks).
I want to remove this checkbox in my kickstart configuration file. What is the option to use to get rid of this checkbox.
I've just made the switch from Ubuntu to Debian Squeeze and am having trouble connecting external media (be it a USB stick or an ext HD). The error I am getting when I connect anything via usb is the following:

I switched today to slackware-current on one of my desktops to play with it and ran directly into a problem.
Since ages my lilo.conf has two entries for slackware. One for runlevel 3 and one for runlevel 4.

Since the upgrade this is no more possible because I get a kernel panic as soon as udevadm trigger is called. The stack says something about an unknown boot option. Because that i removed the append lines from my lilo.conf and i was able to boot the system. The crash happens when udev is called from within the ramdisk and afterwards. I tried both.
My question is now. Is this a bug in udev or expected? I have this setup since at least 5 years and had never problems with that. What do I have to do to be able to select the runlevel at boot time?
I plugged in USB(single fat32 partiton of 2GB) and got message window Cannot mount volume. Invalid mount option when attempting to mount the volume.

Also did check in gparted , dosfsck and fsck.vfat but no errors reported.
Trying to mount my USB stick and getting a superblock error.. Tried a command in the terminal but it said only "ROOT" can access command...How do I get to "ROOT"...??? See attachment.

Just installed Ubuntu 11.04 (in VMWare) and did some checks using info on this forum. When trying to mount the disc, this is the error message. Then I used fdisk on the volume (/dev/sr0) and tried fsck. I downloaded UDFTools but cannot find any repair option like udffsck as described in this thread by the last author.
I am running out of inspiration... there are clearly data on the disc, which can be seen by just looking at its surface, but also the info on Mac. However, there might be some bad sector size in the partition table which renders it unreadable. How to recover these data?
I just installed Slackware 13.1 x86 on a new laptop (you probably remember me from my audio post). I am having one other issue. My root file system is formatted as EXT4. When my computer boots, it tries to mount it as EXT3 then EXT2, fails both types and then tries EXT4. Here are the messages.

Sometimes when I plug in a USB flash drive, it is mounted to /dev/usb0 instead of /dev/drivename. This poses a problem for me because I have applications that depend on files I keep on flash drives, and having to frequently change the file paths is difficult. I haven't been able to find anything on this topic with a cursory search on Google or through the Debian reference. Heck, I don't even know what /dev/usb0 is (though I would like to learn, in the interest of being less of a noob). This is happening on a Squeeze system running Gnome, so I believe nautilus is what's responsible for auto-mounting my flash drives.
Beyond that, I don't know what other information I should provide; if you need to know something else, ask me (and perhaps tell me how to access that information). Someone on IRC suggested that I didn't have my drives set to mount in /dev/, but I have no idea how I would go about fixing that. If there's a configuration file that deals with this sort of thing, chances are I haven't touched it since installing this system. Debian installer sees usb drive as cd drive, so it adds it in fstab, but with wrong file system options (udf,iso9660) which is not the one your flash drive uses.

A friend of mine upgraded his pc to ubuntu 10.04. Sadly enough we ran into issues with his graphics card, which apparently doesnt work well with lucid. We decided to downgrade to 9.10. I did this by installing over the old partition and chose to import the settings from the old account.The problems started when the pc booted for the first time:The list of kernels in grub2 was the one from 10.04.Somehow grub2 from the old installation seems to be still around and messes everything up. Any ideas how I could fix this?
